[NEWS] Kim Ji Hee, “National Representative In The First Year Of High School, All Thanks To ‘TVXQ’”

[NEWS] Kim Ji Hee, “National Representative In The First Year Of High School, All Thanks To ‘TVXQ’”

○ She became a national representative because of TVXQ.
When speaking of her career as a golfer, credit needs to be given to the idol group “TVXQ”. To Kim Ji Hee, TVXQ had a huge presence in her life as a teenager.

“I am an avid fan of TVXQ.” Upon saying this, a smile could be seen on Kim Ji Hee’s face. Her mother, who understood her very well, came up with a big idea. “My mother said that if I succeeded in becoming a national golfer, I could go see TVXQ. If I became a national representative, I would be allowed to go watch TVXQ’s concert, so I really worked very hard.” Her mother’s proposal was an attractive one.

“So I worked hard and practiced, and became a national golfer in my first year of high school. But I still was not able to watch a concert.”

After that, her mother made a second proposal, “If I were to become part of the team of golfers to participate in the Asian Games, then I would be able to go watch a concert for sure.” (After she went through much difficulty to secure a spot in the team,) her mother then came up with another proposal to tempt her. “If I were to win gold in the Asian Games, then I would definitely be able to watch it.”

Thus, Kim Ji Hee believed her mother this time as well, and clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games. However, she still has not been able to watch the concert which she has dreamed of.

Kim Ji Hee, who has been tempted three times, smiled brightly as she said, “I will not accept anymore of such proposals. If I manage to attain good results this year as a professional golfer, then I will go proudly in the later half of this year.”

(T/N: Kim Ji Hee is an up-and-coming professional golfer. She was the rookie of the year awards at the Korean LPGA.)

[NEWS] 120322 K-Pop Fever In South America “Grow Twice As More”

[NEWS] K-Pop Fever In South America “Grow Twice As More”

CNN Chile reporter Stavros Mosjos that came to report for JYJ’s Chile concert shared, “Now K-Pop that was limited to certain fan base has now reached the public. Now is the perfect time for K-Pop to spread out to the general public.”

The furthest country from Korea, Santiago, Chile, shows Kia, Hyundai, LG, and Samsung company’s billboards are lined up on the way to downtown from Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez airport. 1 of three to four cars on the street are Korea. K-Pop is greeting an important time as Korea’s brand power is already significant in South America.

All the K-Pop fans, concert promoter, and press have stated that this year is the golden opportunity for K-Pop to spread K-Pop in South America.

According to the fans in Chile there are about 2-3 students in each classroom who are K-Pop fans. Although it only reached the mania however due to the ardent fans now K-Pop music has started to spread out to the general public.

CNN Chile reporter Stavros Mosjos that came to report for JYJ’s Chile concert shared, “Now K-Pop that was limited to certain fan base has now reached the public. Now is the perfect time for K-Pop to spread out to the general public.”

Concert promoters expect the current K-Pop of 20,000 to 30,000 market audiences to grow more than twice the size within this year. JYJ’s concert promoter Noix company CEO Gonzalo Garcia stated, “Korean artists popularity will more than double within one year. K-Pop is surely attracting quite a lot of attention.”

Some say that this type of popularity can be a temporary K-Pop boom however if you look further back Chie’s hallyu wave began much earlier. Majority of JYJ’s fan that visited JYJ’s concert March 9 has been a fan of JYJ since 5-6 years ago. This is even before the K-Pop boom started.

Cristina Jorquera, 25 shared that her Korean name is Han Boa said she became interested in Korean artists through Japanese animation. She held an interview after the concert with OSEN stating, “I liked Japanese animation which had me take interest in Japan’s pop culture which in turn made me a fan of BoA and TVXQ who were active in Japan at that time. I came to know that they were all Korean artists which led me to take interest in Korea.” Not only that she replied that majority of JYJ’s fans have been waiting for their performance for over 5 years, which tells us this is not a temporary boom.

Especially the K-Pop artists are already influencing the Chile’s youth values so it’s expected that K-Pop will become a larger influence. The stories of K-Pop artists making a name for themselves on their own seem to have contributed to being more favorable towards Korean artists. Another fan Nicole Escobar, 27 stated, “The social polarization in South America is very severe which limits the youth of dreaming of becoming successful however seeing the Korean artists that endure the difficult trainee period to become successful singers allow us to have hope ‘I can do it.’ Many fans like their stories of overcoming hardship.”

The fans have gathered actively together with other Korean artists fans to share and exchange information. Nicole Escobar, “International fan clubs are community of destiny. Although my friend is a fan of After School since there is no one in the fan club who can fluently speak Korean or English. Therefore they will request to a Super Junior fan who can speak English to translate some information. So there are these fan clubs that gather together to socialize by sharing information. If the numbers of fans are small then the Korean artists will not come to visit us, therefore it’s fairly important for all the fans to unite.”

Nevertheless there are still many things that are lacking. Fans pointed out that for K-Pop’s popularity to grow further within Chile the sharing of information needs to be more active. Cristina Jorquera expressed,“It’s is really difficult to find the information of my favorite artist in my language. More than the music that is made worldwide composers and new trend, we need the access to the information. We can even barely find one official homepage in Spanish.”

There is another assignment to solve. The reporters in Chile shared, “If album license is issued properly and CD is distributed, more fans who will purchase for $25-30 rather than purchasing it for $300-$400 from online.”

Most of all, the willingness of K-Pop stars towards the fans in South America will be the deciding factor to K-Pop sensation’s future. And more artists including Super Junior and B2ST have been reported to be preparing for concerts in South America. Big Bang, Super Junior, SHINee, 2NE1 are also popular in Chile, according to the reporters in Chile. As the interests towards K-Pop increase, there will be a higher demand for local events and concerts.

“Atmosphere already heated for concert on 11 March”
“Additional 1,000 seats sold out in an instant”

An additional 1,000 seats were added for JYJ’s Peru concert, as requested by local fans. The passionate atmosphere can already be felt even before the concert itself.

On 11 March, JYJ will be holding their concert for 5000 people at Peru’s Explanada Sur del Estadio Monumental. Due to strong requests from local fans, who rarely have the opportunity to watch (JYJ) perform, the organisers have also added extra seats.

JYJ’s management agency, C-Jes Entertainment, expressed, “As there were many requests from fans who were not able to purchase tickets, and (JYJ’s) schedule really did not allow for an additional show, we added 1,000 slots in empty spaces in the standing section. The 5,000 original tickets had sold out on 30 January, 2 days into the presales, and the additional 1,000 slots were also sold out in an instant.”

The passion of JYJ’s fans in Peru was already showcased back in January, when a queue formed the day before tickets for VIP seats, the closest seats to JYJ, went on sale.

A heavy blizzard did not deter Japanese fans from seeing their favorite K-pop stars perform.

Popular idol group TVXQ continued their national Japan tour by performing at the Niigata Toki Messe on February 18th.

Heavy snow has been falling in the Niigata area since January, causing the airports to shut down and even taking the lives of 50 citizens.

Without fail, the snow came down hard on February 18th, the day of TVXQ’s performance. Despite the dangerous weather, 2,000 fans stood outside the venue since the early hours of the morning waiting for the performance to begin.

More fans arrived as the merchandise began selling at around 1:00PM, and all the goods sold out within an hour of going on sale, setting a new record.

[Trans] 120128 JYJ’s Kim Junsu Says, “What Scares Me Most About Our First South American Concert Is…”

[Trans] 120128 JYJ’s Kim Junsu Says, “What Scares Me Most About Our First South American Concert Is…”

JYJ’s Kim Junsu recently expressed his anticipation for the group’s upcoming concerts in Peru and Chile in March.

Kim Junsu met with reporters and stated, “This is the first time in five years that I’m going to South America since visiting Rio de Janeiro in 2007 for a commercial. At that time, I only stayed for four or five days so I wasn’t able to see much while I was there,” and “My anticipation for our upcoming concerts there is as high as it could possibly be as we’ll work with passionate people in a new environment.“

His increased anticipation is partially due to the fact that he recently experienced the passion of fans from a similar culture through JYJ’s concert in Spain. He was deeply moved by the fact that fans were not merely spectators, but participants who were enjoying themselves.

Kim Junsu let out a long sigh as he said, “If there’s one thing that scares me, it’s the duration of the flight,” and “Last time, I think it took me more than 15 hours to get to Brazil with a stopover in Paris. I was told that it would take even longer this time around.”

The singer ended the interview with the statement, “As these South American concerts are the last leg of JYJ’s world tour, I think we’ll be able to provide the most complete performance we’ve ever given of everything we’ve done till now. We promise to visit our fans in other countries of the Central and South American region, such as Brazil and Mexico, someday.“

Meanwhile, JYJ will be holding solo concerts in Chile and Peru on the 9th and 11th of March respectively and Kim Junsu will begin performing in the musical ‘Elisabeth’ on the 9th of February.
