[Trans] 120128 JYJ’s Kim Junsu Says, “What Scares Me Most About Our First South American Concert Is…”

JYJ’s Kim Junsu recently expressed his anticipation for the group’s upcoming concerts in Peru and Chile in March.

Kim Junsu met with reporters and stated, “This is the first time in five years that I’m going to South America since visiting Rio de Janeiro in 2007 for a commercial. At that time, I only stayed for four or five days so I wasn’t able to see much while I was there,” and “My anticipation for our upcoming concerts there is as high as it could possibly be as we’ll work with passionate people in a new environment.“

His increased anticipation is partially due to the fact that he recently experienced the passion of fans from a similar culture through JYJ’s concert in Spain. He was deeply moved by the fact that fans were not merely spectators, but participants who were enjoying themselves.

Kim Junsu let out a long sigh as he said, “If there’s one thing that scares me, it’s the duration of the flight,” and “Last time, I think it took me more than 15 hours to get to Brazil with a stopover in Paris. I was told that it would take even longer this time around.”

The singer ended the interview with the statement, “As these South American concerts are the last leg of JYJ’s world tour, I think we’ll be able to provide the most complete performance we’ve ever given of everything we’ve done till now. We promise to visit our fans in other countries of the Central and South American region, such as Brazil and Mexico, someday.“

Meanwhile, JYJ will be holding solo concerts in Chile and Peru on the 9th and 11th of March respectively and Kim Junsu will begin performing in the musical ‘Elisabeth’ on the 9th of February.

Editors Note: What Is a Chameleon?

Human skin sheds, but does not change color.  Chameleons adapt to any color background because the colorant is from a protective force within. .

Chameleons are remarkable reptiles. Their method of protecting themselves and guarding their territory is to change to suit the environment in which they presently live. This means that they are red against red; blue against blue, green and yellow against green and yellow. This works fine for the chameleon who was designed by God to be this way. However, when it comes to people, changing their outer colors to gain advantage in each market points to inconstancy, insecurity, and unreliability. What determines strength is the ability to make a wise stand and stick to it despite severe opposition and persecution. The insecure tend to run in numbers, gaining their strength from bullying and conniving while the secure gain their strength from inner resources that inspire others to be supportive.

Are you getting my message? The chameleon changes on the outside but the inside does not change. Humans tend to change from the inside and show their outer colors, which, theoretically, do not change. A brave man is a brave man, and a coward is a coward. There is always hope that a person can change their colors–but the desire must come from the inside to be displayed to others around them. Inspiration makes a difference in the way that we act, perceive, and receive.

Remember. No one is disposable; there is always margin for change, and the change that is permanent is motivated from the inside and shows results to the present society and beyond. Pray for change; make a stand; fight wise battles; and expect results.

[TRANS] 120201 ‘Liberal’ Overseas Strategy, ‘Narrow-minded’ Domestic Operation… Two Faces of SM?

[TRANS] 120201 ‘Liberal’ Overseas Strategy, ‘Narrow-minded’ Domestic Operation… Two Faces of SM?

Strange things arose from the ‘1st Asian Song Festival’, which was held on November 2004. On the eve of the festival, Hallyu star singer Tony An, who was supposed to host it, announced that he would not do so. It was because the organizer initially asked him to host and perform on the festival, but suddenly told him not to perform. Tony An said that there was no point in just hosting it, hence he rejected the request. At that time, the key participating members of the festival were singers under SM Entertainment. Netizens simultaneously protested that there were senior-level figures from SM among the board members of Korean Federation for International Culture Exchange that organized the festival. They also questioned if SM tyrannized Tony An in order to promote singers who were under its management.

In 2005, a terrestrial musical program suddenly vanished. A person involved claimed that SM had something to do with it. A staff from the broadcasting company said, “SM ceased the appearance of its singers on the program, showing how much it wanted the program to stop”.

SM is the biggest agency in South Korea. It is practically impossible for SM singers to stop appearing on public and cable TV everywhere. SM not only has influence in domestic broadcast, but also in the world’s second music industry, Japan, Europe and the United States. In the mid-1990s, the CEO of a huge agency who had successful actors under its management threatened a reporter who went to cover a report by saying, “If you don’t stop reporting, I will immediately stop the actors in my agency from appearing in the drama.” The huge agency, which manages its top stars in this way, has more influence than one imagines.

Among the big agencies, SM is boastful about its system being the most systematic in terms of its relationship with the mass media, method of content distribution, training of its singers, etc. Silently, SM backbites singers who left the agency. JYJ, who emerged after the separation of TVXQ is a typical example of backbiting.

After SM and JYJ started their lawsuit, JYJ have to live their lifes, covered with scars. They were frequently barred from appearing on music and artistic talent programs and denied from appearing on ‘KBS Jeju 7 Wonders Special Live Broadcast’, etc. Such siituations, which are difficult to understand using common sense, continued to occur. Recently, the screening of JYJ’s ‘The Day’, a documentary about their lives, on cable channel QTV suddenly went up in smoke. The trailer for the documentary has already been made.

Frankly, which broadcasting company will reject top stars like JYJ? Many netizens and people related to broadcasting believe that SM caused the revolt and ‘suffering of JYJ’. With concern, they are keeping an eye on the situation. What the fans of Hallyu hope for is strong logic rather than a magnanimous and tolerant attitude to accept everything.

[PETITION TUTORIAL] Tell CGV Your Disappointment At Their Actions and Breach of Contract

This petition is to let CGV know that you are against their unilateral decision to cancel The Day‘s screenings just days before the premiere and that you seek a better explanation for their action instead of the flimsy excuse that they provided. You are also declaring your stance against the “bullying” that has become endemic in the entertainment industry.

Heavy Snow Leaves 53 Dead, Hundreds Injured In North, West Japan

Heavy Snow Leaves 53 Dead, Hundreds Injured In North, West Japan

Heavy snow has left 53 dead and hundreds injured in several prefectures in western and northern Japan, it has been learned.

The loss of life came primarily in five prefectures along the Sea of Japan in the Tohoku region and Hokkaido, with 12 dead in Niigata, 11 in Hokkaido, nine in Aomori, eight in Nagano and six in Akita. Reported injuries have already surpassed 574, with over 100 in four of the five prefectures affected most by the strong cold air mass sweeping through the region.

Meanwhile, a number of municipalities blanketed by the heavy snow say they have run out of funds for snow removal, and have begun urgent calls on the central government for financial assistance.

According to Niigata Prefecture, the prefecture’s 30 municipalities had budgeted a total of some 13 billion yen for snow removal, but that as of Jan. 23 at least 12 could no longer afford to keep clearing snow, forcing the prefectural government to step in with supplementary funds. Furthermore, six cities in the prefecture have tapped central governmental emergency aid under the Disaster Relief Act.

In the prefectural city of Myoko, where more than three meters of snow has accumulated, authorities had to close all 14 elementary and middle schools as well as special education schools in the area as the snowfall outstripped the municipality’s capacity to clear it.

With the Japan Meteorological Agency warning of continued snowfall mainly along the Sea of Japan, snow removal expenses in the region are expected to increase further.

In Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture, after snow is removed, it is stored in rice paddies until the beginning of the rice planting season. The entire process, including the use of heavy machinery and dump trucks, cost the municipality approximately 200 million yen in fiscal 2010, officials said.

“In places where it snows heavily, a lot of money is used even after the beginning of the spring,” said an official from the city’s construction office.

The Aomori Prefectural Government, which had initially allocated approximately 1.9 billion yen for snow removal operations, has already used about 1.8 billion. To cover additional snow removal expenses, prefectural officials have applied for about 2.94 billion yen in additional central government subsidies.

Meanwhile, the heavy snow has left major scars on infrastructure as well.

An approximately 95-meter-long steel bridge in the Nagano Prefecture village of Sakae collapsed on Jan. 30. Municipal authorities believe the cause may have been heavy snow, which was more than three meters deep at the time of the collapse.

The accident fortunately caused no injuries, as the bridge had been closed following the major earthquake that struck the prefecture in March last year.

A 41-year-old man in the same village, who lived in a temporary housing unit following last year’s earthquake, was reported dead on Jan. 6 after he fell from his unit’s roof while trying to clear it of snow.

This year’s heavy snowfall seems to be approaching the magnitude of that in 2006, which left major damage predominantly in Niigata and Nagano prefectures.

According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, a total of 152 people died during that year as a result of heavy snowfall. Approximately three-fourths of those deaths occurred during snow removal, sources say.

Translation 120130 Kim Junsu’s Exclusive Interview: It’s Really Crazy Too Be Compared With Cho Seung Woo Hyung

[Trans] 120130 Kim Junsu’s Exclusive Interview: It’s Really Crazy To Be Compared With Cho Seung Woo Hyung‏

[Musical Elisabeth’s Lead Kim Junsu]

To compare me, who has only participated in three works, with the best senior…

Due to the pressure received for being an idol and overcame it in debut work, ‘Mozart’.

If were to reborn, I would not be an artiste.

During the later half of 2009, musical ‘Mozart’ production team’s EMK musical company had the last contractual discussion with TVXQ member Xiah Junsu. Xiah Junsu was the best as an idol singer but the experience for musical was naught. The performance fee that the company proposed was different from the request by Xiah Junsu’s representative. The 3000 seatings in Sejong Cultural Centre for the performance was considered to be a large hall. “The 3rd floor won’t be filled up anyway,” this was what the production company thought. The situation ended with Xiah Junsu’s representative’s , “Our Junsu can do it.”

“Our Junsu” made it. At the opening of ‘Mozart’ on January 2010, the crowd filled up the three floors of Sejong Cultural Centre. There were hundreds of Japanese middle-aged ladies who held the air ticket in one hand and the other hand holding onto to a binoculars, flying across the sea to see him. Xiah Junsu gained the title of ‘Running Guarantee’ (Performance fee received based on the tickets’s sales) with 30 million won fee. Last year, the online ticketing system crashed for his second work, ‘Tears of Heaven’ and the tickets were sold out within 5 minutes.

“Our Junsu” Xiah Junsu (Kim Junsu) will be the male lead Tod for ‘Elisabeth’ that is opening next February 9th. When we met on the 27th in a cafe at Seoul’s Jeong-dong, Jong-gu, his seemingly thin frame made others curious about the charm that made his noona fans lost their mind over this 25 year-old young adult. He reached 8 minutes later of scheduled time and lowered his head, saying ‘sorry’. His sincerity about punctuality during the practice sessions was complimented by many.

– Your ticket selling power was compared with ‘Musical Sage’ Cho Seung Woo. How do you feel about it?

“It’s really crazy. Please don’t do this. Isn’t Seung Woo hyung the best in musical industry? Although I am thankful, it’s best not to compare with me who is only just about to start my 3rd musical work. If the comparison was made after I acted in more than ten musicals, probably I wouldn’t be wanting to hide away (like now).”

– When you debuted in musical, nobody expected Xiah Junsu to be such successful. Personally, what is the reason behind your success?

“When I received the musical proposal, I did not sleep well for a week. Because this is my first step after independency (from the previous company SM Entertainment), thus I was very troubled. I did heard of discrimination against idols in musical industry too. However, other than me myself, nobody can protect me. Moreover there’s no existence of protective barrier at all. I am very clear about it.”

– The part where you worked hard due to your status as an idol?

“Being an idol is a double-sided blade. Although you are able to easily attained the lead and received the limelight but there’s the enormous hinder. Due to the performance in musical and overcame the obstacle and learnt about life. ‘In this world, having a dream will need to accept the woes as well’, whenever I am listening to the songs in Mozart, I would cry a lot inside me. As an artiste and to face the public judgement, the pressure is huge, and he (musical/Mozart) speak it out for me.”

– Other than the songs in musical, there were a lot of elements added in, which is your favourite?

“When I first stood on the musical stage, I crazily felt that it’s embarrassing. After I have done it, the joy that it brought me was totally different from a concert. In the two hours on stage, I am not idol Xiah Junsu but as someone else. I like this point a lot.”

In July 2009, after the successful injunction filed by him and two other TVXQ members towards SM Entertainment due to unfair contract length and income etc, they emerged as JYJ. However after that, as singers, JYJ are unable to appear on national broadcasting companies. In the one hour, he has been friendly answering everything, however he paused for a while towards such an inquiry.

“One can’t live (in the past). Have to keep holding on and rough it out. I had the thinking that I have to work even harder. To be able to do what we want, I think this is the happiest to us (JYJ).”

– Many teens dreamt to be the next Xiah Junsu?

“I would not be an artiste in my next life. (He repeated this thrice) Of course as of now, I have no regrets in my life. It is very happy to receive love and concern. But after I passed the audition when I was 15, I have never been in my relaxed mode the minute I went out the door. I have never been to Lotte World either. Sometimes I do felt that I’ve wasted it. It is very tough to be receiving provoking comments from others too. However I have to admit that it’s normal to have losses in life and to understand the surroundings and into thankfulness.”

With regards to new work ‘Elisabeth’, “Working with (Ryu) Jung Han hyung who also acted as Tod, (Song) Chang ui and Kim Sun Young noona and Ock Joo Hyun noona who acted as Elisabeth, is the biggest subject (to learn).” “Recently I am only listening to music from musicals. I would like to try choosing works for small-scaled musicals.”

[INTERVIEW] 120129 Kim Junsu – Attracted To The Role of The Transcendental “Death”

[INTERVIEW] 120129 Kim Junsu – Attracted To The Role Of The Transcendental “Death”

Musical “Elisabeth” Kim Junsu
Open from Feb. 9 at Blue Square Samsung Electronics Hall

In 2010, Kim Junsu has already experienced the musical “Elisabeth”. In the musical proposed by composer Sylvester Levay “Kim Junsu Musical Concert – Levay With Friends”, he has already performed most of the songs in the musical “Mozart”. However, it is revealed that “Elisabeth” will have six major songs.

Junsu personally performed ‘Death (Tod)’’s two songs, which were ‘When I Feel Like Dancing” and “Last Dance”. His greed rose as he sang the songs. During that time, it was not confirmed that the musical would premiere in South Korea but he had already set his eyes on the role of “Death”.

“Elisabeth” is the most successful German-language musical ever since it started in Vienna 20 years ago in 1992. It will finally premiere in South Korea this coming Feb. 9 at Hannam-dong’s Blue Square Samung Electronics Hall. Of course, Kim Junsu will play the role of the alluring fantasy being “Death” who stays besides the ill-fated Habsburg Empress “Elisabeth” constantly.

“Although they are all actors, I am a singer so I think that it is more important to select songs than choosing play. Even though I already know that it is a good musical, it will be more touching if I get to sing it personally. Also, the role of “Death” itself is not a person, but an imaginery transcendental existence. The role itself is charming. Adding a twist in Elisabeth’s life using the fantasy character “Death” in the musical, I think that Michael Kunze is really an outstanding person.”

Even so, Junsu did not accept the role without hesitation. He thinks that the role of “Death” should have substance. As there will be a triple cast of Ryu Jung-han and Song Chang-Ee, he is worried that he will be lacking in substance due to his age and experience in musicals.

“I hesitated and questioned myself, ‘Who will give substance to this role?’ When I heard that, I think I should take the role. My self-confidence increased when I think that I can express the role well.”

Interpreting the sweet temptation of Elisabeth’s longing for freedom

Mobilising the country’s best musical actors for the premiere

Junsu thinks that the role of “Death” in the musical is sweet. To Elisabeth who longs for freedom, her life in the imperial family is a tragic one and death gives her the sweet temptation of rest and peacefulness.

“There is no answer to death. Nobody has feel and experience it before. I think that to Elisabeth, experiencing the existence of death is sweet. The voice and music will be dark, but I have to express a slight sweetness in my role.”

From his debut musical “Mozart”, “Tears of Heaven” to “Elisabeth”, Junsu always takes the lead role in South Korea’s musical premieres. Although it is a great risk for the producer, he believes in the growth potential of Junsu who only has a year of experience in musicals.

“Even though I have no plans, I think that I was given a good opportunity. To me, the image of the actor in the premiere becomes the image of the Korean actor. Although there is a burden, I think that I have to do well since I have accepted the role. It will be good if I can show the other sides of myself, which I did not show in the previous two musicals. To a musical actor, this musical gives me a chance to develop my skills.”

JYJ’s schedule is tight, but Junsu always thinks that he is lacking as a musical actor, hence he constantly listens to musical music and watches musicals in his spare time.

“This play mobilises the best musical actors in the country. It is Elisabeth’s strength. It will be fine if I do well. I was worried about my voice when portraying the transcendental existence in this play. I have paid a lot of attention to details like expression and hand and body movements.

Besides Kim Junsu, the cast of the musical “Elisabeth” includes Ok Ju-hyun, Kim Sun-young and Park Eun Tae.

[Trans] 120130 JYJ’s Documentary, QTV Followed By A Screening Misfire From CGV– Why?

The screening of JYJ’s (Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu) documentary has suddenly been cancelled.
The documentary that was filmed at QTV was not aired on broadcast, and so JYJ’s management, CJES, announced that a documentary titled “A Day” would be screened on February 9th.

JYJ had begun holding meetings to discuss details with CGV since December 15th, and their second meeting was on January 16th where they discussed further details. On the 19th, contract details were examined and on the 20th the contract was received. But it was after this day that CGV gave a sudden notice of cancellation by telephone.

JYJ management stated, “At that time, CGV said that the final authorization for the contract had not been given so they needed to initialize that. But on the 25th we received a notice that the contract had been cancelled.”

CGV management stated in this notice, “To the new managers, in regards to the process of briefing that we have conducted for the screening of “The Day”, internal reports and further progress have not been appropriately conducted according to the rules. Internally, to focus on the innovation of “The Day”, it has not been done well according to specific processes, and therefore due to strict regulations we have fallen into this kind of a difficult situation.

JYJ’s management stated, “The business people that own the channel and are abusing their position, CJES will be taking action against CGV for this sudden one sided breaking of a contract through the Fair Trade Commision by filing a complaint to the committee of grievances and complaints.” They added, “For this situation that CGV has created that we don’t understand, we demand for a viable answer.”

[TRANS] 120126 C-JeS States, “Booked For Violating The Ships Safety Act? It Was Only A Referential Questioning

It has been found that JYJ’s Park Yoochun was questioned as a reference with regards to a violation against the Ships Safety Act.

Through a phone conversation with Issue Daily on the 26th of January, a representative of Park Yoochun’s agency explained, “The commissioned business that was put in charge of Park Yoochun’s yacht is currently being investigated because they irresponsibly did not fulfill their contract and thus missed the deadline for their safety management inspection,” and “Park Yoochun was only questioned as a reference as he is the owner of the yacht and he has no direct association with the current issue at hand.“

A representative of the Korean Coast Guards’ South Regional Headquarters also stated, “An article was released with information that even we didn’t know. We will be sure to make an inquiry to YTN to find out what channel this article was released through.”

Today, YTN made a false report that Park Yoochun was booked by the Korean Coast Guard’s South Regional Headquarters for violating the Ships Safety Act by not holding a safety management inspection for his yacht.
