Park Yoochun hit a home run in his second challenge in acting as well and succeeded in advancing. Hello. This is Park Yoochun. As for a while the JYJ World Tour and the filming for Miss Ripley coincided my body was a bit tired also. But as we get such good responses the fatigue just washes away. Even though it is acting that is still lacking you are lenient so I am thankful. In order to portray the sensitivity of Song Yoohyun who is doing his best in order to overcome his wounds, I have for a moment put away “Park Yoochun, the human being” and is only thinking of Miss Ripley as I live. Since I am very immersed in the character it is to the degree that I am worried about the process of coming back to regular life after the drama is over. As the drama is going to its end it is true that I am getting more and more busy. The filming set of our drama Miss Ripley which is run neatly even when everything is flying all over the place—I will show you.

1. I am immersing myself in emotions. You know that I am very wrought with worries in the drama nowadays, right? If one were to come to know of the fact that the past of the woman that he loves were all lies, what kind of feelings would he have. This is me getting into the character. Do you not feel the anxiety/tension as if one has stepped onto the stage of “I am a Singer”?

2. I am monitoring the scene just filmed. Even though I have risen on countless stages as I did activities as a group, it is still a bit awkward to see myself acting. Ah, it is not good to have the eyes like that in that scene… Director-nim, let’s have one more take!

3. This is Choi Isub Director-nim who has momentarily stopped filming to give me acting instructions. Since this is a scene that requires expression of such deep feelings it is not easy for me to act. Oh I am sorry Director-nim T_T.

4. This is my having a fun date with Lee Dahae sunbae-nim. Ah, I wish that I could in reality meet with a girlfriend instead of dating in music videos and dramas.

5. This is the script of Miss Ripley. You see the highlighter marks that are meticulously checked right? I am an actor Park Yoochun who looks and looks at the script over and over until it becomes ragged!

6. As I was waiting for my turn in filming in the waiting room I fell into a trance of playing by myself. This is what is called the “lazy man’s push-ups.” This is a method used when the body is tired but you feel that you should work out, sometimes.

7. A photo with Zhang Yong sunsaeng-nim who is appearing as my father in Ripley and the CEO of Mondo Group! He is a “big” sunbae nim who waits for me to do well even if I make NG’s.

8. “Oh, Awesome Man!” Do you not feel the wild appeal? This is the true nature of the “male” Park Yoochun. This was a difficult scene because a complicated emotion had to be present along with having to keep your muscles firm.

9. This is the open set that was held in Yongin. Thankfully, in order to see me, this many Japanese fans came. I am so thankful because they watched the filming with order.

10. Choi Wonsuk Director-nim of Team B is teaching me the line of movement. Outdoors filming on a hot summer day is so difficult. The woman behind me is my stylist, who is wiping off the sweat that pours without cease.

11. Sleeping for a bit while waiting for the filming. This is a photo that makes the professional spirit of Park Yoochun shine, who is sleeping with stomach down lest the hair that is already styled may get mussed.

12. A rod-shaped fan that is making the back of my head cool. The staff is really working hard.

13. This is the “Mickey Fan.” It has a Mickey Mouse logo and so we call it a “Mickey Fan.” You do know that when I am working as a group my name is “Micky Yoochun,” right? Haha!

The episode of “Miss Ripley” which was aired nationwide on July 12th night stayed at 16.5% all day. This is 2.3 points higher than the previous highest rating ,which was at 14.2%. And with only two more episodes to go before the final round, it seems that “Miss Ripley” will keep this first place rating firmly.

Meanwhile, other dramas that were broadcasted at the same time had ratings of 13.7% and 8.3%.

Kim Jaejoong spoke at an interview with Star News on July 12th, “Yoochun’s habit during acting is to raise his eyebrows in order to express his emotions. It was the same during the filming of Sungyunhwan Scandal but because of his costume it wasn’t that visible.”

From the recent drama “Miss Ripley”, “In his emotional scenes with Lee Da Hae, I’ve counted his eyebrows being raised more than ten times,” Jaejoong said laughing.

Kim Jaejoong and Park Yoochun who have the friendship of brothers, Park Yoochun is ahead of Jaejoong in the area of drama and acting and so has shown good advice, friendship, and a good presence to Jaejoong.

In regards to this, Jaejoong said that, “It’s not that I want to explain all the details of Yoochun’s life as a star, but I think he can get advice from what I felt from his acting,” Jaejoong also spoke further about Yoochun’s acting, stating that, “When acting, you can feel a certain freedom. I’m jealous of this freedom and wonder when I will experience it too.”

On the day of the interview, Jaejoong met Yoochun at a hair salon, who was preparing for a shooting of “Miss Ripley”. He said that, “Even while he was getting his hair shampooed, he still had his script in his hand and was memorizing his lines. “It seems that because of his tight schedule sleep is about an hour, his eyebags seems to reaching down to his lips.”

Editors Note on “Goodbye Miss Ripley” as Public Exposure to “Female Victimization”

Some time ago, when “Goodbye Miss Ripley” first started airing on Mondays and Tuesdays on MBC, I stated that I would write a layman’s critical review of this melodrama at some point in its run. I wanted to do this because “Goodbye Miss Ripley” is based upon a true story. The drama that we are seeing played out actually happened and does happen every day to many people around the world. Even in modern industrial nations that boast of their ‘human rights’ agendas, women, girls, and to a lesser extent, men and boys, are being snatched from the streets; parking lots; school lots; their homes, and other environments to be sold into sex slavery in their own country or other countries. Many are simply taken and imprisoned for the perverted pleasure of one individual person. Some escape or are rescued, some are still in bondage, and some die in their imprisonment. Prostitution, which is fueled by poverty, low self-esteem, and the diverted eyes of authority, still runs rampant in every town.

Some third world countries still have slavery as it has existed, in its original form, throughout the centuries.

Incest and rape exist in large proportions right in victim’s family homes–in places where the right to live peaceably and quietly is expected to be a guarantee. Perversion on the Internet enters many peoples lives either as “entertainment’ or as “fuel” that leads to the abuse of others.

Those of us sitting safely in our homes enjoying “Goodbye Miss Ripley” for the sake of watching a good melodrama, or just supporting Park Yoochun in his work as an actor, cannot imagine the fear and degrading circumstances that these victims face. This is a global tragedy of infinite proportions, and even though “Goodbye Miss Ripley’ is not the atypical Asian drama, it has its place in educating and alerting those who watch it to the tragic results of neglecting and dehumanizing people in our societies. The story line of “Miss Ripley” is built upon the placement of orphans, without proper assessment by professionals of the families adopting, and the situations of adoption.

I sat down to write about this melodrama as a whole, but I find myself more concerned about exploring the reasons behind Miss Ripley’s character. Her inability to trust is what fuels her behavior, with fear as the predominant motivator of her actions. Over time, her survival methods have dulled her conscience to what is right and wrong to the extent that she has no inhibitions against lying, stealing, and using others to achieve her personal goals. She lives in a world of denial, unable to see her own faults and continually blaming others for her crimes. She possesses cunning, another survival instinct, that keeps her ahead of the game.
Miss Ripley does have feelings and desires to live free of poverty as is revealed in her pursuit of first Jang Myeong Hoon, Manager of the Hotel, and then her subsequent pursuit of Song Yuhyun based upon his more elevated status as the Junior CEO of the Conglomerate Mondo Resort Group. She rises to the top by forging her credentials and employing devious methods to achieve her goals. Miss Ripley exploits her lifelong friend from the orphanage by taking everything valuable from her to create value for herself.

As Miss Ripley has unfolded, the intricacy of the characterizations has been impressive. What gives this drama strength is its basis in reality, and the ability of the screenwriters to merge so many personalities in creating such a poignant story. The ending to this melodrama is still yet to come. We wait with bated breath to discover whether the redemption of Miss Ripley’s character is nigh–or will she fall victim once again to those who neglected her earlier in life.

Lee Da Hae uses a thick, black umbrella to block out the sun while turning on a portable fan to cool herself down. It has been revealed that the cute and small portable electric fan is the item Lee Da Hae uses the most to survive the blazing temperatures. Whenever she’s waiting for her turn or taking a break, she has her fan turned on, chasing away the summer heat.

Kim Seung Woo is also another user of small, portable fans. To fit his title as a CEO of a hotel, Kim Seung Woo usually wears long-sleeved formal suits, meaning that he can’t help but feel scorched in the burning heat. Staff say that he has his fan turned on whenever he takes a break and cools his body down by drinking cool beverages.

Park Yoochun, who is more susceptible to summer heat than most, is having a hard time filming outside because he sweats a lot. The lighting crew sometimes fan him with their large reflecting plates while the staff members who move around with him fan his face continuously with their own fans. Whenever a scene is over, Park Yoochun fans his face with his own hands in an attempt to cool down.

The production company stated, “Though they face blazing temperatures over 30℃, the actors are working hard to film all their scenes as they fight off the summer heat,” and “They’re using various items such as portable fans and cool beverages to improve the completion of the drama. Please continue to watch over these actors who are doing their best.”

“Miss Ripley” is a story about a woman who accidentally tells a lie, which leads to one lie after another and ends up caught in a web of lies, a classic melodrama. With societal issues as its material, coupled with the strong elite cast of Lee Da Hae, Kim Seung Woo, Park Yoochun and Kang Hye Jung, it has been a hot tppic from its planning stage.

Joint writer Kim Sun Young was responsible for the screenplay for “Miss Ripley,” and previously won best screenplay for a drama in 1994. Also, through “The Season Of Puberty”、”Love & Farewell,” “Sleeping With the Enemy,” “Mr. Duke,” “Pretty Lady,” “Jang Hee-Bin” and other works, she has managed to gain much love from viewers.

Park Yoochun, who is playing the role of conglomerate heir Song Yoo Hyun in MBC’s “Miss Ripley” said that he wouldn’t be able to accept the relationship if the situation in the drama happened to him in real life.

On 7 July, the “Miss Ripley” site released a Park Yoochun interview video, in which he spoke about his role in the drama as well as his thoughts and issues faced when playing the character.

He said, “I did not place any emphasis on the role of CEO, but thought more about the past and future of Song Yoo Hyun as a person when playing the role.”

About participating in the drama OST with “An Empty Space Left For You,” Park Yoochun said, “I heard it got on the charts, but I have yet to see it for myself. I recieved this song while we were touring in America. Upon returning to Korea, we recorded the song in between shootings, and made changes to the song twice. However, I personally feel that there are still parts that could have been improved.”

Park Yoochun emphasized, “When I appear on the television screen, I feel slightly embarassed.” “And while I am on screen, my song plays in the background.It feels strange.” He said, showing his embarassment.

Recently, he changed his image and is now sporting a short hairstyle, which shows off his good looks even more, and to this Park Yoochun said, “Initially, we wanted to get it cut at episode 2 or 3, but due to the worldwide concerts, (the haircut) was delayed till now.” “In the later part of the drama, there will be emotional scenes. Therefore, based on the director, screenplay and staffs’ opinions, I cut my hair.”

Also, “Miss Ripley ‘s” Song Yoo Hyun recently found out that Jang Miri had approached him with an ulterior motive, increasing the excitement level of the drama. To this, Park Yoochun said, “Currently. (Yoo Hyun) is hit hard, but despite that, he doesn’t change his mind about his love immediately, choosing to uncover the whole truth instead.”

Park Yoochun also said, “Although I would want to understand and accept her past, but to forget all this would indeed be difficult.” “If I accept her past, I would have to consider the pain that I suffer daily. If it were me, I wouldn’t be able to do it. [News] 110706 MBC may extend “Miss Ripley” by four more episodes

On July 6th, representatives of MBC revealed that they were in discussions for extending “Miss Ripley” for an extra two weeks.

The drama is originally scheduled for a 16-episode run, which is set to conclude on July 19th. Should the drama be extended for another two weeks, it’ll have a total of 20 episodes and end on August 2nd.

A representative revealed, “It isn’t confirmed yet, but there’s a high possibility that ‘Miss Ripley’ will be extended. We’re currently discussing the addition of about two weeks, so we have yet to also confirm the broadcast date for the pilot episode of its follow-up, ‘Kyebaek‘.”

JYJ (Park Yoochun, Kim Jaejoong, Kim Junsu) recently bought over a recording studio near Gangnam, Seoul.

JYJ representatives said, “Recently, JYJ bought a recording studio and is currently undergoing renovation. As their main activities are based on their own compositions, they would need their own specialized recording studio. After the ending of the first album’s activities, this period of time where they individually are active in musical and dramas, they feel that there is a need to prepare for a recording space.”

It was known that JYJ intends to bring in new sound systems and have personally involved with the interior designing etc, they would use this designated space for their music production. This recording studio have cultivated Uhm Jung Hwa, Koyote, Solbi etc, and it was managed by domestic renowned album management company Trifecta and Up Town’s Chris Jung.

Additionally, JYJ held their concerts, starting from 2nd April at Thailand, through Taiwan, China, Canada and 4 cities of America, and Korea’s Busan and Gwangju, a totally of 7 countries and 10 cities.

After which, Park Yoochun returned as an actor through MBC drama ‘Miss Ripley’, Kim Junsu performed in the encore performance of musical ‘Mozart’ and Kim Jaejoong will be taking on his first acting challenge in domestic market through SBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Protect the Boss’.
