[News] 110729 Pop Idols Bringing Korean Wave to Germany
The growing popularity of K-pop bands in Germany indicates that the Korean Wave may have finally made its way to Western Europe.
According to the VIVA Online Clip Charts, girl group 2NE1′s recently released song “I Am the Best” ranked top of the charts this week. This was followed by “Mona Lisa,” by boy band MBLAQ, and Beast’s “Breath.” Songs by 2PM, Super Junior-M and Big Bang also made their way into the top 100.
The VIVA chart is compiled by German music TV channel VIVA based on the number of downloads and music video hits the songs receive online. The station is equivalent in clout to MTV in the U.S., and is in fact now under the management of MTV following a recent acquisition and merger.
VIVA News reported on Wednesday that K-pop, a new force to be reckoned with in the mainstream music industry, has recently moved beyond Asia and into Europe. It said this is similar to what happened in the 1990s with Japanese music, when J-Pop became hugely popular around the world. One of the key to K-pop’s success, it said, is the attractive looks of its singers, many of whom have undergone cosmetic surgery.
“K-pop idol groups such as Beast, 2NE1, TVXQ, MBLAQ, Super Junior and Big Bang were modeled after boy bands and girl groups in the West,” it reported. “Korean management agencies, notably SM Entertainment, discover young talents and nurture them into becoming highly successful groups. Many Korean groups are immensely popular in Japan, so they sometimes sing in Japanese.”
Meanwhile, JYJ, another local boy band, has expressed its wish to hold a concert in Germany at either the end of October or in early November, the Korean Embassy in Berlin said.
“JYP Entertainment, which manages Wonder Girls and 2PM, is also considering holding concerts in Germany,” it added.

[News] TVXQ tops the Oricon daily chart with “Superstar”
Having only released their latest Japanese single three days ago – and their music video – TVXQ snagged the #1 spot on the Oricon charts!
On July 20th, TVXQ released their latest single “Super Star“. Already, the duo has sold an impressive 120,000 copies within two days and snatched #1 on Japan’s Oricon daily chart. Despite the fact that the group now consists of only two members, their influence still appears to be standing strong.
As well as performing well on the Oricon charts, their album is also faring well on Tower Record’s general sales chart (listed as #5), Amazon Japan’s sales (listed as #2), and Japan’s HMV general ranking (listed as #2).
Recently, the duo performed the song on KBS 2TV’s ‘Music Bank in TOKYO K-POP FESTIVAL” on July 22nd. During their performance, TVXQ displayed their powerful vocal skills as well as their strong charisma; they received much praise from fans who left comments like, “It’s the one and only TVXQ!” and “There’s no one who can top these world stars!”

[News] 110728 Kim Hyun Joong and TVXQ depart for Japan
On the morning of July 28th, Kim Hyun Joong and TVXQ were spotted at Gimpo Airport as they were making their way to their respective flights for Japan.
Kim Hyun Joong is heading to Japan for his ‘Break Down‘ showcase that’s being held at the Tokyo International Forum on the 29th. At the event, the star will meet with approximately 1,500 people, including reporters and fans, while promoting his new mini-album. The idol stated, “It seems just like yesterday that I began preparing for my album, but I’ve already concluded my activities in Korea. It doesn’t seem real. When I see my fans again, I will try to show a more mature and advanced side of myself“.
Furthermore, for the month of August, Kim Hyun Joong will be traveling to other countries like Taiwan, Thailand, and the Philippines to promote his album.
Meanwhile, TVXQ is heading to Japan for their “Superstar” promotions. Fans immediately noticed that Changmin’s right hand was still in a cast, indicating that he’s still recovering from an injury he sustained earlier this month during dance rehearsals.

Kim Jaejoong, together with Kim Junsu and Park Yoochun, filed a lawsuit against their company SM Entertainment in July 2009 for invalidity towards their exclusive contract and from then on, TVXQ’s activities were halted. The trio formed JYJ and is currently active as one. U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin continued their activities as TVXQ and released a new album.

[Trans] 110725 The Innocent Question of “Why Doesn’t You Have A Girlfriend?” Left Yunho Breaking Out In Cold Sweat
TVXQ U-Know Yunho broke out in cold sweat with the innocent questionings from the kids Cha Joon Hwan and Jin Ji Hee, arousing laughters.
On the Kiss & Cry that was broadcasted on the 24th, Yunho abide by his promise of buying Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) for Claudia. At the request of the youngest in the team Cha Joon Hwan and Jin Ji Hee, the four of them went to a Chinese cuisine restaurant.
Facing Cha Joon Hwan’s constant questioning of “Why doesn’t Yunho hyung have a girlfriend? It is not okay for an artiste to not have one~” left Yunho breaking out in sweat and replied, “Hyung would loved to have one too.”, showing his heartfelt feelings.
(T/N: Cha Joon Hwan is the boy who helped to tie YH’s shoes.)
Yunho continued to genuinely say that, “As I have to be performing overseas very often, wouldn’t I be in tense mode due to that person who is waiting for me (to return)? Because if we were to break up, we will be heartbroken and hurt isn’t it?”
To this, Cha Joon Hwan replied simply, “Then why don’t the two of you just go (overseas) together?” It made Yunho laughed out loud, “So it can be done just like that… I shall do what Joon Hwan had suggested,” replying to Cha Joon Hwan’s innocent suggestion.
After that, when Cha Joon Hwan again raised a question of “Do you think Choikang Changmin hyung is handsome or U-Know Yunho hyung?”, Yunho immediately showed his desire to win, saying, “The most important point to this question is that in this life that you have lived, who is the one that is buying Tangsuyuk for you all.” In the end Yunho became the ‘Pretty Boy’ with everyone’s agreement, and he revealed his satisfied smile.
Yunho who broke out in sweats by the questionings from Cha Joon Hwan and Ji Jin Hee, said, “When I’m together with Ji Hee and Joon Hwan, it’s as though I can gained a lot of advantageous strength. We are like friends when we are together.”
In the broadcast that day, Yunho and Claudia performed on a Marionette-themed stage, attracting audiences’ attention.
