[News] 110722 TVXQ tops Japan’s Oricon chart

TVXQ (aka Dongbangsingi or Tohoshinki), a two-member Korean boy band popular across Asia, topped Japan’s Oricon Daily chart on Thursday with its new single “Super Star.”

TVXQ (Yonhap News)

More than 75,000 copies of the new album were sold on the first day it hit the shelves in Japan on Wednesday and nearly 50,000 copies were sold the next day, putting the South Korean boyband on the top of Japan’s most influential music chart.

The Oricon Charts are based solely on the number of albums sold during the week and is dubbed the Japanese Billboard chart.

TVXQ is expected to perform on TV music programs in Japan this weekend.

The dancing-duo will appear on Asai TV’s “Music Station” and “Happy Music” produced and broadcast by Nippon Television.

The band will also perform at NHK’s “Music Japan” and introduce their new songs.

The two continue to meet their fans in Japan by performing at “a-nation,” a summer music festival, for the first time in two years.

DRAMA REVIEWS & RECAPS

Emiieee_sshi’s blog on Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese drama series Love???…pfffttt

Lately I’m feeling a little ummmmzzz…lost? hahaha maybe that’s not the best word to describe what I’m feeling right now after the mid year exams. I should be feeling ecstastically fantastic right? Well, it just means that I’m spending most of my day sleeping and lazing around the house. I’ve been trying to avoid going out at all costs since the weather depresses me. During the day, I have my curtains drawn together so that I wouldn’t need to see the windy, grey and rainy day. Mum has become increasingly worried about my state these few days.

It’s funny how asian parents have this thing about no dating in highschool. But what I find overwhelmingly amusing is that once I graduated from highschool…they suddenly become surprised about my lack of dating experience, as if an alien stepped into the house. Hellooo? Who were the ones who kept on hammering the significance of highschool chastity? It felt as if I was expected to switch between two modes instantly within the transfer period between highschool and Uni. I would probably have been even better if I came home from Uni after the first day and announced that I was going to get married.

Yes…I understand that I don’t take enough care of my skin. I drink coffee with “too much sugar”. I wear my PJs almost everywhere I go with the exception of outdoors. I also talk non-stop with unlady like gestures. I feel terribly unladylike. It has somewhat occured to my folks that I scare off guys or guys scare off me. Regardless, my brain is becoming numb to their rant. Paranoia has got hold of my mum…she’s considering all the different possibilities and reasons as to why I’m not interested in men. One point that I need to make straight is that I’m not a lesbian and my mind is not poisoned by idealistic K pop males. I admit that I drool over DBSK but that doesn’t mean that I’ve been manipulated into thinking I would only date someone who looks like a K pop star.

Well… maybe if she introduced me to either Jaejoong, Yunho, Junsu, Changmin or Yoochun….. *mind distracted* (That is if, there is the possibility of that occuring. According to my approximation the possibility of that happening would be roughly around 0.0000000000000000000000 infinite 1.) No wait. I wouldn’t just accept…I would make sure that my arms were to be tightly wrapped around the guy’s leg and then I would shout “till death do we part”. Jks. Of course I wouldn’t cling onto a man’s legs but if it happened to be either one of the DBSK guys, I don’t think I’d have a choice because I will be faced the the death penalty…the wrath of fan girls.

From a woman’s perspective (yup I’m still biologically considered female) I can say that many Cassies have probably fantasised about DBSK boys. *cough* Anyways coming back to my point…sorry where was I? Oh right, yes, fantasising is a very normal thing that human beings experience regardless of gender. But we all know that the world we create and the world we live in are two very different ones and they rarely cross. Therefore, it is important for us to be able to “accept” the fact that maybe one day, DBSK will be date other girls, get married and have kids.

I’m not saying that it is ignorant, naive and foolish for fan girls to keep that loving hope alive and I’m sure most girls know deep down that one day we will have to let go no matter how disappointed we are. The problem is, when that day arrives, it really comes down to how much pain fan girls will feel. Of course, the amount of disappoint and misery will differ between different people. One person may feel little or no difference while someone else’s life can be turned upside down. Some fan girls may even gather together to plot the death of that girl (God forbid that from happening.)

Personally, I don’t think any celebrities or female artists would risk dating one of the boys because that would mean endless bashing, decline of popularity and life threatening consequences. I still find it hard to believe that Jaejoong’s ex-girlfriend who he dated before he became popular dumped him because he wasn’t popular O_o I bet she’s regretting it now….

Many Cassies address the boys as “My…” or “Our….” because this creates a sense of intimacy. But I think that regardless of what the fans/Jaejoong want, it would probably be more difficult for fans to accept DBSK dating a fan rather than an artist or a celebrity. When a DBSK member starts to get into a serious relationship with a girl, that member’s popularity will most likely drop.

In SM, I highly doubt that Yunho or Changmin will be allowed to date seriously because it will affect the company’s profit, business and image. The company sees, hears, breathe, feels, tastes money and will not consider HoMin’s happiness as their top piority. HoMin are only able to give their hearts and love to music. It’s an unfair idea that they wouldn’t be able to love like a normal person or experience love like any other person, yet there is only a choice between music and love. Those two choices cannot co-exist. As long as they remain under SM or if they continue to work with music, there is a high possibility that they will remain single. Even after they retire, I have this feeling that fan girls will remain in the chase.

JYJ have more freedom to date and I often wonder why they don’t. This is probably due to the same reason: the need to remain in the hearts of fan girls. If they start to date, it would break thousands of hearts across the world and I’m positive that is not something JYJ would want to see. Imagine one of the boys fell in love with a girl but because Cassies, he had to force himself to break off the possibility of getting together with someone they loved..it’s heartbreaking.

If we only love them because they are single then is that really considered as love or support? Being turned-off by the fact that they might be with another girl is called possessiveness. Sometimes love can lead to the need to be possessive but essentially, this possessiveness or upset feeling will only backfire. If you really love them, then shouldn’t you wish that they have a content, satisfied and happy private life? It’s easier said than done.

I start to realise that if they don’t have a happy life at home, it can impact on their career. I love their music and I hope that they continue to make great and awesome music in the future. They are DBSK because of their music and a true fan is someone who loves and supports their music as well.

The thing with fanbase is that fan girls like to imagine and fantasise. No one says that this is wrong. So when we start to imagine a girl next to one of the DBSK member, there is pretty much nothing left to fantasise about. It’s logical that these boys chose to sacrifice love for passion and fame but that doesn’t mean that it is expected of them to remain in a loveless life for their remaining time on earth. I often feel sorry for Changmin because out of the 5, he joined the entertainment industry at the youngest age. He probably missed out on majority of his childhood. I really wish he could relive a part of his childhood or growing up. He never really had a chance to go on a normal date with a normal girl on a normal day because most of his life is not a very normal life. (I’m guessing that none of the other 4 guys had much opportunity either)

Although their schedules might be hectic and they can’t afford any spare time to think about relationships but this is all a question to do with principles. Their right to experience a sentimental life should be a question that fans need to examine and think about because it seems like SM probably does not really care to think about it. Sometimes imagination can cloud our critical thinking, mistaking the boys as semi-Gods rather than humans. That is what the entertainment industry portray celebrities as. But even when we are brought back to reality and we know that we must see them as human male beings, we sometimes choose to turn our heads away because the truth might be too hurtful.

I fully understand that loving someone who loves someone else is not an easy task at all. It will definitely feel much better to stop loving that person.
I loved once. The first time I loved, I learnt to give but not take. It was also a sense of admiration that I felt for someone who I considered better than me. (There goes my low self-esteem again ) Back then, I thought that by waiting, he would finally be touched by my sincerity but I quickly realised that I was mistaken. He chose someone else.

When I found out that he had a gf, my world seemed to become a darkness that I’d never known. It felt like I was betrayed in a sense. I couldn’t understand how someone could be so heartless and stupid. I mean, after all, why would you reject someone who’s loved you for almost half of their life? I felt extreme bitterness. But maybe he never knew that I sincerely loved him. He probably never knew how long I waited for him. But as time passed, all wounds will heal. The only mark left is a little sigh of regret or maybe even a little chuckle at how stub-born I had been back then.

It was a difficult decision I had to make when I was confronted with the question about how I should face him in the future. Should I just abandon love and replace it with hatred? Or should I stop being friends all together and avoid him as much as I could? I decided to continue loving but I changed my love for him. This time, I didn’t want him to myself. Rather than perceiving him as someone I had to obtain and receive the same amount of love in return, I started to learn to see him as someone I wanted to take care of.

This kind of feeling is similar to the feeling a parent would have for a child because parental love does not require the child to return their love. As long as you see him laugh and smile, even if it’s not for you, you will start to notice how happy you feel. You no longer feel that you are hopeless because making that person happy has become a stress-free task. When you expect nothing in return, you won’t be disappointed. This becomes unconditional love. It’s to love them spiritually instead of physically. This feeling will elevate you from the deepest end of pain caused by unrequited love.
Only when we give joyfully, without hesitation or thought of gain, can we truly know what love means.

If you only have two choices: 1) To loose him or to never see him again 2) To remain by his side quietly but having to see him with someone else… which one would you choose? Maybe your first instinct is to choose the first one because by leaving him, you can forget him and move on. But can you promise that you will never regret this decision? Do you think you can bear to leave someone you care about just because they didn’t choose you? Love is not based on a scale. We don’t measure how much someone loves us in order to return the same amount of love.

When you love someone and they don’t love you back it can feel like you are falling into darkness because there is no hope. There is nothing to grab onto to escape from this darkness because the heart does not follow the logic which clearly sends out the message: “let go”. We are so desparetly trying to grab onto something to survive so the idea of letting go is obviously insane. Even when we do want to let go, our sub-conscious or fear stops us from doing so because the basic human survival instinct is to grab on to something when we are falling. I sometimes wish that the heart would work together with the mind. Things will become so much easier if the heart stops going the opposite way.

I believe that all Cassies want the best for DBSK. I also think that Cassies are one of the bravest people because love takes courage. To be brave is to love someone unconditionally, without expecting anything in return. To just give. That takes courage; because we don’t want to fall on our faces or leave ourselves open to hurt. I hope that one day, the DBSK boys will be able to look back and smile at the power of love and the warmth they received from Cassies. DBSK might have gfs or wives in the future but ultimately, Cassiopeia’s love will still out rule them bwahahahaha!

[Trans] 110628 Park Yoochun practiced script reading for 8 hours daily… “Good Actor Quality”‏

Born in 1986, Park Yoochun glamourously debuted as TVXQ’s member in 2004. Although he was a member of the leading Asian idol group, he, together with Kim Junsu and Kim Jaejoong, with the name of JYJ, independently moved away from their ex-company. The first performance was in 2010′s drama ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’, and became one of the anticipated potential new actor, plus safekept the new fans that belonged only to JYJ. It also allows the JYJ who has difficult to step onto a stage, to appear on the stage of the drama award ceremony. Now, he who is currently acting in ‘Miss Ripley’, making his way as an actor.

“Although he already has the requirements of being a good actor, we did not expect that (his) first handling of history drama can be completed so well. With the practical and stability of practicing his lines everyday for 8 hours, with his large stage experiences and thus no fear of camera filming, fast adapting to the character, etc, there were lots of such virtues. Most importantly, when facing strong challenges, (he) has strong determination and passion. In the future, if (he) is able to be patient and seriously choose his works and creating, he would have the quality of becoming an even better actor.” (Kim Dong Rae – Sungkyunkwan Scandal’s production company, Raemong Raein’s representative)

Professional Record Breakers 🙂

What records have Hallyu stars TVXQ set that have surprised the world?

On the 25th, SBS’ E!TV ‘StarQ10′ made an investigation into TVXQ’s unusual Guinness World records as well as their overseas activities.

In 2008, TVXQ won the Guinness World Record for the biggest fanclub in the world and in 2009, they won the record for being the most photographed celebrities in the world with over 500 million photos taken of them.

During their Japanese tour, they set a record by selling out their tickets in a mere second. They surprised everyone when it was found that they were so active overseas in 2004 that they traveled the equivalent of 80 trips around the world.

TVXQ even proved their popularity in China when they received 136,031,908 votes in a popularity vote on a Chinese site. A Russian figure skater (Ilia Kulik) even used one of TVXQ’s songs for his gala show.

NEWS] 110614 The Dark Side Of South Korean Pop Music

Tohosomnia.net reports:

K-Pop sensations Girls’ Generation on stage in Seoul

South Korea’s pop industry is big business in Asia. As K-Pop sets its sights on Europe and the US, will this force a change in the way it treats its artists?

Selling singles is no way for a pop star to make money these days. Most artists find that touring and merchandise sales are more lucrative. So when it comes to concerts, size matters.

This is why the biggest date in the Korean pop calendar – the Dream Concert, at which up to 20 bands perform – is held in Seoul’s 66,800-seat World Cup Stadium.

Teenage crushes come here for a once-a-year date in a national love story, where commitment is measured in coloured balloons, and devotion is knowing all the words.

Most of the bands, like Super Junior and Wonder Girls, are household names; highly produced, sugary boy- and girl-bands with slick dance routines and catchy tunes.

But the industry also has a less glamorous side: a history of controversy and legal disputes over the way it treats its young artists, which it is still struggling to shake.

Fans of K-Pop star Rain helped him nab top spot in Time’s list of influential people

K-Pop is a massive industry: global sales were worth over $30m (£18m) in 2009, and that figure is likely to have doubled last year, according to a government website.

Industry leaders are also ambitious – Korean stars are beating a path to Japan, America and Europe. This month, South Korea’s biggest production company, SM Entertainment, held its first European concert in Paris, part of a year-long world tour.

In April, Korea’s king of pop, Rain, was voted the most influential person of the year by readers of Time magazine. And earlier this year, boy band Big Bang reached the top 10 album chart on US iTunes.

Follow the money

Korea is excited by what this new musical export could do for its image – and its economy.

But some of K-Pop’s biggest success stories were built on the back of so-called slave contracts, which tied its trainee-stars into long exclusive deals, with little control or financial reward.

Rainbow’s singers put in the hours

Rainbow is a seven-member girl-band, each singer named after a different colour. If any group could lead to a pot of gold, you would think they would.

But Rainbow – currently in a seven-year contract with their management company, DSP – say that, despite working long hours for almost two years, their parents were “heartbroken” at how little they were getting paid.

A director for DSP says they do share profits with the group, but admits that after the company recoups its costs, there is sometimes little left for the performers.

K-Pop is expensive to produce. The groups are highly manufactured, and can require a team of managers, choreographers and wardrobe assistants, as well as years of singing lessons, dance training, accommodation and living expenses.

The bill can add up to several hundred thousand dollars. Depending on the group, some estimates say it is more like a million.

Musical exports

But music sales in South Korea alone do not recoup that investment. For all their passion, home-grown fans are not paying enough for K-Pop.

The CD industry is stagnant, and digital music sites are seen as vastly underpriced, with some charging just a few cents a song.

Girl band 4minute on tour in the Philippines

Bernie Cho, head of music distribution label DFSB Kollective, says online music sellers have dropped their prices too low in a bid to compete with pirated music sites.

“But how do you slice a fraction of a penny, and give that to the artist? You can’t do it,” he says.

With downward pressure on music prices at home, “many top artists make more money from one week in Japan than they do in one year in Korea”, Mr Cho says.

Company representatives say concerts and advertising bring in far more than music sales. “Overseas markets have been good to us,” says one spokesman. South Korean musicians need to perform on home turf, but “Japan is where all the money is”.

As acts start to make money overseas, he says this “broken business model” – underpricing – is creeping into their activities abroad.

A former policy director at South Korea’s main artists’ union, Moon Jae-gap, believes the industry will go through a major upheaval. “Because at the moment, it’s not sustainable,” he says.

Until that happens, he says, artists will continue to have difficulty making a living.

South Korea’s government is keen to promote its new international identity, one many hope could rival Japan’s cool cultural image.

The only question is whether the industry ends up more famous for its music, or for its problems.

Night time It’s pitch black no moon…

 Refeatured 6/7/13
Night time.
It’s pitch black, no moon in the sky tonight, and the shadows seem to press in. You walk down a country road, pebbles crunching beneath your feet, your destination a crumbling mansion that looms before you.  (cue creepy music: dun dun dun, dun dun dun….)
 Yipes.

All around you have been the sounds of the night, but suddenly they are hushed, silence encroaching and enveloping you the closer you get to the mansion. Why exactly are you approaching this place? Why are your feet moving closer when every nerve in your body is screaming at you to run?

I don’t know. Just a fitting prelude, I guess.  Anyways, back to the story.

You step onto the porch, aged wood creaking beneath your tentative feet. A shiver runs down your spine as you push open the gilded door, step through it, cobwebs clinging to your hair. You can’t see a thing, but some unknown force seems to be propelling you forward, and you step with confidence….until you stub your toe on the staircase. Ouch, that’s gonna leave a bruise. Okay, maybe there’s no compelling presence, but you see just a slit of light to your left, somewhere towards the back of the mansion. Heart pounding, toe throbbing, you tiptoe towards the light. As you get nearer, your ears pick up the strangest sound. Almost like….slurping? Is someone eating something? Hmmm…

You stop before a closet, the light, strangely enough, coming from inside it’s narrow walls. You hesitate before opening the door, because, let’s face it, this story is weird enough already, right? But you’ve come this far, so, with a deep breath, you reach for the handle. However, before you can grasp the brass globe, the closet is opened from within! You scream, closing your eyes and hugging yourself for protection. When nothing attempts to bite you, you dare to peek out from beneath your eyelashes. What greets you is nothing like what you were expecting.

Yes, it is our very own Shim Changmin!  Because you have wandered into yet another segment of DBSK CUTENESS!!! Just couldn’t stay away, could yah? (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

Okay. Back to our magnae.  Ahem, Changmin-shii?

Yes? What do you want? You’re… interrupting my midnight snack.

Oh. Sorry. Well, I’m doing a series of posts on the cuteness of DBSK, and I needed some footage of you. If that’s okay with you of course.

Yeah, whatever. I don’t care. There’s some pictures in my bedroom. Help yourselves.

Oh. Thanks.

(shuffles over, starts flipping through the pictures)  It’s gonna be hard to find cute pictures of Changmin. I mean, how cute can an ‘evil magnae’ be, right? Maybe I should have done a charisma series instead….

Finding everything okay?

Well, kinda. No offense, but you don’t really strike me as the cutie type.

Let me take a look. I burnt some of the pictures, so my hyungs wouldn’t blackmail me, but there might be some left.

Don’t feel like you have to exert yourself or anything, Changmin-shii. I mean, you just ate and it’s the middle of the night. You must be sleepy…ooh! What do you have there?

Wow!!!! So cute!! I’m in shock!

There’s more.

Wow! You were so young! Bet you can’t look that cute anymore, can you?

Okay. So you can. Never mind.

Okay, I think that’s enough cuteness for one day. Thanks. We’ll just be going now. See ya.

(pregnant pause…)

What?

You don’t think I’ll just let you leave, do you? Once you’re here, here you’ll stay.

And now that you’ve seen my cuteness, I’ll have to do away with you quietly.

Oh? Really? Are you sure you want to do that?

Surprise!!!!

JK. Hehe.

Uh huh. Well, goodnight, Changmin-shii.

Ahem. Goodnight.

Uh huh. Now if I could just find the way out of here….Changmin-shii, could you show us where the door is?

Awww. Never mind, we’ll let ourselves out. So cute…..

All pictures from google. You know who you are.

EDITOR S NOTE WHAT is with all the…

EDITOR”S NOTE

WHAT is with all the Hogwash about U-Kiss, Code-V and the like reenacting, replacing, or surpassing a group as popular, even split, as DBSK?

Each one of these groups has, I am sure, its own dynamic, attraction, and appeal based upon the interaction and abilities of the individuals that comprise the groups. Even providing U-Kiss with the same staff, and executive leadership as was there for DBSK is no guarantee of tremendous success. Why? Simply because the success of DBSK has come primarily from the group dynamic of five of the most talented and individually determined people to hit the industry. What they have accomplished both as five members of DBSK, and now as JYJ and HoMin, three members and two members respectively, is astronomical. Even with U-Kiss’ intended “packed schedule” (which may not be a blessing btw) they have much to do to even come close to the legacy of DBSK.

Not only that, but the majority of DBSK fans are made of tough stuff, and loyalty is one of the glues that holds this fanbase together. We are “fanily”, a new coined phrase of my own that expresses JYJ and HoMin’s fanbase. There are always a few who run on the edge of the pack and drift off at some point–but these are few. As in the case of JYJ, what other group(s) can you think of, who, despite being unable to market new albums or promotions, or distribute products to the whole of their fanbase, still has the loyalty of their fans after a year of more of separation?

There will always be wannabees, and imitators just like with Elvis Presley, living their lives off of someone else’s accomplishments–but the original always is the best. Market these groups on their own merit Avex. You do not need to make them strive to live up to DBSK’s accomplishments. I’m sure that over time–these later groups will not suffer as much as DBSK, who broke the ground in Japan at the cost of their time, energy, and well-being. After all, these new groups will work hard to please your expectations, forfeiting their own desires until such time as they wise up to the reality of their everyday existence.

If they garner as large a fanbase as DBSK over time, let them do it on their own merit. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

Fanaccount 110609 SM Town in Paris ~ Day…

Fanaccount] 110609 SM Town in Paris ~ Day 1

So, I think I will make fanaccount for the 4 days of the SM Town in Paris, since it will last 4 days for me.
Day 1 is over : the arrival at CDG airport.

And it was just a mess.

Yesterday, we saw fancams of SNSD’s arrival, and it was respectful and very calm. i’m not fan of the girls, but I was glad for them that they didn’t have problem.
Today was really something else. We were kinda expecting it actually (3 bands arriving, including SHINee, who got in my opinion the worst groupies as fans)

The flight was scheduled to arrive at 6:20PM, and I arrived at the airport with [info]museelo a little before 1pm. there were only 4 girls who were already there.
So it was pretty calm for a bunch of hours, but at arround 4pm, much more fans came, and started waiting everywhere, including in the people’s way >.< And since the Korean cameras were there, everybody was yelling, they told us to make noise anyway, to film us. I was having a DBSK banner + a paper with “TVXQ hwaiting” on it, and a Yunho SM Town uchiwa ^^ , and the camera filmed me a lot. They interviewed me about “are you learning korean ?” or “why do you like Kpop ?” I answered calmly, wanting to show them something else than “the groupie side” of Kpop fan, that some Kpop can be mature etc. We wondered a lot about “what is the best location to wait for them”. At the beginning, we were near the arrival gate, but we ended more around the exit gate. A lot of Yunjae fans where here, with lightboard, huge banners, I was so happy so see them ♥ The flight was delayed. 20 minutes at the beginning, then 40 minutes. I heard them arriving before seeing them. Fangirls were yelling so loudly >.< Then we saw a bunch of bodygards and policemen, and then, the king. Yunho was in da place. I was only able to see him, and I was like “omg omg omg omg”. He passed by me super close, and then, that when I just noticed Changmin, wo was just behind him XD popping in front of my eyes. He was wearing a hat. Then, it happened, because there was SHINee following. And seriously, some of their fans were really disrespectful : they were folowing them, walking on the other fans, pushing them. I was only able to see the back of Taemin’s hair, because I was struggling to stay still and not falling. Then, I kinda manage to see Luna from f(x) waving at us, and it was over. I backed off for safety, and when the psychopath had left, i went out to see if we can see something inside their black van. The answer is no. Apparently, some were knocking at the van’s windows, so the boys closed the curtains. I stayed until the vans left, waving my TVXQ paper and uchiwa, just in case they were watching outside. Then, I got interviewed once again, and the guys asked me “How does it feel to see Dong Bang Shin Ki in real ?”. Honesty, the only thing that popped in my mind was “gaaaaaaah I’m in heaven”, but I tried to answer something more elaborate. I took me some dozen of minutes to go back on Earth (I haven’t still fully landed yet), to realized that I got Yunho and Min at less than 1 meter from me, and that they were freaking HANDSOME !!! TVXQ arrival at Paris airport 08/06/11

Tomorrow, I plan to go to the airport again to see Suju’ arrival, and I’ll attend the rehearsals of the concert since I have a soundcheck package. I hope we will attend Homin’s rehearsal !!
