Editor’s Note:120330 Rooftop Prince–Dance, Dance, Splash!!…Yoochun Busts A Move

All of us avid fans know how beautifully Micky Yoochun can bust a dance move and make it look as if he invented dancing, savoir faire and all… Well, if you took a gander at his energetic dance moves in Episode Four of Rooftop Prince you would laugh so hard as to see stars. Everyone is assuming that Yi Gak is unbelievably lazy, not spoiled, and so no one guesses that the motivational, talented gyrater in the white costume is Yi Gak himself. As all of the Prince’s Men dance to help sell the strawberries for their kind benefactress Bak Ha–the people swarm to buy. The impetus–Yi Gak who has donned the costume to help the cause. As a matter of fact–he dances so hard that he swoons dramatically; and since it is assumed that he is a girl no one removes his costume.

While still clothed in this hot monstrosity, Yi Gak is frightened and angered by Bak Ha, who confides her decision to return to America, thinking that he is her long time actress friend. Without revealing his identity, Yi Gak walks away with the knowledge that he cannot tell his men of her decision. What will they do? Yi Gak watches TV at her friend’s apartment and sees “The Crown Princess” dressed in a wedding gown on the Shopping Channel. He takes a cab to the location and confronts Hong Se Na with her infidelity.

Yong Tae-Mu, his cousin who aspires to the company throne, comes to her rescue and hits Yi Gak so hard that he is thrown into the water and drowns much like two years previously. Tae Mu is horrified, thinking that he has killed two men, but miraculously Yi Gak survives.

We are left with a confused Crown Prince who decides that it is his duty to assume the character of the grandson to win his ‘true’ love. It will be intriquing to see where all of this is leading… Episode Five–we are waiting…

[TRANS] 120329 JYJ Which Cannot Be Heard In “Inkigayo”, Can Be Heard In “Rooftop Prince”

In the third episode of “Rooftop Prince”, which was broadcast on SBS on 28 March, it seems that compared to the attractive development of the plot, the melodious music is more attention grabbing. However, you may still miss it if you are not paying attention.

The music that appears when the crown prince’s 3-man consort, Song Man Bo (played by Lee Min Ho), Do Chi San (played by Choi Woo Shik) and Woo Yong Sul (played by Jung Suk Won), make a video call to the crown prince, Lee Gak (played by Park Yoochun), at the fast food joint is “Be My Girl” from JYJ’s first official album, “The Beginning”.

Aside from that, JYJ’s “Be The One”, also from “The Beginning”, appears when Park Ha (played by Han Ji Min) is at the departmental store with her mother.

It is normal for singer-turned-actors to have their songs played in the dramas, but for JYJ songs to appear in “Rooftop Prince” is something special for JYJ and their fans, since it is usually not easy to hear these songs on programmes. Although JYJ is able to appear in dramas, and appear actively in news programmes, they are still not able to appear on music programmes.

Perhaps someday we would be able to hear JYJ’s songs not as background music, but as live performances. And perhaps someday we will be able to see these three men stand proudly on the stage of music programmes.

[TRANS] 120330 JYJ Park Yoochun, “I Want To Repay The Popularity Of “Rooftop Prince” With Good Acting”

JYJ’s Park Yoochun has expressed his love for the character he plays in “Rooftop Prince.”

Park Yoochun, who has been praised for his fresh acting in the SBS drama “Rooftop Prince” said,  “Actually, when I am on set, there is no time to check the responses so it is hard to have get a feel on this.” and “The people around have told me that the responses have been really good, so I feel really happy” he revealed.

In this drama, Yoochun plays the role of Joseon crown prince Lee Gak, who travels 300 years to the modern day, and his back-and-forth acting between a comical and serious, romantic role has driven up the popularity of “Rooftop Prince”

Yoochun expressed his love for the role, saying “I’m happy, but I also feel the burden of having to live up to such great expectations, but with this in mind, I focus on my acting and want to respond with great acting skills.” and “Now, Lee Gak is in a rather sorry state, I hope that everyone can be understanding towards him, and support the crown prince.”

The drama representatives said, “The character of the crown prince, who had a time slip and came into the modern day is unrealistic so we were worried, but Yoochun has shown great acting, and the viewers have showed great interest from an early stage in the situation surrounding the crown prince Lee Gak and feels close to this character, which I think is the reason for the rising ratings.” and “From now on, the story will describe how Lee Gak tries to deal with the modern society on his own, and I’m sure that he will gain even more love from the viewers.”

The ratings for “Rooftop Prince” have been rising continuously, and is looking to take the top spot for the Wednesday-Thursday drama slot.

Cecilia Morel Make-up Oriental Style and Meeting with JYJ

Seoul. The second day of Cecilia Morel in Seoul transformed into a huge introduction to the korean culture.  During the second and last day of the Nuclear Summit, Morel had lunch with the first ladies. The lunch appointment was in the Blue House, seat of the government, that was built in Korean style. “We had to pull off our shoes to enter the house” said Cecilia, who had to put on special footwear.

She sampled the local food during lunch, and spent a lot of time with the korean first lady, Kim YoonOk, who was sitting right next to her .  The main event came after lunch, which began with a dance show with performers wearing traditional clothes. Later, Cecilia met JYJ, the most popular korean k-pop group who were in Santiago [Chile] in the beginning of March . ”I went to meet them and congratulated them. It was funny because two of them were very blonde, blonde, blonde, blonde. It was also funny because they look like Korean rock stars, and for me, that is something new and it catches attention” said Cecilia.

Hallyu (the Korean Wave), a term coined to describe the widespread popularity and regional/trans-regional influence of Korean cultural products, has recently come into its own as a subject of academic inquiry and broad intellectual interest. However, while much attention has been paid to the impact of the Korean Wave on Korea’s national image or domestic economy, as well as its implications for transnational cultural flow, there has been little discussion about the impact of new communication technologies, such as social media.

Hallyu is indeed entering the new age of social media. For the last few years, Facebook, Twitter, youtube, cyworld, and myriad social networking websites have boosted the dissemination of Korea’s popular media contents to regions where the traditional media– theatrical distributions, TV networks, and DVD/VCD sales– had never reached before. Korean films, TV dramas and variety shows, online games, comics, and popular songs are now being shared, distributed and consumed in cyberspace at an unprecedented pace.

“Hallyu 2.0: The Korean Wave in the Age of Social Media” conference seeks to comprehend and interpret the meaning of this new and powerful cultural industry. The conference will stage interdisciplinary dialogues among scholars of cinema, media, and visual studies, and of area studies and communication studies, by implicating multiple approaches in deciphering the intricate web of contemporary media ecosystems.
