[News] 111226 JYJ Gives Their CEO a $300,000 USD Luxury Sedan

JYJ has expressed their gratitude for their C-JeS Entertainment CEO Baek Chang Joo in the form of a hefty gift!

On December 26th, an industry insider revealed that the trio had presented the CEO with a foreign luxury sedan estimated to be worth over $300,000 USD.

A representative of JYJ revealed, “Last weekend, we held our year-end party. After finishing the meal, we went out to discover a luxury sedan parked outside. The members wanted to show their gratitude for his support by coming together and pooling money for a new car.”

JYJ’s decision to buy him a car came from the fact that the CEO did not yet have his own personal car. Seeing him work so hard for them without something to call his own had hurt the boys’ hearts.

The representative continued, “JYJ and CEO Baek have known each other for two years, and they’ve been like brothers ever since. I believe it was a present to commemorate the success of their world tour, as well as a celebration of Christmas and the New Year. Aside from the fact that it is an expensive present, their hearts are truly in this gift.”

Translation 111224 Young Millionaire: Park Yoochun, Asia’s Most Popular Artist, Best-Selling in Korea, Japan

[TRANS] 111224 Young Millionaire : Park Yoochun, Asia’s Most Popular Artist, Best-Selling In Korea, Japan

Park Yoochun’s income is RM31 million(US$10 million)

He’s only 25 years old but his achievements probably invites jealousy from those who are also chasing the dream of being an artist.

Park Yoochun is in the list of top 5 young celebrities who rake in a hefty income, earning RM31 million (US$10 million) a year, at once becoming an inspiration to many youths who seek  similar glory. Not just enjoying popularity in his own country, Yoochun is adored by Japanese fans as well. The explosion of his popularity allows him to receive between RM90,000 to RM100,000 for every appearance.

This level of comfort wasn’t achieved by Yoochun in the blink of an eye. He started out facing hardships, but he didn’t give in or allow fate to dictate his life. Born and raised in Seoul, Korea on 4 June 1986, his family migrated to Virginia, US when he was 13 years old. “The people around me thought that migrating to the US would change my life. They thought I was lucky. Thinking back to that moment makes me not want to go through it all over again. Our financial situation was tough, and it drove me to work hard,” he said. The harsh beginnings have a massive impact on this handsome youth, who’s fondly called “Micky” and “Yuchun” by his fans.

Nevertheless, everything changed in 2003 when SM Entertainment held auditions in the US and Yoochun was picked in that session. With four other members, he joined TVXQ and enjoyed a popularity so meteoric, they were labelled as Asia’s stars, as well as “Kings of the Hallyu wave”. TVXQ reaped various awards in their own country, and in fact Yoochun played a big part in strengthening the group’s journey.

Their achievements weren’t in Korea alone. TVXQ’s rapid popularity snaked into Japan and a week after their first appearance, they started arranging for various activities in the Land of the Rising Sun. His natural talent for writing also led Yoochun to write the song “Kiss The Baby Sky,” that became the theme song of a morning news program in Japan, and allowing him to earn a lucrative income.

However, the sky wasn’t always clear. In 2009, Yoochun faced a major crisis that created so many possibilities when his career was at its peak. In mid-2009, Yoochun and two other members of TVXQ, Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu, filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment for an unfair contract. This lawsuit is still ongoing but the courts have allowed them to be active in the entertainment industry. On October 2010, they formed JYJ.

(Despite the troubles,) those worries gradually faded away when he was given the chance to start something new in his career.

He chose to become an actor and through “SungKyunKwan Scandal,” a drama that’s been sold to several countries, the royalties he received amounted to RM20 million. It has also been hailed as one of the most popular television dramas. He received RM951,000 for every episode, and another RM380,000 for overseas sales, at once putting Yoochun as the celebrity whose earnings reached RM63 million.  His Japanese fans also gave a positive response to the drama, allowing Yoochun to receive a certain amount of fees through DVD sales.

Not just successful in acting, Yoochun, who has been crowned as Asia’s Most Popular Artist also sang the theme song for the drama that earned various acknowledgements on online charts.

(With JYJ), he also produced an album that sold over 410,000 copies, besides raking in total sales of over 780,000 copies for several popular singles in Japan. In 2010, over 1.2 million copies of albums sold had indirectly contributed to the handsome youth’s lucrative earnings.

JYJ’s booming popularity made the trio, especially Yoochun, the advertisers’ top choice in South Korea.Throughout 2011, Yoochun acquired individually, lucrative contracts as tea product ambassador for Tio, Nintendo Wii for the launch of the latest edition of Zelda, Black Smith’s pizza chain and the latest, ramen brand Ottogi. Together with JYJ, Yoochun also appeared in the LG Optimus Q2 ad and became spokesperson for clothing brand NII, Penzal Q, retail outlet Lotte Duty Free and cosmetic company, Nature Republic.

Profile:
Full name: Park Yoochun

Date of birth: 4 Jun 1986

[TRANS] 111221 Why Is Park Yoochun Considered As The Next Lee Seung Gi In The Advertising Industry?
Written by TheRarasaurus

JYJ member Park Yoochun is currently gunning for the position of the second Lee Seung Gi.

Park Yoochun recently became the model for a new product launched by a famous food brand, with his unique smile that catches the hearts of women, coupled with his humming along to the product name “Gismyun,” netizens who watched the ad said “You can’t help but want to buy it and eat it,” “Park Yoochun looks too sweet, let’s go buy ramyun” and other responses.

Aside from this, Park Yoochun has also appeared in an ad for a famous computer game, and is featured together with members Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu in a pharmaceutical ad, getting involved in various types of ads, proving that he is gaining a reasonable amount of attention in the advertising industry.

And the reason why Park Yoochun has been chosen for more solo ads in comparison to his fellow members, should be because of the healthy, gentle image which he possesses. A representative from a large advertising firm said, “Park Yoochun is not considered as a star with exceptional looks, but one that possesses a natural and healthy image. And as a member of JYJ, he has a certain level of popularity, and is an ideal spokesperson appealing to consumers in their teens and 20s.”

Another person from the advertising industry said, “After becoming active as an actor, he has gained a certain amount of recognition among not only the younger age groups, but in the middle to older age groups as well. Currently, there are quite a number of advertisers that wish for Park Yoochun to endorse their products, and although I can’t give an exact number on how many cases, there are definitely a large number of advertisement requests asking for him.”

Following the current CF King Lee Seung Gi, who also has a warm, healthy image which earned him the the label of “Mother’s Friend’s Son,” Park Yoochun is currently receiving a lot of attention. Lee Seung Gi’s endorsements include home appliances, pharmaceutical products, apparel, foods and other advertisements, and is also a popular CF model among both consumers and advertisers, and now Park Yoochun is evaluated to have a similar potential.

But recently, Kim Junsu has been garnering much attention for attending Jo Seung Woo’s musical ‘Zorro’ and the VIP preview of his latest movie ‘Perfect Game’. 111223 Phillipines Reels From Typhoon Destruction and A Death Toll of 927

Once again, especially during this Christmas season, prayers go out to those affected by the Typhoon.

Typhoon Washi swept across the southern Philippines this weekend, washing away whole villages and killing 927 people, according to the latest estimates.

In a statement Monday, President Obama expressed condolences for “the tremendous loss of life and devastation” caused by flooding from the typhoon and said the United States stands ready to provide humanitarian assistance and recovery help.

Just last week, my colleague Elizabeth Flock asked whether 2011 was the year of natural disasters, with 12 disasters causing $1 billion or more in damage each in the United States alone, plus the Japanese earthquake, the Thailand flooding and the drought in Africa, among others.

The typhoon in the Philippines looks to enter the inauspicious list after the northern coast of the southern island of Mindanao was pounded for 12 hours with nonstop rainfall Friday. Of the 580 people who died in one city, Cagayan de Oro, the majority were women and children. The Associated Press reports: “About 143,000 people were affected in 13 southern and central provinces, including 45,000 who fled to evacuation centers. About 7,000 houses were swept away, destroyed or damaged, the Office of Civil Defense said.”

“The suffering here is unspeakable,” Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard J. Gordon told Bloomberg News from Iligan City, where he is helping oversee relief operations. “The government should act here very fast. The people have already suffered, and they’re making them suffer more.”

Translation 111218 “Water Supply Cuts”, “JYJ’, “Ganbappe!” Are Top Keyword Searches Of The Year For Ibaraki

[TRANS] 111218 “Water Supply Cuts”, “JYJ”, “Ganbappe!” Are Top Keyword Searches Of The Year For Ibaraki
Posted on December 18, 2011 by TheRarasaurus

Yahoo! Japan (Tokyo) revealed that one week after the Tohoku Earthquake (11-17 March) the fastest rising internet search keywords, in the case of Ibaraki, was related to lifelines. Also, the Japanese representatives of one of the biggest search online search engines, America’s Google, too said that for Ibaraki, the top “Fastest Rising Search Keyword” (Words that suddenly rose in the search rankings) was related to “Hallyu.” These are the keywords of Ibaraki for the year.

Yahoo! Japan revealed in the “2011 Searchword rankings,” the fastest rising keyword searches that occured a week after the Tohoku Earthquake for each prefecture.

Within the Ibaraki prefecture, the top 5 search words starting from “Tsukuba City Water Cuts” at no.1 were all lifeline related words. Despite the destruction by the earthquake, it was understood that the Southern areas of the prefecture were still able to connect to the internet and clocked a large number of searches.

Also, in Google’s annual search rankings, the words that rose the quickest in ranks compared to the year before, for Ibaraki, were “JYJ Live.” JYJ is a Korean idol group, and made out of 3 former Tohoshinki members. In October, they held Lives at Kokuei Hitachi Kaihin Koen (Hitachinaka City) and search numbers increased mainly due to the Hallyu fans.

In relation to the Tohoku Earthquakes, the no.2 Keyword was a project started by local volunteers, the “Ganbappe! Ibaraki Project.” No. 3 and 4 were related to “B-Grade Gourmet” and at no. 5 were topics about the “strange” nature of having internet among the devastation in the prefecture.

The company also said that in this year’s prefectural rankings, aside from the 3 affected prefectures in Tohoku (Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima) the other 44 prefectures’ ranked keywords were primarily about tourism, sports and entertainment.

111219 North Korea Mourns Dead Leader Son Hailed As Successor

North Korea Mourns Dead Leader, Son Hailed As “Great Successor”

ReutersBy David Chance and Jack Kim | Reuters – 29 mins ago

SEOUL (Reuters) – North Koreans poured into the streets on Monday to mourn the death of iron leader Kim Jong-il as state media hailed his untested son as the “Great Successor” of the reclusive state whose atomic weapons ambitions are a major threat to the region.

Earlier a tearful North Korean television announcer, dressed in black and her voice quavering, said the 69-year old ruler died on Saturday of “physical and mental over-work” on a train on his way to give field guidance — advice dispensed by the “Dear Leader” on trips to factories, farms and the military.

Security concerns over the hermit state, that in 2010 shelled civilians on a South Korean island and is blamed for the sinking of one of its warships earlier that year, were heightened after Seoul said the North had test-fired a short range missile prior to the announcement of Kim’s death.

It was the first known launch since June.

North Korea’s official KCNA news agency lauded Kim’s youngest son, Kim Jong-un as “the outstanding leader of our party, army and people”.

“We have esteemed comrade Kim Jong-un,” KCNA led a dispatch that said North Koreans from all walks of life are in utter despair but were finding comfort in the “absolute surety that the leadership of Comrade Kim Jong-un will lead and succeed the great task of revolutionary enterprise.”

But there was uncertainty about how much support the third generation of the North’s ruling dynasty has among the ruling elite, especially in the military, and worry he might need a military show of strength to help establish his credentials.

“Kim Jong-un is a pale reflection of his father and grandfather. He has not had the decades of grooming and securing of a power base that Jong-il enjoyed before assuming control from his father,” said Bruce Klingner, an Asia policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation in Washington.

“(He) may feel it necessary in the future to precipitate a crisis to prove his mettle to other senior leaders or deflect attention from the regime’s failings.”

Video from Chinese state television showed residents weeping in the North Korean capital Pyongyang. KCNA reported people were “writhing in pain” from the loss of the man who in 1994 assumed the leadership of the totalitarian state from his father Kim Il-sung, the North’s first, and officially eternal, president.

Large crowds were gathering at a massive memorial of Kim’s father and state founder Kim Il-sung in central Pyongyang mourning the death of the “Dear Leader.” Kim will be laid to rest next to his father, KCNA said.

The funeral of Kim, turned into a demi-god by his propaganda machine, will be held on December 28.

News of the death of the man whose push to build a nuclear arsenal left the North heavily sanctioned and internationally isolated, triggered immediate nervousness in the region, with South Korea stepping up its military alert.

China, the North’s neighbor and only powerful ally, said it was confident the North would remain united and that the two countries would maintain their relationship.

“We were distressed to learn of the unfortunate passing of (Kim) … and we express our grief about this and extend our condolences to the people of North Korea,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying.

“We are confident the North Korean people will be able to turn their anguish into strength and unify as one,” he said.

While his father had 20 years as official heir, Kim Jong-un only became successor by taking on official titles last year, months after Kim Jong-il suffered a stroke around August 2008.

He takes over a hermit state whose economy has been ravaged by decades of mismanagement under Kim Jong-il, who only briefly flirted with economic reform, preferring to stick with central planning and the brutal crushing of any opposition.

Under Kim Jong-il’s rule, an estimated 1 million North Koreans died during famine in the 1990s. Even with good harvests, the state cannot feed its 25 million people.

Little is known of Jong-un, who is believed to be in his late 20s, studied for a short time at a school in Switzerland.

KCNA said Kim Jong-il died on Saturday after “an advanced acute myocardial infarction, complicated with a serious heart shock”.

South Korea, still technically at war with the North, placed its troops and all government workers on emergency alert, but said there were no signs of any unusual North Korean troop movements.

The United States said it was committed to stability on the Korean peninsula as well as to its allies. There are some 28,000 U.S. troops on the divided peninsula. Across the heavily armed border, the North maintains an estimated 1 million troops, one of the world’s largest standing armies.

Japan, too, said it was watching developments closely.

“We hope this sudden event does not have an adverse effect on the peace and stability of the Korean peninsula,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura told a news conference after a hastily called ministerial meeting on security.

SHARES FALL

The fear of what might happen next in North Korea unsettled financial markets, with Asian shares and U.S. index futures falling. South Korean stocks tumbled as much as 5 percent, and the U.S. dollar gained. The Korean won fell 1.8 percent.

Kim Jong-un was at the head of a long list of officials making up the funeral committee, indicating he would lead it, and a key sign that he had taken, or been given, charge.

Zhu Feng, Professor of International Relations at Peking University, said it was clear the mechanism for transition was in place and working.

“The issue of primary concern now is not whether North Korea will maintain political stability, but what will be the nature of the new political leadership, and what policies will it pursue at home and abroad.

“In the short-term, there won’t be new policies, only a stressing of policy stability and continuity. So soon after Kim Jong-il has died, no leader will dare say that an alternative policy course is needed,” Zhu said.

But Chung Young-Tae at the Korea Institute of National Unification said there was “a big possibility that a power struggle may happen.”

UNCHALLENGED HEAD

Kim Jong-il also promoted his sister and her husband, Jang Song-thaek, to important political and military posts, creating a powerful triumvirate.

Chang is seen as effective regent for the younger Kim. He holds a top position in the powerful Worker’s Party providing some balance to the generals who have been seen as more hardline in pushing the North to develop an atomic arsenal.

Earlier this decade, Chang was forced into exile for what is thought to have been conflict over his push for economic reform.

Experts say Jong-un has the intelligence and leadership skills that make him suitable to succeed his father. He is also reported to have a ruthless streak that analysts say he would need to rule North Korea.

REGIONAL THREAT

North Korea, which tested a nuclear device in 2006 and again in May 2009, is seen as one of the greatest threats to regional security.

Last year, the secretive North unveiled a uranium enrichment facility, giving it a second route to make an atomic bomb along with its plutonium program.

Victor Cha, a Korea expert with the Center for Strategic and International Studies think-tank in Washington, said communication between China, the United States and South Korea was vital.

“Because these are the three key players when it comes to instability in North Korea. And the Chinese have been reluctant to have any conversations on this,” he said.

“Now the situation really calls for it. It will be interesting to see how much the Chinese will be willing to have some sort of discussion.”
