NEWS C_JES OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING JEJU (Full Translation, C-JeS Will Take Legal Action)

[News] C-JeS’s official announcement regarding Jeju (Full Trans, C-JeS will take legal action)

Hello

This is C-JeS Entertainment.

We are announcing our stance on KBS’s one-sided cancellation notification of JYJ’s appearance in KBS Jeju N7W Special Promotional Program.

Mid-April, through a phone call with the Jeju provincial government, we received their wish to appoint JYJ as an honorary ambassador to promoting Jeju’s selection in New 7 Wonders. The date in which we officially received the roles of an honorary ambassador and their reason for selecting JYJ through e-mail was April 26th.

However, it is customary for honorary ambassadors to begin their promotional activities after being appointed through an appointment ceremony and official press statements are released. Because the time in which we received the offer was during JYJ’s World Tour, we first politely declined their initial offer because we would be unable to hold an appointment ceremony.

However, the local government of Jeju-do stated that they were preparing a special broadcast program in July and that because they are preparing an appointment ceremony to be held then, they proposed that JYJ begin their promotional activities [before the ceremony] since they urgently needed publicity. JYJ, as Korea’s artist, accepted the position of honorary ambassador with responsibility in letting the world know of the domestic brand and Jeju’s 7 Wonders.

On May 4th, the Jeju local government notified the appointment of new honorary ambassadors through the press and [JYJ] officially began their promotional activities. JYJ, who was at the time holding their world tour, promoted Jeju Island and actively cooperated by filming videos encouraging on-line and phone voting as honorary ambassadors. Furthermore, last May, Jeju local government sent us a thank you mail stating that Jeju N7W were being publicized nationwide thanks to JYJ. In addition, the special broadcast program was decided to be held on July 20th, and JYJ was supposed to perform two songs and be officially appointed as honorary ambassadors.

However, on July 16th, 4 days before the concert, we received sudden one-sided notification that our appearance on television has been canceled. The reason was, “if JYJ appears, the program itself may not air,” a final notification without specific explanation. Today, although KBS claimed to have apologized to JYJ, we have only received one-sided cancellation and never an apology with official explanation.

We believe the broadcasting networks have the right to decide on the people that appear for the sake of their program. However, as this program was a special program wishing for Jeju’s appointment as the New 7 Wonders, and since JYJ has been selected as the official honorary ambassadors and have been holding promotional activities for three months, we insist on an official position from Jeju government and KBS regarding this one-sided cancellation notice.

Furthermore, C-JeS Entertainment will report the organizer, who has one-sidedly (without previous consultation with the artist) sent us a cancellation notice 4 days before the performance to the Fair Trade Commission, and will take legal action against this incident where the party promised JYJ a special broadcast program on their appointment ceremony, but deceived the artist by one-sidedly cancelling their appointment ceremony after using them for promotional activities.

Finally, JYJ’s current lawsuit is a civil suit regarding unfair contract with their previous management company, and is in reality, a weak artist’s fight against the unjust nature of exclusive contract, and thus is not a lawsuit which causes social problems or has moral issues. Furthermore, the courts have already decided that while this lawsuit is undergoing, JYJ has the right to resume their activities as free artists.

Most importantly, we apologize to JYJ fans who have received great shock through this unacceptable situation, and regardless of this situation, JYJ will continue to support promoting Jeju’s N7W as Korean citizens.

Thank You.

An Automatic Pardon for Lee Soo Man, the Originator of the European Korean Wave ‘Slave Contract’ [Fiasco]?
2011-06-21

[金土日의 리트윗] And if they buy it just because we export it?…the things that get buried under the hype about European expansion
The Korean Wave is tumultuous. Korean pop culture, which started rapidly spreading abroad in the late 1990s through TV dramas, to this day doesn’t show signs of slowing down. And now, through the Internet, Korean idol singers are even widening their stage all the way to Western Europe. This story was already reported by numerous media outlets, but the fine details were omitted. In any case, in summary, it was reported that even average European consumers were starting to respond to the musical products of the pop music business pioneered and executively directed by Lee Soo Man.

European Hallyu, a different and disorienting reality

The Korean Wave in Europe, for all the spotlight put on it in the 9 o’ clock news, is seen as a special case. ‘Ah, we [Koreans] have really become this admirable’, and this new impression seemed to not only be limited to SM Town but was spreading throughout Korea and even to far corners of the world. The most fitting phrase to describe this situation would be ‘a different and disorienting reality (격세지감(隔世之感)’.

In a way, the response came late. In the sports world, there have always been world-class stars. Kim Yuna, Park Taehwan, obviously Park Jisung, Park Chanho, Nam Hyunhee, Park Seri and others have shone on the world stage one after the other in a way similar to stars. And although the context is somewhat different this can also be said of our film directors like Park Chanwook, Bong Junho, Lee Changdong and Kim Kiduk who are acknowledged as world-class in their profession, renowned and have been central in raising awareness of Korean film, and consequently the pride of all involved in the film industry rose with them. And hey! Even the UN Secretary General is a Korean.

Popular Music that has fallen behind, the stigma of a copycat

Compared [to these other industries] the fuss that is the Korean Wave, in spite of the economic benefits it has brought our country, Korea’s popular music has not been able to give the sincere impression that its value has reached world-class levels up ‘til now. This is because its sphere of influence had not been able to extend beyond Asia, which always felt like an inadequate border. Perhaps this evaluation was coloured by prejudice centred on money, but if one considers the fact that there are countries that are much poorer both economically and culturally than Korea but whose music is known throughout the world it could be said with certainty that our country’s music in comparison to other areas had fallen behind in comparison.

On top of that, for a long time Korean pop music was branded with the stigma of being a ‘copycat’. This reputation came from the fact that almost all our musical genres from trot to rock and hip hop were all musical styles copied from elsewhere, and our history is full of such examples. In any case, wasn’t this a time when everyone was wearing jeans and suits? Instead of re-inventing foreign music in our way to fit with our pop music context we were quickly eager to copy continuously left and right, which consequently made it difficult to avoid plagiarism scandals and shake off the stigma associated with that. A lot of people held idols, dancers, lipsyncers responsible for the proliferation of this kind of knock-off music since they were the representatives and ambassadors for it. In particular, in the heyday of the illegal MP3 downloading controversy, a lot of netizens accused idol music of being, simply put, “rubbish” and, going further, “only the title track is worth paying for and the rest is rubbish”.

Enthusiasm on the mainland, an excessively strange spectacle

In these circumstances, where the very Western societies that had solidified the notion that Kpop was nothing more than a product of plagiarism and knockoffs was all of a sudden enthusiastically forming crowds to listen to Korean pop music…this image was indeed powerful and effective. This was on the scale of a dramatic human documentary story of an elite restaurant owner who had started out as a poor delivery boy. On top of that, the central figure that had brought this about was not a top-quality rocker or true musician but the knockoff-stigma-ridden idol, dancer, lipsyncer. There couldn’t have been a bigger irony.

In addition to the 9 o’ clock news, the majority of the media were singing with one voice in praise and admiration for the Korean Wave in Europe. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t voices both without and outside of Korea raised in criticism, but there voices were made feeble and difficult to hear. In the midst of these developments and in conformity with them, people began to suddenly re-evaluate the idols, dancers, lipsyncers at the centre of the Korean Wave in Europe and change their position with regards to Lee Soo Man, praising him. It appears there are even calls from sincere people to re-evaluate [Lee] as an innovative entrepreneur.

Lee Soo Man in the limelight, a futile generation

However, not everyone deserves a “re-evaluation”. It would be applied to people who, due to the limits of their time, had to make difficult decisions in order to reverse the polluted reputation of their line of work, but after a long time passes it becomes clear that their actions brought about a positive future in the end. In the case of Lee Soo Man, it’s obvious that he was able to reverse the polluted name of Korea’s music industry, but there’s still a long way to go before one can say that what he did was to overcome some dark aspect or that he assumed the role of the bad guy in order to bring about a brighter future. He only assumed the role of the bad guy for his own monetary ambitions and reputation, and the result of that is precisely the 21st century Korean pop music industry structure proliferated through TV and variety programmes and centred around idols, dancers, lipsyncers.

Lee Soo Man is the representative figure of this industry that has solidified the presence of the “slave contract” by taking advantage of adolescents chasing their dreams. Dong Bang Shin Ki, H.O.T and other star-quality groups that he shared joys and sorrows with, he has put through legal conflicts and dirty and painful separation sagas. Even where the law has taken care of the separation, to him there is no such thing as coolly letting go. Mobilising every means that he could mobilize, he has chased them down to annihilate them with methods so low that they are like those of alleyway thugs.

People all over the world are sure to remember his deeds from the past. Such deeds, he perpetrated not once or twice and given their scale in severity they have been special features in the media; people are bound to remember. And so, what is with this sudden forgiving public mood toward him just because he claims to be an important exporting mainstay? This too is an incredible case of “different and disorienting reality.

The popularity of idol groups overseas is as much due to devoted fans posting, translating, and promoting the artists as it is Lee Soo Man. He may have started these groups, but he would not be able to send them to Europe if their fans had not spent such a significant amount of time making sure their beloved idols were better known. Lee Soo Man is only a part of the equation, he should not be getting all the credit. He may have given the artists a chance but they still sweat and bled for it, and the fans stood behind them. I hope Korea remembers that individuals are just as important, if not more so, as recognition.

exactly what I was thinking !!!
it ‘s mainly because of a group in facebook which gathered almost 8000 people that smtown was held in paris, not because of Lee Soo Man at all !!!
The fans were in Europe before he even cared about the european hallyu !

Well I think the most important thing we have to be awared of is that Lee Soo Man is a man who has achieved recognition due to the artists he has trained and promoted having them under slave contracts, profiting on their work in an scandalously barefaced way.

Translation 110718 Has JYJ Become The Symbol Of Injustice?

[Trans] 110718 Has JYJ Become The Symbol Of Injustice?‏

Before the commence of JYJ’s topic, there are a few preconditional claims that have to be announced. This is because although the topic that I want to discuss starts with JYJ but the gist of the whole topic is not just about JYJ.
(JaeTime’s T/N: It meant that the discussion and thoughts from the commotion with regards to Korean entertainment agencies and unfair law judgment through the regrouping of JYJ and the lawsuit dispute.)

Preconditional Claim 1: JYJ are idols

JYJ is a new group formed comprising of TVXQ’s Xiah Junsu, Micky Yoochun and Hero Jaejoong, who left the group. TVXQ has attained the highest spot in the idol industry. This is a status achieved by all members of TVXQ and as an idol, they have their significance and their appearance would meant a significant meaning. Of course at the same time where they have their group of loyal fans, anti-fans would be present as well. Therefore upon any appearance of JYJ-relevant topics, the personal judgement of the issue, fans’ and bystanders’ views have to be clearly differentiated. I do not want to simply discuss about JYJ but to direct at the things happening right now and to talk about my views. Therefore before the beginning of discussion of this issue, We have to understand the slight bias that is present in the term ‘idol’.

Preconditional Claim 2: JYJ are wealthy

JYJ have accumulated lots of wealth. This can be known from the assets that were pronounced in news articles. But the main point of the problem is the unfair contract lawsuit between them and SM. Many people think that given the enormous wealth that JYJ had gotten yet the decision to sue the company was nothing different from being a ungrateful betrayer, with the lack of appreciation towards the company’s initial training for them and instead sarcastically said that themselves are slaves. Whether the truth to this is such, I am not in the position to say anything. But this issue is simple, whether their contract is justifiable or not, the court has its judgment. How much has the trio earned as members of TVXQ, there is no way to certify it now. Stealing 50 thousand away from 100 thousand is the same nature as stealing 50 thousand from 1 million. Because to someone who have earned 1 million, losing that 50 thousand, he would still feel unease.

Thus with these two preconditional claims, no matter they are wealthy people or betrayers, there are no basis. “How will the law be judging it?” This is the most important. Therefore before any conclusion is out, there should not be any clear judgment passed on them. Be it from ethical or law point of view, there are a lot of injustice towards the current JYJ. The weirdest that happened in JYJ’s activities was the unability to appear in news articles, television dramas and not able to participate in variety programmes, in addition to the frequent “sudden cancellation without a reason” incidents. The trio of JYJ recorded QTV’s programme in 24 hours and in the end this programme was unable to be broadcasted by QTV itself. Park Yoochun, who was supposed to attend KBS’s Win Win was canceled, together with this time’s “sudden cancellation” of Jeju island promotional performance even though the receipt of the cue sheet.

Not only such, on normal circumstances when a new drama is due to be broadcasted, the cast of the drama would appear in many variety shows for promotional purposes. But in ‘Miss Ripley’ situation, there are no interview of production company’s press conference from the start, and no appearance of the cast appearing on variety shows such as ‘Come To Play’.

Appearing in drama and news but nowhere to be seen in the entertainment circle, this is obviously an incomprehensible issue. Of course there would be such a situation where fans would express that it is the doing of a certain agency preventing the broadcast, but as the “agency” did not reveal anything, there would not be thoughts of accusations or suspect of the certain agency.

On the contrary, I think the problem lies with the broadcasting company. Because the television company or the news agency would invite guests to make their programmes more interesting. As for drama, the cast’s participation in variety shows would definitely allow the drama to be sold overseas with a higher price.

But the situation of Jeju’s promotional performance is completely different. With them being appointed as ambassadors, they have greatly influenced the promotional effects but was yet omitted in performance. The sudden cancellation was incomprehensible, especially when the schedule was already confirmed. There are lots of overseas fans who have planned to fly over to Korea for this public performance and this has worsen the problem. It feels so regretful especially when this happened in national-managed broadcasting company KBS.

Pre-appointed ambassadors scheduled performance was yet suddenly canceled without any special reason, this is obviously an injustice issue. Gaining the promotional effects and omitting them in the end, this shows the vile side of the establishment. This has to be brought up together with the harm inflicted to many fans. This is not what a national-managed television company should do.

The invisible backdoor pressure rumours were unbelievable. It is obvious that there is special reason and this reason have caused the cancellation. Before any judgment by the court is passed, there should not be any obstruction to their entertainment activities. Korea is a lawful country. In Korea, it is unimaginable to know of power who disregard law and there are no way to confirm if such power existed. If they say that there are not outside pressure, then wouldn’t it be impossible to stop the broadcasting based on one’s effort?

Therefore I hoped that KBS television company will give a proper explanation to this sudden cancellation of JYJ’s broadcasting. What is the exact reason for canceling JYJ’s broadcast. I hoped to receive a convincible reason.

Hopefully KBS can relay to the public the message that “Republic of Korea is a lawful society and there are no injustice.” If KBS’s reason is not convincible, that would be very regretful, very pitiful. This proves that under the law of our Republic of Korea, there are still certain power existing or that KBS has to depend on certain establishment’s power to produce programmes. If it is really so, then undoubtedly, JYJ has bear the injustice sacrifice and they have became the symbol of injustice.

Translation 110715 “Tears of Heaven” is The No. 3 Most Influential Musical in Attracting Foreigners — and What is No. 1?

[Trans] 110715 “Tears Of Heaven” Is The No. 3 Most Influential Musical In Attracting Foreigners – And What Is No. 1?

“Xiahzart” Kim Junsu has once again proven this year that he is the leading man in the hallyu musical scene.

Interpark revealed that for the first half of this year, among the top 5 musicals in Korea that attracted the most foreign visitors, Kim Junsu’s “Mozart!” and “Tears Of Heaven” took 1st and 3rd place respectively.

In this ranking, the project that attracted the most attention was “Tears Of Heaven.”

Composed by world famous musician Frank Wildhorn, and directed by Gabriel Barre, who won numerous awards for “Memphis,” “Sweeny Todd” and others, “Tears of Heaven” was a hot topic before it even started its run. However, due to its simple storyline and unconvincing setting, it was criticised as having “limited creativity” and being “an imitation “Miss Saigon.””

During then, there were critics that said “this musical is about a man who is looking for a pure love and humane “Korean Romance,” and although it has touching and emotional music as well as a creative stage, the weak plot is regrettable.”

A musical that seemed to lack a sense of completion and reality, “Tears Of Heaven” managed to take 3rd place in the foreign audience ranking. If not for “hallyu star” Kim Junsu, this would not have been possible.

Kim Junsu injected life into the simple storyline, and improved upon the sense of completion of the entire musical. His outstanding voice and mature acting skills enchanted the audiences. If not for him, this musical would have been normal, and not as spectacular as it had become.

The promotion for “Tears of Heaven” is especially meaningful because it is the only local (Korean) production that was recognised as having the highest foreign audience. In this reality where adapted musicals are the mainstream, it introduces the foreign audiences to an original Korean creative musical, which is a considerable gain.

To ensure the project’s quality and audience numbers, Kim Junsu is diligent when choosing projects to work on and participate in, and has earned praise for this. His choice to participate in a local creative production, and the energy he gradually injected into the musical is imaginable.

With Kim Junsu spearheading it, the growth of the musical hallyu wave looks positive. Musical production companies who are targeting the gradually growing crowd of foreign audiences have expressed that they will be expanding on the promotional efforts for the foreign crowd.

“There have always been audiences from countries like Japan, China and others that have come to watch hallyu stars, but that was before Kim Junsu showed his true power. And now he is the top sell-out guarantee in musicals.”

It is truly impressive that both of Kim Junsu’s projects were ranked as 1st and 3rd for the highest number of foreign audiences.

EDITORS NOTE on JEJU ISLAND 7 WONDERS CANCELLATION

Editors Note on Jeju Island 7 Wonders Cancellation

Look at this picture for NII. Boys next door.

Here we go again. Another cancellation. I’m truly not surprised anymore, just plain irritated. I guess JYJ isn’t morally grounded enough to appear before the TV audience and/or the world as Jeju’s honorary ambassadors? Honorary does have a meaning, right?

Give me a break!! Which agency is responsible this time? We can probably make some accurate guesses as to the political machinations that have attempted to make this last endeavor invalid, and to be honest about it, by this stage it is just ridiculousy juvenile.

Maybe some other country wants to make a bid for the 7 Wonders nomination, maybe SM or Avex simply wants to have one of their acts represent Jeju, or maybe, just maybe, it is just a case of Mr. Nasty disease from KBS once again.

I guess we’ll just wait to see what information will be provided by C-JeS, and who will take responsibility. Until then Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu–no one deserves a break more (accept maybe your brothers inside SM). You work so hard and you are dearly loved. <3 to the nth degree. 🙂 Momma Cha Addendum: There are other voices who feel as if KBS may, as has happened before, be the culprit here. There certainly is evidence from the past of KBS' tendency to schedule, receive promotional benefits, then cancel JYJ or JYJ individual member's activities. It has been affirmed through C-JeS that KBS has broken their agreement with JYJ to be the honorary ambassadors for N7W, which included the special broadcast program on the 20th of July. Has everyone become arrogant and starting to feel as if they have immunity in mistreating JYJ? This has to stop. Justice must be served. Addendum No. 2: It appears to me that KBS has something about them that others can manipulate and use for their own selfish purposes. Even if it is true that they originally asked SNSD et al to represent the N7W campaign, they also originally asked JYJ to do the same. Both had scheduling difficulties but JYJ managed to somehow answer their request and do the promotional work. JYJ got votes for Jeju from all over the world, and inspired people to want to come from all over the world for the event. This is mismanagement on the part of KBS, SM, and hopefully not C-JeS. Regardless of who did or didn't manipulate, drop the ball, etc; it just boils down to one thing, our guys were used and thrown away in the process. Junsu, we are sorry because we love you--and when you hurt, we hurt. Credit: Momma Cha @jyjfantalk.com

[Trans] 110713 Part 4: Kim Jaejoong’s Ideal Girlfriend, Hoped That She Is Skillful In Cuisine And Housework‏

JYJ Kim Jaejoong clarifies the misunderstanding that resulted from his previous talk on his ideal type.

Kim Jaejoong ever expressed in an interview during February that, “Someone who is like a housekeeper is my type that I liked.”. Such unique comment attracted everyone’s attention. He then continued with, ‘Please come here faster. I’m dying,’ such joking words made many female viewers’ hearts pounding.

Reporter was startled to hear the ideal-type-is-housekeeper speech by Kim Jaejoong and thus expressed self’s doubts about it, to which Kim Jaejoong explained, “I think I did not say it clearly. What I meant is that I like girls who are particular about housework and would have to know how to cook and clean up hygienically.” “I like to cook and clean up, of course I would like girls who will do all these with me.”

As a public figure being JYJ, there are privacy restrictions. Thus was not able to meet friends freely, and was not able to date at ease. To this, Kim Jaejoong joked, “Honestly I do feel lonely at times. If there are any good woman, please introduce her to me.” source: tvdaily+koreastardaily
