[Trans] 130724 The Fair Trade Commission Orders SM Entertainment And Others To “Not Interfere With JYJ’s Activities”

jyjtradecommission

The Fair Trade Commission has laid down the verdict that SM Entertainment and others should not interfere with JYJ’s activities in the entertainment industry.

On the 24th of July, the Fair Trade Commission (hereafter known as the FTC) has given former agency SM Entertainment and the Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Art Industries (hereafter known as the KFPCAI) an order of prohibition for interfering with JYJ’s broadcasted appearances and activities as singers. JYJ is a group created by Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu, who were initially part of the 5-member idol group TVXQ and left the group in 2009 due to problems surrounding unlawful clauses in their exclusive contract.

The FTC stated, “JYJ released their first album in October of 2010 and tried to resume their activities as singers, but SM and the KFPCAI interfered with their activities in the entertainment industry by releasing an official notice that asked those in the industry to refrain from inviting or allowing JYJ to appear on televised programs, and from distributing their albums and online music files. The official notice was released through the KFPCAI and sent to 26 licensees in the industry, including the 3 major broadcasting companies, 6 K-pop and entertainment news related cable companies, and many album and online music file distribution companies.”

They continued to explain, “Considering the leverage that SM Entertainment has as one of the three biggest entertainment agencies in Korea, as well as the specific nature of the KFPCAI as an organization in the entertainment industry, the official notice that was released placed a considerable amount of pressure on the recipients,” and “Though JYJ have album sales of over 90,000 copies, they have had their activities as singers restricted in Korea, in ways such as not being able to appear on music programs or variety shows.”

To this, the FTC gave an order to prohibit SM Entertainment and the KFPCAI from pursuing any actions that interfere with JYJ’s activities. They have also ordered the KFPCAI to notify the 12 business associations in the organization, as well as the 26 licensees who received the official notice, of the corrective measures that have taken place.

The FTC also stated, “This incident is significant as it has prohibited a large-scale entertainment agency from using its influence and working with a business organization to prohibit the activities of celebrities currently locked in a legal dispute with the agency,” and “We hope that this verdict will shed light on similar unlawful actions that may be taking place in the industry.”

(Jaejoong, 12:56am KST) Confidence isn’t something that suddenly appears one day when you grit your teeth and make a decision. It’s something that comes naturally when you strengthen the capacities of your inner self. The strange thing is, the more you strengthen your inner self, the more confident you become, and the softer and humbler you become as well.

[TRANS] 130721 “Junsu! Junsu!” The 3,000-Strong Shouts That Rang Throughout A Bangkok Concert Arena

JYJ’s Kim Junsu opens his ‘Incredible’ Asia Tour in Bangkok, Thailand

“Junsu! Junsu! Junsu!”

On the 20th, the 3,000 fans gathered at the Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand shouted these two syllables ‘Junsu’ as loud as they could.

When the lights darkened and the instrumental of his last album ‘Tarantallegra’ began playing, their shouts only intensified, switching quickly to ‘Hey! Hey!’ to go along with the song.

Although the song was in Korean, a language that is quite foreign to them, the fans followed along with the cheers to greet the night’s star to their country.

This set the scene for JYJ Kim Junsu (26)’s first concert in Bangkok, Thailand for his second Asia Tour ‘Incredible’.

Fans held picket signs that read ‘XIA Daebak (Big Hit)’, handed out by local fansites such as ‘JYJ Box’ and ‘Coconut Xia’, and packed the venue. A sea of red rises up and down as fans hold red fanlights, JYJ’s color.

What stuck out was the fact that the concert venue was filled with teens, middle-aged parents with their children, and Koreans living in Thailand.

The day’s concert was the first event since the singer’s ‘Incredible’ showcase on the 15th.

After greeting his fans in Thai with a ‘Sawadikap (Hello)’, Kim Junsu said, “I’ve decided to kick off my tour with songs from my first and second album. Thailand has more passion than any other place I know. I’ll go all the way today.”

With a video that showed him shyly admitting his feelings to someone, he returned to the stage with a pink suit on to perform ‘I’m Confessing To You Right Now, Okay?’, ‘Chocolate Girl’, that has a sound as sweet as its name, and ‘No Reason’, which featured an erotic performance with the female dancers on a sofa.

Though there weren’t any ‘eye-popping’ special effects, Kim Junsu filled the stage with ballads that showcased his amazing vocal talents with ‘Don’t Go’ and ’11 o’clock’.

Fans didn’t let a single moment pass them by, whether Kim Junsu was drinking water, or had his veins popping on his neck as he sang the soulful ‘Rainy Eyes’, or was wiping the sweat off himself with a towel.

Fans could also hear the singer perform familiar drama OSTs such as ‘Love is like a Snowflake’ from ‘Nice Guy’, and ‘Foolish Heart’ from ‘Chunmyung’.

At his fans’ request, Kim Junsu sang the ‘Gwiyomi (Cutie) Song’, starting with “1 plus 1 is Gwiyomi” and also performed Ayaka’s ‘Minna Sorano Shita’ and Song Joong Ki’s ‘Nice Guy’ OST ‘Really’ without an instrumental, which was met with thunderous applause from the crowd.

The short videos that had been prepared in between the performances were another sight to see. The road that ‘Singer Kim Junsu’ has walked down was shown through pictures from his childhood and trainee days, and Thai subtitles ensured that the fans would be able to understand the video. When a kiss scene with an actress appeared on the screen, fans would be heard screaming “NO~” from even the very back of the crowd.

The atmosphere of the concert was at its climax during the last song of the night, ‘Incredible’, which also happens to be the title song of the singer’s second album.

Kim Junsu ran up to the front of the ‘I’-shape stage and had both hands in the air as he got his fans to join along. All his fans stood up and shook their fanlights as they danced to the music. Some even left their seats and ran up to the fence in front of the stage to get a closer look.

Mrs. Apapat (48), who attended the concert with her daughter Tataraphun (20), said, “Both of us really like Junsu,” and “My daughter says she likes him because he sings so well, and I like him because he always does his best and works hard, which makes him a great role model for my daughter. Like how we came to this concert together, Junsu has bettered our relationship and increased the amount of conversations we share.”

Kim Junsu will move on to Shanghai, China on the 28th, and then move on to perform in Seoul and Busan.

“I opened my Asia tour last year in Bangkok as well, and I think I’ve finished on a high with a lot of energy. I received so much energy and strength from the audience today. I will work hard to continue that ‘unlimited energy’ that I received today in the other countries I visit.”

TVXQ held their ‘TVXQ! LIVE WORLD TOUR ‘CATCH ME’ in SHANGHAI’ concert at 7:30pm at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. They captivated 10,000 fans with an amazing performance and great stage sets.

Fans in the audience held pearl-red fanlights and sang along in Korean, enjoying the performance to the fullest and even prepared a paper slogan event that said ‘TVXQ! Let’s Fly’, touching TVXQ and making the atmosphere of the concert better than ever.

There was fierce competition at the arena to grab last-minute tickets on the day of the concerts, and countless fans flocked to the area to take their chance. As they rushed towards the entry gate, the door at the gate broke, requiring the presence of public safety officials to sort things out.

Meanwhile, TVXQ have now successfully completed their Shanghai performance and are set to become the first non-Japanese singers to perform at Japan’s Nissan Stadium on the 17th and 18th of August. These two performances will conclude their large-scale Japanese tour that is expected to attract a total of 850,000 people.

“If you have a positive mind and work hard in your preparation and actions, you will be met with good results.”

Q. Please introduce yourself to our future and current Myongji University students and tell us what you’ve been up to.
A. Hello. This is TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho. Our Five Dome Tour in Japan began at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama on the 27th of April. Our last concerts in Japan were held from the 15th till the 17th of May at Tokyo Dome. Many Japanese fans came to our concert, so I was able to pour all of my passion into my performances. I believe that I was able to end the tour in success because of the attention and support given to us from Myongji University alumni and our fans.

Q. Please tell us about your future plans.
A. In July, we’ll be continuing our world tour in North and South America, and China. In August, we’ll be the first non-Japanese artistes to perform in Japan’s Nissan Stadium, the stage of dreams. This is something I feel every time I stand on stage for a concert, but the fact that our concerts give hope to so many people makes me feel so emotional. I believe that the success we’ve experienced till now is all thanks to the support of my fellow Myongji University alumni and the love of our fans. I hope to see you all soon as a great performer and a great actor.

Q. Do you have any advice for future and current Myongji University students?
A. I believe that the things we see and learn in school help us greatly in our transition to society. I think that you need to have the determination to see things through till the very end, no matter what you start, if you want good results. No matter what happens, if you have a positive mind and work hard in your preparation and actions, you will be met with good results. Most of all, you have to believe in yourself. To my future and current Myongji University juniors, always believe in yourselves and be willing to take on new challenges.

[Trans] 130719 JYJ’s Kim Junsu – Kim Jaejoong To Enlist In The Military This Year… “Currently Deciding On A Date”

jaejunechunmilitary

It has been found that JYJ’s Kim Junsu and Kim Jaejoong will be enlisting in the military this year.

Multiple sources in the K-pop industry have stated that the two singers are currently deciding on a date ahead of their military enlistment. In Kim Jaejoong’s case, he has already been given multiple draft notices, but has pushed back his enlistment due to reasons such as long periods of time spent overseas. However, it has become difficult for him to push back his enlistment any further.

A representative of the industry stated, “He is currently deciding on an enlistment date with his agency due to issues surrounding frequent overseas concerts and scheduled activities,” and “From what I know, he either plans to go near the end of this year, or next January to February at the latest.”

Kim Junsu, who received a second grade active duty designation, is also in discussions about his enlistment date.

A representative stated, “Taking into consideration the current controversy surrounding celebrity soldiers, he would like to enlist as a regular solider.” He continued to add, “The enlistment of male celebrities has always been a sensitive topic, and both singers are of the opinion to go the regular track and avoid the criticism that follows a shaky celebrity enlistment. They can’t help but be cautious as their status as top stars will make their enlistment a hot topic.”

Born in 1986 and 1987 respectively, Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu still have a bit of leeway age-wise in pushing back their enlistment, but both have already pushed it back numerous times. All three members of the group became the center of spotlight when they visited the Office of Military Manpower Administration for their physical checkups on the 14th of February, 2011. Kim Jaejoong’s draft notice set his enlistment for September, 2011 but was reported to have been pushed back to the following year. Now, the singer can’t help but be aware of public sentiment surrounding celebrity enlistments.

A representative of C-JeS stated, “All three members of JYJ plan to enlist in the military, like every other male in Korea.” However, he did not say much on when exactly the members would be enlisting.

Meanwhile, JYJ’s other member Park Yoochun has received a fourth grade reservist duty designation due to his asthma. There is no news yet on when Park Yoochun plans to enlist in the military.

[T/N: A few clarifications on military service for those who are worried.

– What is the grade system?
The grade system is one that designates men enlisting in the military to certain ‘grades’, depending on their physical state. Grade 1 is the highest ranking you can receive and a person is docked to lower grades based on physical attributes such as poor eyesight, high blood pressure, being underweight or any physical illnesses. Grade 1~3 are assigned to active duty, Grade 4 is assigned to reservist duty and so on (I omitted the rest since they don’t apply to JYJ)

-What does active duty mean in Korea?
Active duty in Korea doesn’t mean anything overseas (for the most part). This usually means the initial training/boot camp period + staying at a base in Korea for the rest of the enlistment. Soldiers get holidays once in a while to leave the base and visit family and friends, which is why it’s not unusual to see see people in uniform in the subway or buses.

-How long is the enlistment period?
1. Army/Marine – 1 year 9 months
2. Navy – 1 year 11 months
3. Air Force – 2 years
Each person can choose which he sector in the military he would like to go to.

-Is pushing back your military enlistment normal?
Yes! Regular people, not just celebrities, push back their enlistment for various reasons. The most used case is that Koreans who are studying overseas can push back their enlistment date in order to further their studies. In the case of celebrities, most push their enlistment date back till their late 20s or early 30s so it isn’t unusual for JYJ to have done so as well.
Most regular people just decide to go early (first or second year of university) so that it doesn’t hinder them in their upperclassmen years when they’re trying to find jobs and graduate. (My guy friends are all disappearing one by one ;___;)

Hope this helps a little!]
