[Trans] 120206 Now, He Is Very Pleased To Welcome Challenges – Kim Jun Su‏

[Trans] 120206 Now, He Is Very Pleased To Welcome Challenges – Kim Jun Su‏

The meeting with Kim Junsu was done after his continuous interviews since the morning and only started upon sun sets. The continuous of interviews and practices, what is going to happen if he is exhausted? To this, I was worried but in the end he replied easefully with, “I am in my best status now!”

Currently 26 years old, he said so himself, “As compared to the age, I went through much more issues.” Once as a high schooler, he debuted in TVXQ in 2004, becoming the top idol group in Asia and also a star; The fight and lawsuit against his agency in 2009 initiated an alarming storm. After which, he debuted in musical field and can simply said that it stirred up a sensation. The 3000 seats in Sejong Cultural Centre were sold out in a flash and he was born as the top star in musical field.

‘Elisabeth’ is his 3rd musical and also another challenge. Unlike the previous works, this lead needs to direct the whole musical alone; It is also unlike the innocent, pure male leads that he had acted before. Thus, he, who embraces sincerity towards musical, is once again welcoming the brand new world.

Q: Seems that you lost a lot of weight.

I exercise a bit, and only ate one meal a day. The other meals are just chicken breast meat. In the beginning, I only had chicken breast meat for all three meals but some ulcers starts to grow in my mouth and I became listless. Though the motive of dieting is for reaching the ideal weight, one should take care of the body too. I am now nursing my own health.

Q: Was the reduction of weight for this musical’s role?

The outfit for the role of ‘Death’ is a bit revealing, thus I wish to slightly sculpt my body shape. Even not for this musical, I have been thinking if I should exercise since a year ago. This (musical) provides the opportunity for me to have a try at it.

Q: It is different from the image from before, it seems to be more masculine charming.

Due to the character this time, it seems a mandatory to have such an image.

Q: ‘Elizabeth’ is starting its run in a few days’ time, how are you feeling now for this 3rd musical work?

Before the start of ‘Mozart!’ and ‘Tears of Heaven’, rather than anticipation, it was more of worry. But this time round, it seems that I’m feeling more of the anticipation. Probably it’s the 3rd time and thus (everything) seems more familiar.

Additionally, it could be the better adaptability to the musical stage and facilities, thus felt more relaxed. In the previous works, it was upon the reaching of the actual stage that I starts to get in touch with the equipments. However for this work, the rotation stage etc were already being used in the rehearsal room and in fact the worry was reduced.

Q: Regarding which part of musical that you felt better adapted?

During ‘Mozart’, I was eager to memorize the lines and movement. Compared to then, I was more able to indulge in the enjoyment of it, I felt more well-prepared. Thus as a whole, the meticulous details that I have not thought of, it all felt that I am able to consider it well now.

Q: Seems that it is not only the facilities but also the emotions that were lesser of a burden now.

In the past when was being taught by others on what to do, I would feel blushingly embarrassed. Though it will not be the case when I’m on stage, but when I was practicing, I would feel embarrassed. For example in a scene where I am supposed to cry, with everyone staring, even though they did not see me as a singer, such watching would still made me felt burdened. Additionally, due to shyness, thus I wasn’t sure what to do, standing in front. Right now, I am able to do it unsurprisingly and care-freely well. Seeing such oneself, I would actually be surprised and thought that I indeed changed a lot! Looks like I am getting closer to be a musical actor. I frequently had such satisfying thoughts appearing.

Q: The role of ‘Death’ seems to be a lot different from Kim Junsu’s playful charm that everyone knows.

To everyone’s impression, it seems that my image has been optimistic and bright. Though it was not the intention, but it (the image) seems to have deepened in everyone. My appearance in fact has more than that side. It also have another side of it and I wish to display the look that was not shown before and displaying it through this work.

Q: Was ‘Kim Junsu’s musical concert’ of 2 years ago, a premonition that you would be acting in ‘Elisabeth’?

At that time, though composer Sylvester Levay said that I was suitable for the role of Death, it was not confirmed that I was being casted. It was during rehearsal practices that upon singing two musical pieces that I felt that it is comparable to the excellence of ‘Mozart!’, it is really splendid! It was just a thought then. Afterall it is not a project of the following year but the year after and it doesn’t felt near-dated. When he came to ask about my wishes this time, it was at the timing where I was not satisfied with role-playing a similar character and had wanted to try a newer challenge, thus I wanted to do this even more.

Q: Though this is a challenge, aren’t the two previous works challenges as well?

‘Tears of Heaven’ was a huge challenge as well. Though everyone might not know this, but on the day of performance, the lines and movement lines changed and after I was on stage, it changed again. However when acting in ‘Tears of Heaven’, it made me understood musical even more. It was not a character created meticulously and it was like a painting freely painted on a white piece of paper with no specific ways of doing it. Therefore I started to learn and slowly changed the lines into my own accent. It was a piece of work that gained me a lot of experiences.

Q: In this work, ‘Elisabeth’ is a factual character yet ‘Death’ is a imaginary character. It seems difficult right?

As the other characters are of factual, thus was able to capture the feel of the characters. However it is very difficult to capture the feel of ‘Death’. Therefore I thought in a reverse way, how does Elisabeth thought of Death? After thinking like this, I had a grasp of it.

Additionally, I asked Sun Young noona and Joo Hyun noona about their interpretations of my character during acting. Though everyone’s thinking are different, this also shows how the impression of Death’s presence varies. As there are no correct answer to this character, there seems to be a restriction upon acting. On the other side, I felt that I can kept in touch with a variety of looks. Compared to (memorizing) lines, I have to emphasize on displaying my body and facial expressions.

Q: The past works have become topics of discussion, were there a lot of musical proposals proposed?

From what I know, there were rather a lot.

Q: What criteria do you based on for your choice of musicals?

Recently I have watched a lot of musicals and possibly watched all of it. After watching, if there are any works that I had wanted to try or felt that the work is outstanding, however might not be suitable for me. I based on these to consider. However after watching it all, I felt that there are many good characters that I had wanted to act as. No matter in future be it a solo lead or not necessarily be in a huge theatre or even in a small theatre, I would like to give it a try.

Q: You have watched quite a number of musicals, which musical do you think is interesting?

‘Jekyll & Hyde’ (with Cho Seung Woo as lead). I have been hearing about it being very very famous but after I watched it, I finally know the reason behind it.
Though ‘Billy Elliot’ is not a character that I can act in, I find it very amazing. I have watched ‘Zorro’ twice and watched both Gun Hyung hyung’s and Seung Woo hyung’s.

Q: In 2010′s ‘Mozart!’, the appearance of Kim Junsu caused an uproar, we heard that before you decided to be casted, you was troubled for a period of time.

It was a very difficult period back then. It is possibly till now, my most troubled and totally lack of self-confidence period in my life. The emptiness of six months and to stand in front of the public , I felt scared. And I was the first in the three members to step forward with the activity. The uneasiness from being a singer and this stranger-alike work that I have never tried before, plus I ever heard of bad impression of musical towards artistes’ participation. These were my worries. I would walk around for the whole day thinking “Ah, do it!” and the next minute thinking, “Ah, not doing it!”

Q: In the end, you did it.

Because I really love music. Through ‘Mozart!’, I got in touch with musical for the very first time and get to know that there are such music around. It was a brand new feeling, it has a totally different charm from ballad and pop.

And the character of Mozart attracted me. Though his life looks magnificent, as he is a genius, on the contrary he had doubts with life. That look made me felt the same way. At that time, though TVXQ seems to be glamorous and charismatic, I had doubts towards myself as an artiste. Therefore I want to portray the levels of how I felt and the emotions in it.

Watching this song ‘Gold von den Sternen’, I thought about where I should advance in this world. The lyrics moved me too. During the performance as well, though I was not supposed to cry while singing that song, I often cried. Though Young Su noona sang very well, (laughs) she cried every performance too. Even though you didn’t want to go into that kind of mood, you probably end up sinking into that situation naturally.

Q: Moving forward towards the world bravely, it seems nothing regrettable after-all.

If I didn’t do it at that time, there won’t be me performing in musical now. Although it was a very tough decision back then, I felt that this was one of the best decision I’ve done in my life.

Q: Looks like it seems to be a place of difficulties too.

As everything was a first, and I was skeptical of meeting people. Thus the thought of standing in front of so many people and the way to present what was to be presented, it was rather difficult. Additionally, I was worried about the everybody’s evaluation towards artistes; Luckily, I seems to have good rapport with people and this is very great, and I get along well with the actors.

Q: What do you think of singing?

In the beginning, I was troubled with the opera way of singing and I have never sang like this before. Everyone were using the opera way of singing and it seems that I was singing the wrong way. During the practice, I would think that I have practiced in vain and worried a lot.

That time, the director told me, “There are Park Eun Tae, Im Tae Kyung, Park Gun Hyung and Kim Junsu in Mozart. The audience has their own preference of Mozart and not a uniformed and totally alike Mozart(s). Just relax and do it naturally!” These words gave me strength. Therefore though I felt difficult in the beginning, I gradually adapt to it . No matter when I was supposed to cry, I would cry. When I should be happy, I will be truly happy. Though it is not perfect, I relayed what I had wanted to relay, gaining self-confidence.

Q: You mentioned that you are very worried about the public views on artistes. In fact you felt a lot right?

A lot. But I thought, if they were to see my improvements in works, won’t they like me even more? The reason I’m saying this is that even if it happens to your own child, everyone will be thinking, as compared to level 1, level 2 will be better, compared to level 2, level 3 will be even better. Therefore if were to be given love since level 1 and to watch as one gradually grow, (others) should be liking it more and more, right. As there are people who watched me began as a musical actor while slowly accumulating my own abilities, thus I would certainly not disappoint them and will work hard.

Q: Due to the idol status and acting as the lead right from the start, the prejudiced looks weren’t just against Kim Junsu only.

Compared to the singer industry, the market for musical is much smaller. To enter (the musical market) as an artiste and immediately being the lead actor, even to say that “I am a musical actor” will still be prejudiced. I can totally understand such views and therefore I have to maintain the thoughts of working hard and to consider the factors where I have to do well. At least, I have to maintain the thinking of “I did it because I love musicals.” I have to keep in mind that as time passes by and I was able to present what I had wanted to others, it will be left in others’ impressions.

Q: (You) don’t wish to be seen as an idol.

It’s not to throw away the status of an idol singer but my dream is not to be seen as an idol when I am performing in musical.

Q: If were to choose a role model for musical?

It should be Cho Seung Woo hyung. Though currently I like a lot of musical actors and the actors in ‘Elisabeth’ were great as well, Seung Woo hyung was able to act in both musicals and movies, balancing both sides This is what I wish to be.

Q: We heard that JYJ is releasing new album this year.

The worldwide album was released the year before and it was a worldwide release. Currently there is a plan for the second album. Though the actual schedule is not out yet, it is probably going to appear around summer? Currently, I am writing lyrics and composing during my free time.

Q: Is there no plan for a solo album or concert?

Currently there is no plan for such. Of course we wanted to create an event where we can interact with fans but our criterion for choices are different from other singers. In fact the choices are limited but we wish to do our very best with every single thing that we can have.

Q: The restriction in broadcasting due to the contract issues resulted in the loss of chance of standing in front of the public as a singer.

It is indeed difficult to not being able to be on broadcasting programs, it is due to unable to do it, not because we don’t want to do it. Since we can’t do it, why not find other ways to fulfill it? This is a positive thinking. It’s just that as a Korean singer, yet not able to gain the recognition in my own country and not able to participate in activities. It is indeed saddening. (I) am especially apologetic to Korean fans. Though the current situation has turned better a bit, we cannot take a back seat and easily give up. That’s what the members thought so.

Q: As it is difficult, thus the relationship between the members seems to be getting closer?

Now we can understand each other just by looking each other in the eyes, because we only have each other to hold on to. Therefore we became closer and work hard in not hindering each other. The things that we are able to do, we will do it to our very best effort and not becoming each other’s obstacle. I think that having such thoughts will attain the best result.

We also compose for our own album and we even participate in the planning of concerts. Though it is very tough and at times felt exhausted, we felt great happiness while doing it. Because of such sentiments, it made the three of us more united.

No matter when, I felt grateful. It seems that no matter in the future whether we are married or had children or even when we became old grandfathers, we would still sit together in the old folks’ home, playing chess.

Q: What is difference between Xiah Junsu and Kim Junsu?

Nothing. It’s the same. It’s alright to call me Xiah Junsu, though that was my name in TVXQ but Xiah Junsu is still me. I have never dreamt of leaving the idol status.

In the other countries like Beyonce and N’ Sync, aren’t they idols as well? It just seems that only in our country that the views and image towards idols are restricted. I think that no matter be it an idol image or a singer image, it can be created. Though I ever thought of changing an image of an idol I have never though of removing the idol packaging.

Q: You are already in the late twenties, and gained many experiences in the past, was it helpful with your singing?

When singing, you really need to sing it sincerely. Though it is a simple and easily neglected factor, it’s not to be lightly handled. Though I experienced a lot more than others who are of the same age, I am still sentimental in my twenties. When in my thirties, I will gain that feel suitable for that age and when I’m in my forties, I would be able to sing naturally the songs of a sentimental forties.

Q: Your hopes for this year?

I hope for good results in both musical and album. Right now I am not attached to awards and (sales) figures. Though I am still very grateful for my award in musical, but it seems that I have yet to make the musical work received an award. I am a bit sorry for this. If only ‘Elisabeth’ can receive an award for its work, that would be good. (laughs) So, next year is roughly like this. My members and I will sincerely do everything to very best amongst the tough situation and truly enjoy the satisfaction received .

[Trans] 120128 JYJ’s Kim Junsu Says, “What Scares Me Most About Our First South American Concert Is…”

[Trans] 120128 JYJ’s Kim Junsu Says, “What Scares Me Most About Our First South American Concert Is…”

JYJ’s Kim Junsu recently expressed his anticipation for the group’s upcoming concerts in Peru and Chile in March.

Kim Junsu met with reporters and stated, “This is the first time in five years that I’m going to South America since visiting Rio de Janeiro in 2007 for a commercial. At that time, I only stayed for four or five days so I wasn’t able to see much while I was there,” and “My anticipation for our upcoming concerts there is as high as it could possibly be as we’ll work with passionate people in a new environment.“

His increased anticipation is partially due to the fact that he recently experienced the passion of fans from a similar culture through JYJ’s concert in Spain. He was deeply moved by the fact that fans were not merely spectators, but participants who were enjoying themselves.

Kim Junsu let out a long sigh as he said, “If there’s one thing that scares me, it’s the duration of the flight,” and “Last time, I think it took me more than 15 hours to get to Brazil with a stopover in Paris. I was told that it would take even longer this time around.”

The singer ended the interview with the statement, “As these South American concerts are the last leg of JYJ’s world tour, I think we’ll be able to provide the most complete performance we’ve ever given of everything we’ve done till now. We promise to visit our fans in other countries of the Central and South American region, such as Brazil and Mexico, someday.“

Meanwhile, JYJ will be holding solo concerts in Chile and Peru on the 9th and 11th of March respectively and Kim Junsu will begin performing in the musical ‘Elisabeth’ on the 9th of February.

Translation 120130 Kim Junsu’s Exclusive Interview: It’s Really Crazy Too Be Compared With Cho Seung Woo Hyung

[Trans] 120130 Kim Junsu’s Exclusive Interview: It’s Really Crazy To Be Compared With Cho Seung Woo Hyung‏

[Musical Elisabeth’s Lead Kim Junsu]

To compare me, who has only participated in three works, with the best senior…

Due to the pressure received for being an idol and overcame it in debut work, ‘Mozart’.

If were to reborn, I would not be an artiste.

During the later half of 2009, musical ‘Mozart’ production team’s EMK musical company had the last contractual discussion with TVXQ member Xiah Junsu. Xiah Junsu was the best as an idol singer but the experience for musical was naught. The performance fee that the company proposed was different from the request by Xiah Junsu’s representative. The 3000 seatings in Sejong Cultural Centre for the performance was considered to be a large hall. “The 3rd floor won’t be filled up anyway,” this was what the production company thought. The situation ended with Xiah Junsu’s representative’s , “Our Junsu can do it.”

“Our Junsu” made it. At the opening of ‘Mozart’ on January 2010, the crowd filled up the three floors of Sejong Cultural Centre. There were hundreds of Japanese middle-aged ladies who held the air ticket in one hand and the other hand holding onto to a binoculars, flying across the sea to see him. Xiah Junsu gained the title of ‘Running Guarantee’ (Performance fee received based on the tickets’s sales) with 30 million won fee. Last year, the online ticketing system crashed for his second work, ‘Tears of Heaven’ and the tickets were sold out within 5 minutes.

“Our Junsu” Xiah Junsu (Kim Junsu) will be the male lead Tod for ‘Elisabeth’ that is opening next February 9th. When we met on the 27th in a cafe at Seoul’s Jeong-dong, Jong-gu, his seemingly thin frame made others curious about the charm that made his noona fans lost their mind over this 25 year-old young adult. He reached 8 minutes later of scheduled time and lowered his head, saying ‘sorry’. His sincerity about punctuality during the practice sessions was complimented by many.

– Your ticket selling power was compared with ‘Musical Sage’ Cho Seung Woo. How do you feel about it?

“It’s really crazy. Please don’t do this. Isn’t Seung Woo hyung the best in musical industry? Although I am thankful, it’s best not to compare with me who is only just about to start my 3rd musical work. If the comparison was made after I acted in more than ten musicals, probably I wouldn’t be wanting to hide away (like now).”

– When you debuted in musical, nobody expected Xiah Junsu to be such successful. Personally, what is the reason behind your success?

“When I received the musical proposal, I did not sleep well for a week. Because this is my first step after independency (from the previous company SM Entertainment), thus I was very troubled. I did heard of discrimination against idols in musical industry too. However, other than me myself, nobody can protect me. Moreover there’s no existence of protective barrier at all. I am very clear about it.”

– The part where you worked hard due to your status as an idol?

“Being an idol is a double-sided blade. Although you are able to easily attained the lead and received the limelight but there’s the enormous hinder. Due to the performance in musical and overcame the obstacle and learnt about life. ‘In this world, having a dream will need to accept the woes as well’, whenever I am listening to the songs in Mozart, I would cry a lot inside me. As an artiste and to face the public judgement, the pressure is huge, and he (musical/Mozart) speak it out for me.”

– Other than the songs in musical, there were a lot of elements added in, which is your favourite?

“When I first stood on the musical stage, I crazily felt that it’s embarrassing. After I have done it, the joy that it brought me was totally different from a concert. In the two hours on stage, I am not idol Xiah Junsu but as someone else. I like this point a lot.”

In July 2009, after the successful injunction filed by him and two other TVXQ members towards SM Entertainment due to unfair contract length and income etc, they emerged as JYJ. However after that, as singers, JYJ are unable to appear on national broadcasting companies. In the one hour, he has been friendly answering everything, however he paused for a while towards such an inquiry.

“One can’t live (in the past). Have to keep holding on and rough it out. I had the thinking that I have to work even harder. To be able to do what we want, I think this is the happiest to us (JYJ).”

– Many teens dreamt to be the next Xiah Junsu?

“I would not be an artiste in my next life. (He repeated this thrice) Of course as of now, I have no regrets in my life. It is very happy to receive love and concern. But after I passed the audition when I was 15, I have never been in my relaxed mode the minute I went out the door. I have never been to Lotte World either. Sometimes I do felt that I’ve wasted it. It is very tough to be receiving provoking comments from others too. However I have to admit that it’s normal to have losses in life and to understand the surroundings and into thankfulness.”

With regards to new work ‘Elisabeth’, “Working with (Ryu) Jung Han hyung who also acted as Tod, (Song) Chang ui and Kim Sun Young noona and Ock Joo Hyun noona who acted as Elisabeth, is the biggest subject (to learn).” “Recently I am only listening to music from musicals. I would like to try choosing works for small-scaled musicals.”

120124 [EngSub/Fancam] JYJ Lotte Fanmeet Parts 1&2

I am so glad that this has been subbed. As usual, Junsu becomes the fall guy, Jaejoong is the charming spokesman, and Yoochun manages to keep most of the attention off of himself. Noone believes that Yoochun is that retiring, especially after the Hollywood Party. If I can remember correctly, if the beer didn’t appeal to him, the liquor in the hotel did.

[NEWS] 120123 Park Yoohwan on Yoochun and JYJ: ‘I Get Goosebumps Whenever I See JYJ on Stage’

[NEWS] 120123 Park Yoohwan on Yoochun and JYJ: ‘I Get Goosebumps Whenever I See JYJ on Stage’

tvN enews’s new feature ‘Star’s Resúme’ that made a debut on Dec. 16 last year revealed information about the hottest new actor at the moment – Park Yoohwan.

Before his debut, the public knew him as JYJ’s Park Yoochun’s ‘handsome younger brother’. Park Yoochun’s halo effect or Yoohwan’s good acting as ‘Nuna Babo’ Moon Kwon in the recent concluded drama ‘A Thousand Days’ Promise’ caused Yoohwan to be seen as an indisputable actor.

In particular, the revelation of Yoohwan’s handwritten resúme garnered attention. Firstly, it revealed details from his body size to the recognition of his height by interviewers. Without insoles, Yoohwan stood beside someone from the panel with a height of 177cm. Yoohwan’s height was proven to be 177cm.
When asked if he received any preferential treatment since his brother is a singer, he responded frankly by asking, “Shouldn’t I receive more attention since my brother is a top star?” When asked if he received any acting advice, Yoohwan explained that Yoochun monitors his acting on screen meticulously and gives him many advices on social life.

When asked what is Yoochun’s flaw, Yoohwan said, “His only flaw is his deep attachment to me. I want to expose everything but there is really nothing to say.” In addition, he said, “When I went to [JYJ’s] concert and saw my brother, I really got goosebumps. When I saw him on stage, I thought, ‘My brother is such a cool person’. I didn’t realize it usually,” showing his respect for Yoochun.

Besides this, the broadcast revealed various information about Yoohwan such as his charm is his dimple, his favorite girl group member is HyunA and his first love experience in America.

Update: The Korean article said “Yoochun” in the last paragraph but the video clearly shows it’s Yoohwan. We’ve corrected the article just now, sorry for the confusion.

[TRANS] Jaejoong’s Interview from 2012 Hero Festival

[TRANS] Jaejoong’s Interview from 2012 Hero Festival

1. Your future’s dream?

I’m looking for new challenge as director, as actor and as singer.

What is a dream?… For now, there are so many things in front of me that I have to go through.. I don’t have an exact/fixed dream

But… in the long run, I want to make a “good family”.

2. What you care about as a CEO?

 The “taste”, of course.

Fortunately, all said that it was delicious. Thank you.

Yoochun-ie is also co-CEO but he doesn’t come there *Jaejoong cutely complained*

When Yoochun want to drink, he goes to other bar.

It’s inconvenient to come and eat as CEO LOL

I don’t really care if my business goes well or not LOL

If it doesn’t go well.. well… I’ll said “Everybody, please come a lot” with aegyo (T/N: in a cute, charming way)

3. Kim Jaejoong, although you are humble and forthright for an idol, on the other hand, you are somewhat sly/cheesy.

Why so? Is that because you think that fans are not really young anymore?

* With unique and chic accent, he smiled firmly*

You are not young anymore… You know that right?

 *Everybody laughed cheerfully*

4. Thing that made you happy the most in 2011?

It’s that we could have concerts, of course,

That we could meet our fans all over the world

Challenging in acting, challenging in directing,

And that our members received many awards.

There were many things in 2011 that I want to take step again (T/N: I think he means “want to begin again/take challenge again”)many things that I can call a “leap”.

I sincerely thank our fans.

2011 was the best!! *he said with a happy smile*

I must work harder this year too.

[TRANSLATION] 120116 Jaejoong’s Mannish Apartment – Feature In Maison Korea, Nov 2011

[TRANS] Originally 111025 Jaejoong’s Mannish Apartment – Feature In Maison Korea, Nov 2011 by Juggling The Clouds

Through the drama “Protect The Boss”, which finished airing recently, JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong began activities as an actor not only in Japan, but also in Korea. Amidst his busy schedule, he also completed the interior renovation works and moved into his new home. Most of the finishes and structures were left in their original state as each room was styled to give a different atmosphere, and the space has been decorated to give it a manly style.

“I want ‘home’ that is not like (a regular) home. I would like it if it could look like one of those loft houses in New York, even if it is not actually a penthouse and does not have a loft. It would be great if it could have an urban look, while having an fun touch to it…” This is how Kim Jaejoong described the home that he wished for, while making his request to the interior designer. At first, the editors had their reservations when they heard from the designer that Kim Jaejoong’s manager had proposed a photoshoot and interview in (Jaejoong’s) home, since there were uncertainties as to whether Kim Jaejoong, as an idol, was suitable for Maison’s concept. But after hearing of the concept that he wanted for his interior design, the editors were eager to introduce his home. For the month after that, his home underwent interior renovation. Aside from leaving the wall and wood fixtures in the corners of the rooms as they were, and without changing the original structure of the house, the “home dressing” operation was as time consuming and required as much thought as would go into an entire facelift renovation. Wall finishings were changed into marble, vibrant chandeliers were used and classic elements were also added to the design. Working on the basis of the concept that Jaejoong wanted, all the elements that might become obstructive were removed, giving an entirely new look to the house. The key of the interior design was to make it an interesting space with a manly touch. Even with his schedule packed with filming for his drama, Jaejoong had meetings with the designer, reviewed and made changes to the proposed designs in detail, and also chose the furniture and displays together with the designer. It can be seen how interested he is with interior designing, to the extent that he would visit interior display shops whenever he had breaks in his filming schedule to purchase displays. Thus, the result is a home with a totally different style in every space, with a mannish-look and an interesting vibe to it. We spoke to the owner of this house, Jaejoong, about the topic of “home”.

What about this house attracted you and made you move in?
After the World Tour, the JYJ members all made plans to shift homes. This place was recommended to me by Yoochun’s mother after she had seen it. It is convenient in terms of transport, and a lot of sunshine gets in since the window are large. I also liked the structure of the house. I felt that every space could be decorated in the way I wished.

It must not have been easy, having to shift houses and settling the interior design the house because of your filming schedules. Is there a reason why you pushed through with it despite being so busy?
I thought that since I had plans to live in this house on a long-term basis, it would not do if it was not renovated. Also, if I did not set my mind on renovating before I moved in, I would just continue living as it was, so I did not want to delay things any further.

The photographs of your home that you released via Twitter became hot topics in TV programmes and newspapers right? Have you always had an interest in interior designing? Do you often go shopping for interior displays?
Rather than having an interest in interior designing, I think it would be more accurate to say that I have an emotional attachment to my own space, because I am the type which stays at home when I am not working. I did the decorating of my previous home myself. I focused on using black as the main colour to present a simple design with a manly touch. As I am not a professional, rather than deciding on a specific concept or style, I just bought what I liked based on my mood at that time. Aside from having to go overseas a lot, there were many performances and photoshoots, so I did not have much personal time, and did most of my shopping for design materials in Korea. I frequented department stores, the Nonhyeon-dong Furniture Street and even furniture shops in Cheongdam-dong. I sometimes also go to Samcheong-dong, shops along the highway, and underground shopping streets. If I drive past and see a furniture shop that I like, I would stop the car and turn back to have a look.

Is there a reason for not directly doing the designing yourself this time but rather requesting for an interior designer to do it?
If it is a professional, the details would be different for sure, so that is what I was anticipating the most. After hearing that it would be done together with Maison magazine, and after having discussions with the professionals, knowing that the images (of the home I want) that have been flashing over and over in my mind will be realised in a more sophisticated fashion makes me happy.

Although there is already the concept of a loft house in New York, which is different from other houses, do you have more concrete ideas about what you would like your house to be like?
I thought about how it would be nice if it could be a “travel destination” home. Before concerts, when there are no shoots, I like to stay at home. During this time, I compose at home until it is time for recording. As compared to having a home with the same concept throughout, I prefer each space to have its own theme. This way, even at home, it can feel like you are travelling. It’s very interesting. This is what I requested from the designer.

What do you think about the completed home? Are you satisfied?
Yes, I am very satisfied. The scenes in my head, the ones I thought “It would be great if it could be like this”, have all been realised. It also feels more like I am living in “Bangkok”. Hearing my family, the members, friends who come from Japan and the staff from the company say things like “The space in the house has been made used of very well, the furniture and the small displays are very beautiful”, it makes me feel very satisfied. But more than any other time, the time when I feel most satisfied is when I am alone, the bedroom is cozy and classy, the living room is comfortable too, I can have fun in the recreation room, and I can concentrate in the work studio…

1. This is the guest room set aside for family and friends who visit the house. Using design elements such as the mural wallpaper with the illustration of a car and a Fritz Hansen’s Series 9 coat stand, the room is given an entirely new look.
2. Both Honeycomb blinds and curtains have been used in Jaejoong’s house, which has many windows. Milder colours were chosen for the fabric blinds to make the house brighter, while darker colours were chosen for the curtains to make the room feel calmer.
3. The corridor that is visible once one steps through the door. To the left is the bedroom and living room, and connects to the kitchen, and to the right is the work room, guestroom and recreation room.
4. A Neoclassic style mirror displayed, which links the classic elements which were originally present, with the newly added modern elements.

Which is the space that you like the most?
The recreation room. I really put a lot of thought into this room. I wanted it to be a place where my friends could play games when they came, a place where I could entertain myself with comic books, and also a place to collect all the little display items I purchase overseas. After telling the designer the overall colour scheme and sofa style, the designer made a few proposals with the concept of a “playroom”. The one I liked the most among those has become reality now. Also, the furniture displayed is also very unique and interesting. It is also very economical to make use of design pieces which will increase in value as time passes, together with the custom-made pieces of furniture which I like.

Is there something you learnt for the first time during the designing of your home?
In the process of designing my home, I feel that drawing up the plans at the beginning is the most important. Knowing the special characteristics of the house, deciding on a concept, then coming up with concrete design plans is the most important process. Similar to fashion, design requires not overly mixing colour together. Rather than choosing items spontaneously upon seeing something you like, it would give better results to follow the original plans.

There must have been many difficulties, having to coordinate the interior designing while busy with work.
With the filming for the drama coming to the end, work was really busy. Also, there were many cases where the designer would first discuss (the design plans) with the company, before the company passed the discussed proposal on to me. I am not one to do things carelessly, so if I suddenly had inspirations for designs when I got home at night after filming, I would tell the designers as well. During the filming of the drama, once there were breaks, I made it a point to visit interior designing shops. Although there was not enough time, there were many things I wanted to do… That was the most difficult part. Even so, after the renovation of the house was completed, I really felt that it was well done. After all, what meaning is there to a very nicely decorated house if I do not like it.

You mentioned that you mostly stay at home when there is no work, what do you do to pass time when you are resting at home?
When I’m resting I watch movies in the living room, or read a book, or drink a bit of alcohol while sitting beside the table in the balcony, things like that. There are many things to do at home. If I go into the work room to compose, then it won’t be easy for me to come out. If family members of friends come over to visit, I often cook.

1. Using achromatic colours like black and grey as main colours and blue as the supplementary colour, a bedroom that is stylish with a manly touch is presented.
2. During (his) rest days, he enjoys reading many comic books at home. The comic books on the round table were newly purchased by Jaejoong the day before the shoot.
3. Jaejoong’s accessories on the dresser in the bedroom.
4. Dressing room. Large walk-in closet, designed to allow many clothes and accessories to be arranged in here.

Cooking scenes also appeared in “Protect The Boss”, are you really good at cooking? Looking at the kitchen, it seems the pots and pans are all arranged systematically. The cooking utensils seem quite professional.
It’s because I’ve lived in a dormitory since I was young. Cooking for the members and preparing it for them, I would be in a good mood seeing them eat well. Recently I have been going to the supermarket to shop once I have time, and I often cook even when I am alone. I think its because I like cooking itself, that I enjoy this process of learning something new no matter what I make. Although “Cha Mu Won”, whom I play in the drama, has a character rather different from mine, but there is a part (of him) that is similar to me, and that’s cooking.

Aside from cooking, what other hobbies do you have? Looking at your book shelf, you seem to have read many books.
Recently I’ve been totally immersed in riding bicycles. I ride my bicycle everyday. When I ride, my mind clears up, it feels rather great. I’ve also been working hard to read as much as I can. If I visit a book store, I would go to the bestsellers section and see what books are popular, then use that as a basis to choose what books to buy. I also receive a lot of recommendations from my friends.

As expected from a person who makes music, you really have many CDs. Do you listen to a lot of music wherever you go?
Be it in the living room, the balcony, the bedroom, the work room, I listen to music everywhere. I think music is what connects everything else of me together. When I compose, I listen to music for 1 to 2 hours, while I think. This way, the lyrics that I could write or ideas for the tune seem to appear in front of my eyes in an instant.

How do you feel now that the interior renovation is done, and the drama has finished broadcasting?
To put it in one line, I’m happy. This drama is the first production I appeared in in Korea. I was really lucky to have met many good people through a good drama, and to have been able to learn through living the life of Mu Won. There is a line which Mu Won said in the last scene that I cannot forget. It was a line where he proposed by saying,”I will become an upright businessman. That path may be difficult, but are you willing to walk it with me?” I still remember it as it is very similar to my situation in real-life.

1. Jaejoong who says he enjoys cooking, in the midst of making Aglio Olio. Jaejoong is well equipped with the preferred cookware used by those who enjoy cooking.
2. The fully-equipped kitchen.
3. Jaejoong working in the new work studio. He says does recordings and writes songs in this work room.
4. The many gadgets he uses for writing songs. A colourful CD rack and a chair displayed complement the otherwise dull work room.

If you have any plans coming up, please tell us about them. We are also curious about your future plans for the interior design of your home.
The big changes that need to be made now are just some household items, and the fabrics, to make them more suited to the change in seasons. I am planning to buy a piece of furniture or small display item that will not fade in colour even after being used for a long time, but instead increase in worth. When the November issue of Maison is released, I would be preparing for the Spain concert. (We will be) performing in Spain on 29 Oct (2011) and for the first time in Germany in November. When I return to Korea after the Europe tour, I’ll be writing new songs while taking a break, and charity events are also being planned. Seeing us do our part for charity could perhaps be a good influence on people? As an actor, I would like to try different roles. In the process of participating in the production of the drama this time, I’m more immersed in the charms of acting. For now I would like to focus on JYJ’s live performances, and hope to encounter more good productions in future. Ultimately, my dream is for JYJ and our fans to be happy together. Although it may be rather abstract, but that is the biggest dream I have.

Although he had a headache from not getting any sleep the previous night due to his filming schedules, and carried out the photoshoot in his new home while on medication, Jaejoong had no complaints throughout the shoot. If he were to go into the room to rest without overseeing the process, he would not be able to go over the interior display items with the designers. Even after filming has ended, and all the staff are asleep, Jaejoong says he would rather cycle than sleep. One can see his energy from this. “Jaejoong is a client that can listen to the opinions of the designer and communicate well. He has an interest in interior designing, and also has a lot of good ideas. Also, rather than single-mindedly pushing for his own ideas, he would rather trust the designer’s opinions.” Park Chang Min, the chief of the designing team also said that this has been an enjoyable experience for the designers. The editors saw the effort that Jaejoong has spent and the emotions that he has for his new home throughout this month of partaking in the design works of his new home. I have personally seen Jaejoong decline special treatment often offered to artists, should the concept or quality of the designs not meet his expectations. “Looking at my home which I like, I could laugh out by myself, I’m really happy. Thank you everyone for working so hard.” Even though he was tired, this was his reply to the editors who thanked him for the shoot. From his short greeting, for the first time, one could feel that “home” and “interior design” are things that give him a lot of happy energy. Here, as a member of Maison, this thought makes me feel proud.

1. One of the highlights of Jaejoong’s home is the spacious roof terrace. The terrace floor is laid with artificial grass, and an outdoor table and rattan chairs are displayed, giving a natural look. At the same time, an arm chair and candle stands give an interesting touch to this space.

Translation 120106 TVXQ Next Goal is a 5-Dome Tour and a World Tour…

[TRANS] 120106 Tohoshinki, Their Next Goal Is A 5-Dome Tour And A World Tour – Interview With Sanspo
Jan 8, 2012 Written by jugglingtheclouds

It seems like just yesterday when we conducted this interview at a recording office in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo. In between their schedules that are packed back-to-back, we (still) got to witness the duo’s hearty laughter.

The single “Why? (Keep Your Head Down)” released last January attained 1st place (on the Oricon charts), their new album “TONE” has sold more that 450,000 copies, a highest record so far for the unit. From an Excellence Award in the (Japan) Record Awards, to quickly making an appearance on the Kouhaku (Utagassen), it seems like nothing can stop them.

In order to thank the fans, performances at the Tokyo Dome on 14 and 15 April, 2 years since their last, and their first independent performances at the Kyocera Dome Osaka, on 21 and 22 April, have been decided upon. The tour, which will have 24 performances across 11 cities, and is expected to draw a crowd of apporximately 450,000. It will be the largest-scale (tour) the unit has had thus far.

Yunho: I think the Tokyo Dome performance will be a turning point which will allow us to mature. It’s a place with memories, so we’re happy to be able to stand on that stage again. If the opportunity arises we’d like to do a 5-dome tour. (T/N: The 5 major domes in Japan; Tokyo Dome, Kyocera Dome Osaka, Nagoya Dome, Fukuoka Dome and Sapporo Dome)

They also performed in “SM TOWN” in Europe and America, including Paris and New York, and (created) much excitement at the “homegrounds” of entertainment/pop culture.

Changmin: (Seeing fans who) remember our songs made me feel very happy. If the opportunity arises, I’d like to do an overseas tour as well.

Having been 7 years since their debut in Japan, their next goal is?

Yunho: I think it’s important to showcase ourselves not only as Yunho and Changmin of Tohoshinki, but also as actors “Jung Yunho” and “Shim Changmin”. I’d hope for us to show more of our other charms, and to become artists who can bring courage and hope to people. Since this is the year of the dragon, everyone, let’s strive forward and soar like the dragon together with Tohoshinki.

“From Asia to the World.” These humbly spoken words were overflowing with their unwavering confidence.

[Trans] 111226 Person In Focus: Tohoshinki In AERA Magazine Part 2

[Trans] 111226 Person In Focus: Tohoshinki In AERA Magazine

PART ONE

“I want to learn how to cook. But the only thing I’ve ever made for Yunho is ramen.” (Changmin)

This is Changmin, who relieves stress by eating good food. A person who focuses on the basics, Changmin has the qualities of a good chef. Although according to Yunho, Changmin’s ramen seems to be “…”

It’s not just Japan and Korea. In Paris, fans who couldn’t get into the concert started a demonstration, and an extra concert was added. Even till now, they are supported passionately by their fans, with a “Star” presence that hasn’t changed.

They were filled with nervousness during the shoot, but after it was over, Yunho ran up to one of the magazine staff members and said , “You look like Matsujun.”

He said that the staff member looked like Arashi’s Matsumoto Jun. Then, he said to the embarrassed staff member, “Because it’s my hobby to look out for lookalikes,” giving a carefree laugh.

With an overwhelming aura, yet occasionally showing a type of friendliness that makes them feel like they are within you reach. The combination of these two qualities make Tohoshinki, Yunho and Changmin’s true worth. But there are also points where the two men are in total contrast.

Oblivious of the intense performances on stage, Yunho is full of cute actions. Changmin considers everything one by one and replies politely. For example, they were asked how they was able to answer in Japanese without the use of an interpreter in the midst of such a hard schedule, these were their answers.

“I watch anime, such as ‘Detective Conan,’’One Piece,’ and others.”(Yunho)

“I took the time, and studied everything properly starting from grammar.”(Changmin)

Even the places that they want to go in Japan are different. Yunho chose Hokkaido’s Niseko (T/N: One of Japan’s most famous Ski resort towns). As snowboarding is his hobby, he really wants to go there. Despite the persistent questioning, he said “Who with? Hoho..”and was thrown into a situation.

For Changmin, he searched on the internet for delicious shops that he was interested in and wanted to try going there. But regretfully, it is not so easy to just go to these places. Therefore, he would order from a popular curry shop where you can pick the spiciness of the food. He orders the “10 times”(spiciness level). “It’s good when you eat it while going ‘Hot!’” he said. The perfect style is achieved by maintenance, such as not consuming anything but water after 7pm.

Tohoshinki’s “true self” is a blend of different characters. In the opening of 2012, they will be doing nationwide lives at 9 locations in Japan, and we wonder what kind of blend they will show us.

PART TWO

Dressed in simple, casual T-shirt & jeans, boots and backpacks – the two appeared at the set for the photoshoot in very similar casual clothing. The difference was, Yunho held a book in his hand all the time, and did not put it down even when he went to the toilet. “Recently I like reading books, and my personality is such that once I start reading, I will want to read (the book) all the way to the end. As work keeps me busy, in order to soothe myself, I am reading (some) Korean essays.”

Self-control, that is precisely what has allowed Tohoshinki to achieve success in their works so far. Being able to do that, is Tohoshinki’s strength.

Thoughts That Cannot Be Put Into Words

Yunho, who says it is “unexpectedly embarassing”, has something that he always does before he stands on stage, since debut. That is, to shout “I am amazing”.
“I want to become a king of the stage. I want to show everyone the energy I have.”
He heads towards each stage telling himself that.

January 2011. Restarting activities at the Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo, he shouted it all the same. His uneasiness did not disappear, but he said, “I thought (to myself) that given that we had not had activities for about a year, even if only a few fans were left, I had to give it my all”.
However, the number of fans that waited for them was much more than they imagined. ” ‘Thank you’ is all I can say, but there are thoughts that these words cannot express”, said Yunho. Changmin too, held the same thoughts when the duo made their first live appearance. “Since (we were performing again) after a year, I was nervous, as expected.”

Both agreed that what kept them going during the time when their activites were put on hold was the fans. “The messages (that the fans) brought to the management company, of ‘Waiting for (Tohoshinki) to return soon’, allowed us to keep our determination to stand on stage strong. Through these messages, we could feel more tangibly that there were fans who were waiting for our return.” (Changmin)

These feelings of gratitude that could not be put into words are all contained in the album “Tone”, which was released in September. When singing “This is the place to return to” in the song “Weep”, Yunho, who “so far, hasn’t really cried”, says that he was almost brought to tears.

The year since they restarted activities began with a number 1 ranking on the Oricon charts, and (will) end with their appearance in the NHK Kohaku Utagassen for their 3rd time, 2 years since their last appearance. “Kohaku, was a stage we dreamed of since we were new artists. This time, it’s also a conclusion of the wait that everyone has had to go through, so I’m even happier”, said Yunho. Changmin also said, “To be able to stand on a stage as great as Kohaku this soon after we’ve restarted our activites, I truly am thankful.”

From Asia To Europe & America

For the two, who have outstanding talents in singing and dancing, it must not have been easy to achieve new successes while being in a difficult situation. The strong bond that has been forged since their debut was a big strength for them. Perhaps this can be viewed in the same way as the symbolism that “Kizuna (bond)” has due to the Tohoku Great Eathquake.
(T/N: The Japanese people have placed great emphasis on “Kizuna(bond)” as a representation of the bonds between people that will help them tide through tough times.)

Their activities began in Asia, then spread to Europe, and now America.
“I want to allow my singing and performance to mature, as Tohoshinki. I’d also like to grow as a person.” (Yunho)
“In January, the long awaited tour will begin. Everyone, please look forward to it.” (Changmin)

Starting with Yokohama Arena, on 18 Jan 2012, Tohoshinki will soar higher in the upcoming year.

[TRANS] 111216 New Drama “Miss Ripley” Hits Japan! Exclusive Interview With Actor Park Yoochun

[TRANS] 111216 New Drama “Miss Ripley” Hits Japan! Exclusive Interview With Actor Park Yoochun

The drama DVD will be released in Japan in February 2012. Park Yoochun, who has been receiving a great amount of praise as an actor, shared his memories about his shooting process with us at The Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul,  the hotel where the outdoor shoots for “Miss Ripley” was done.

Acting while thinking about “The situation of a first love”

“The Song Yoohyun which I portray is innocent and doesn’t know anything about love, a person who mulls over his problems and doesn’t talk about it.” This is what Yoochun says about his role in “Miss Ripley.” As he explained, Yoohyun was born to a Japanese mother and Korean father, and his mother passed away when he was 9 years old. Following that, he studied at the University of Tokyo, and has the Japanese name Yutaka, as well as Korean name Yoohyun. His father remarried, and hoped that his son would take over the business. If this was a typical drama, the main character would be rebel against his father and refuse to take over the business. However, Song Yoohyun is a straightforward man who grew up in a proper manner, and it was probably because of this that he bumps into the beautiful Jang Miri at a student hostel in Seoul, and falls in love with her at first sight. His expression at that moment in time is probably a true expression of Yoohyun’s innocence, leaving a deep impression.

“The director said that to Song Yoohyun, Jang Miri is his first love, so he wanted me to express the emotion of being in love for the first time. However, when I was acting I was not thinking about my first love, instead immersing myself in the character of Yoohyun then expressing the emotion.” Compared to the innocent Song Yoohyun, female lead Jang Miri, despite living in a student hostel herself, felt that “men who are living in a student hostel must be poor,” so prior to knowing that he is a chaebol, always treated Yoohyun in a cold manner. To escape her bitter past, she lies that she is a graduate of the University of Tokyo, and starts working in a hotel. She dates both Kim Seung Woo’s character Jang Myung Hoon, and Song Yoohyun at the same time. Although she is the female lead, her role has a strong image of an “evil woman.”

“If it were me, I definitely wouldn’t be cheated by a person like Miri. As long as there is something slightly strange about his/her actions or words, I will be able to tell that it is a lie. Ah no, there are times which I can’t tell as well (laughs). If you were to ask if I was someone who would be easily cheated or not, do I look like the type who will be easily fooled? I feel that I haven’t really been cheated before, and can detect a lie at a glance. When chatting with staff, I can tell immediately if they are lying. If it’s being fooled by a girlfriend? Hmm… then maybe I won’t be able to tell (laughs). I think my mom would say “You’re still not there yet.”

Saying with an innocent face that he cannot be fooled, then saying that he might be fooled, Park Yoochun’s air of purity seems to fit well with the character of Song Yoohyun.

In the drama, Song Yoohyun falls in love with Jang Miri and expresses this directly. But considering it carefully, Song Yoohyun does not understand how Miri grew up, and her character. Furthermore, Miri showed no interest to him at first, treating him in a cold manner, pushing him away, and despite being treated this way, he fearlessly expresses his feelings for her. Even though Miri’s friend, Moon Hui Joo (played by Kang Hye Jung) expresses her interest in Yoohyun, he doesn’t waver at all.

“I think that anyone could fall in love at first sight. But whether that will lead to love, I don’t know. Personally, I hope that love can last for a long time, and develop slowly. Of course, if I meet someone I like, I will work hard to show her my charm. Song Yoohyun is a optimistic person, and we are similar in that aspect. But in terms of having a special method of “if you do this, you can definitely get the girl,” I don’t have that (laughs).

“To touch a person’s heart is really difficult. If you ask me what you should do to move someone, I don’t have an answer to that too.”

In that case, have you considered how you would need to touch someone as an actor?

“That is not something that I have really thought about. But that is to say, isn’t the fact that I haven’t really thought about it, the reason that touches the hearts of the viewers?  To do things with the aim of touching other people’s hearts, I think that as an actor, things are a little different.  The character of Song Yoohyun is like that as well, a person without such motives. When I was reading the script, what first attracted me to the role of Song Yoohyun was his completely straightforward personality. I am like that myself, and after my debut I was faced with all kinds of situations and I would always give it my all. Therefore, I felt that Yoohyun and I are very similar, and was attracted to him. Compared to the plot of the drama, it is more important to accept the role of Yoohyun.

It is not simple, obvious changes, but the expression of subtle changes that is very difficult.

Initially believing in Miri completely without any suspicion, Song Yoohyun finds out the truth about Miri in the second half of the drama, and causes Yoohyun’s world to shake. The suspense of this part of the show is thrilling. “Although Song Yoohyun’s character and mindset hasn’t changed, but a part of him has become cold. If Yoohyun had, after finding out about Miri’s lies, changed his feelings and attitudes completes, it would have been easier to express. However, to show no change in his basic emotions, and showing subtle differences instead is very difficult.”

Park Yoochun manages to express these complex yet subtle emotions well through his acting. In terms of acting, what are the points that he looks out for?

“Instead of just the physical appearance, and things that can be seen with your eyes, I focused on how to express the lines in my own way. For me, I am one of those “holds on to the script till the last minute, studying the script” types, but for this role, I placed more focus on how to blend Song Yoohyun’s character into my own.” During the filming period, there would also be times in his daily life where he would accidentally show glimpses of Song Yoohyun instead. “Song Yoohyun is always well-dressed, elegant and well-mannered.  So during the shooting, I naturally maintained good poise, and even the way I held my glass while drinking champagne was better than usual (laughs.) In ways like these, Song Yoohyun’s actions became part of my daily life.

Shooting at The Banyan Tree was difficult, but created many memories

Another point to look out for in this drama is Yoohyun’s crying scene.

“When reading the script, there were scenes where Yoohyun would cry. If it were me, I would not cry (at these scenes.) On the other hand, there were situations where Yoohyun would not cry, but I would feel like crying at. This made the actual shooting difficult. When I was reading the script, I felt like crying, yet I had to express a different emotion during the actual shoot. This is why acting is interesting, isn’t it.”

Even though the plot of the drama progresses in a thrilling way, there were many meaningful episodes that occurred during filming.

“Song Yoohyun works in a hotel, so we spent a lot of time in this hotel where we are at now, The Banyan Tree.  In the corridors of this hotel, we shot the scene where (Yoohyun) first met Kang Hye Jung’s character Moon Hui Joo, and that was a really difficult scene. This was the scene where Moon Hui Joo, who works in housekeeping spills cleaning detergent on Yoohyun. However, for this portion, the “detergent-spilling” scene was shot separately, and it wasn’t Kang Hye Jung, but the director of photography that poured the detergent on me. The director of photography had said with enthusiasm “This is what I’m good at,” (laughs) But the detergent got into my eyes, and it hurt a lot. Furthermore, the corridor we filmed at was really narrow and crowded with staff and actors, over 30 people, so it was really warm and unbearable, and just thinking about it is difficult.

My image in the first and last episodes are different, I hope that you can feel my progress.

For you, this main role in a drama is your second project after “SungKyunKwan Scandal.” Compared to the past, how do you think your mentality has changed?

As “SungKyunKwan Scandal” was my first time shooting a drama, I think the viewers were more accepting, or should I say that due to it being my first time acting so they were more kind and protective of me. However, with my second project, this is different. Although they are fans, the number of people who have a more critical eye on me has increased as well. This means that I feel more pressure. But because I really did work very hard on this drama, so if I were to be praised, I would be very happy.

Speaking truthfully, what is the charm of “Miss Ripley?”

I cut my hair at around episode 11. Actually, I was supposed to cut my hair once I started working at the hotel, but the timing wasn’t right. Actually, I think that I was a little fat when I had cut my hair short previously, and that was probably why my short hair was a failure. This is why I wanted to challenge (short hair) again, wanting to try it out in the drama. I think it suits me better now, what do you think? (Laughs) Seriously speaking, as this is my second project, I was acting with a portion of my mind thinking that my acting skills were still very weak. But acting with this constant need to work harder in mind, I’m thinking, “Comparing the first episode to the last, wasn’t I very different?” I want to show my progress to everyone, and this is what I wish to bring to my fans.

Translation 111210 Interview With TVXQ: “In Private, We Are Much Like Normal People

[TRANS] 111210 Interview With TVXQ : “In Private, We Are Very Much Like Normal People”

After going through contractual issues and switching from a 5-man group to a 2 man group, the TVXQ appeared in Shanghai for their fan meeting  for the first time with their new grouping. On the afternoon of 9 December, Yunho and Changmin did an interview with ent.163.com. When talking about the recording of their Japanese album, Changmin laughed and said that there was a portion of the recording that required whistling, which he insisted on Yunho doing despite Yunho not being able to do it very well. When talking about their private lives which fans are very concerned about, Yunho and Changmin expressed, “In private, when we don’t have too many activities, we listen to music, watch movies and meet up with friends, very much like a normal person. “

Q: What is the difference between performing in Europe/America and Asia?

TVXQ: It’s the same in both Asia as well as Europe/America, no matter where we are, we can feel the passion and love from the fans, which is surprising to us.

Q: When recording the Japanese album “TONE,” were there any interesting episodes?

TVXQ: In our new album, there is a song called “Easy Mind,” and this song includes a portion where Yunho is whistling. Actually, he isn’t very good at whistling, but we insisted on him doing the whistling. This is one of the more meaningful moments that we remember.

Q: The style of this new album is more mature, and has more variety?

TVXQ: As this is a new album that we released after a long time, so there were many people that were very concerned about the album. We are thankful for everybody’s care and concern, and thank them for their support.

Q: Changmin, will you consider composing songs (T/N : vs writing lyrics) in the future?

TVXQ (Changmin) : So far, I haven’t really thought about writing songs, and maybe I just don’t have the talent for composing, so I feel more inclined towards developing in the area of lyric-writing.

Q: Yunho, do you have plans to compose or write lyrics?

TVXQ (Yunho) : Previously, during TVXQ concerts pr SMTown concerts, I’ve performed songs that I composed and wrote myself, so if there is chance and a good song, I hope that I will be able to include it in an album.

Q: What do the Chinese fans mean to you?

TVXQ: Although there isn’t much of a difference between fans in various countries, but they feel something special towards the Chinese fans, and the Chinese fans are always the first to ask after us whenever something happens, so we hope that in the future, fans can continue to show us their love and support.

Q: How are you like in private?

TVXQ: When we don’t have much to do, we listen to music, watch movies, and meet up with friends, very much like a normal person.

[News] TVXQ Still Keeping Their Feet On The Ground

[News] TVXQ Still Keeping Their Feet On The Ground

The two members shared their first impressions of Singapore, their love for chilli crabs and what they miss doing the most.

They may be one of the biggest stars in K-pop, but what greeted us at the group interview in the function room at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, were two affable and sincere men.

Decked in matching blue military-styled uniforms, TVXQ took questions from the media in a short 20-minute group interview before their fan party.

The duo first talked about their first impressions of our country and told us what they had previously heard of us.

“It’s our first time to Singapore and we had the chance to view the night scenery yesterday. It was really beautiful. The impression is not fully formed because we’ve not performed and met our fans yet. We’ll have a better impression of Singapore and the fans after tonight,” leader Yunho replied.

He added that Singaporean fans had been very welcoming and gave them lots of support.

It’s not difficult to see that the chilli crabs in Singapore had left TVXQ a lasting impression (the duo mentioned it again during the fan party).

When asked if they had the chance to taste any local delicacy, Changmin said, “We’ve tried pepper crabs and chilli crabs last night. We heard that it’s one of the most famous local delicacies here. It was really, really tasty. We know that Singapore is well-known for the seafood, since it’s surrounded by the sea.”

Being one of the top Hallyu stars definitely has its perks, but it has its downsides — the loss of privacy and being “ordinary”, as well as stress.

Changmin shared that the things he missed were travelling with his friends, and hanging out with them and having drinks together. The 23-year-old also reminded that he is already of age to have alcoholic beverages.

Yunho echoed the former’s sentiments, answering a short “same” first in Korean, then in English.

When questioned how they relieve stress, Changmin first answered that he would drink and have tasty food, especially spicy dishes.

On the other hand, Yunho demonstrated his athletic side, saying that he would go for snowballing during winter and in the other seasons, bowling.

Later, the enthusiasm TVXQ showed was evident, when the duo talked about their fans.

While no particular fan ever caught their attention, Yunho spoke on a special and memorable moment they had.

“When we’re performing, our fans would create ‘TVXQ’ or the members’ names with red light sticks. That’s very memorable for us,” he said.

Considering they are already one of the top stars in the Korean music industry, the media wondered what it would be like for them 10 years down the road.

“We’ll probably still be in this industry, doing what we’re doing now. We wish that we could put up such performances by then, but stamina wise, I’m not very sure if we still have the strength,” Changmin replied.

Yunho also pictured themselves doing joint performances with junior singers in the industry, and would probably be involved in individual careers such as acting in various dramas.

However, the pair has no acting projects at the moment.

It was a short interview, but TVXQ displayed their professionalism, candor and sincerity the entire time. The bright-eyed pair spoke in soft and gentle tones, only to raise their voices occasionally to show enthusiasm.

TVXQ may have debuted eight years ago, but the duo felt down-to-earth and that fame did not seem like it had gone over their heads.
