[Trans] 111124 Changmin (Tohoshinki), With A Girl He Likes, “My Approach Would Be Instinctive, Just Being Myself”

A popular drama aired on Korea’s SBS, the complete DVD Box for drama “Paradise Ranch” starring Changmin (Tohoshinki) was released on 2 November.

With this, Changmin, who is acting as the lead in a drama for the first time, talks about his feelings when acting in this show, his favourite scenes, his ideal type of girl and newlywed-couple life in relation to the drama, his approach towards girls as well as the episode where Yunho visits him on set, in this official interview which has finally arrived.

◆ ◆ ◆

This is your first starring role in a drama, please tell us how you feel about your acting.

As drama is my first project, before the shooting I was already nervous. This is a kind of work I have never ever done before, so it was difficult. But when the shooting started, I got used to it after a while, and I could have fun with it. The location for the filming was really nice, so that was great too. As for the show, as this was my first challenge so I can’t say that I was confident but compared to my initial acting, thinking “If I did it this way, wouldn’t it better?” was how I decided to look at this.

How did you take on the role of Dong Joo?

I watched similar dramas, and observed characters that were similar to Dong Joo. I studied Korean dramas with contents about arguing with your partner and unknowingly coming to like the other person, such as  “Fantasy Couple” and “Alone in Love.” I also searched for similarities between myself and Dong Joo, and tried to express that.

What are the similarities between yourself and Dong Joo?

Being straightforward in expressing our feelings, and being short-tempered, probably (Laughs). Dong Joo’s emotions fluctuate a lot, and I’m that type as well, and since we’re similar in that way, it was easier to act it out and that was good. Of course, I can’t say that Dong Joo and I are totally the same, but I don’t there was anything that was completely different about the both of us.

Please tell us if there were any scenes that were your favourite, or any lines that left a deep impression on you.

The scene were Dong Joo was changing clothes in Da Ji’s house. Da Ji came into Dong Joo’s room, and said “My father is coming so you have to hide!” This hiding scene. It was an interesting scene to act in. Even though I was half-naked (Laughs), it was a really comical scene so I really enjoyed it.

What was difficult (about shooting the drama)?

The shooting started in winter so it was really cold. In terms of scenes, it was the scene where I was calling my mother while drinking. I’ve never acted drunk before, but I was actually drinking wine as we did the shoot. I was drinking all the way since the morning, and I ended up drunk and that was really difficult. (laughs). However, it was a good experience.

Dong Joo and Yeon Hee had a very tumultuous newlywed-couple life, but please tell us about your ideal girl and newlywed-couple life.

I think that as Dong Joo and Yeon Hee are first loves, and they couldn’t do anything, and couldn’t do without each other, a mutually-dependent existence.  They are young so they are optimistic and passionate, but I don’t think you need to keep being that way. For me, although it is important to treat your partner kindly and consider their feelings, having a friend-like relationship is good. Although we will argue, be it going out and having fun, or interests and other things should be shared as well. As for my ideal girl, a reliable girl would be good. This job (of mine) is full of instability, so I think that having a girl who can help me remain composed would be great. Someone feminine and cheerful would be nice.

Dong Joo wavers between Yeon Hee and Jin Young, but for you (Changmin) who would you pick between the two of them?

To be honest, I want to add the both of them together then split it into half (laughs). Basically, I don’t want to give up either of them. Jin Young is a woman that any man would yearn for. She’s a good career woman, and initially it wasn’t the case by in the end, she helps to protect Dong Joo. This kind of woman is probably the dream of any man. For Da Ji, compared to Jin Young, she has more energy and is not as feminine but more…like an auntie? (Laughs) However, for me, that is her charm, and I feel that she is very reliable. Even though they aren’t sure of their mutual feelings, aren’t they still dependent on each other?

Dong Joo is a character that doesn’t express his true feelings for Da Ji, saying nasty things to her all the time, but for Changmin, what is your approach towards a girl that you like?

I won’t do it like Dong Joo, who says nasty things and bullies his partner even though he likes her. I won’t fool around, and I won’t try to analyze her thoughts. Rather, I think my approach would be instinctive, and just being myself. From a girl’s point of view, I think I would be easy to get along with. (Laughs)

During filming, it seems that Yunho went to the shooting location in Jeju island to visit you, so please tell us about any episodes during that time. Also, did you get any advice from Yunho, or any feedback with regards to the drama?

I said “Don’t come, don’t come,” but he stubbornly came anyway….  What Yunho had told be before filming was, to do it naturally and not be nervous, and he said a lot of things. As for watching this drama…we didn’t give any actual feedback to each other regarding each of our dramas, but he said “It was interesting, and good.”

So you and Yunho be performing together as actors in the future?

No. (Laughs) I do feel that I want to show everyone “Changmin” as an actor, but when it’s the two of us, we become Tohoshinki, don’t we.. I only just started acting, so I can’t say that I want to see this, but from now on I will work even harder to improve my acting, and show everyone various sides of me.

This was your first challenge in acting, and what is the difference between acting and singing activities? Also, do you see any changes in yourself, or any improvements etc in your activities as a singer?

Putting your feelings into it and expressing yourself is the same. However, in a song, you express one feeling for about 3 to 6 minutes, whereas in acting you have to naturally express all the little changes in emotions that you see in everyday life. It’s different from singing, and it was difficult. After actually trying it out, I think my range of expressions has increased, and this was really useful.

This drama is a love comedy, what kind of genre do you wish to challenge in a drama or movie in the future?

In the future if I have an chance to act, I will definitely give this challenge a try. In terms of genre, I always liked romantic comedies so I wanted to try it, and also a story about youths around my age, with a school as a setting, a school drama is something I would like to try.

Is there a place like “Paradise Ranch” or a time where you can recuperate from your busy everyday life?

After the day is over, I drink beer. This beer is a reward to myself, which says “Ah~ It’s over! I worked really hard today.”

Please leave a message to all your Japanese fans, about watching Paradise Ranch, or about your future plans etc.

Not just the lead actors, but everyone who appeared in the show disregarded their own feelings and worked dutifully. As this is a story that talks about a pure, straight love without limits, please watch it. Also, not only is it funny, the setting is set in the beautiful Jeju Island, and I think its a drama which you can enjoy and relax with. I hope that this winter, this drama will be able to warm your hearts.

111126 Oh, Cassiopeia from ~Myndless~

Posted by ~Myndless~ at 2:38 PM

Oh, Cassiopeia… =_=;;

Ah, Cassiopeia…I really do enjoy being a part of this large fandom, but ever since the latter part of 2009 things haven’t been the best.  With the seperation of the members into two groups at the moment and all the constant fighting/bashing, it turns even the nicest of fans into really mean ones.  Others who cannot handle any of the arguing simply become a ‘turned off’ fan or leave the fandom altogether.  As of right now, the fans are split into three groups: JYJ stans, HoMin stans, and OT5 stans.  In the case of OT5, there can be subtle differences. To me, JYJ stans are quite vocal about their issues (be it with HoMin or anything else).  In the beginning, I was very much okay with how JYJ stans felt.  They must’ve found it unfair that Yunho and Changmin went on to promote asTVXQ when Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu couldn’t.  They must’ve also felt upset when the said three were (and still are) banned from any show that would help promote them.  I’m not going to lie, I feel the same way.  So, that is why I can side with JYJ stans on this:  simply because I still feel like there is some injustice towards Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu.  But lately, there have been some fans that take their frustrations a little too far and do some crazy things with it.  HoMin stans are, in my opinion, passive-agressive with their issues.  They aren’t as vocal with things as far as I’ve seen.  When the initial seperation happened, I wasn’t really to enthusiastic with them.  Yes, I’d support TVXQ, but not 2VXQ or whatever they call it.  Like JYJ stans, they make it known that they do not like the other members.  Most of their conflicts rise whenever a JYJ stan makes themselves present or whenever bashing comes into play.  OT5 stans are a little more bearable.  It depends on what type you are though.  As I had heard once, you have 2 types: ones that support the five members even through this seperation and the ones that support the five members’ work prior to.  Where do I fall in this?  I’m probably half and half.  I support all five even through this seperation, but I haven’t been as enthusiastic with listening to their recent stuff or keeping up with news on them.  If you were to ask me what would be my favorite song on the ‘In Heaven’ or ‘TONE’ albums, I’d probably just pick one out of the blue because I haven’t heard all the songs on either album.  But most OT5 stans have the same wish to see all members back together again or at least see them have their friendship restored.  There are a few who do not mind that TVXQ has split the way it has and actually don’t mind if they never get back together.  That makes me a little sad to hear it though.  The conflicts that OT5 stans have is whenever JYJ and HoMin fans fight amongst themselves or when both of those entities get into a tussle with them.  Sometimes it is what JYJ/HoMin stans say that sets off an OT5.  Thus, some mean things could come from them.  And to me, that is just as bad as being JYJ/HoMin biased.  -_-;;  I know I may have said some mean things about JYJ/HoMin stans too (just to make you all feel better).  >_<  So, no matter how you look at it, all parts of the fandom are a little rough around the edges.  Lately, JYJ stans have been getting a bad reputation for their lashing out in these past few months.  But amidst all that, I still think there are some good fans within that side of the fandom.  Just like I’m sure there are within the HoMin and OT5.  (S/N:  Just to put this out there, I’m not very fond of fans that say things like “I hate JYJ or HoMin or saying ‘ex’-members.  It aggravates me.)  It’s really sad to think this way but for fans who did abandon one side, they must’ve never really liked a few members in the first place.  -_-;;  I’d like to say that’s being a fake fan, but that may be too strong a word.  But what will those fans do when TVXQ comes back together again?  If they go back to cheering “We love you all!” all I can do is shake my head in shame because I’d consider that being finicky or two-faced.  But that’s just my opinion.
Another point I’d like to bring up is why we chose sides to begin with.  The best answer I can come up is because of wherever YOUR BIAS is.  There are other reasons I’m sure, but this one stands out like a sore thumb to me.  For example if your favorite member is Jaejoong, Yoochun, or Junsu then naturally you’ll side with JYJ.  If your favorite member is Yunho or Changmin then you’re most likely going to side with HoMin.  As far as OT5 goes, they may not have a bias because they love all members equally.  Or they can have a bias, but still just support all sides just like they did prior to the seperation.  I fall into this general category as my bias is Changmin, but I’m not a HoMin stan.  This may not be so when it comes to newbie fans because they haven’t been around long enough to know the history of TVXQ/JYJ–or if they’d even be interested for that matter.  But even OT5 stans can get misinterpreted for siding with a certain side if they have a bias.  Sometimes I had thought that about a few fans.  ^^;;  This also may be the reason for some arguments among fans: they feel their bias is threatened whenever they’re talked about in a bad way.  But this can lead to the said members being hurt in the process from our constant bickering among each other.  Trying to protect them may backfire.  I wanted to put this into a way where I could use a Greek tragedy to describe it, but I don’t know how.  But I shall try!  There is a tragedy about a woman named Medea who was so very much in love with her husband.  One day, her husband did her wrong by marrying someone esle, saying it would be for the best.  She was so distraught that she killed his new wife, that wife’s father, and the children that Medea and her husband had.  I wanted to say that fans have a ‘Medea complex’ when it comes to their biases (whether it’s in TVXQ, another fandom, or if they’re fictional).

Since we’re on the topic of Greek stories, I have another tidbit about our fandom’s name.  We are called Cassiopeia, right?  Do you know about her?  I’m sure I had said this in a previous post, but she is considered a VAIN QUEEN.  The ‘W’ in the sky is her sitting in a chair upside-down as punishment for her vanity.  Maybe that does fit our description, huh?  We boasted that we were the best fanclub, and now look at us: dragging what shredded remains of our fandom and our members through the mud.

In summary, it get’s really agitating when fans fight within their own fandom.  It turns some fans away when it happens.  JYJ fans need to calm down, and all sides do need to stop saying hateful things to one another.  Two wrongs don’t make a right.  I know that this part may take a long time since mean things do evoke us to say something back (I’m just as guilty as you are).  Lately, I try to steer away from any of these arguments.  But as a Leo likes drama, I’m attracted to it and want to make my side of the discussion known.  XD  I think that a fan’s bias has a general role to play in their actions as well.  In addition, I’d also like to say that the members themselves may need a good slap on the wrist for putting us through all of this.  ^^;;

So, with all that said…what kind of fan are you?

Interesting Post ~Myndless~I’m getting ready to cart it to JYJ Fantalk. Wow! You write so expressively. You know, I guess I am just a loving Momma who cares for all five but feels closest to JYJ because of accessibility and their personalities. If they were all back together I would love them all with just a teeny-tiny lean toward Junsu,Yoochun and Jae :), but that is the way it is right now so it really wouldn’t be much different. I guess you could say that I would try my best to treat them the same. As to the music–JYJ’s has one dynamic for me, and HoMin’s has another dynamic. Depending upon my mood–either is wonderful. I hope you don’t mind sharing because I love you too. <3 Cha

[PROJECT] Meals From The Heart

[PROJECT] Meals from the Heart

We have done multiple projects as the international fandom. Birthday projects, lightsticks project, charitable projects, you name it, we’ve all done it all for them.

However, OneTVXQ would now like to venture into an area of the Korean fan culture that the international fans have yet to achieve. We’re providing Yunho and Changmin and all the crew involved with 2 meals from the heart.
Remember these amazing projects by fellow KCassies?
More here!

This is an ambitious endeavour funding for 2 meals, especially at such a short notice. But we’re not Cassiopeia, if we don’t do things on a large scale. So let’s show them the Cassiopeia power. That we’re capable of giving them motivation and cheer in the form of a meal, the very basic necessity. (Oh we’re sure Shim Changmean will love his food. :D)
We are looking at over SGD$1500. O! will be willing to fork out for at least half of it. However, we definitely can’t do it alone. This is where you come in. We have less than a week to the event, so really hope that everyone can donate as best as they can. Here’s to letting Yunho and Changmin feel welcomed on their first visit to Singapore!

NEWS KARA, TVXQ Nominated For Japan Record Awards

KARA – The Korea Herald

TVXQ – SM Entertainment

Tohosomnia.net writes:

K-pop groups KARA and TVXQ have been nominated for the top prize of the 53rd Japan Record Awards, while 2NE1 has been nominated for Best New Artist, the awards committee announced on Saturday.

A major music awards show held annually in Japan, the Japan Record Awards is organized and hosted by the Japan Composer’s Association.

Ten acts have been nominated for the top award this year, including Nishino Kana, Mizumori Kaori, Hikawa Kiyoshi, and AKB48. KARA has been nominated for “Go Go Summer!” while TVXQ is being for “Why? (Keep Your Head Down)” All of the nominees automatically share the Best Song award, and the top prize winner will be announced on the day of the ceremony.
KARA debuted in Japan in 2010, and received the New Artist of the Year Award from the Japan Gold Disc Awards the same year. The group released two studio albums and five singles in Japan since their debut. Their third Japanese single, “Jet Coaster Love” topped the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart during its first week of release.
TVXQ, on the other hand, has topped the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart nine times since their Japanese debut in 2005. Initially a five-member group, TVXQ returned as a duo consisting of Yunho and Changmin in January, after the three original members ― Jae-joong, Yoochun, and Junsu ― left the group over a dispute about their 13-year contract with S.M. Entertainment back in 2009. After their return in January with a new Japanese single “Why (Keep Your Head Down),” the duo also released a Japanese studio album titled “TONE” in September. The full-length album sold more than 200,000 copies during its first week of release.
Meanwhile, 2NE1, which just had a highly successful concert in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Saturday, has been nominated for the Best New Artist prize, along with three Japanese musicians ― Ito Miyu, Super Girls, and Fairies. Like the top prize nominees, the four Best New Artist prize nominees are automatically given a New Artist prize, with the Best New Artist winner honored on the awards night.
The girl group debuted in Japan in September with their mini-album “Nolza.” The album topped Japan’s Oricon chart the same week. They held their first Japanese concert, “1st Live Concert: Nolza in Japan” at Yokohama Arena on Sept. 19 and 20.
Last year, Girls’ Generation was nominated for the Best New Artist, and Big Bang was one of 10 artists to get a Best Song award, for “Tell Me Goodbye.”
The awards ceremony is scheduled to be broadcast live through Japan’s TBS at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 30.

[News] Choikang Changmin, Meeting With 4,000 Japanese Fans Alone Without U-Know Yunho

TVXQ’s Choikang Changmin took part in an event alone in Japan.

On November 17 in Yokohama, Choikang Changmin held a commemorative event for the DVD sale of his drama “Paradise Ranch”. Even if it was an event restricted to only purchasers who had bought the DVD set which costs approximately 33,600 yen (about 490,000 won), about 4,000 fans flocked to the event, showing off his high popularity.

Choikang Changmin recalled the times during filming and said, “During the talking and acting scenes, I didn’t listen to other people’s words so it caused some trouble.” On this day, there were talk segments and Choikang Changmin also presented a live rendition of “Confession”, for which he personally wrote the lyrics for. He opened up and said, “I was very nervous because there have been virtually no other times when I have sung alone.” In addition, regarding him doing the dubbing personally for his own role in this DVD, he smiled bashfully and said, “It was really embarrassing.”

On this day, Lee Yeon Hee, who starred opposite Choikang Changmin in the drama, also took part in the event. Lee Yeon Hee revealed her thoughts on participating in the drama, “Thinking of the times during filming, they were really enjoyable.” In addition, a video message of U-Know Yunho was also revealed, with him saying, “I think that Changmin-ee had done a great job. He showed off a manliness which was different from usual.”
