Kicking off with Micky Yoochun. But these days, people are more familiar with the name ‘Park Yoochun’. The title of ‘actor’ sounds less awkward on him than the title of ‘member of JYJ’.

He was a leading role from the start. Making his debut with ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ in 2010, he has appeared on ‘Miss Ripley’, ‘Rooftop Prince’ and ‘I Miss You’. He has encountered a variety of genres, like comedy, history and thrillers. He never suffered from any ‘acting controversies’, something that has followed every idol who has transformed into an actor. It would not be wrong to say that Park Yoochun is the most successful idol-turned-actor in the industry.

His solid acting and the success of his previous productions has landed him a major role. He has been chosen as the leading role of SBS’ new Wednesday-Thursday miniseries ‘Three Days’, which is kicking off with a 10 billion Won investment. As the creation of screenwriter Kim Eun Hui, who has worked with successful actors like Park Shin Yang and So Ji Seob in ‘Sign’ and ‘Ghost’, the drama is a great choice for Park Yoochun.

‘Three Days’ is already set to become a success. Though there are still two months left till the drama begins airing, Kim Eun Hui has already written more than half of the entire script. The drama is set to be of a high quality as she won’t be scrambling to finish off her script. ‘You, Who Came From The Stars’, the preceding drama of ‘Three Days’, already has a viewership of 25%. If they current trend continues, ‘Three Days’ has a high possibility of beginning with a 30% viewership.

 

2014 is set to be a great year for Park Yoochun as an actor because he will also be making his big-screen debut through Director Bong Joon Ho’s movie ‘Sea Fog’. If Park Yoochun is able to succeed in his two-pronged approach, he will solidify an unparalleled position in both industries.

A representative of the entertainment industry stated, “Kim Soo Hyun and Song Joong Ki have both made their mark as top stars by appearing in both movies and dramas. Park Yoochun is still considered more of a ‘star’ than an ‘actor’, but if ‘Three Days’ and ‘Sea Fog’ succeed, he will establish himself as the most influential Hallyu star and actor of the industry.”

The weight on Park Yoochun’s shoulders is slightly lighter because of the experienced veterans at his side. In ‘Sea Fog’, he will be working alongside stars like Kim Yoon Seok, Moon Sung Geun and Kim Sang Ho. In ‘Three Days’, he will be working with Sohn Hyun Joo, Yoon Jae Moon, Jang Hyun Sung, Choi Won Young, Park Ha Sun and So Yi Hyun.

The representative also added, “In both movies and dramas, the ensemble is extremely important. This is a great opportunity for Park Yoochun as he will be working with the most well-known and talented actors of the industry.”

However, there are rising powers Park Yoochun must be wary of. ‘Three Days’ will be going head to head with KBS 2TV’s ‘Emotional Generation’, which will feature Kim Hyun Joong, and MBC’s ‘Cute Returning Single’, which will feature Joo Sang Wook and Lee Min Jung. Analyzing the cast, the power of the screenwriters and the statistics of the previous Wednesday-Thursday dramas, ‘Three Days’ has the upper hand. However, this does not mean they can be relaxed about it. The tables can turn at any moment, and Park Yoochun must be on high alert.

It is imperative that Park Yoochun takes care of his stamina and schedule in order to succeed this year. He must begin filming for ‘Three Days’ as soon as he finishes filming for ‘Sea Fog’. He must make sure his schedule is well-balanced in order for him to be in the best condition possible. Both productions have many outside filming sessions, which means that it is important for Park Yoochun to take care of his health.

Actor Park Yoochun has swept the major awards of the 3 major agencies in 3 years, completing the grand slam and showcasing his power.

Park Yoochun received 4 awards in 2012 SBS Acting Awards, receiving the Excellence Award, Best Couple Award, Netizen’s Most Popular Award, The Teen Idol Award with his first SBS drama ‘Rooftop Prince’.

Receiving the Best Rookie Award in his debut year in KBS with ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’, and in the following year in MBC with ‘Miss Ripley’, he also won the Excellence Award in 2012 MBC Acting Awards with ‘I Miss You’ as well, before completing the unprecedented rout with ‘Rooftop Prince’.

Park Yoochun, accepting the award, commented “I thank you very much for your support. I had a lot of fun while filming ‘Rooftop Prince’, and I am so happy to receive an award from it. I have so many people to thank. To my father in heaven, whom I have missed during the filming the most and will miss the most until the day I join him, I wish to dedicate this award. [News] 120419 Park Min Young is cast as the heroine of ‘Doctor Jin’

Actress Park Min Young was recently cast as the heroine of MBC’s series Doctor Jin (working title), which will start airing on May 26. Song Seung Hun was also cast in the series.

The series is based on Japanese cartoon with the same title. It is very unique medical drama about a doctor named Jin Hyuk (played by Song), who is from modern-day Korea but goes back to the Joseon Dynasty in the 1860s.

Park will play the double role of a talented physician named Yoo Mi Na in 2012 and a girl named Hong Young Lae, who is of noble birth in Joseon Dynasty.

 Yoo Min Na is bright and bubbly but also impulsive. She is a warm hearted person who can’t ignore people who need help. Hong Young Lae and Yoo Mi Na are resembled a lot but has 180 degrees different personality. Hong is calm and careful but has the mos powerful maternal love than anyone.

Director Han Hee, who produces the series, said, “Park appeared on historical series, including Sungkyunkwan Scandal, and modern series, including City Hunter and Glory Jae In. That’s why I thought Park is the perfect actress to be the heroine of the series. Since she is recognized as a veteran actress, I think she will do a good job performing in the series.”

The series, starring Song, Park, Kim Jae Joong, and Lee Beom Soo, will start airing on May 26 after the current series Feast of the Gods goes off air.

JYJ’s Park Yoo Chun always plays the roles of a rich guy in all of his TV dramas.

In SBS’s series Rooftop Prince, which started airing on March 21, Park plays the double role of a crown prince named Lee Gak and the son of a great industrial family named Yong Tae Yong.

He has also played the roles of a rich man in other two series and people are paying a lot of attention to him because he plays the same type of role but shows a different side in each series.

Park played the role of Lee Seon Joon, the only son of a high ranking officer in times of King Jeongjo in KBS’s series Sungkyunkwan Scandal. His father is a Cabinet member in present times.

 In addition, he played the role of an heir named Song Yoo Hyun, who will succeed his family business in MBC’s Miss Ripley in 2011. He even enjoyed a date with Lee Da Hae in his private helicopter.

In his current series, Rooftop Prince, Park has moved up in social class and has became a crown prince. He also plays the role of Yong Tae Yong, who will take over a Home Shopping Company. In the first episode of the series, Park drew a lot of attention by cruising on a luxurious yacht, which belongs to the company, with Lee Tae Sung.

Even though Park has been playing the roles of rich guys, he shows different charms in each series. Park is showing off his charismatic and comic charms in the current series.

People responded: “Park looks good playing the role of a rich guy.” “Park plays the roles of high ranking people in succession. Hyun Bin couldn’t have even done that.” “Where can I find this kind rich guy?”

The production crew for the series says, “Everyone wants to play the role of a rich guy but Park has been playing the role three times in a row and it even surprised us. Park will capture the public’s attention by showing off his great sense of humor in the series.”

The March 28 episode of the series received 11.2 percent of the audience rating (AGB Nielsen Media Research) and is finding his way to the top among other series which air every Wednesday and Thursday.

New actor Park Yoohwan debuted just 9 months ago with “Shiny Shining Shining”, is currently acting in drama “A Thousand Days’ Promise” as the younger brother of the female lead who is suffering from senile dementia. Park Yoohwan is the younger brother of JYJ member Park Yoochun and Park Yoochun previously acted in “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”. On the afternoon of 29th last month, the reporter interviewed Park Yoohwan at SBS drama centre in Gyeonggi-do and through a phone interview with Park Yoochun who was in Hawaii for a photo shoot.

The actor brothers with many similarities Park Yoochun and Park Yoohwan. Younger brother Yoohwan: “We have been busy recently and didn’t have the time to meet.”, and expressed his wish to act in the same project with his brother.

Yoohwan said, “Hyung is like a father to me”, and Yoochun said, “My brother is worth to be praised, I’m proud of him.” There is a reason for such a deep relationship between the brothers. They migrated to America in 1998 but the brothers suffered after facing financial difficulties and their parents’ divorce. Especially when Yoochun returned to Korea for his singer dream, the younger brother Yoohwan who has always been dependent on his hyung, starts to feel the uneasiness.

Yoohwan said, “I couldn’t understand why I had to go through all these issues. And bore grudges towards my hyung who left me. There was nothing I wanted to do and had no confidence to do anything. As I starts to have the thinking of ‘what’s the use of studies?’, I withdrew from school. I was a high schooler then.”

However there was a dramatic change to Yoohwan. One day, Yoohwan followed his hyung to acting classes in preparation for “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and end up falling for it. Yoohwan said, “I found myself through acting. For the first time in life, I had my own dream.” Yoochun said, “Acting transformed Yoohwan from someone leading a dull life with no desire into a very lively person. I used to get rejections from him when I ask him to join me for drinks but now he would initiate to ask me out for a drink.” Yoohwan’s portrayal in “A Thousand Days’ Promise” gained compliments where he was grabbing his older sister who was rejecting treatments while crying out loud and when he endured the sadness and teared while taking care of his sister. Yoohwan then revealed the source for this extraordinary emotional scene, “It was the painful memory when I was young. When hyung came back to America for a temporary visit, I looked at hyung who was sound asleep and upon thinking that we are going to be separated again, I felt so sad and tears just fell uncontrollably. Upon thinking of that situation, I can still feel the sadness somewhere deep within me.” He continued, “The love for noona in the drama is very similar to the love for hyung. During the emotion scenes, I imagined if hyung is the one suffering from senile dementia.”

When reading the scripts, Yoohwan would ask scriptwriter Kim Soo Hyun for advices on acting and take notes of it. In order to perfect his enunciation, he would read out loud for 30 minutes daily. Older brother adored and worried for such a younger brother. Yoochun said, “He would stay up through the night to research on the character. I would advice him frequently that currently it is still the beginning phase, must have confidence (with yourself) and don’t work over painstakingly. But he still overworked himself. Luckily he worked hard in training his body and took good care of his own health.”

Yoohwan recently has been reading actor Michael Caine’s “Acting in Film: An Actor’s Take on Movie Making”. He said, “A quote from the book that left me an impression is, ‘If you have any other plans besides performing, then give up performing right now.’ I don’t know anything else other than performing, thus I won’t give this up.” (T/N: In this case, ‘performing’ refers to acting; a form of performing arts.) Yoochun said, “When I started my activities (as a singer) then, I was bearing the responsibility for my family’s livelihood but I hoped that Yoohwan can break away from the duty of money earning and perform freely (as an enjoyment).”

Park Yoochun has made his mark as an actor through ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ and ‘Miss Ripley’.

Kim Jaejoong said, “What’s best is, ‘Let’s be good at one thing’, but I was able to take a shot at acting because a great opportunity came up and I’m thankful to have received a positive response,” and “I’m thinking of taking on acting again if the opportunity arises.“

Kim Junsu said, “Thanks to my participation in the OST of the drama, I was fortunately given a cameo appearance. Though I did think for a moment that I’d like to try acting as I watched the other two become actors, I saw them staying up all night for days on end to complete their filming, and that thought vanished.” He bragged and said that soccer suits him better. He said, “I played in fifteen soccer matches in a month,” and “I didn’t have any celebrity friends, but I became friends with Kim Hyun Joong and B2ST’s Lee Gi Kwang and Yoon Du Jun through soccer.”

Since finishing his drama, Park Yoochun has been hooked on fishing. He said, “I was in Busan for a month in August and I had fun swimming and fishing,” and “There’s nothing better to pass time than fishing.” Park Yoochun plans to continue his acting career. Offers for movie and drama appearance are currently flooding in and he plans to choose his next production and appear in front of his fans in the near future.

The drama “Secret Garden” in which Hyunbin starred in gained yet another award. “Secret Garden” won the Daesang and Best Scriptwriter award, for a total of two awards at this year’s Korea Drama Awards. However, the award for best male actor went to Lee Minho for his role in “City Hunter.” The award for best female actress went to Yum Jungah for her role in “Royal Family.”

The drama “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” got the award for Best Produced Drama. The best supporting actor award went to Joo Sangwook for”Giant” and Lee Yura for “Sparkling.” Kim Soohyun from “Dream High” won the Rookie award and the Popularity award, while Lee Minho got the Hallyu star award. Lim Soohyang from “Paradise Ranch” got the award for best female supporting actress.

Huh Gak’s “Don’t Forget Me” from the drama “Greatest Love” won the award for best OST. How many of these dramas did you watch this year?

Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu, Kim Jaejoong. The trio of JYJ, who split from TVXQ to form a new popular group, have all starred in domestic dramas.

After Park Yoochun wrapped up filming for ‘Miss Ripley’ (MBC) that began in May and ended in July, Kim Junsu made a short but strong appearance in the popular drama ‘Scent of a Woman’ (SBS). And now, Kim Jaejoong is playing the role of Department Head Cha Mu Won in ‘Protect the Boss’ (SBS) and stealing the hearts of drama viewers.

Though it’s normal to see idols taking on a side job as actors, JYJ’s situation is quite different. While other singers appear on music and variety programs while taking on roles in dramas, JYJ can only be seen in dramas.

The forerunner out of the trio who found a way to relieve his stress of being unable to appear on music programs through drama appearance is Park Yoochun, as many already know. Last August till November, he appeared in the fusion historical drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ (KBS) and made his mark as an actor who is sought after by drama producers.

Kim Junsu appeared in ‘Scent of a Woman’ as Asia’s top Hallyu singer ‘Junsu’, who Lee Yeon Jae (Kim Seon Ah) wanted to see before she died. ‘You are so Beautiful’, the OST that Kim Junsu performed live during the drama, drives into the viewers’ ears whenever an emotional scene takes place between the two leading roles (Kim Seon Ah, Lee Dong Wook).

Kim Jaejoong is currently being loved as the creator of the love triangle between him, No Eun Seol (Choi Kang Hee) and Cha Ji Hun (Ji Sung) in the drama ‘Protect the Boss’. Critics have stated that though his acting was a little awkward at the beginning, he is improving as the episodes progress.

CEO Baek Chang Joo of C-JeS Entertainment stated, “As Junsu has already made his mark in the musical industry, he doesn’t want to take on dramas just yet. But Jaejoong and Yoochun will continue to appear in dramas.“

The trio have had restrictions placed on their broadcasted appearances since creating JYJ after leaving TVXQ and SM Entertainment in July, 2009. It has been known that SM has been calling for such restrictions as they believe that JYJ entered a dual contract with C-JeS, the focal point of SM’s lawsuit against JYJ. Though the Courts dismissed SM’s exclusive contract suspension injunction against JYJ and C-JeS in February and laid down the verdict that SM must not interfere with JYJ’s independent activities, JYJ have bene unable to appear on the music programs of Korea’s three major broadcasting companies.

Board of directors member Park Jin Hyung of AStory, the production company of ‘Protect the Boss’ and ‘Scent of a Woman’, stated, “Kim Jaejoong was chosen as the first person to approach for the role of Cha Mu Won, and we deemed that Kim Junsu was the appropriate person to take on the role of a Hallyu star in the drama, as well as to sing the OST,” and “SM’s influence doesn’t reach the drama industry, unlike in the entertainment industry, so we were able to cast JYJ in their respective roles without any problems.” SBS PD Nam Tae Jin of ‘Scent of a Woman’ stated, “No interferences took place in the casting of JYJ.”
