[NEWS] Will We Be Able To See JYJ On ‘Strong Heart’?

Though the doors to JYJ’s chances of appearing on variety and music programs have opened up, the door sill that blocks them is still sky-high. JYJ’s legal dispute with SM Entertainment has been settled, but no broadcasting companies have made any movement to invite JYJ on their programs.

JYJ fought a long legal battle with SM for three years and four months. The fact that they are ‘Kpop stars’ and ‘former members of TVXQ’ were enough to push them into the spotlight. As producers and writers of broadcasting companies are always searching for controversial topics and fresh faces, one would believe they would be rushing to get JYJ.

A representative of JYJ’s management agency C-JeS Entertainment stated, “We haven’t stopped knocking on the doors (of variety shows and music programs) but we haven’t gotten a single confirmation or a request from any production team,” and “We can’t fathom why.” Their chances look bleak for end-of-the-year music awards shows as well. The representative also stated, “We made enquiries to various music awards shows, with proof of high album sales, and there have been places that have already expressed that they have no intention of inviting JYJ yet again.”

With SM dominating all broadcasting companies, many in the industry wonder if JYJ will ever be able to be truly free to pursue independent activities. One representative stated, “Think of it this way, would JYJ really be able to appear on SBS’ ‘Strong Heart’, a TV show run by SM celebrities and Super Junior?”

Many representatives of the music industry are raising their voices against the ‘walking on eggshells’ approach broadcasting companies take because of their relationship with major entertainment agencies. Though there is no specific instance of coercion, production companies ‘meekly follow’ the wishes of the major entertainment agencies, who have Korea’s hottest celebrities working under their labels, to keep their relationship intact.

A representative of KBS’ variety sector stated, “Though I’m sure JYJ will be able to freely pursue independent activities once they actually start appearing on TV shows, many in the industry just hope it’s not them who has to start it off.” A representative of MBC’s drama sector stated, “Though JYJ have been finding success in sectors where major entertainment agencies have less of an influence, I know for a fact that there were many instances where even these activities were close to failing,” and “I don’t think we could say that JYJ are really ‘free’ now.”

A representative of C-JeS Entertainment showed his disappointment as he said, “There have been no legal issues, not since the 28th of November when the two sides came to an agreement, but since three years ago when the first injunction was accepted by the courts. We have known from the beginning that the issues that JYJ are facing against broadcasting companies was never a legal issue.”

JYJ’s Jaejoong will be releasing his first solo album since debut.

C-Jes Entertainment stated on 18 Dec, “Jaejoong will release a very special solo mini-album next January.”

C-Jes representatives also revealed, “Kim Bada, the 5th generation vocalist for the “rock legend” Sinawe, personally participated in the production of the album this time. The album will contain various genres of rock music. Jaejoong’s husky and tough high notes which could not be seen during JYJ’s activities, as well as his various charms, will be showcased through this album.”

Jaejoong’s talent as a rock vocalist has been recognised till now through his solo stages like “그것만이 내 세상 (That’s Only My World)” and “너를 위해(For You)” during concerts including their Japan Dome concerts. In particular, the anticipation for the album this time is heightened as Kim Bada, who was acknowledged as one of the top rock vocalists through “I Am A Singer”, will be participating in the production this time.

Kim Bada stated, “Jaejoong has the good qualities required of a rock vocalist. Also, because he is very serious about music, my love for him became stronger after working with him. One of Jaejoong’s charms is his unique way of singing, which is a little sexy and glamorous at the same time. I think that he will be able to present outstanding rock numbers no matter how they are produced.”

He also went on to say, “The thing about rock music is that it requires that you infuse the stories that are buried deep inside your heart into music. Jaejoong’s sense when it comes to writing lyrics is not lacking at all. I think that he will be recognised as an artiste rather than an idol from now on.”

Till now, Jaejoong’s self-composed and self-written songs have been released in JYJ’s as well as Junsu’s albums. Having proven his abilities as a singer-songwriter, Jaejoong will also be writing the lyrics for all the songs in the album this time, further proving his competence.

C-Jes Entertainment said, “The specific contents of the album are top secret. It is planned for the album’s jacket teasers and album teasers to be released in succession beginning next week. It is also being prepared for the music video to be revealed together with the release of the audio. This special album, which will include OST tracks from the movie “Here Comes Jackal”, will be a surprise gift for the fans this winter.”

Kim Jaejoong (27) will not be able to forget 2012. This is because it was the year that Kim Jaejoong moved away from his title as a member of JYJ and made his mark as an actor. He garnered much attention for his role in the drama ‘Dr. Jin’ and has taken his first step to becoming an actor on the big screen through his role in ‘Jackal is Coming’.

Even amidst his busy schedule, Kim Jaejoong is never idle in one aspect. Working on the interior design of his house.

“I think I have a knack when it comes to interior designing. Haha!”

He smiled brightly when the topic of interior designing came up and began talking animatedly. He said, “I have a lot of affection for the house I’m currently living in,” and “Whenever I have a spare moment, I work on the interior design of my house.” Kim Jaejoong once revealed the interior of his apartment last November through his personal SNS account. A simple, circular table, extravagant chandelier and clean-cut marble floors and walls reminded one of a ’boutique hotel’.

 

“It’s already been a year since then. The interior design has changed. I’m the kind of person who will change furniture immediately once I get tired of it.”

With that, he gave us his phone to show us a picture of his living room. A horse sculpture, the size of a normal human being, is what catches our eye. When we said, “That sculpture is cool,”  he replied by saying, “It’s not a sculpture, it’s a lighting apparatus.”

“It’s a product I really like. It took me a lot of effort to get it. I really like lamps. I make sure to have at least two or three lighting apparatuses in each of my rooms.”

He has a lot of unique ornaments in his home. As someone who prefers modern furniture, he tries to place sensual items in strategic locations to create a sophisticated image.

“I like simple designs for the most basic pieces of furniture like sofas and tables. I usually choose unique and sensual products to become focal points in each room.”

Kim Jaejoong, whose love for interior design is quite extraordinary, laughed as he said, “I might even leave my friends for the sake of interior designing.” It’s been long since he gave up on the cats he once liked so much.

“I like inviting my friends over to my house, but they touch my favorite art pieces and leave fingerprints on them. And they break my clocks. I feel as though I have to choose between friendship and interior designing. (laughter) I found that I can’t keep a cat either. I used to have cats but they scratched my favorite blue sofa. So I gave them to my sister.”

As he is now done with his movie, we said to Kim Jaejoong, “Now that you have more downtime, we’re guessing your house will become more beautiful.”

“I’m already in the process of choosing my next project. Acting is so much fun. Decorating my house doesn’t conflict with my schedule because it’s something I’m always doing. Maybe next time, I’ll open my house up to cameras? (laughter)”

Jackal is Coming’, the comedy starring JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong and Song Ji Hyo, is set to begin showing in cinemas across Japan on May 3rd.

‘Jackal is Coming’ has opened its official Japanese homepage and has started preparations for its Japanese debut. A Twitter account and Facebook page have also been created for Japanese viewers. The movie is set to be released under the title ‘Codename: Jackal’.

As JYJ are extremely popular in Japan, popularity for the movie is already skyrocketing. Regarding  ‘Jackal is Coming’ and its Japanese release date, various media sources described the movie as “a production that has been receiving much interest from the world, especially Asia, since its release.”

Regarding the leading role of Kim Jaejoong, they stated, “Not only does he sing as a member of JYJ, he has received much praise for his growth as an actor through the Korean dramas ‘Protect the Boss’ and ‘Dr. Jin’. He plans to give viewers much to anticipate by throwing away his composed image for his role.” They also added that Kim Jaejoong contributed to the OST with a song he wrote the lyrics for himself.
