Synopsis
Based on true events, the story is about a large 69-ton fishing boatâs crew as they attempt to smuggle in illegal migrants in order to keep their fishing jobs. But their plan goes wrong when they meet a tragic accident while transporting the thirty or so illegal migrants on the ship amid a heavy sea fog. And amid the chaos, the youngest crew Dong-sik tries to protect a young female migrant who he falls in love with against the crazed Captain Kang and other crew members.
Directorâs Comment
Based on a true event that took place in Yeosu, 2001, HAEMOO is a combination genre film that fuses crime thriller and melodrama. Ordinary fishermen face moments of hell as they take on the role of smuggling illegal Korean-Chinese migrants. Stuck in thick sea fog, I wanted to portray the innocence and personal sacrificial love that rise from clashing of this generationâs pain, human desire, human desire and morality in a moment of grave adversity.

This is what Park Yoochun had to say about JYJâs split from TVXQ, a group that recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, five years ago.
In an interview with edaily StarIn ahead of the release of âSea Fogâ, Park Yoochun was asked to rate his activities since the dissolution of TVXQ, to which he replied, âI was happy.â He continued to add, âBut as time went on, I began to think, âWhat was it all for?â It was probably a choice we all made for ourselves as individuals. Even the ill feelings I once had towards them are gone now. I truly hope that all of us are happy right now.â
Park Yoochun said, âIâm really excited to see the drama âNight Watchmenâ, which Yunho appears in.â âNight Watchmenâ is MBCâs current Monday-Tuesday drama that began airing after the end of âTriangleâ, which JYJâs Kim Jaejoong appeared in.
Park Yoochun reminisced about his old colleagues as he said, âI hope it all works out for all five of us,â and âIf weâre able to get together and have a glass of soju together one day, even that alone would be great, donât you think?â
TVXQ made their debut in 2004 with âHUGâ and released a stream of hits such as âO-Jung.Ban.Hapâ and âMIROTICâ, becoming the most popular Korean idol group ever. Since splitting into a two-membered TVXQ and three-membered JYJ due to problems with their contract, they have been expanding their activities to the drama, movie and musical industries, showcasing their prevailing popularity and influence.
Park Yoochun recently made a comeback as both a singer and actor. JYJ released their second full-length album on the 29th of July and held their Seoul concert on the 9th. His first movie âSea Fogâ was released on the 13th.
âSea Fogâ is based on a play that follows six sailors as their boat is flooded by a group of stowaways. In the movie, Park Yoochun plays Dong Shik, the youngest crew member who falls in love with Hong Mae (Han Yaeri), who becomes a stowaway to find her lost brother.

The Busan showcase of âSea Fogâ had the crowds roaring in delight.
The team of âSea Fogâ gathered in Busan on the 15th of July to hold an impromptu greeting and showcase, and was met with loud cheers from the public.
Busanâs Gwanganli Beach in Haeundae was already filled to the brim with people even before the arrival of Kim Yoon Seok, Park Yoochun, Lee Hui Joon, Moon Sung Geun, Kim Sang Ho and Han Yaeri. Kim Yoon Seok said, âIâm so happy to be coming back to my hometown for this event. Thank you so much for coming to see us despite the weather.â
The showcase had the actors holding a quiz about their upcoming movie and giving movie tickets to audience members who got the answers right. As this was the first time that the cast was meeting the public, it was later said that everyone had a great time during the event.
The official showcase that was held from 8pm was attended by over 3,500 people. The showcase was aired live on Daum, showing the cast members giving honest answers about their experiences. A never-before-seen teaser for the movie was aired, much to the delight of the audience. Signed posters were handed out, pictures were taken, and Park Yoochun gave surprise hugs to a limited few.
Curiosity about Park Yoochun and Han Yaeriâs intimate scenes as Dong Shik and Hong Mae peaked as the night went on.
Director Shim Sung Bo stated, âThank you so much for coming to such a meaningful event. Forget about the summer heat with our great production,â while Kim Yoon Seok said, ââSea Fogâ is a sexy movie you canât take your eyes off of. Donât miss out!â Meanwhile, Kim Sang Ho said, âIn word one, I would describe âSea Fogâ as ârealâ. Itâs such a realistic movie.â

On August 5, the star sat down with news outlet Asia Economy to talk about his thoughts on the movie. He began by confessing, âDong Sik, who I play in âSea Fog,â is very naive. He is the type of person that I have always admired.â
âSince the beginning of middle school, I have earned money by myself. I have carried the responsibility for my life since then, and seeing Dong Sik take care of his grandmother and work hard jobs, I noticed similarities between Dong Sik and myself,â the talent continued.
âAlthough me and Dong Sik share a number of traits, we are still very different. I like his way of taking rapid action thanks to his simple way of thinking and his way of pushing forward with his plans. I envy him, and I think our era needs people like him. There are not many people like Dong Sik, I think,â he confessed.
ââSea Fogâ is a movie that the current era needs. It shows pure and innocent love that you do not see in our modern society,â the actor said, and revealed his yearning for unconditional love, âNowadays, people consider the terms before looking at the person, but Dong Sik and Hong Mae (Han Ye Ri) love each other unconditionally. I miss that kind of love, and I am jealous of them.â

JYJ members Park Yoochun, Kim Jaejoong, and Kim Junsu are vigorously pursuing their personal activities. Each one of the members now shows off their talents in acting, musicals, and more. May will be a busy time for the members.
Park Yoochun will be saying goodbye to his fans on SBSâ âThree Daysâ on May 1st, where heâs been showing off his masculine charm and matured acting skills. Kim Jaejoong will be taking the empty spot and greeting the viewers through MBCâs new drama âTriangle.â Expectations are high since viewers will be able to see Kim Jaejoong act as a rugged bum in the drama. While âTriangleâ is riding the airwaves, Kim Junsu will fly to Japan and hold his first Japan musical concert titled â2014 Xia the Best Ballad Spring Tour Concert in Japan.â He will be greeting approximately 70,000 fans in Tokyo from the 13th to the 15th and in Osaka from the 22nd to the 24th.
This type of ârelayâ activities has become the norm for these JYJ members. BoA has expressed her gratitude to TVXQâs Yunho, who made a cameo in her Hollywood movie, âMake Your Moveâ, through the showcase âBoAâs Love Letterâ at CGV Cheongdam in Seoul.
âI thanked Yunho for appearing as a cameo. He came to America and quickly memorized the choreography to film his part. It has been reported that TVXQâs Changminâs starring drama âMimiâ will be screened in theaters across Japan!
According to Japanese media outlet Sankei Sports on the 18th, Mnetâs four-part drama âMimiâ will be edited into a movie version to be screened in thirty theaters across Japan starting next month. Itâll be split into two parts with the first part starting its run on May 9th and the latter part hitting theaters on May 16.
âMimiâ portrays the story of popular webtoon writer Minwoo, who is on the search to find the first love Mimi (Moon Ga Young) he lost when he was younger. Changmin portrays both the younger version of Minwoo who falls in love at the tender age of 18 and the older version who lost her. The drama aired from February 21 through March 14 in Korea, and now itâll be making its way over to the viewers of Japan.

JYJâs Park Yoo Chun was recently featured in the latest issue of fashion magazine âSinglesâ, where he was photographed at the film set of his current drama âThree Daysâ, while also revealing his thoughts about filming in the accompanying interview.
On the day of the shoot, Park Yoo Chun was seen constantly in dialogue with director Shin Kyung Soo in front of the monitor, as they reviewed footage that had just been filmed. Shin Kyung Soo praised Park Yoo Chun as an actor who was intelligent, meticulous, adaptable, and creative.
The filming staff also praised Park Yoo Chun for being a honest actor. In the accompanying interview, Park Yoo Chun admitted, âIt is really great. I get along well with the staff, and I had a great time filming the drama. It is really cold during filming, and there are many action scenes, so it isnât really easy for me. But after going through all that, I find myself changing. I always try my very best to be courteous in the past. But I have become more at ease now, and can talk and joke with the staff without any inhibitions.â
The reason for Park Yoo Chunâs transformation, can be attributed to the 4 months that he spent with the filming staff for the filming of his movie âSea Fogâ. He said with a smile, âIt felt really awkward to have to adhere strictly to all the courtesy and politeness during the filming of the movie. So I felt that I should treat everything as natural as possible instead, instead of forcing the issue. I had meals and drinks with the filming staff in the 4 months of filming, and understood a lot of things.â
