[TRANS] 120105 JYJ Are Chosen As KBS’ ’2011 Icon Of The Year’

Idol group JYJ (Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu) are beginning the year with a great start.

JYJ came out on top in the idol section of KBS’ ’2011 Icon of the Year’ Awards, chosen through votes by netizens, and were given their award and a small gift on the 5th.

JYJ, who were receiving an award as a group for the first time in a while, stated, “It feels like our fans have given us a big New Year’s present. We’re really happy to have received such a meaningful award as JYJ and this award is more precious than any other,” and “We’ll repay this gift with even greater music than before.”

Last year, JYJ held solo concerts in Spain and Germany and were successful in their individual activities in the drama and acting industries.

Kim Jaejoong was awarded the New Star Award at the SBS Drama Awards and held a solo fanmeet in China. Park Yoochun won the Best Newcomer Award at the MBC Drama Awards and Kim Junsu will be performing in the musical ‘Elisabeth’ from February.

The group will begin their overseas activities again in March. They will be the first Korean idol group to hold a solo concert in Chile and Peru on the 9th and 11th of March respectively.

Pictures, which compare male idol stars’ appearances, were recently released and drew a lot of attention.

On January 3, an online community posted pictures with the caption, “Average appearance of male idol stars.” Each of the thirteen pictures represents each boy group’s appearance. A person, who uploaded the pictures, compounded the members’ faces of each group.

Pictures of Big Bang, 2PM, and FT Island look like the members of each group: Seungri, Jang Woo Young, and Lee Hong Ki.

People responded: “JYJ looks so handsome.” “This is why they are idol stars. The average appearances look handsome as well.” “The person who compounded thirteen members of Super Junior must have worked hard.”

JYJ will travel to South America. Their entertainment company, CJES, announced their 3 day schedule, “JYJ will hold a concert in Chile on March 9th, followed by a concert in Peru on the 11th.” Until now, JYJ is the 1st Korean group to hold concerts in these countries, showing the financial power of their entertainment company to hold solo concerts.

On March 9th, their concert will take place in Santiago (the capital of Chile) in TEATRO CAUPOLICAN, this place is where the legendary Korn and X-Japan have held concerts. On the 11th, their concert will take place in Lima (the capital of Peru) in Explanada Sur del Estadio Monumental stadium, this was were Britney Spears, Black Eyed Peas, and Avril have held their concerts, it is the 2nd largest football stadium in Latin America.

JYJ’s South America organizers said “Currently in the South American countries, JYJ has a popularity at a whole different level compared with other k-pop artists,” and added “even though local artists and artists from U.S. have a presence in Latin America, but JYJ always held a enthusiastic support of the younger people. In the period between 2010 and 2011 of their worldwide showcase, many South American fans attended their concerts in the United States in LA and other cities. Many fans also attended their recent concerts in Europe. Now that the concerts will finally be held in Latin America, we will gain the satisfaction of fans, and will be well prepared for this concert for the enthusiastic fans.”

In Chile and Peru, JYJ’s popularity is beyond expectation. Chile fans recently uploaded a video on youtube to invite JYJ to hold a concert in Chile. JYJ has appeared in Billboard Top Pop. In 2011 Kim Jaejoong was selected as the world’s sexiest man in a Peru magazine.

On 28 December, The “Kim Junsu” School, which took 5 months to build was announced to be open.

This school has 6 classrooms, a washroom, and a clean water provision system. The village (that the school is in) has a population of 1,500 people, and is far away from the city, 3 hours away by car from the capital city. It’s economic and hygiene infrastructures are not well developed, and is one of the poorest areas in the country.

Junsu’s mother Yoon Young Mi had come to this village together with a volunteer group, and asked them what they needed to most. Without hesitation, they said that their children needed a school. When Junsu found out about this, the plan to build a school was set up, and also involved the locals.

500 students and their parents attended the opening ceremony, as well as local officials. The new students also put up an adorable performance to show their gratitude. Junsu’s mother said that she hope they can call this school the “Xiah Junsu Evergreen School” so that the students can maintain a fresh and green dreams for their future, and hopes that they can become future leaders when they grow up.

As Kim Junsu is currently involved in the preparations for his new musical “Elisabeth,” he was unable to participate in this event, but he said that via a video that “Next time, I will come to visit every one and sing songs with everybody, and I want to play soccer too,” in his greeting.

This town has also built a gate called the “Kim Junsu Supported Village” at the entrance of the town, to show their gratitude towards everything that Kim Junsu has done.

Group JYJ has been voted as the number 1 Best Idol Star of the year by netizens.

In the “2011 Best Icon Awards”  that was held on the KBS homepage from 8 Dec till the noon of 28 December, JYJ emerged as number 1 in the “Best Idol Star Category”, a proof of their popularity.

This voting saw 4 categories, “Best Idol Star”, “Best Segment Of Gag Concert”, “Best Casting In A KBS Drama” and “Mission With The Highest Qualifications Of A Male”.

JYJ, with a total of 58,357 votes, beat Lee Seung Gi (53,560 votes), to emerge as the “Best Idol Star“. Much attention was focused on this intense competition between the “Nation’s Younger Brother” Lee Seung Gi and JYJ, with the latter coming out on top.

After bringing their world tour to the United States, South Korea, Canada, Europe, Japan, Singapore, China, Taiwan and various other countries in Asia, JYJ is planning to add stops to their world tour in 2012 to South America.

On December 29th, an official from C-JeS said, “We are currently in the final stages of scheduling JYJ’s concert tour in South America.” The official adds that the stops to South America will most likely take place between late February and early March.

However, the cities in which JYJ will hold their concert has yet to be finalized and they will be revealed after everything has been concluded as there are still discussions taking place.

JYJ are carrying on a campaign to prevent painkiller misuse.

On December 27, Chong Kun Dang, a pharmaceutical company, announced that it will carry on a nationwide campaign for the prevention of painkiller misuse for three months from January next year.

JYJ have been working as models for Penzal Q, a painkiller brand of Chong Kun Dang, and loved by many teens and women in their 20s and 30s.

As the first part of the campaign, Penzal Q is carrying an ad for the prevention of painkiller misuse campaign with JYJ (part 1) in a women’s magazine and report information about the right amount of dosage for painkillers according to the age.

A spokesperson of Penzal Q says, “The campaign for the prevention of painkiller misuse is to protect teens’ safety and health by encouraging them to keep the recommended amount of dosage and number for painkillers according to the age. We thought this campaign with JYJ would be working because JYJ are familiar to the general public.”

 JYJ has expressed their gratitude for their C-JeS Entertainment CEO Baek Chang Joo in the form of a hefty gift!

On December 26th, an industry insider revealed that the trio had presented the CEO with a foreign luxury sedan estimated to be worth over $300,000 USD.

A representative of JYJ revealed, “Last weekend, we held our year-end party. After finishing the meal, we went out to discover a luxury sedan parked outside. The members wanted to show their gratitude for his support by coming together and pooling money for a new car.”

JYJ’s decision to buy him a car came from the fact that the CEO did not yet have his own personal car. Seeing him work so hard for them without something to call his own had hurt the boys’ hearts.

The representative continued, “JYJ and CEO Baek have known each other for two years, and they’ve been like brothers ever since. I believe it was a present to commemorate the success of their world tour, as well as a celebration of Christmas and the New Year. Aside from the fact that it is an expensive present, their hearts are truly in this gift.”
