Kang Ho Dong‘s new variety show ‘Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education‘ is off to a good start as it debuted as #1 in its time slot, beating out ‘Incarnation‘.

AGB Nielsen Korea reported on April 10th that the 9th’s airing of KBS2‘s ‘Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education’ received a 6.2% viewer rating, which is a solid rating for this particular slot.

‘Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education’ stars Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Geun, Changmin, among others, and the premise of the show is that the stars go to different neighborhoods and compete against regular citizens. The first episode featured the MCs recruiting celebrities for their ping pong match against ordinary citizens.

SBS‘s ‘Incarnation’ that airs during the same time slot received a rating of 4.9%, which is a 2% drop from what it rated the previous week. This big drop allowed MBC‘s ‘PD Notebook‘ to rise above it with a 5.3% rating.

The first episode of ‘Our Neighborhood’s Masters of Variety and Sports’ will pit the team against a team in Sangdo-dong for a fierce battle of table tennis.

In the first episode ,which is set to air on the 9th of April on KBS 2TV, the team of Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Geun and Max Changmin will go against the Table Tennis Lovers team in Sangdo-dong, whose skills rival that of professional players

.Though the celebrity team’s skills are that of a beginner, they have only been given four days to prepare. This lead to the recruitment of Park Sung Ho, who is the captain of Korea’s celebrity table tennis team, Kim Byung Man and sports-dol Minho. Actor Jo Dal Hwan, the hidden ace of table tennis, was also called in.

The staff of the new variety show promised to grant the three MCs (Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Geun, Max Changmin) a wish if they won the match. Kang Ho Dong said, “I’ve never been tossed into the air in celebration before because I was a wrestler. I’ve always been jealous of other athletes for it,” and “If we win the table tennis match, I’d like for the viewers to toss us into the air as a celebratory gesture.”

(T/N: I know that JJ’s event is technically a “Mini Concert and Fanmeeting” but the article calls this event a concert for most part so I’m just going to go with it)

 

Idol group JYJ member Kim Jaejoong held his solo concert in Nanjing, China, and revealed that “I’ll probably get married at about 38.”

Jaejoong held his solo concert “Your, My and Mine in Nanjing”at Nanjing’s Olympic Sports Center on 6 March 2013.

On this day, through stages such as a mini-talk, quiz show and other exciting events, Jaejoong came closer to the hearts of his fans. When asked “When will you get married?” he replied “Around 38,” and also “Compared to someone who is too skinny, I prefer someone a little chubby” and received loud cheers from the fans.

Following that was the cooking corner, where Jaejoong made rabokki (Dukkbokki with ramen added to it) together with the fans, and then performed the song “Kiss B” which is found in his repackaged album. The final program in the fanmeeting was a paparazzi corner, revealing unpublished photos of Jaejoong and his unstoppable charms.

At the start of the mini-concert, Jaejoong appeared transformed as a rocker, as the passion continued to take over the hall. Jaejoong performed his first solo song to be revealed from his mini album “One Kiss” in a glamorous stage, then continued with songs from older singers such as “I Loved You”, “For You”, “Always Yours” and other rock ballads. He performed “I’ll Protect You” with the fans, and they showed their support for Jaejoong by singing along in perfect Korean as a group.

Jaejoong has been holding his Asia Tour starting with Ilsan in January, continuing with Thailand, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Nanjing and continuing with Taiwan on 13th April.

Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s First Female PM, Dead at 87

London (CNN) — Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, a towering figure in postwar British and world politics and the only woman to become British prime minister, has died at the age of 87.

She suffered a stroke Monday, her spokeswoman said. A British government source said she died at the Ritz Hotel in London.

Thatcher’s funeral will be at St. Paul’s Cathedral, with full military honors, followed by a private cremation, the British prime minister’s office announced.

Thatcher served from 1975 to 1990 as leader of the Conservative Party. She was called the “Iron Lady” for her personal and political toughness.

She retired from public life after a stroke in 2002 and suffered several strokes after that.

She made few public appearances in her final months, missing a reception marking her 85th birthday hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron in October 2010. She also skipped the July 2011 unveiling of a statue honoring her old friend Ronald Reagan in London.

In December 2012, she was hospitalized after a procedure to remove a growth in her bladder.

Thatcher made history

Thatcher won the nation’s top job only six years after declaring in a television interview, “I don’t think there will be a woman prime minister in my lifetime.”

During her time at the helm of the British government, she emphasized moral absolutism, nationalism, and the rights of the individual versus those of the state — famously declaring “There is no such thing as society” in 1987.

Nicknamed the “Iron Lady” by the Soviet press after a 1976 speech declaring that “the Russians are bent on world dominance,” Thatcher later enjoyed a close working relationship with U.S. President Reagan, with whom she shared similar conservative views.

But the British cold warrior played a key role in ending the conflict by giving her stamp of approval to Soviet Communist reformer Mikhail Gorbachev shortly before he came to power.

“I like Mr. Gorbachev. We can do business together,” she declared in December 1984, three months before he became Soviet leader.

Having been right about Gorbachev, Thatcher came down on the wrong side of history after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, arguing against the reunification of East and West Germany.

Allowing the countries created in the aftermath of World War II to merge would be destabilizing to the European status quo, and East Germany was not ready to become part of Western Europe, she insisted in January 1990.

“East Germany has been under Nazism or Communism since 1930. You are not going to go overnight to democratic structures and a freer market economy,” Thatcher insisted in a key interview, arguing that peace, security and stability “can only be achieved through our existing alliances negotiating with others internationally.”

West German leader Helmut Kohl was furious about the interview, seeing Thatcher as a “protector of Gobachev,” according to notes made that day by his close aide Horst Teltschik.

The two Germanies reunited by the end of that year.

A grocer’s daughter

Thatcher — born in October 1925 in the small eastern England market town of Grantham — came from a modest background, taking pride in being known as a grocer’s daughter. She studied chemistry at Oxford, but was involved in politics from a young age, giving her first political speech at 20, according to her official biography.

She was elected leader of the Conservative Party in 1975, when the party was in opposition.

She made history four years later, becoming prime minister when the Conservatives won the elections of 1979, the first of three election victories to which she led her party.

As British leader, Thatcher took a firm stance with the European Community — the forerunner of the European Union — demanding a rebate of money London contributed to Brussels.

Her positions on other issues, both domestic and foreign, were just as firm, and in one of her most famous phrases, she declared at a Conservative Party conference that she had no intention of changing her mind.

“To those waiting with bated breath for that favorite media catchphrase, the U-turn, I have only one thing to say: ‘You turn if you want to. The lady’s not for turning,'” she declared, to cheers from party members.

The United Kingdom fought a short, sharp war against Argentina over the Falklands Islands under Thatcher in 1982, responding with force when Buenos Aires laid claim to the islands.

Announcing that Britain had recaptured South Georgia Island from Argentina, Thatcher appealed to nationalist sentiments, advising the press: “Just rejoice at the news and congratulate our forces.”

A journalist shouted a question at her as she turned to go back into 10 Downing Street: “Are we going to war with Argentina, Mrs. Thatcher?”

She paused for an instant, then offered a single word: “Rejoice.”

Controversy over Falklands war

The conflict was not without controversy, even in Britain.

A British submarine sank Argentina’s only cruiser, the General Belgrano, in an encounter that left 358 Argentines dead. The sinking took place outside of Britain’s declared exclusion zone.

In her first term, Thatcher reduced or eliminated many government subsidies to business, a move that led to a sharp rise in unemployment. By 1986, unemployment had reached 3 million.

But Thatcher won landslide re-election in 1983 on the heels of the Falklands victory, her Conservative Party taking a majority of seats in parliament with 42% of the vote. Second-place Labour took nearly 28%, while the alliance that became the Liberal Democrats took just over 25%.

A year later, she escaped an IRA terrorist bombing at her hotel at the Conservative Party conference in Brighton.

She was re-elected in 1987 with a slightly reduced majority.

She was ultimately brought down, not by British voters, but by her own Conservative party.

Brought down by the poll tax

She was forced to resign in 1990 during an internal leadership struggle after she introduced a poll tax levied on community residents rather than property.

The unpopular tax led to rioting in the streets.

She married her husband, Denis Thatcher, a local businessman who ran his family’s firm before becoming an executive in the oil industry, in 1951 — a year after an unsuccessful run for Parliament. The couple had twins, Mark and Carol, in 1953.

She was elected to Parliament in 1959 and served in various positions, including education secretary, until her terms as prime minister.

Thatcher was awarded the U.S. Medal of Freedom by President George H. W. Bush in 1991, a year after she stepped down as prime minister. She was named Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven after leaving office.

She retired from public life after a stroke in 2002 and suffered several smaller strokes after that. Her husband died in June 2003.

Though her doctors advised against public speaking, a frail Thatcher attended Reagan’s 2004 funeral, saying in a prerecorded video that Reagan was “a great president, a great American, and a great man.”

“And I have lost a dear friend,” she said.

In the years that followed she encountered additional turmoil. In 2004, her son Mark was arrested in an investigation of an alleged
plot by mercenaries to overthrow the president of Equatorial Guinea in west Africa. He pleaded guilty in a South African court in 2005 to unwittingly bankrolling the plot.

SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea intensified threats of an imminent conflict against the United States and the South on Tuesday, warning foreigners to evacuate South Korea to avoid being dragged into a “merciless, sacred, retaliatory war”.

The North’s latest antagonistic message belied an atmosphere free of anxiety in the South Korean capital, where the city center was bustling with traffic and offices operated normally.

Pyongyang has shown no sign of preparing its 1.2 million-strong army for war, indicating the threat could be partly intended to bolster Kim Jong-un, 30, the third in his family to lead the reclusive country.

None of the embassies in Seoul appeared to have issued any directives to their nationals after the warning and airlines reported no changes in their schedules. Schools catering to foreign pupils worked without interruption.

The warning, read out on North Korea’s state television in a bulletin that interrupted normal programming, was the latest threat in weeks of high tension following U.N. sanctions slapped on Pyongyang for its latest nuclear arms test.

It followed the North’s suspension of activity at the Kaesong joint industrial park just inside North Korea, all but closing down the last remnant of cooperation between the neighbors. North Korean workers failed to turn up on Tuesday.

North Korea had said South Korea was trying to turn the Kaesong complex into a “hotbed of war”.

The warning to foreigners, reported by the KCNA news agency said once war broke out “it will be an all-out war, a merciless, sacred, retaliatory war to be waged by (North Korea).

“It does not want to see foreigners in South Korea fall victim to the war,” the agency quoted the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee as saying.

“The committee informs all foreign institutions and enterprises and foreigners, including tourists…that they are requested to take measures for shelter and evacuation in advance for their safety.”

Last week, North Korean authorities advised embassies in Pyongyang to consider pulling out in case of war, though none appeared to have taken any such action.

SPECULATION OVER MISSILE LAUNCH, NUCLEAR TEST

Speculation has grown that the North would launch some sort of provocative action this week — perhaps a missile launch or a fresh nuclear weapons test.

A government source in Seoul said a North Korean medium-range missile, reported to have been shunted to the east coast, had been tracked and was believed to be ready for launch.

“Technically, they can launch it as early as tomorrow,” the source said.

But a U.S. embassy official in Seoul said a directive issued last week saying there was no imminent threat to Americans in South Korea remained valid. “Our workers are in all our offices today,” he said. “We have not evacuated anyone.”

A Philippine foreign ministry spokesman quoted diplomats at its Seoul embassy as saying the situation “remains normal and calm”.

Stocks, which had fallen 4 percent over the past four days, edged higher on Tuesday despite the warning to foreigners. The won currency moved little, dipping slightly after the North Korean statement.

Employers at the Kaesong complex faced uncertainty as the 53,000-strong North Korean workforce stayed away. A spokesman for textile company Taekwang Industrial and at least two other firms said production had stopped.

About 475 South Korean workers and factory managers remain in Kaesong, which generates $2 billion in trade for the impoverished North. The Seoul government said 77 would return on Tuesday.

North Korean workers at the park have appeared increasingly agitated in recent days, refusing to talk to their colleagues.

Many Southerners connected with the park bedded down at budget hotels in a nearby South Korean town in the hope that an order would come from the North to re-open.

“I have been feeling anxious now and then. Now it’s really preposterous facing this,” said Shing Dong-chul, 55, a South Korean worker who transports wire made in Kaesong.

“North Korean workers didn’t talk a lot, but they appeared to have complaints about Kaesong being closed. They worried whether they would be working or not.”

Addressing a cabinet meeting, South Korean President Park Geun-hye described the suspension of Kaesong as “very disappointing” and said investors would now shun the North.

Few experts had expected Pyongyang to jeopardize Kaesong, which employs more than 50,000 North Koreans making household goods for 123 South Korean firms.

LAST VESTIGE

The zone is practically the last vestige of the “Sunshine Policy” of rapprochement between the two Koreas and a powerful symbol that the divided country could one day reunify.

South Korean companies are estimated to have invested around $500 million in the park since 2004.

World leaders have expressed alarm at the crisis and the prospect of a conflict involving a country claiming to be developing nuclear weapons.

China, the North’s sole diplomatic and financial ally, issued a new call for calm and restraint, though Beijing’s leaders have shown increasing impatience with Pyongyang.

“We ask all the relevant sides to bear in mind regional peace and stability and earnestly protect the legal rights and safety of citizens,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a briefing.

A Russian foreign ministry spokesman, in a statement on the ministry’s website, said Moscow was in solidarity with all G8 industrialized countries “as regards the rejection of Pyongyang’s current provocative and bellicose line of conduct”.

The North is also angry at weeks of joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises off the coast of the peninsula, with B-2 stealth bombers dispatched from their U.S. bases.

But the United States announced the postponement last weekend of a long-planned missile launch, a move officials said was aimed at easing tensions on the peninsula.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry visits Seoul this week and the North holds celebrations, and possibly military demonstrations, next Monday to mark the birth date of its founder, Kim Il-Sung – the current leader’s grandfather.

In Washington, U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter urged China to use its influence with the North and said Moscow wanted similar action from Beijing.

But Chinese criticism of North Korea is unlikely to mean tough new action against Pyongyang because China would see any collapse of its troublesome neighbor as a disaster.

Approximately 50,000 red fan-lights moved in sync as they basked the interior of Tokyo Dome in a red glow.

On the 4th of April at 5:30pm, audience members filled 50,000 seats in Tokyo Dome and chanted “JYJ” in one voice. When the members appeared on staged, the fans screamed and shouted their delight, only to begin waving their fan-lights in sync. 1,300 square meters of Tokyo Dome were lit by a red glow. The first Tokyo Dome concert in three years for JYJ. This was the moment their last concert was to begin.

“We! JYJ! have returned to Tokyo Dome.”

This is what the three members, including Kim Jaejoong, shouted on stage. And they said, “We wanted to see you. We really, really wanted to see you.”

Their voices were filled with power. Park Yoochun kept shouting, “Are you ready to have fun?” Though the other members tried to calm him down and told him, “Save your voice,” Park Yoochun’s expression was filled with nothing but happiness.

The fans replied by holding up supporting placards that read, “Let’s stick together.”

Kim Jaejoong looked at the placards the fans were holding up, which had been different for every day JYJ had held a concert. The first day’s placards said, ‘Welcome back’, while the second day’s said, ‘We wanted to see you.’ And on the last day, fans held up signs that said, ‘Let’s stick together’. It was like the fans were holding a conversation with JYJ.

“What about tomorrow?” was the response Kim Jaejoong gave before he remembered it would be their last day in Tokyo Dome.

The first portion of the concert had the fans pumped up with each members’ individual performances. The first up to the bat was Kim Junsu. He showcased his sophisticated performance skills, vocal talents and rap skills with the song ‘Breath’. He continued to sing ‘Lullaby’ and walked around the large stage set within Tokyo Dome. He closed his eyes and spread his arms out wide, as if he was feeling the support and love of his Japanese fans with his whole body. At the crux of the song, high notes burst forth from Kim Junsu like the breaking of a dam.

Kim Jaejoong followed him soon after and brought out his rocker side as he sang his latest track ‘Only Love’. The audience members made sure they didn’t miss a single expression that crossed his face. Kim Jaejoong would close his eyes and get into the music in one moment, and suddenly open his eyes and sing to the audience the next.

Last but not least was Park Yoochun. Park Yoochun sang ‘Friend’ by Anzenchitai and ‘An Old Song’ by Kim Dong Ryul. His emotion-laden voice calmed the energy of the venue down and fans could be heard shouting ‘Yoochun-chan’ in between the songs’ melodies. When he finished his pieces, he was met with warm applause from the fans.

The three members then took their individual stages to another notch and showcased their individual colors on stage.

Kim Jaejoong had everyone up and running with ‘One Kiss’ and Mika Nakashima’s ‘Glamorous Sky’. Kim Jaejoong rocked it out with a fur coat worn below his shoulders, getting the fans waving their arms and enjoying themselves. One middle-aged fan who was passionately waving her arms had an expression of pure happiness on her face as he performed.

Kim Jaejoong had the audience at the edges of their seats; he knew exactly what would get his fans riled up. At times, he would put on a look of charisma on his face when the instrumental was playing and when his song hit its climax, he stopped singing, said, “It’s too hot,” and promptly took off his coat. He ended his performance with the smirk of one who knew what he was doing.

Straight after him came Kim Junsu, with his sharp vocal talents.

Starting off with his English solo ‘Uncommitted’, Kim Junsu also sang ‘Everyone Under the Sky’. Kim Junsu’s emotional tone and perfect vocal talent created a stage with no faults. He sang the first minute of his song with any instrumental music and was met with thunderous applause that filled Tokyo Dome. Kim Junsu continued to sing with such strong emotions, as though he had locked it all away for too long and was finally letting go. It was like watching Lim Jae Beom on ‘I Am a Singer’ singing ‘Everyone’.

“No matter how hard it gets, I will not cry. Because I’ve traversed over walls so high numerous times. I’m not afraid of anything. Because I’m not alone.” Though the lyrics were written in another language, they touched everyone’s hearts with their sincerity. The song was met with applause that carried on for a long time. Kim Junsu’s eyes teared up as he took in the applause that was given to him.

It was Park Yoochun’s turn to shake things up. Starting off with Masaharu Fukuyama’s ‘Sai Ai’, he also performed his new piece ‘Walking in Spring with Her’. As a warm and sweet ‘Spring carol’, Park Yoochun’s new song enveloped Tokyo Dome in warmth. The sweet yet sincere song was met with cheers and applause when it ended.

The air crackled with energy for the last of JYJ’s solo performances.

Kim Jaejoong started off with his rock-ballad composition ‘All Alone’, and lit the flame with Mine, the title song of his rock album ‘I’. He unleashed his rock spirit with the help of two guitarists, hitting high notes while moving across the stage and head-banging to the riffs of the guitars. Imitating hitting the keys of a piano when the instrumental came on, Kim Jaejoong proceeded to run his hand down his body. Fans went crazy at the sigh of this and even seeing the back of Kim Jaejoong’s head had them screaming.

Kim Junsu was the last to perform a solo piece with the title song of his solo album ‘Tarantallegra’. He appeared on stage by flying in and his fans cheered along in between the beat of the song. The fans rose from their seats, dancing and feeling the rhythm of Kim Junsu.

The latter half of the concert had all three members of JYJ on stage together. JYJ started off by singing ‘In Heaven’, the title song of their first Korean album. Their beautiful harmonies filled Tokyo Dome and stayed in the hearts of their fans for a long time.

The three members continued to sing ‘A Boy’s Letter’ to express their feelings for their fans. The lyrics of the song depict the grateful emotions a boy feels towards a girl. Like the little boy, the members expressed their gratitude to their fans, but through a heartfelt performance that was met with warm applause.

They immediately changed the relaxed pace of the concert with ‘Get Out’. With great dancing skills, the three members stuck together as they roamed the stage within Tokyo Dome.

JYJ’s car parade kicked things up a notch as they sang ‘You’re’ and ‘Found You’ on moving cars. They threw rubber balls to their fans and Kim Jaejoong even used gun-shaped equipment to shoot the balls closer to the fans who were sitting further back.

Like so, JYJ continued to make memories with the fans they hadn’t seen for three years. The members and fans all waved their arms in sync and finally broke the dam of sorrow that had built up from their three years spent separated. JYJ made a confession through the lyrics, “Found you, my love. The person I’ve been looking for,” and the 50,000 fans in attendance reciprocated by singing, “I love you, I love you.”

JYJ continued to connect with their fans through special performances. Kim Jaejoong stated, “It’s been four years since I’ve seen the bright lights of this concert venue. We’ve prepared a song that will bring back the memories of our time together four years ago.”

The song he was hinting at was ‘Rainy Blue’, a popular Japanese song from the 80s that was originally sung by Hideaki Tokunaga but was reinterpreted by Kim Jaejoong and Park Yoochun four years ago. JYJ also sang this song four years ago atop a revolving stage at Tokyo Dome.

Seeing them performing the same song they had sung four years ago seemed to connect the fans’ past and present. The applause and cheers that followed the performance lasted a very long time. After the song, Kim Jaejoong said, “All three members agreed that we needed to sing this song again. It’s a song that brings back old memories.”

The end of the three-day event, which attracted a total of 150,000 fans, was coming to an end, and the members expressed their disappointment of having it all end so soon.

“Though so much time had to pass for us to be able to stand on this stage today, we’ve been so happy the past three days.”

Kim Junsu’s eyes teared up but he valiantly held back his tears as he stated, “We will never forget the love you have shown us the past three days and we will perform more often in Japan. For our next concert, we’ll hold a tour all over Japan, not just in Tokyo.”

Park Yoochun said, “I’m happy. We’ll come back soon. The three of us will always be together. I hope we can keep coming back to show you that.” His eyes were also full of tears as he slowly expressed his thoughts.

Kim Jaejoong’s eyes were already very red. He said, “We believe that things are okay, things have been okay, and we have nothing but happy days ahead of us. Never again do I want us to say ‘Goodbye’ or ‘Farewell’ to you guys. Those words don’t fit what you and we have very well.”

He also added, “We were scared of time, because it would keep flowing so fast against our wishes. The first year wasn’t that bad. Because a year can pass quickly. But when it got to the second year, that’s when we thought, ‘Time is a frightful thing.’ Time kept slipping through our fingers and four years passed. I can’t express what emotion we’re feeling, standing here with you all. Though the three of us are still young, we don’t know what’s ahead of us and though our future’s unclear, we will be strong and keep moving forward because we have you, who believe in us no matter what.”

With his words, a look of determination crossed Kim Jaejoong’s face and he was met with applause from JYJ’s fans.

Kim Jaejoong continued to say, “I feel relieved. We don’t have many opportunities to honestly talk about our feelings. And it was great just seeing you all again. I believe that these moments will continue to increase from now on.” Kim Junsu and Park Yoochun took on more serious expressions as they listened to Kim Jaejoong talk.

For their last song, JYJ performed ‘Fallen Leaves’, which contains the lyrics, ‘When the flowers fall, we start again’.

Disappointed at having to let the members go, the fans waved their yellow fan-lights and at the end of the song, Kim Jaejoong shouted out, “Thank you all so very much.”

After the performance, the members gathered around Kim Jaejoong, held hands, and bowed for a very long time.

With Kim Jaejoong’s final words, “We were so happy today. Thank you all,” the members of JYJ began preparing for their encore performances.

The encore performance was like a festival, celebrating the members’ presence at the venue.

While JYJ sang ‘be My Girl’, 56 dancers stood on stage and had the fans do the Wave. It was a sight to see 50,000 fans do the Wave together. Like the pink fan-lights the fans held in their hands, a pink wave seemed to dance across Tokyo Dome.

With the final performance of ‘Empty’ ringing through the venue, Tokyo Dome was filled with colored confetti.

After singing ‘Empty’, the members walked off stage for a few minutes, only to come running back. Though the Japanese fans had stayed calm and orderly throughout the concert, they began shouting and cheering in earnest, knowing that this would be the last. They were sad to see JYJ go, but vowed to wait till they came back again.

The three members of JYJ ran to the middle of the stage and returned back to their original position, holding hands with their staff members and bowing. After saying their final farewells, Kim Jaejoong and Park Yoochun put their hands around their lips and shouted, “Thank you” to everyone. Park Yoochun seemed especially reluctant to leave, staring at the audience with yearning eyes filled with tears.

This marked the end of their Tokyo Dome comeback in three years. During the concert, the members of JYJ aired messages that expressed their emotions through short videos that were met with applause. In the videos, such a message was sent.

“It seemed like our time apart would never end. It was like being in a maze and unable to see the end. But now, the darkness has passed and we’ve exited the maze. Please watch over JYJ as we make our new beginning. We will repay you for the time you have spent waiting. We love you.”

Reporting their concert, SBS stated, “With the relationship between Korea and Japan freezing up and the Hallyu Wave’s popularity dwindling in Japan, it seems as though things are getting better.” Visiting a Korea Town in Japan, the SBS reporter stated, “With a continuous string of large-scale concerts by Hallyu stars in Japan, many are curious to see if the dying popularity of the Hallyu Wave will be revived this year.”

It’s great that Hallyu is improving Korea’s image in the world, but it sickens me to see such acts by broadcasting companies who seal dirty deals with an entertainment agency that’s tying JYJ down and blocking their names from getting out… This isn’t the first time that JYJ’s achievements have been over generalized to that of K-pop as a whole.” (Daechae****)

More criticisms followed stating, “Though I can understand the broadcasting company’s desire to revive the dying popularity of the Hallyu Wave, shouldn’t it also focus on relaying news accurately? Since they beginning of their conflicts with former agency SM Entertainment, and their unilateral contract suspension by AVEX in 2010, JYJ have not been able to appear on TV or release albums through regular procedures. In November of 2012, JYJ ended their legal battle with SM Entertainment with a settlement, and won their lawsuit against AVEX in January of this year.

During a press conference on the 4th, JYJ stated, “The meaning of the first time we stood on this stage (Tokyo Dome) was ‘a new beginning’. We could have never guessed that it would be our last Japanese performance,” and “We were frustrated about not being able to perform or appear on TV, both our Korean and Japanese activities were completely blocked off.”

However, they added, “But, it was a time for us to grow and mature as people and artistes. We’re grateful for every little thing that has happened,” and “Now, even just having our voices on the radio makes us happy. We would like for this concert to be a new beginning, rather than an end.”

They continued to state, “Just because our legal issues have been resolved, doesn’t mean that the obstacles around us will go away,” and “We know that the external pressure around us might intensify. Nothing is going as we had planned. But we will do our best, however small the tasks that we’re given are.”

Meanwhile, domestic fans cheered JYJ on as they successfully completed all three of their Tokyo Dome concerts. 150,000 seats costing 130,000 Won sell out… MD goods ‘sell like hotcakes’

The cost of one ticket was 10,500 Yen. When this is converted to Korean currency, each ticket costs approximately 130,000 Won. A representative of C-JeS Entertainment stated, “We have to factor in the cost of renting the venue, wages, and paying the Japanese concert management company we hired. So we aren’t sure what the real profit of the concert will be.”

Seol Gyung Goo, asks for a ticket for his daughter

On the second day of JYJ’s concerts, a special guest arrived at Tokyo Dome. It was Seol Gyung Goo’s ex-wife and daughter. According to a representative, they went to JYJ’s concert together.

Having already performing in Seoul and Hong Kong for their world tour, TVXQ recently held a successful concert in Beijing, China.

On the 30th at 7:30pm, TVXQ held their ‘TVXQ! LIVE WORLD TOUR ‘CATCH ME’ in BEIJING’ concert at the Beijing Capital Indoor Stadium and wowed 10,000 fans with their amazing performances and varied stage themes.

Opening the night’s events with ‘Rising Sun’, TVXQ performed a total of 26 songs including, ‘Catch Me’ and ‘Humanoids’ from their latest album, hit songs such as ‘Why (Keep Your Head Down)’ and ‘Mirotic’, as well as solo performances of ‘Honey Funny Bunny’ by U-Know Yunho and ‘Ting Hai’ by Max Changmin.

It was later said that the audience’s passionate cheering and participation helped improve the already-great atmosphere of the concert with the audience members waving their pearl-red fanlights, singing along to TVXQ’s songs, and perfecting the Korean cheers that went along with them.

TVXQ arrived in Beijing on the 29th for the concert and were swamped by countless fans who had flocked to the airport to see the stars.
