[PROJECT] Masterchef Kim Jaejoong

[PROJECT] Masterchef Kim Jaejoong

Written by melodiamuse

*walks in chanting “We are here, we are here, we are here!”… and a nice little “YOP” too, just to be on the safe side ;)*

Hey everyone! The ninjas of DBD are back to celebrate another member’s birthday! And this little celebration is for none other than…. *drumroll* the amazing, awesometastic, out of this world tweet monster (who sometimes drives us up a wall with all the tweets he makes) Kim Jaejoong 😀

Instead of doing a contest like we always do, we’ve decided to do a project! Two of us were squeezing our brains out, tossing ideas for the perfect competition when ‘Ahhhh’ (This is the etheral, epiphany kind of ‘Ah’, not the ‘omg I am going to be mauled by a kapibara and its cuteness’ ‘Ah’) the idea hit us, what about a cookbook?

Kim Jaejoong is renowned for constantly feeding his fellow members and his love (and talent for that matter) for cooking is quite infamous. So we thought, why not give him a special cookbook from his fans with recipes from all over the world?

It’s quite simple, all you need to do is submit a recipe that you have either eaten or cooked (or both!) before. It can’t be some random fancy shmancy recipe you find online; we want them to be straight from your hearts and your homes.

When you submit your e-mail, please include the following:
1. Name of the dish
2. Ingredients and measurements
3. Cooking time
4. Servings
5. A photo of the finished dish
6. A recipe (as in, all the steps you need to take to make the dish)
7. A short description of the dish (i.e. what region it comes from, the characteristics flavors, or maybe even a funny short anecdote, maximum four lines please)
8. Your name
9. The name of the country you currently reside in
10. What country this dish comes from (you can write ‘fusion’ if it’s a mix)
11. Cover page design (optional – please submit as an attachment)

*The cover page design option is a chance to have your design on the cover of our cookbook. We don’t have exact dimensions or a final title yet, so use a filler title and whatever dimensions you would like (we can adjust it later).

Keep in mind that some of the ingredients you might use may not be available in Korea, if you think some of the ingredients (like spices) are grown only in your region, please leave a little note for us or even better, tell us what can be substituted instead and still have that same flavor.

We’ll be translating all the recipes from English to Korean (because… let’s face it, English is still a bit of a hurdle for our Google Translate-using boy♥), putting it all in a cookbook and personally delivering it to Crebeau-Jeff.

We do apologize in advance for the possibility that we may not be able to use all of your lovely recipes (since some may overlap or we may get too many) but we’ll try our best! If we do unfortunately come to the situation where we can’t put all you recipes in the book, we’ll put them all on a usb and deliver that along with it.

You have from today (January 26th) till February 9th to submit your name, country, email & recipe name as a comment on this post and till the 26th of February to submit the actual recipe (in the format above) to tohosuperu@gmail.com.

We don’t know how long it’ll take for us to complete the book but we’re aiming for April around our first anniversary \o/

Donations

Also, if you’d like to donate to the project, we would greatly appreciate that. It could help produce a final product of a higher quality or get all your recipes into the book since book printing is quite pricey, and we’re not the richest people in the fandom (sad, sad little fact ;A;)

If you would like to contribute to this “cookbook fund”, our paypal email address is tohosuperu@gmail.com, and any amount is welcome!! Accounting for this will be very transparent, of course 🙂 We are very transparent people. So transparent, you can’t even see us. It’s part of our ninja powers. *gets carried away*

So spread the word and get cooking!

120105 Personal Note

It is getting more and prevalent to see fraud of this type appearing not only in the headlines but also in our personal lives. There are some who view society as a means of obtaining a living at the expense of others. Sadly, this may happen again, but I am grateful that this was caught before more damage was done and I am sure that JYJ and C-Jes are thinking the same.

111226 Momma Cha Commiserates with Jaejoong at Christmas

Dear Jaejoong,

You are the only person I know who could manage to garner sympathy for your lonely Christmas Day, give us a beautiful glimpse of your home’s interior, and show us that adorable collection of elephants–all in the same post.  However, with the world and our lives being so busy, you really got a precious gift–time to yourself.

Trouble is–most young people do not see time spent with yourself as a gift because the concentration is on how lonely it is, and you are desiring someone to help you to enjoy that time. That is understandable, but look at it this way. When you are by yourself you get to command the ship. You get to choose your own pursuits, unimpeded by other’s ideas of how to spend the day. You can get up or lie in bed; walk around in a torn T-shirt and a pair of sweats or dress to the nines and hold your own private fashion show. You can choose to read a good book or cook yourself a special meal.

O.K. Why am I waxing eloquent on this?  I guess it is because when you are constantly around other people (and I am) having some time to yourself can prove to be a wonderful change. It doesn’t negate the love in you for other’s, it simply points out that occasionally we must also learn to love and take time for ourselves.

Someday you will have that special someone by your side, and thoughts of being alone on Christmas will be in the past. The family will grow and your committments to others will grow and one day you will find yourself feeling guilty because you desire some alone time. Don’t go there, it is as natural as breathing to desire to have time to be yourself. Yet, I will concede,Jaejoong. It is also natural to desire company on such a momentous day as Christmas. Seek it out, as you did–you knew that we were there, and that you weren’t truly alone.

Loving you at Christmas,  Momma Cha @jyjfantalk.com

111215 Happy 25th Birthday To Kim Junsu from Momma Cha

Hi Junsu.

You may never see this post, but it is my desire to express to you how much I appreciate you on your birthday. What is it about you that endears you to my heart like a family member? There are many things–the way that you laugh for one. Your laughter is so contagious, and I love to watch it start in your eyes and travel through your entire body. You make me laugh with you, and there are times when I truly need a good laugh.

I love to hear you sing. Yes, you’ve heard this before, but believe me June, your singing is  unique. Your vocal tones range from piano to forte; from legato to tinny. Yes, you can be tinny, but it is such a wonderful sound that it can capture my attention in the midst of all the other voices on the palette. I really cannot describe your vocals fully with the musical vocabulary that I possess. I can only close my eyes and let them play.

I enjoy the athletic side of you. You are a wonderful dancer. I am a person who loves to move and dance; take a hike –or at least a good, long walk. I was so thrilled to realize that you and the members had climbed the mountain. I want you to take care of yourself, but part of that is staying physically fit. I didn’t have an interest in soccer until I became aware of your team. Now it is something to watch and pursue.

I simply love your “humanitarianism”   🙂  You were describing your red-faced demeanor while gaming, but I define your ‘humanitarianism’ as helping others less fortunate than yourself–whether it is building houses for needy families to planting trees et al. One of my favorite pictures of you is the “Happy Energy” picture. The smile in your eyes seems to reach out from your soul. I know that some of the charities that you participate in are joint ventures, but I see the tender part of your spirit that desires to give. Adoption is a part of you.

I love the fact that you still cling to church and family. Family is so important in life, and when you possess a wonderful family such your own I ask you to treasure it with all of your heart. Church is also important because it is a place of sanctuary from all of the evil, mean things that life can throw at you. It is somewhere to go where you know that you will be loved and nurtured.

Last, but not least, I admire you as an actor. You have enormous potential in this field, especially stage acting. You have always been able to command a stage, and you have the ability to separate yourself from the role once you exit the stage. Choose your roles wisely and you will secure a future for yourself and your posterity.

Happy Birthday Junsu. I pray that you will have so many more wonderful celebrations. You are a private individual, and I thank you for those parts of you that you choose to reveal to us. That is our gift from You on this Christmas Season. Merry Christmas and Have a Wonderful New Year.

Although going to other countries to sing is a happy thing, but to be able to go to a city and enjoy it thoroughly is an even happier matter. Having such a holiday, and bringing back stories is moving, and leaves a lasting impression despite not being there myself.

Opening their hearts and embracing the culture presented before them, and looking at their expressions of true enjoyment makes one think that this vacation is definitely one that will stay in their memories for a long time. Just by looking at these memories of theirs makes me blessed.

Editors Note on Winter

Winter Rose [roses in winter are more my style]

Truth to tell, winter is not my favorite season of the year. I do not like to be cold, ever. We just got our first legitimate, sticking to the roads snowstorm of the season. This has been a landmark year for extreme weather, and it looks as if the weather is holding on to its reputation through December. At one point in time I would have thought it unusual to see so much diversity, but it is becoming commonplace to hear of wind storms, flooding, and power outages. This is scary because it is becoming a way of life.

Please continue to pray for Thailand, Japan, Haiti, The Americas, Australia, et al. Do you see what I mean–so many hurting areas. We can help each other by donating to worthy causes this Christmas season. I am realizing that the true meaning of Christmas, the giving that impacts hurting lives, is being lost in the hustle and bustle of Xmas.

111201 Horses Could Soon Be Slaughtered For Meat in US

Horses Could Soon Be Slaughtered For Meat in US

By JUSTIN JUOZAPAVICIUS | AP – 20 hrs ago

I guess it’s opinion morning, but this is one area in which I have a sensitive spot. Three animals are not in my menu plan–dogs, horses, and cats. I realize that this is a cultural mindset, Americans generally do not eat these animals on a regular basis.  I also realize that horses are large muscle animals, so there is a lot of meat per pound per animal, and, in the past under duress, horses have been eaten in America. According to this article, the meat is targeted for overseas consumption–France, Japan, Europe, and other Asian countries. I guess in theory I can’t argue–it is quality protein. However, when I think about the horses who personally give me joy, I have a hard time imagining them on someone’s dinner table.  Momma Cha

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Horses could soon be butchered in the U.S. for human consumption after Congress quietly lifted a 5-year-old ban on funding horse meat inspections, and activists say slaughterhouses could be up and running in as little as a month.

Slaughter opponents pushed a measure cutting off funding for horse meat inspections through Congress in 2006 after other efforts to pass outright bans on horse slaughter failed in previous years. Congress lifted the ban in a spending bill President Barack Obama signed into law Nov. 18 to keep the government afloat until mid-December.

It did not, however, allocate any new money to pay for horse meat inspections, which opponents claim could cost taxpayers $3 million to $5 million a year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture would have to find the money in its existing budget, which is expected to see more cuts this year as Congress and the White House aim to trim federal spending.

The USDA issued a statement Tuesday saying there are no slaughterhouses in the U.S. that butcher horses for human consumption now, but if one were to open, it would conduct inspections to make sure federal laws were being followed. USDA spokesman Neil Gaffney declined to answer questions beyond what was in the statement.

The last U.S. slaughterhouse that butchered horses closed in 2007 in Illinois, and animal welfare activists warned of massive public outcry in any town where a slaughterhouse may open.

“If plants open up in Oklahoma or Nebraska, you’ll see controversy, litigation, legislative action and basically a very inhospitable environment to operate,” predicted Wayne Pacelle, president and chief executive of The Humane Society of the United States. “Local opposition will emerge and you’ll have tremendous controversy over slaughtering Trigger and Mr. Ed.”

But pro-slaughter activists say the ban had unintended consequences, including an increase in neglect and the abandonment of horses, and that they are scrambling to get a plant going — possibly in Wyoming, North Dakota, Nebraska or Missouri. They estimate a slaughterhouse could open in 30 to 90 days with state approval and eventually as many as 200,000 horses a year could be slaughtered for human consumption. Most of the meat would be shipped to countries in Europe and Asia, including France and Japan.

Dave Duquette, president of the nonprofit, pro-slaughter group United Horsemen, said no state or site has been picked yet but he’s lined up plenty of investors who have expressed interest in financing a processing plant. While the last three slaughterhouses in the U.S. were owned by foreign companies, he said a new plant would be American-owned.

“I have personally probably five to 10 investors that I could call right now if I had a plant ready to go,” said Duquette, who lives in Hermiston, Ore. He added, “If one plant came open in two weeks, I’d have enough money to fund it. I’ve got people who will put up $100,000.”

Sue Wallis, a Wyoming state lawmaker who’s the group’s vice president, said ranchers used to be able to sell horses that were too old or unfit for work to slaughterhouses but now they have to ship them to butchers in Canada and Mexico, where they fetch less than half the price.

The federal ban devastated “an entire sector of animal agriculture for purely sentimental and romantic notions,” she said.

Although there are reports of Americans dining on horse meat a recently as the 1940s, the practice is virtually non-existent in this country, where the animals are treated as beloved pets and iconic symbols of the West.

Lawmakers in California and Illinois have banned the slaughter of horses for human consumption, and more than a dozen states tightly regulate the sale of horse meat.

Federal lawmakers’ lifting of the ban on funding for horse meat inspections came about in part because of the recession, which struck just as slaughtering stopped. A federal report issued in June found that local animal welfare organizations reported a spike in investigations for horse neglect and abandonment since 2007. In Colorado, for example, data showed that investigations for horse neglect and abuse increased more than 60 percent — from 975 in 2005 to almost 1,600 in 2009.

The report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office also determined that about 138,000 horses were transported to Canada and Mexico for slaughter in 2010, nearly the same number that were killed in the U.S. before the ban took effect in 2007. The U.S. has an estimated 9 million horses.

Cheri White Owl, founder of the nonprofit Horse Feathers Equine Rescue in Guthrie, Okla., said she’s seen more horse neglect during the recession. Her group is caring for 33 horses now and can’t accept more.

“A lot of the situation is due to the economy,” she said, “People deciding to pay their mortgage or keep their horse.”

But White Owl worries that if slaughterhouses open, owners will dump their unwanted animals there instead of looking for alternatives, such as animal sanctuaries.

Animal rights groups also argue that slaughtering is a messy, cruel process, and some say it would be kinder for owners to have their horses put to sleep by a veterinarian.

“Euthanasia has always been an option,” Pacelle said. But “if you acquire a horse, you should be a responsible owner and provide lifetime care.”

The fight over horse slaughtering has pitted lawmakers of the same party against each other.

Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., said the poor economy has resulted in “sad cases” of horse abandonment and neglect and lifting the ban will give Americans a shot at regaining lost jobs and making sure sick horses aren’t abandoned or mistreated.

But U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., is lobbying colleagues to permanently ban horse slaughter because he believes the process is inhumane.

“I am committed to doing everything in my power to prevent the resumption of horse slaughter and will force Congress to debate this important policy in an open, democratic manner at every opportunity,” he said in a statement.
