Korean group JYJ have been unable to perform in official activities in Japan and other countries, but their popularity is just as before, and could probably be even growing stronger.
JYJâs world tour concert in Ibaraki, Japan kicked off on 15 October, and attracted an audience of 80,000 people over 2 days. The upcoming special version of âIn Heavenâ to be released in November, which includes a DVD to thank the fans, has dominated the preorder charts of various large record stores. The Jamshil concert DVD that was released last week was sold out on Amazon immediately after it went on sale, showing their extraordinary popularity.
Despite not having any overseas activities, JYJ has still managed to keep in contact with their fans via social networking tools such as twitter. In October, Kim Jaejoong even took the 2nd place after AKB48 in Japanâs influential fashion awards, proving his high level of popularity.
The fans have also shown great concern for JYJâs individual activities. Park Yoochunâs âSungKyunKwan Scandalâ DVD remained at the top of the DVD rental rankings for an entire month, âMiss Ripleyâ and Kim Jaejoongâs âProtect The Bossâ have been broadcast in Japan and met with an enthusiastic response. The recently released âProtect the Bossâ OST also took first place in total sales ranking of Gmarket Japan. Starring Kim Junsu, the musical âKim Junsuâs Musical Concertâ also became a hot topic when it was released.

K-pop groups KARA and TVXQ have been nominated for the top prize of the 53rd Japan Record Awards, while 2NE1 has been nominated for Best New Artist, the awards committee announced on Saturday. Â
A major music awards show held annually in Japan, the Japan Record Awards is organized and hosted by the Japan Composerâs Association.

Ten acts have been nominated for the top award this year, including Nishino Kana, Mizumori Kaori, Hikawa Kiyoshi, and AKB48. KARA has been nominated for âGo Go Summer!â while TVXQ is being for âWhy? (Keep Your Head Down)â All of the nominees automatically share the Best Song award, and the top prize winner will be announced on the day of the ceremony.
KARA debuted in Japan in 2010, and received the New Artist of the Year Award from the Japan Gold Disc Awards the same year. The group released two studio albums and five singles in Japan since their debut. Their third Japanese single, âJet Coaster Loveâ topped the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart during its first week of release.
TVXQ, on the other hand, has topped the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart nine times since their Japanese debut in 2005. Initially a five-member group, TVXQ returned as a duo consisting of Yunho and Changmin in January, after the three original members â Jae-joong, Yoochun, and Junsu â left the group over a dispute about their 13-year contract with S.M. Entertainment back in 2009. After their return in January with a new Japanese single âWhy (Keep Your Head Down),â the duo also released a Japanese studio album titled âTONEâ in September. The full-length album sold more than 200,000 copies during its first week of release. Â
Meanwhile, 2NE1, which just had a highly successful concert in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Saturday, has been nominated for the Best New Artist prize, along with three Japanese musicians â Ito Miyu, Super Girls, and Fairies. Like the top prize nominees, the four Best New Artist prize nominees are automatically given a New Artist prize, with the Best New Artist winner honored on the awards night.
The girl group debuted in Japan in September with their mini-album âNolza.â The album topped Japanâs Oricon chart the same week. They held their first Japanese concert, â1st Live Concert: Nolza in Japanâ at Yokohama Arena on Sept. 19 and 20.
Last year, Girlsâ Generation was nominated for the Best New Artist, and Big Bang was one of 10 artists to get a Best Song award, for âTell Me Goodbye.â
The awards ceremony is scheduled to be broadcast live through Japanâs TBS at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 30.

JYJâs Junsu has shown his âticket powerâ once again.
According to his management agency, when the first round of ticket sales for Junsuâs musical [Elisabeth] opened at 10am on 22 November, more than half of the tickets for all the shows available were sold out within 10 minutes.
In particular, all of Junsuâs performances were sold out. Junsu participated in [Mozart!] last year, as well as in [Tears of Heaven] and the encore performances for [Mozart!] this year, and each time all the tickets for all of his performances were sold out. The musical [Elisabeth] is a piece of work which depicts the dramatic life of the beautiful queen Elisabeth and her fantasy-like love story.
On the other hand, preparations for the musical [Elisabeth] have begun and it will run for approximately 3 months, from 9 February to 13 May 2012, at the Blue Square Samsung Electronics Hall.

Prior to the â2011 Billboard K-POP MASTERSâ which will be held on 25-26 November at the MGM Grand Arena, TVXQ greeted everyone via Billboard Korea from Japan, and spoke about their recent activities.
On the upcoming stage, TVXQ expressed that âWith the K-pop fever burning strong throughout the world, weâre really happy to be able to perform on such a meaningful stage.â
Following that, they said with confidence that they âwant to show the fans of K-pop a charming image of themselves. A TVXQ stage that is exclusive to Las Vegas is being prepared, so please look out for itâ
