TRANS] 130122 ‘As Expected From TVXQ’ – The First Overseas Artistes To Have 12 Oricon Chart Topping Singles

TVXQ have become the first overseas artistes to have 12 singles top the Oricon charts in Japan.

On the 22nd, TVXQ’s agency stated, “TVXQ’s new single ‘Catch Me-If you wanna-’, which was released on the 16th, topped the daily Oricon singles charts as soon as it was released. It topped the weekly charts as well, making it their 12th single to top the Oricon weekly singles charts.”

TVXQ’s success has broken their own record for the most singles topping the Oricon weekly charts as overseas artistes. This is their 28th single to enter the TOP 10 of the weekly single charts since their 7th single ‘SKY’ in August, 2006, breaking the record for the most #1 singles and the most singles in the TOP 10 of the weekly singles charts released by overseas artistes. Their latest single contains the Japanese version of ‘Catch Me’, the title song of TVXQ’s 6th Korean album last September. ‘Catch Me’ topped various music charts in Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Japan.

Oricon’s official homepage posted an article with the title, “TVXQ score their 12th chart-topping single! Breaking the record for ‘the most #1 singles’ for overseas singers”.

Meanwhile, TVXQ will be releasing their new Japanese album ‘TIME’ on the 6th of March and will begin their Dome Tour (Tokyo Dome, Oksaka Kyocera Dome, Fukuoka Yahoo!Japan Dome, Sapporo Dome, Nagoya Dome) on the 27th of April with their Saitama Super Arena performance.

[TRANS] 120717 Tohoshinki, Sets A New Record For The Most Singles Sold For A Foreign Group…Surpassing The Carpenters

On 17 July, Oricon announced that popular Korean group, Tohoshinki, had set a new record among foreign groups. They have become the overseas group to have the highest total number of singles sold in the history of the Japanese music industry.

Their new single “Android” (Avex Trax), which was released on 11 July, has sold more than 152,000 copies within the first week.

The total sales of all of Tohoshinki’s ranking singles amounts to 3,104,000 copies, breaking the 10 year 10 month old record of the highest number of total singles sold for a foreign group. The record was previously held by the American sibling duo, The Carpenters, with 3,002,000 copies sold in total.

“Android” ranked 1st place in the 23 July Oricon weekly charts (tabulated from 9 to 15 July) immediately following its release. It is their second consecutive single to be ranked 1st, following “Still” (released March 2012), bringing their total number of singles ranked 1st to 11. They now have 27 releases which were tanked Top 10, beginning with “Sky”, which was released in August 2006, breaking their own record. They also broke their own record for the overseas artist with the most number of singles ranked 1st. (Ou-Yang Fei Fei ranks second for the overseas artist with the most number of singles ranked number 1 (2 singles). BoA ranks second for the overseas artist with the most number of singles which ranked within the Top 10 (25 singles).)

“Android” is Tohoshinki’s first dance track in about a year, since “Superstar” (released July 2011).

Tohoshinki’s nation-wide tour began on 18 Jan at the Yokohama Arena. They personally announced the details of their long-awaited new single to the fans at the concert venue.

The new song, 「STILL」 is a mid-tempo song with a poignant melody, and matches this season (winter) which is full of first meetings and separations. It will be released on 14 March. As the date of release is White Day, (the single) can be said to be Tohoshinki’s best (White Day) present to the fans.

Also, the song 「One More Thing」, which is also included in this single, has been chosen as the theme song for 『L et M』, the BeeTV drama through which female actress Erika Sawajiri will be making a return with after a 4 year absence.
