[News] 120714 MBC’s ‘Dr. Jin’ Extended Two Episodes

MBC’sDr. Jin‘ starring Song Seung Hun, Lee Bum Soo, and Kim Jaejoong has been extended by 2 more episodes.

A staff member at the drama said on July 12th, “We have decided to add two more episodes.  Although we started with a plan of just 20 episodes it seems that it will be hard to tie up the story so for the sake of creating a more complete story, we have decided to add the extra episodes.”  Dr. Jin is now scheduled to conclude in early August.

The actors have already shown a positive response to this idea.  Lee Bum Soo recently stated, “I hope it is 40 episodes and not 20.  It is too short for the viewers to follow the overall arc in just 20 episodes.“  Song Seung Hun said, “It is hard to show everything in just 20 episodes especially for a historical drama.

Even after the positive response from the actors, the staff was still worried on how the viewers would take the news that the show has been extended.  ‘Dr. Jin’ began airing on May 26th alongside SBS’sGentleman’s Class‘ with the plan of ending on July 29th.  A staff member said, “With the extension of our show, some people might think that we are trying to take the place of the number one show in our time slot, ‘Gentleman’s Class.’  But we never thought about the ratings when we made this decision.

Are you looking forward to the additional episodes?

[NEWS] 120705 ‘Dr. Jin’ Kim Jaejoong, Secret To Acting Is ‘Tearful Eyes’?

[NEWS] 120705 ‘Dr. Jin’ Kim Jaejoong, Secret To Acting Is ‘Tearful Eyes’?

He entered hurriedly. The man who apologized several times and sat down was actor Kim Jaejoong. He is the JYJ member who is acting as an upright military officer, Kim Kyung Tak in MBC’s Dr Jin.

In the afternoon of Jul. 5, a press conference for MBC’s Dr Jin was held in Iljuk-myeon, Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. Even though filming was behind schedule and Kim Jaejoong was about 30 minutes late, we could see his look as he answered questions in the remaining time.

Kim Jaejoong “Ji Sung? Jin Yi Han? I like the both of them… Are there any other questions?”

Comparing to the usual actor, the time that Kim Jaejoong has with a horse is as much as the time he acts as a military officer in the drama. Kim Jaejoong said, “There are about one or two horses. As I rode on the same horse continuously, I became fond of it.” Hence, there was a buzz that he even rode the horse during the break and showed warm-hearted affection for it. When asked about the charm of horse riding, he smiled and said, “When it is cold, I feel warm thanks to the body temperature of the horse. When it is hot, it is cooling because of the wind.”

On receiving favourable comments about his stable performance in his first historical drama challenge, Kim Jaejoong said shyly, “It’s all thanks to the screenwriter and director. I’ve watched all the JYJ members act and I think I’m still ranked the last in acting. Even though my acting ability is lacking, I think I can still concentrate on acting the character. The viewers seem to be able to understand the character well and I want to thank them.”

However, he also depended on the know-how. He said, “In the beginning of the drama, the director frequently told me to show sadness in my eyes even when I’m smiling. Recently, I’ve been keeping his advice in mind and I’m trying my best in portraying tearful eyes during sad scenes.”

Kim Jaejoong has also become closer to his actor colleagues and is enjoying himself during filming. Most notably, he is close to actor Jin Yi Han who acts as his close friend, Hong Yong Hwi in the drama. Kim Jaejoong said, “We are originally close to each other, but we’ve grown closer because there are many scenes where we’ve to appear together. Even though he is eight years older than me, he treats me comfortably like a friend and we contact each other often.”

When asked candidly to choose who does he like better – SBS’s Protect the Boss’s Ji Sung or Jin Yi Han, he evoked laughter from the audience by saying, “I like them both…This is a tricky question. Are there any other questions?”

Lee Bumsoo “I want to give Kim Jaejoong a high score in acting”

Kim Jaejoong’s senior actors have given him a pass for his acting ability. Actor Lee Bumsoo said, “He sincerely wants to express the scenes that he is given. To concentrate on reaching his goal, he watches the actor’s acting and reacts to it. I think this is how actors learn from each other. I want to give Kim Jaejoong a high score in acting.”

This was his reason – “When Kim Jaejoong-ssi acts, it’s nice to see how he ‘feels’. He acts with his sincere feelings. He tries hard to convey [the character’s feelings] and focus on it.” Lee Bumsoo said, “It is good to see him concentrating and working hard to convey the feelings. I look forward to the scenes we have together.”

Lee Bumsoo said, “Kim Jaejoong’s fans expressed their dismay that if the number of fans I have increases, the number of Kim Kyung Tak’s fans will decrease. I want to let them know that the number of fans I have has nothing to do with the number of Kim Jaejoong’s fans.” The people in the hall laughed. Kim Jaejoong replied tactfully, “I want to say that the number of fans that I have is unrelated to Lee Bumsoo sunbae’s number of fans.”

Lastly, Kim Jaejoong expressed his resolution to finish filming the remaining episodes of Dr Jin. He said, “Kim Kyung Tak may be a heart-wrenching and foolish character to viewers, but he’s only trying to protect his own belief. I think you’ll see his pain if you only look at the surrounding situation.” He also asked for the viewers’ interest and said, “During the times when he is protecting his belief, instead of feeling sad for Kyung Tak, believe that he’ll become stronger.”

120702 [Dr. Jin Episode 12] Commentary–Now We’re Getting Somewhere

Hurrah and Hurrah!!!  Kim Kyung Tak and Hong Young Rae are finally alone together!!

Why is this important? Mainly because even though Kim Kyung Tak has been in love with Hong Young Rae for years–she has yet to make an effort to understand her man. Yes, her man!  I believe that they are going to be given a chance to get to know one another a little better. Maybe not by much–but enough to help Young Rae to see beyond his military air into his heart which is breaking… His friendship with Hong Young Hwi is close and enduring beyond political boundaries. I say this because I truly do not believe that Hong Young Hwi is dead. Yes, he was shot, and we watched him fall. Yet there was no noticeable splash into the river, and it was the typical peek over the ledge see no body that was used in Episode One.  O.K. O.K. I’ll lighten up.

Dr. Jin needs to get back to his 2012 lady love and no one knows it better than himself. So…he is trying to right the course of history and in that original course I personally do not believe that Hong Young Hwi dies in this way.

Anyway, back to the two estranged lovers. Somehow I believe that Hong Young Rae can soften the “Le Miserables” type character of Kim Kyung Tak. [This is my literary reference–I am occidental]. After all, he is so smitten that he will probably listen just to be with her. On his side, this gives him opportunity to talk about those things important to him. They both are grieving the ‘death’ of Hong Young Hwi. if the writers will allow them some time now or in the near future–I believe that they may be able to pull it together.

Our own Kim Jaejoong is doing a marvelous acting job as Kim Kyung Tak, and all of the cast is exemplary. My only protest–stop kicking Jaejoong!!!  😮

[NEWS] 120625 Dr Jin, Kim Jaejoong “Kim Kyung Tak’s Outcry, The Saddest Scene”

[NEWS] 120625 Dr Jin, Kim Jaejoong “Kim Kyung Tak’s Outcry, The Saddest Scene”

Viewers consoled Dr Jin’s Kim Jaejoong.

Netizens began ‘Save Kim Kyung Tak’ to console Kim Kyung Tak who seemed to have nothing after even losing his close friend in MBC’s weekend drama Dr Jin episode 10 shown on Jun 24.

Since he received news that Hong Yong Rae has called of the wedding, Kim Kyung Tak has shut his heart in despair and anger and became absorbed in capturing anonymous members from a secret organization. On the day of the banquet, he discovered and chased the ringleader who was planning to assassinate his father who was also the vice premier, Kim Byung Hee.

In a tense moment, Kim Kyung Tak sliced the mask off and exposed the face of the ringleader – Hong Yong Hwi who happened to be Yong Rae’s brother and his close friend. The shocked Kyung Tak could not bear to shoot Yong Rae who was running away, so he shot it towards the sky and wailed.

Kim Kyung Tak could not marry Hong Yong Rae whom he has been waiting for 20 years and he lost his close friend. Netizens responded, “Make Time Slip Kim Kyung Tak, summon Kyung Tak to 2012”, “Even taking away the only thing that is left for him. This character is ridiculous”, “I would rather put Kyung Tak and Choon Hong as a couple. Poor Kyung Tak”.

Kim Jaejoong said, “Due to filming, I’ve yet to watch the scene that I have with Yong Hwi. This is the saddest scene so far. Let’s see if Kyung Tak has lost his reason to live or not. I hope you will watch it with love.”

120618 Dr.Jin: Thought–Provocating and Excellent

I intially wrote my thoughts about Dr. Jin in the early stages of this drama. Even though some do not appreciate the serious tone of this drama–it is an enlightening look at politics and medicine 150 years ago. This drama is not light in its approach or intent. It is a political statement on the climate and circumstances of the time-frame although with this writer’s interpretation of historical facts.  Adapted from a Japanese manga format–some elements have been changed but the underlying theme of the nobles against the commoners is there.

The following excerpt retrieved from the world wide web via Wikipedia states:

“Jin Hyuk is a gifted neurosurgeon who was born into a family of doctors. His success rate in surgery hovers at 100%, with his ability to quickly analyze any situation and extremely steady hands. Due to his personal pursuit of perfection, he has a cold attitude and lacks compassion. He is planning to propose to his beloved girlfriend Yoo Mi-na, when after an argument, Mi-na gets into an accident and lapses into a coma.

After surgically removing a fetus-shaped tumor from a patient’s brain, a mysterious power causes Jin Hyuk to travel 150 years back in time to the year 1860 during the Joseon Dynasty, when medical technology was still in its infant stages. He begins treating people of the era, but the lack of necessary implements and rudimentary medical knowledge of the period forces him to develop medical devices and medicine by himself, and seek new ways to aid the sick. Through this challenging process and with the help of young noblewoman Young-rae (who looks exactly like Mi-na), Jin Hyuk becomes a true doctor.”

Simply said–this drama is an adaptation of a compelling situation that reflects the changes that were occurring at this dawn of the modern era of medicine in the Oriental world. Of course, Dr. Jin would not have been there in reality so this is a what if? scenario that is unfolding.

I am fascinated by the professional acting that I see here, including Jaejoong’s interpretation of his role as a soldier caught between his family and his conscience. Prayerfully, the writer will allow this character to mature and to truly make a difference. His heart is not in his work, it is with Young-Rae.

You have to ask whether the original intent of Time Slip Dr.Jin was to express political opinions; to journal medical advances to come; or to simply explore time-travel and parallel universe theories. It is all three.  Either way, it is a fascinating story-line that I hope people will understand and continue to embrace. Where will this adaptation take the characters. “Time will tell’.

[News] 120612 The Cast of Dr.Jin Never Let Go of Script: “No Wonder They Are All Good At Portraying Characters

[News] 120612 The cast of Dr.Jin never let go of script: “No wonder they are all good at portraying characters

Lately, MBC’s TV series Dr.Jin has been receiving positive feedback from viewers day after another with its great storyline and spectacular scenes. The leading actors of the series show particular affection to the script.

On June 12, some behind-the-scenes cuts were revealed.

You can spot actors enthusiastically working on portraying their characters as they are completely absorbed in acting, not letting go of the script.

Because none of the cast has gotten caught up in a controversy over the lack of acting skills, Dr.Jin became very popular. Certainly, the cast who are affectionate toward the characters they play brought a high quality to the series with their love for the script.

Actor Song Seung Hun gradually builds his reputation through his role of a genius doctor of the 21st century who time-travels back in the Joseon Dynasty. Park Min Young plays a double role which goes back and forth the timeline. Although it is his first time acting in a historical drama, Kim Jae Joong shows great acting skills. They grab viewers’ attention at once because they are so absorbed in their roles.

In addition to the cast mentioned above, Lee Bum Soo who is dubbed “the god of acting” plays Lee Ha Eung, “the leader of Joseon.” His acting video clip without background music has already impressed numerous netizens and soon, he gained a nickname “genius acting.”

A staff member of the production crew says, “On the shooting set, you can easily spot actors who are constantly studying about their characters holding a script in their hand. Before and during the shooting, they communicate, study, and give their best with the director.”

With increasing viewer ratings thanks to the enthusiastic cast, MBC’s Dr.Jin broadcasts every Saturday and Sunday at 9:50 p.m.

Editors Note: A Year Has Passed Since The Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami

Japan’s earthquake and tsunami that rocked the world in 2011 doesn’t seem a full year ago does it? The tsunami still seems close because there are so many reminders around that it actually occurred. There are nuclear summit talks, charity events for victims, and rebuilding of stricken areas as an ongoing project. The tsunami will figure forever in the saga of JYJ’s struggle to stay above the water and to conquer the water through 2011. Not only did the tsunami aftermath effects bow to the concerted efforts of people around the world–but the industry that has tried and is still trying to drag JYJ down has had to bow to the ultimate realization that they are survivors. This is partly due to the utter talent and tenacity of JYJ, and the ingenuity and tenacity of JYJ’s true fans.

It is so easy to sing and dance along with a thriving group like TVXQ was before 2010. It takes more courage to survive a splintered group situation with your heart and loyalties intact. I am happy and proud to say that not only have we survived, but there are those of us who have enough love, passion, and compassion in our hearts to still embrace all five of these truly special young men.

The tsunami taught the world how to give and pull together to rebuild and rethink a way of living. The split of TVXQ has prayerfully taught the world how to acknowledge, evaluate, and start to restructure the entertainment industry.

Dear Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu. Please do not ever regret doing what you felt was necessary for your own happiness but also for the happiness of others. Yunho and Changmin–do not ever regret doing what you considered to be the best for you. We may not ever fully understand what happened, but the important thing is to forge ahead and make a history that may someday converge onto a path that includes all five once again. Until then, and because there is a hope of then, we keep Fighting and Keeping the Faith!!
