[TRANS] 120130 Tohoshinki’s Yokohama Arena Live – Huge Popularity, Even “Restricted View Seats” At 8,500 Yen Sold Out Immediately

“Ever since restarting their activities in January last year, we have always wanted to do their own solo live tour. We wanted to show our thankful feelings to those who gave us their support even when we couldn’t do activities as Tohoshinki, so we worked really hard in preparation for this tour.”

On 18-19 January, Tohoshinki started their largest tour in Tohoshinki history, the “Tohoshinki Live Tour  2012 ~TONE~”. With 24 performances at 11 location, it is expected to attract a total audience of 450,000 people.

It has been 3 years since their last solo tour. For Yunho (25) and Changmin (23) , this is the first time they are doing a tour as two. And Yunho spoke about these thoughts during the opening MC.

The location was covered in red penlights, from the seats in the stands that extended to the ceiling.

“Tickets this time were hard to obtain, even for fanclub members. Although a ballot was held after submitting their entries, they mostly couldn’t get tickets (weak laugh). Eventually, just before the concerts, not only “standing seats” but also “restricted view” and “restricted experience” seats were sold.”

Often unheard of, avex explains what these “restricted view seats” (8,500 yen) and “restricted experience seats” (8,000 yen) are, on their website, explicitly stating that they are “Seats where members cannot be seen during the performance and videos, and ‘restricted experience seats’ are seats at the ends of the stage, where there is a high chance that you cannot see videos as well as the main stage performances.”

However, this was still great news for fans who “want to see the movements of the two people,” and those seats were completely sold out as well.

Ms A, (45 years old, housewife) who was actually sitting at the restricted view seat, testified that, “Although there were stage equipment placed nearly, but actually compared to those at the back of the arena, and those at the 2nd and 3rd levels of the stands, I think we probably had a better view. I don’t really know why such good seats were considered as restricted view seats.”
Also, Ms B (48 years old, office worker) who sat at the “restricted experience seats” said, “For the performance at the hanamichi (t/n: the part of the stage that extends into the audiences’ seats) and the main stage, I could only see the backs of Yunho and Changmin. But as the two members walked in and out from the ends of the stage very often, the view then was so clear that we could even see the sweat on their faces. “

[TRANS] 120122 “Will This Become Avex’s ‘Saviour’”? Tohoshinki Reunification Project Emerges

Written by TheRarasaurus

T/N: PLEASE READ BEFORE READING THE ARTICLE
This article is from a Japanese site/magazine called Nikkan Cyzo, which is rather commonly considered a tabloid. This article does NOT represent the opinions and/or beliefs of the translator and of the site, and was translated for informative purposes (and the fact that a slew of Korean articles are coming out due to information from this one)

I must once again reiterate that
(1) This is from a tabloid, please take what they write/accusations they state with a suitable pinch of salt, and
(2) we are translating to inform, and are in no way trying to back up the authenticity of the information which is written below. Please make such judgements by yourself 🙂

———————————————————————————————–

In the days of the New Year, Avex, which has been shaken by Hamasaki Ayumi’s announcement of her divorce, is said to have finally begun talks of the Tohoshinki Reunification project.

“Avex released a DVD-BOX on New Year’s day which records all of Hamasaki Ayumi’s PVs and special videos since her debut. Even with the outstanding topic of ‘divorce’ being released at this stage, the success of Avex and Hamasaki Ayumi still looks hopeful“ (Music Industry Personnel)

Furthermore, another of Avex’s aces alongside Hamasaki Ayumi, EXILE, released a PV collection set at the same time as their album, but it seems that they can no longer allow sales to remain in its current state.

“On top of the long-running poor situation of the music industry, this is a time where selling just songs is not enough anymore. To this, Avex has been releasing first press editions and giving away premiums, and selling PVs on a large scale, as a change in strategy. However, despite it being good that Hamasaki Ayumi is from their company’s management, other “cash cows” artists such as Amuro Namie and Exile are under other management agencies, so they do not bring in that much money.” (as above)

Speaking of other management agencies, Avex and Korea’s SM Entertainment-managed artist has been holding large scale promotions in Japan, and are developed as artists under Avex’s own management. However, 3 of the members have broken away from the original 5 due to issues surrounding their contract with SM Entertainment, and are holding activities as JYJ, and it is said that there are talks of a project to re-unify the 5 members.

“Although currently Tohoshinki is made out of the 2 members Yunho and Changmin, the most popular member in Japan is JYJ’s Jaejoong. Initially, Avex had a contract with JYJ’s management, but due to suspicions of a person with a “dark past” in the company, the contract was disrupted. Because of this, not only has JYJ not been able to hold activities in Japan, last year there was a court dispute surrounding the charity event that they held for the Tohoku Earthquake disaster recovery. Furthermore, more trouble followed with the occurrence of the fake disaster relief charity party at the end of last year. Despite their limitations in being unable to appear in programs within Korea due to the pressures from SM Entertainment, their draw is massive. Therefore, before the troubles surrounding JYJ have been resolved, a project to get the 5 members reunited in a live performance at Tokyo Dome has emerged. If this is true, this will be the “saviour” for Avex, which has nothing left to “sell.” However, with rumours of JYJ’s “dark ties” still left unresolved, it seems that it will be hard for this project to move forward.” (Weekly Magazine Reporter)

Also, it is said that Hamasaki Ayumi is part of the team helping in this project.

“Hamasaki has close ties with JYJ from before, and has even recorded a collaborative track with (JYJ) member Junsu’s twin brother, Junho. In last year’s a-nation, Avex’s live event, due to the powerful influence of Tohoshinki’s two members “not wanting to stand on the same stage as Junho,” (Junho and Hamasaki Ayumi) were not able to sing their collaboration song and to oppose this, Hamasaki rejected the role of closing the show. She also spoke of her dissatisfaction with Avex in this matter, on twitter. Even with all the disorder, Hamasaki stands between the two sides, and is apparently negotiating for a compromise between the two sides for a reunification.” (as above)

There are many fans that hope for a reunion of TVXQ, but even with this project which is extremely difficult to realize emerging, it seems that the current situation of Avex is tough.

YH: I have something I would like to tell you.
It’s been a year since we restarted our activity last January.
I have way wanted to hold our solo live tour.
At last we can have the first day of it now. Thank you very much.
We have so different speechless thoughts and emotions.
During the time we was not able to have activities as THSK,
you have waited and supported us.
In order to convey our gratitude to you,
we have prepared much for this tour very hard.
CM: Exactly. We always want to convey you our gratitude through our song and performance.
By the way, the new album also has some songs to carry such emotions.
For example, Shiawaseiro no Hana, which we sang just now.
And…
YH: Another one, Deep!
CM: (unclear)
Well, what do you think, you all?
In fact, it has passed about first half of today’s live.
Have our gratitude got conveyed to you? Because the live got passed
around half of it, around half of our gratitude has got to you? (unclear)
Sometimes, I can see some people who shows “I got your thought! (patting his chest)”.
Then it is ok if those people leave us.
Well, then, we would like to convey all our gratitude to you Next…(unclear)
YH:Then now a little *sat down* (unclear) We are doing at ease, right?
CM: You may do a little too easily.
YH: Coming to this age, I get tired soon.
CM: You are nervy to say, “This age.”
The men like Sam-san, who is directing this tour, can say ”coming to this age”.
YH: But really, fatigue is coming little by little. Seriously it is awful here and there.
C’mon. CM, you should sit down.
It doesn’t matter if you settle down.

Something (unclear)CM’s adlibbing (unclear)
CM(unclear)You have done as I taught.
YH: uhm, what’s the most impressing since we started our activity by two of us?
CM: … yeah…it is suddenly. We went really lots of countries actually.
Well, We were really busy. It can be said that was so hard physically. It was tough. We had terribly have flights.
Even so, we enjoyed ourselves much.
YH: Where did we go? France, Paris and Japan. But Japan doesn’t feel abroad.
CM: You say that again!
YH: I got better at this *gesture like talkative*
CM: That one in America was…
YH: HI, EVERYONE!
CM: *…* It is Japan here, so speak in Japanese. Don’t say anything unnecessary.
YH: Yes, sir. I’m sorry.
CM: Er, and LA in America, Las Vegas! (unclear) various show (unclear)
We went to New York for the first time last year .
And we went to Spain for photo session. Passionate Spain, isn’t it?
Spain is famous for great food, soccer and clubs, I heard.
YH: You went to the club?
CM: I hoped, but the manager stopped me. Unfortunately I didn’t.
Whatever I don’t want to have such a talk.
YH: Yes.
CM: What have we been talking about?
YH: We have said 3 countries!
CM: Yes! Ok. Singapore, aaand *pointing a fan* Yes, Beijing and Shanghai in China.
YH: Nihao!
CM…
YH: Everyone said (unclear), See?
CM: Probably they thought it might be greeting. They know.
YH: This is about all I know, too.
CM: Taiwan! Yes, I know.
fan: screaming. (T/N sorry I don’t know why.)
CM:Huh!? Huh!?
Because you all say together at once, I cannot understand it at all.
Someone alone. Tell me.
fan: Kyaaaaa.
CM: Then, let’s not. Now I cannot remember, though, anyway, we went around lots of countries. Watching around those countries, (end)

[Trans] 120119 Ex-Toho Dancer GEN-san’s Blog Updates

[Trans] 120119 Ex-Toho Dancer GEN-san’s Blog Updates

Tohoshinki LIVE TOUR 2012 ~TONE~

Today I went to the first day of Tohoshinki’s concert tour
together with KO & YU-KI.
Of course I won’t tell the details.
Oh, I really want to talk about it~!!

I first didn’t know
what kind of feeling I would have,
but the results were…

It was really fun!!
Who are the dancers?
Who are the band members?
Ha~san, who is running backstage!
The stage director ~-san!
The makeup artist ~san!
The stylist ~san!
The security guards!
We were all having such fun,
time passed by in a blink of an eye.

It was the first time that I objectively watched the stage.
It was really dazzling.
And I missed the stage a little bit…

It was because
I was together on stage with them all the time from the ZEPP stage
(T/N: 1st LIVE TOUR 2006 -Heart, Mind and Soul-).

As a professional dancer,
I was really trained by (working together with) their stages
Not only from the technical point of view, but the mental point,
how to approach to work
and also the atttidute.
I think that the current myself is here
because I had the experience of working together in their stages.
It was a while since I last met Yunho and Changmin,
and both members were much stronger and powerful than before.
But their smiles when they realized us
haven’t changed a bit.

Even though we do not exchange any words,
when we see their performance,
we can understand a lot of things.

The two were the best.
The encounter with wonderful artists
are the treasure for us dancers.
The new dancers all have wonderful talents,
and they should really improve more in the future.

I am so thankful that I was able to go and see them!!
Thank you very much!!

To the dancers, thank you for the letter and the stick light!!
The end flew away, since I was swinging it so much!!
I am praying so that there will be no serious injuries, and the TOUR will be a great success!!

120109 [News} The Cute Quotient

[News] The Cute Quotient

By Primastuti Handayani
The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network
Saturday, Jan 07, 2012

South Korea’s best-known export today is not pickled cabbage.

Instead, it comes in a sleek, pretty package and suits the tastes of people across Asia – especially young women – and increasingly the world.

Move over, kimchi. Come on down, K-pop male idols.

In the past few years, Indonesian teenage girls, like their peers across Asia and increasingly in Europe, have become devoted fans of Hallyu (Korean wave) entertainers such as Choi Si-won of Super Junior, Kim Jaejoong of JYJ (formerly a member of DBSK/TVXQ), SS501′s Kim Hyun-joong and many more.

Back in 2009, the era of Bae Yong-joon with his famous Winter Sonata TV series gave way to protégé Hyun-joong in the role of Yoon Ji-hoo in Boys Before Flowers.

Jaejoong’s Protect the Boss and Si-won’s Poseidon, produced in 2011, have captured the hearts of fans who watch the series however they can – cable TV, video streaming, pirated DVDs or on YouTube.

Asian countries, especially Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan, have turned out plenty of attractive young entertainers in the past, but these Korean men – stylish, well groomed and well built – fulfill a fantasy for young women of the very handsome boy next door.

According to psychologist Dewi Dewo, moviegoers want to see men who are good-looking but not intimidating.

“Why do sweet-looking boys sell? Because the trend today is for them. Even young stars from the West are cute guys,” she says.

Tati Winarsih, the author of Seoulvivor, a book on K-pop hot spots in Seoul released late November, believes that it’s only natural for everybody to want to see “beautiful creatures”.

“These girls really love those pretty boys because despite their beautiful look, they are still able to show their macho side, their manly character. They aren’t effeminate despite their beauty,” she says, adding that reality shows have helped the stars to reveal their true selves to their fans.

The dramas also sell Korea.

[omitted]

The comprehensive training system, according to SM Entertainment CEO Kim Young-min, is the secret behind the success of K-pop.

SM is currently the biggest entertainment agency in South Korea, with its stable of stars including DBSK, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, SHINee and f(x).

“If a group concept is chosen, then the members start training their foreign languages, dancing and singing,” he was quoted as saying by Soompi.com. “I think the most important aspect of training is training a celebrity’s personality.”

“Creating” a superstar is not a cheap enterprise.

SM founder, Lee So-man, revealed how his agency spent 4 billion won (S$5.1 million) grooming the original five members of DBSK, according to Chosun.

The amount doubled as the group – named the best second-generation K-pop band from their 2004 debut until they splintered into DBSK and JYJ in 2009 following a legal dispute – started producing their album and doing promotions.

The enormous investment pays off: The artists, once successful and popular, are veritable money machines.

According to one estimate, the Hallyu may have generated as much as US$4 billion in sales in 2011, a 14 per cent increase from the previous year. The number is likely to grow given the high demand for more concerts and fan meetings overseas.
