Translation: 110422 “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” Song Joong Ki Talks About His Friendship With Yoochun

Yoochun, from popular Kpop group Tohoshinki and JYJ attracted a lot of attention with his first drama acting challenge, “Sungkyunkwan Scandal.” The full set of DVDs were released for sale on 22 April, and Song Joong Ki, who played the role of playboy “Gu Yongha” in the popular “Jjalgeum Quartet” talks about the difficulties during production as well as episodes with Yoochun.

(Song Joong Ki) talked about Yoochun, who challenged acting for the first time in the same project, saying “He (asked for and) got a lot of advice.” “He’s an impressive guy (laughs), but to say that he got “acting advice” is a bit too much. Yoochun may be a rookie actor, but he has a solid position in the music industry as a singer, so I didn’t want to hurt his pride. But when he was told various things, he would be really thankful and accept it, which was unexpected. From then on, we would ask each other questions, and we could do our work comfortably and well.

Translation: 110418 ‘Opera Star’ Moon Hui Ok Says, “I Gained Strength From TVXQ’s Support”

‘Trot singer’ Moon Hui Ok was able to create a perfect performance with the help of TVXQ’s support.

Moon Hui Ok sang ‘The Joyful sound of the Triangle’ on tvN’s ‘Opera Star’ that began airing at 11pm on the 16th.

For her performance, she showed a completely new image of herself as she wore a red dress and transformed into an allluring gypsy. Her passionate choreography also stole the attention of the audience.

After completing her performance, she stated, “I met TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin recently and they told me that they’ve been avidly watching ‘Opera Star’,” and “I felt better when they told me that they’d vote for me.”

The judges critiqued that though Moon Hui Ok was slightly lacking in terms of pronounciation and expression, her overall performance was excellent.

On this episode, Tei was chosen as the most popular star for the second week in a row while Sunday was eliminated.

Trans Interview #1 Kim Jaejoong Says “TVXQ The…

[Trans] Interview #1: Kim Jaejoong Says, “TVXQ, The Problem Wasn’t Between The Members”

For TVXQ, the nation’s top idol group, July of 2009 is an unforgettable moment in time. The group split up when three members, Xiah Junsu, Micky Yoochun and YoungWoong Jaejoong, filed an exclusive contract suspension injunction against SM Entertainment on the grounds that, ‘A 13-year contract is unjust’. Fans who had fallen for these five ‘pin-up boys’ were devastated; everything had looked fine on the outside when it fact, the inside had rotted and collapsed. These three members formed a new group JYJ and chose a path that was independent from their former agency. But the environment that surrounds them in the entertainment industry is not a friendly one. There are times when they must sit in dismay under the scrutiny of cold gazes.

Two years after the group split, we invited Jaejoong to an interview with us over a few glasses of beer to represent his fellow JYJ members as they have successfully hit off their World Tour in Thailand. He showcased all his talents this performance by taking on the role of the concert’s director. You could still see the feeling of relief etched on his face from completing the concert successfully; his expression was bright. What stuck out the most was his white and smooth skin.

▶JYJ’s Concert in Thailand, Jaejoong’s Debut as a Director

-I heard that the concerts in Thailand were a hit.

“It was all thanks to our fans. Though there are parts that I wish I could go back and fix, I was so happy that we created a performance for the sole purpose of singing our songs. I felt a surge of emotions back then.”

-I saw that people cheered the loudest for you during the concert…

“No way. (laughter) But if that’s the case, then I think it was because of the red, see-through outfit that I wore. (laughter)”

-Then what about the outfits of the other members?

“Park Yoochun has the manliest image in JYJ so he wore blue, and I matched Kim Junsu with green because of his humorous image. I wanted to represent my slightly epicene image.”

-You must have had priority because you were the director.

“(laughter) That’s right. Because it’s all up to the director. I want to keep directing in the future.”

-We’re having an interview today over a few glasses of beer, but what’s your usual drinking capacity?

“I’m a moderate drinker. But when I have a lot to drink, my face gets really red. There are times when I have a glass of sake or beer when I’m at home alone and can’t seem to fall asleep.”

▶His mobile phone start-up screen is still a picture of TVXQ

-Let’s start off with a difficult question. What is TVXQ to you?

“There are still a few rough patches to fix. But I can assure you that the problem wasn’t amongst the members. I believe there were lies and misunderstandings that surrounded us. Personally, I think that we could still straighten out all the misunderstandings. I could send the other members a text right now if you wanted me to. Actually, the start-up screen on my phone is still a picture of TVXQ.”

-You must have felt very sad during the concert.

“The thought ‘It would have been better if the two other members were with us. I’m sure we’d be making greater music then.’ was running through my head.”

-Any other regrets?

“It’s been seven since TVXQ debuted in 2004 with the single ‘Hug’. We even have at least 100 songs that we performed in Japan. But we can’t sing those songs anymore. It’s so regrettable.”

During our conversation, he showed me the picture on his start-up screen. He even confessed that he listens to TVXQ albums often, though his friends tell him not to. The funny thing is that he has six mobile phones in total. He said, “It’s because I get so many prank calls,” and “I thought that it would be better to use five or six phones at a time instead of changing my number on a regular basis.“

▶One hot photo: the luxurious interior of your house? “I saw and ordered it online.”

-There are a lot of your photos that are becoming a hot topic these days, but what’s this about a photo of you as a high schooler with your date?

“Ah, I saw that too. I think it was in the Myeongdong area in Seoul and I’m sure it was when I was in high school because it was before my debut. I was in fact on a date with my girlfriend. But it was such a long time ago and I haven’t been in touch with her for a while.”

-What about the photo you took with Kang Yebin?

“Oh, that was at my birthday party on January 26th. I met with some friends at a bar near Apgujeong, Seoul and that’s when I saw her for the first time. I didn’t know her very well but I got to meet her because she had come with a friend of hers who was a screenwriter. She was actually sitting way back and I was sitting up front, but the camera angle made it seem like we were leaning on each other. (laughter)”

-Who else was there at your party?

“Most of them were my non-celebrity friends. A few celebrities who came were Hong Seok Chun and Narsha.”

-The luxurious interior of your new house also became a hot topic.

“I created the theme myself. But it’s not luxurious at all. 80% of the things in the house are cheap products that you can order online. I really like decorating rooms. When I was living with Kim Hyun Joong, I was in charge of the interior design of the house.”
▶He used to live with Kim Hyun Joong but now he lives alone

-I heard that you used to live with Kim Hyun Joong from ‘Boys Over Flowers’.

“I lived with him for about a year till the second half of last year. Early this year, Hyun Joong moved to Cheongdam-dong and I moved to Jamshil.“

-How did you meet Hyun Joong?

“I got to know him by chance before our debut. We’ve been friends ever since.”

-It must be that handsome guys have some sort of connection.

“I don’t think that’s it… (laughter). When I first saw Hyun Joong, I thought he looked kind of pitiful. He was a lanky kid who looked like he didn’t have any friends. (laughter) I think that’s why I felt more affectionate towards him.”

-Your friendship with Park Yong Ha was quite special.

“My heart still feels a pang of pain when I think about him. It happened while I was travelling to the US after our Tokyo Dome performance in Japan. As soon as I arrived at the airport in the US, I got a call from Yong Ha. He asked me where I was; I told him I was in the US and he said, ‘Ah, okay, good luck with your concert and we should meet up for a glass of soju soon’. Who would have thought that those would be his last words to me… And then two days later, I heard that he had ended his life.“

110415 Yunho Talks Of the Split “I’ve Protected TVXQ Till Now and I Will Keep Protecting TVXQ

[Translation] 110415 Yunho Talks Of The Split– “I’ve Protected TVXQ Till Now And I Will Keep Protecting TVXQ”

HoMin talked about the emotions they felt when the split between the group happened.

TVXQ appeared as the first guest stars on tvN’s ‘Taxi’ on April 14th and took time out our their schedule to talk about work, love and family.

Regarding the split, U-Know Yunho said, “It would be lie to say that it didn’t hurt to have to stand on stage as a duo,” and “We know so well that our three friends are talented and kind people, but it hurt because we were met by worried gazes when we said that we’d be making a comeback as a duo and there were even a lot of people who criticized our actions and said, ‘Do you really think you could succeed as a duo?’”

He continued to say, “That was what was most upsetting because I’ve always believed that protecting TVXQ is the priority,” and “I’ve protected TVXQ till now and I will keep protecting TVXQ.”

Choikang Changmin said, “It’s true that I felt a little hurt because the split came regardless of the fact that there was no change in our opinions and the two of us weren’t standing on a split path,” and “It’s true that I felt sad and worried (about our new album) because we have always been standing in the same place, doing the same things and preparing, just like we’ve always been doing.”

He also said, “But because you can’t turn back time and undo the things that have happened, I like to think more about accepting what has happened and working hard to show everyone how much we’ve evolved.”

News: 110412 The Daily Focus Exclusive Interview with Junsu: On Life, On His Current and Future Goals

[News] 110412 Exclusive Interview with Junsu: On Life, On His Current and Future Goals

Through pain, I learned life.

Parting with TVXQ…

Challenge to be Musical Actor…

Exclusive Interview with JYJ Kim Junsu

“I’ve come to learn that all problems stem from not making myself grow but rather being satisfied, saying “this much, should be okay.”

Group JYJ’s Kim Junsu, who is broadening his domain from idol star into a musical actor, opened up his heart in the interview with Focus Shinmum on the 11th, saying “I, too, am a human being before I am a singer.” He has conquered the wounds he endured through the separation process with TVXQ last year by immersing himself into the Musical “Mozart.” Following that, through the musical “Tears of Heaven,” he flowered once more as a musical actor “Kim Junsu.” He said: “I became a much stronger, mature man.” Many people know him as born on January 1 of 1987, but in truth he is born on the year of the Tiger, on December 15th of 1986, as a twin (his older brother is Zuno). He debuted as TVXQ when he was a 2nd year student in high school and now, he’s become a young man of 25.

“While singing the “I needed to learn” in the first scene of the 2nd act of Tears of Heaven, I felt moved at the thought that ‘such is life.’ A situation in which one needs to kill another person in order for myself to live, in order to live and to meet a person that I love, is not something that only happens in war.”

To Kim Junsu, musical is a teacher that teaches life. “Sadder than the fact that it is a society of competition in which one must fight with the other to win is the (fact that we have) circumstances in which one must learn how to push others down in order to survive with those methods.

Junsu thought of the “good sportsmanship” (T/N: literally, “competition in good faith”) as a method to cure the social conditions like today that goads one to become angry and lose his temper.

“I wish that in our society will operate with the rule in which even if one loses, if the other person has such great qualities that I can accept it, that one humbly accepts the results.”

Kim Junsu’s principle (T/N: This is the same word that is used by Jaejoong when he describes his tattoo on his chest) is to try his best. (Junsu says that) it is because if he does so, even if it does not work out, he will be able to begin something new. When (the newspaper) asked whether he has had anything that he tried but would not work out, he said it was studying.

“In particular, math—as we finished the quadratic formula and moved on to trigonometry, I said: ‘Studying is something that even if one tries it just won’t work.’ (laugh)”

Kim Junsu is currently challenging himself at Popera. Time to time he is taking voice lessons (T/N: the article uses the word 성악 which is traditionally used to denote the kind of singing often done by opera actors). The transformation into a Popera singer from an idol dance singer is, to Junsu, as fervent as the task (T/N: literally, “homework”) that has been thrown on his twenties.

“The sensitivities that a song that is flavored by the (opera) voice is going to be different.”

(Junsu said that) in his thirties, he wishes to be a musician who writes songs. He said that he wants to be a composer who brings the thought of ‘I want to sing Kim Junsu’s song” when he is facing a certain situation.”

In Musical “Mozart” there is a song called “Golden Star.” It is—that you should break out of the tall walls of the castle and find the dream in the wide world and achieve it. In musicals, there are (naturally) parts which overlap with the lives of the audiences themselves and make them reflect upon themselves and bring them to tears. I will always protect you by your side, as an actor who, through musicals, comfort your lives and give you courage.”

Kim Junsu said that he wanted to become a singer who sings life, a musician who arouses memories and inspiration.

110410 Kim Jaejoong

Jaejoong, There is someone out there for you. Be praying for her and for yourself, and let time bring your dreams to fruition. Momma Cha

[Trans] 110410 Kim Jaejoong, “Loneliness—Overcoming it with Music.”

[Star Interview] JYJ Kim Jaejoong, “Loneliness—Overcoming it with Music.”

JYJ’s member Kim Jaejoong. The expression on his face, whom I met prior to the (actual) interview, was bright, and his voice was cheerful. He said that he “drank a few glasses of beer” on the interview that took place immediately prior to this one and suggested that this interview also double as a second round.

The place in which Jaejoong finished his interview with the other paper was a café in Shinmunro, Seoul. We moved to a pub in Samsungdong, where he used to live once. Inside of the car with which we moved together, he started to talk about his recent interests in order to ease the atmosphere (T/N: presumably, the reporter and Jaejoong are strangers). Actually, the talk was on the misunderstandings and the truths that mire Japan’s earthquakes and radioactivity. He struck me as a man of considerable insight. I asked him: “do you read a lot of newspapers and books?” The response that was passed to me was: “I learn more things from people than books.”

When we arrived to the pub, he poured out a few cell phones onto the aluminum table. There were six cell phones, and among them were some models that he used to use in Japan. Apparently, he does not differentiate between the cell phones as “for work” or “for family.” He also deleted many of his contacts, which at one time numbered over 1,000.

“As we push through on (only) our own strength, there was a person or two who drifted away. And, as I refrain from contacting them because I felt sad (T/N: literally, “disappointed”) (at their drifting away), it seems that the people around me are reducing (in number)… But even so, to me—I have the Members and the Fans.”

Inside Kim Jaejoong’s words were complexity. He wrote on his twitter profile “JYJ from TVXQ,” and on the day of the interview he posted a tweet reading “JYJ.” Could it be that the past and the present, the dream and the reality are muddled together?

“That TVXQ is my beginning is obvious and is unchanging. I didn’t put any other special meaning into it (T/N: changing his profile to “JYJ from TVXQ”). On posting the (tweet) that read “JYJ,” it was because upon waking up in the morning I all of a sudden felt that the whole of my life was “JYJ.” The period (at the end)? Um, that really had no particular meaning… Haha.”

In the interviews that he had with a few media sources, Kim Jaejoong brought out even private stories, such as “I’ve dated 4 women,” without concealing. He confessed his complicated and intricate family story and other things, but he said that the story that he really wanted to tell was on “music.”

“I learned so much by taking charge of all of the directing of the stage for the Thailand concert. As I took on the title of “executive director,” there were many worries. If it goes well, then it’s thanks to the staff, but if it does not go well, then it’s my fault—I had such worries too. Since I’d already made up my mind, I wanted to be responsible for everything. I went (to the venue) earlier, prior to the concert, and checked detail by detail from the placement of the stage to the routes of movement. It’s fortunate that it ended will, but in truth, it’s largely thanks to Junsu and Yoochun. Haha.”

The past 2nd and 3rd in the concert hall of Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, JYJ met with 22,000 or so fans through their World Tour 2011. Kim Jaejoong, with the staff, made everything—from the lights, movement paths, costumes, and the like. To check the time that it takes to move under the stage in order to prepare for the next stage, he took at stop watch and ran (the distance) himself.

“Because I am a singer who sing songs, I’ve often thought “ah, what would it be like if there was this such part.” If I come to direct often in the future, wouldn’t I be able to create a more perfect stage?”

This World Tour will cross major cities of Asia and North America and will decorate its splendid finale on June 11 and 12th in Korea. Kim Jaejoong is a beginner director but he was confident that he will improve little by little and will become complete in the future. The surprise revealing of the self-made songs of JYJ members through the concert was also a novel present for the fans.

“As the fans also probably felt, I think that nowadays our musical color changed slightly. In the past, we didn’t have songs like “Fallen Leaves.” It is true that we wondered whether we could do a song that did not have a beat. In order to keep pursing change, I am thinking about studying harmonics. As I create songs, it seems, also, that I need the theoretical background as well.”

As time passed, as the glasses of soju emptied, inside his words was his inner heart rather than jokes. Jaejoong talked about his inner heart that he felt while looking at the incidents relating to his former agency, the few colleagues and juniors who are changing little by little, and the wall from the world that is becoming erected without his knowledge as he receives hurt. Most of all, he repeated, over and over, that he wished to do activities that are varied, like the other members.

That he had a swelled heart that hoped that when the conflict with the former agency died down, he would be able to meet with the fans often through TV– is his revelation of his true feelings. The image of Jaejoong who sometimes shows tears during fan meetings floated to my mind. At my question that asked whether he was lonely, he instead responded with laughter.

“Where and how shall I meet with fans? Actually, the majority of recent worries is precisely that. I believe that everything will be okay. I plan to sing for all of my life, I can’t become worn out. Haha.”
