The tsunami warning is in effect for coastal areas of Alaska from Unimak Pass to Amchitka Pass. The areas are very remote and not heavily populated, according to Jessica Sigala, geophysicist with the USGS in Golden, Colo.

  1. There must be a major fault-line going down the east coast into Canada and Alaska. The tectonic plates are shifting so rapidly–where is the next earthquake going to appear? I can remember speculating years ago where on earth I could live to escape natural disasters. Answer: nowhere.

  2. Oh my gosh! Thank you for this post. I hope everything goes well. It reminds me of the earthquake we had last week – that one off-coast as well. It wasn`t nearly as strong as this one, though, and now I am going to worry for a while **goes off into her corner to worry** …

  3. UH, Oh. Bad Charlene. YF I’m sorry–I missed your earthquake. I glad it was off-shore. I guess they don’t report the off-shore ones as much. I only knew about this one because it was on the local news. I had to dig for it. Was there any damage inland?
