The Japanese and Chinese media have followed the American press and have published an array of articles on the ’2011 SMTOWN LIVE in New York’ concert that was held in New York’s Madison Square Garden on the 23rd.
In an article on the 26th, the major Japanese daily newspaper Sankei Sports introduced the New York performance and described the highlight of each SM artiste’s performance, saying that, “K-pop has taken over the birthplace of entertainment.”
The article described the ending stage as “The moment New Yorkers acknowledged the SM family,” when TVXQ’s Yunho said, “Thank you New York!” and was met by everyone in the audience standing up and cheering.
Nikkan Sports had the headline “SM TOWN Appears in New York City, Finishes Off With The Crowd Going Wild” and talked about the passionate response the concert received from its American fans. The article talked about a flashmob that was done in Central Park in July to call for a SM concert in New York, and introduced the immense popularity of the SM TOWN LIVE concert.
The Chinese portal site Huanqui wrote, “The SM concert in New York was a sensation in New York’s Madison Square Garden and showed the world the charm of K-Pop.”
Meanwhile, the New York Times article described the singers as acts “any American reality-TV talent show or major-label A&R department worth its salt would be thrilled to have discovered.” Billboard posted a review of the concert with the headline, “K-Pop Hits Madison Square Garden at SMTown Live” while the New York Daily News released a special article on the concert, highlighting the interview with Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany.

Many are curious to see if SM singers will appear in M.net’s awards ceremony MAMA for the first time in three years.
It has been found that M.net is optimistic about the possibility because SM singers have been appearing in M.net’s ‘M! Countdown’ as well as its other awards shows. As TVXQ, Super Junior, f(x) and Girls’ Generation have all been active this year, they will ‘most definitely’ be invited to the awards show and with SM deciding to make amends with M.net, there should be no problems with them accepting the invitations.
MAMA will be holding a press conference at the Sangam CGV on the 1st of next month, and it seems that the hottest topic of the day will be whether or not SM will be participating in the awards show. A representative stated, “Though we can’t yet reveal the official list of stars who will be attending, there’s nothing stopping SM singers from coming.”
The only hurdle is their schedules. All of the SM singers have packed schedules for the end of the year, and it will take time to move things around to accommodate to the awards show. TVXQ will be attending the ’2011 Billboard K-Pop Masters’ concert at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas on the 25th of November, so it might not be easy for them to appear at MAMA two days later. The other groups also have tight schedules, so they will need time before they confirm any appearances.
The singers of SM Entertainment have not appeared in MAMA (or MKMF as it was known in the past) since TVXQ won the ‘Album of the Year Award’ in 2008. When only the members of JYJ, who were in a lawsuit with SM, were invited in 2009 to receive an award on behalf of TVXQ, SM and M.net’s dispute exploded. Since then, SM’s choice on whether or not to appear in the awards show has been a hot issue every year.
MAMA will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on the 29th of November.

Taiwan’s MTV24 reported that “Tohoshinki’s new album “TONE” exceeded 240,000 copies in sales, and was the top seller for the week of 15-22 October. They said, “This album has three different covers in red, blue and yellow. Each album has 6 photos using different concepts. If you put all three albums together, you can see “It’s My Way.”” and also “The songs in the album blend both members’ powerful performance skills with their exceptional vocals, igniting its popularity.”
On 29 October, Tohoshinki will be released their photobook with the concept of “Two mature men’s holiday,” named “El Sol.” After completing their Asian fan party tour, they will be holding a nationwide concert tour in Japan next year.

Therefore, the photobook is expected to not only help fans relive their memories of the tour, but also give fans who weren’t able to attend the concerts a full view of the experience.

From the ever-popular Tohoshinki, Changmin’s first challenge in a starring role, the hot topic love comedy “Paradise Ranch” DVD will be released on 2 November. For this release, Changmin will be personally recording the Japanese voice-over for his character in the drama, a first in the history of Korean dramas. Images of him during process has been taken, a must see for fans.
This is a story about a divorced couple who meet again after 6 years and are forced to live together, a quirky start to this romantic love comedy. Changmin plays a 3rd generation chaebol, Dong Joo who is cool and charming, with the heroine Da Ji played by actress Lee Yeon Hee, who became popular after dramas such as “East of Eden.” This drama is set to broadcast on Fuji TV’s “Hanryu α” starting November.
The DVD-BOX which will be released on 2 November will include special videos of Changmin personally challenging the voice-overs for the key scene of Dong Joo (Changmin) and Da Ji’s (Lee Yeon Hee) first meeting after their divorce, when the two were innocent newlyweds, and other famous scenes from the drama. There is also a making video of Changmin’s real face during his first challenge at dubbing. Although discouraged by his first attempt, Changmin said “It is definitely a difficult challenge, but it has to be done so I’ll try my best!” taking on the dubbing with strong enthusiasm. As expected, his actual performance was…?
The “Paradise Ranch” DVD-BOX I & II will be on sale from 2 November.

These are the 3 versions of the albums that were not released in Taiwan. Red, Blue and Yellow. When we placed the three together, we’ll get something amazing. What’s that? See, right here. What is written there? “It Is My Way.” It can only be seen when you piled them together. It’s quite a special design. There’s a card inside the album too which I’ll introduce to you all later. YH:First of all, we released an album in Korea after a long while. Therefore we had a chance to meet with Japanese fans. This album was prepared with great work and we anticipate fans’ responses. Japanese album released in Taiwan
CM:For this album.. This album is named TONE. There are various meaning to it, eg. sound, color etc. When we first heard of this title and knew of the various meaning when used differently. As an singer, if we are able to control the various tone, it should be the best joy, isn’t it? To name this album as TONE, and in this album, other than the ballads and dance numbers we are used to, we tried something that’s similar to a fast tempo band-type and club music etc. As we tried various music genres, it is an album that’s worth everyone’s attention.
About the good sales results of the Japanese album
YH: Firstly, we want to thank everyone and other than loving TVXQ, we enjoy our work and would like to close up the distance between our fans and us. Hopefully everyone will listen to our songs and we will become an even more hardworking TVXQ.
About TONE’s train
CM: When we heard about this, we felt that it’s very novel. When I saw the photos on the net, I really wish to go there and take a commemorative photo myself. However due to some problems and time issue, I wasn’t able to do it. If I had the chance, I would like to take a ride on that train.
Any plans for performances in Taiwan?
YH: To be honest, there’s no confirmed plan as of now. But next year, there’s a plan for Asia Tour and it’s still under discussion. We’ll let Taiwanese fans know if it’s confirmed. Maybe in the near future, the good news will arrive.
