Korean Handsome Man Kim Jaejoong Has Not Tried The Horse Dance Yet
Korean handsome man Kim Jaejoong has not tried the horse dance yet.
Last night the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center was so busy, what with the Chinese Super League’s epic battle between Sainty and Evergrande, and beside that in the Arena, Korea’s exDBSK-current JYJ member Kim Jaejoong held his fan meeting, where 5000-6000 fans from all over China spent 90 minutes with their idol. The recent hit [Gangnam Style] which swept across the world also raised the temperature for the Hallyu wave. In the press con in the afternoon, when asked about the hit song, this model korean flower boy couldn’t help but smile and said ” Although I have not tried yet, but my manager dances the horse dance often. “
26 year old Kim Jaejoong debuted in 2003 and rose to fame as a member of DBSK, after 2010 he is active as a member of JYJ. Similar to Jiro Wang, they are both singers-turned actors. The roles he played in [Dr Jin], [Heaven’s Postman], [Jackal is Coming] have conquered a massive number of fans. Last night’s fan meeting has attracted five to six thousand fans. Kim Jaejoong sang two solos LIVE, played interactive games with fans, and within the 90 mins of the fan meeting there was nonstop screaming from fans.
Recently in these two years, China and Korea’s dramas have been frequently using time-travel as a theme, and Kim Jaejoong’s [Dr Jin] also involves time travelling. When asked if he has a choice, which era he would most want to time-travel to, he smiled and replied ” Time-travelling includes to the past and to the future. Actually I would want to travel to the future, because I really want to know what the future holds. “

In his interview with KpopStarz JYJ Jaejoong reveals the secrets to his happiness
JYJ Kim Jaejoong
It is not often that we find ourselves actually being or doing what we have dreamed about as children. Like everyone of us, Kim Jaejoong didn’t really start out wanting to sing. In KpopStarz’ recent interview with the actor and singer, Jaejoong of JYJ revealed, “My childhood dream was to become the owner of a supermarket. I also wanted to become a hair designer.” Who would’ve thought?
However, we see him these days being successful in the path that he has chosen to take. Perhaps this is because of not having many expectations. He admitted “I didn’t expect to receive this much love from fans in the world. I am really thankful to have met JYJ members. I am very happy to do music that we love.”
It’s both touching and ironic to hear him speak this way, especially with the difficult path JYJ had to take as of late. To find something rewarding, to find happiness would’ve been a tall order from someone in his situation, but still he sees the glass as half-full, with his optimism.
Kim Jaejoong cherishes the path he is on, finding that making music, specifically being a singer makes him feel the highest form of happiness possible, he shared, “There are no words needed. I am happy with everything. I am happy that, as a singer, I can do the music I want to do. I am very happy to perform on stage; sharing moments with members who have the same heart.”
Many times in the interview Jaejoong revealed the people that matter to him the most – his JYJ members and the fans who support them. Seeing these, his most prized possessions, is reason enough to understand his heart and see where that happiness comes from.

The two-member group TVXQ has returned to their fans’ side for the first time in one year and eight months with a new Korean album. TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho (26) and Choikang Changmin (24) released their sixth studio album ‘Catch Me’ at the end of September. For the first time since releasing their fifth album ‘Why (Keep Your Head Down)’ in January, 2011, TVXQ are greeting their domestic fans with new songs in their latest album.
During their hiatus from the domestic scene, TVXQ successfully completed a tour in Japan and have reached a new level of maturity as musicians and human beings. They met with a total of 550,000 fans during their Japanese tour in the first half of the year. The event proved once more that TVXQ’s popularity is still soaring in Japan.
It has been eight years, getting close to nine, since the group released their debut single ‘HUG’ in January, 2004. They have been popular since their debut, and that popularity soon spread overseas. This would lead most to fall to mannerisms. But even now, TVXQ are still hungry for new challenges. This is the critical reason why they have not fallen to complacency.
Their new album has incorporated a sense of softness to their signature intense style of music to better approach the general public. They have stepped up to another new challenge.
The song that best represents this is the group’s title song ‘Catch Me’, which was composed and written by SM Entertainment’s star producer Yoo Young Jin. ‘Catch Me’ is a song that has a powerful electronic sound, but also has a melody that is relatively easy to sing along to.
The new album takes on a variety of genres, with a track list featuring a remake of ChaniMini’s bright and bubbly ‘Dream’, a medium-tempo ballad ‘How Are You’, and a rock number ‘Getaway’. It can be said that the new album reflects TVXQ’s musical capability and their endless aspirations for trying something new.
I sat with TVXQ, who had matured in many levels but still had a child-like innocence about them. TVXQ’s first performance for their sixth album will be during KBS 2TV’s ‘Music Bank’ on the 5th.
-How do you feel about your comeback?
(U-Know Yunho) I think our hiatus from Korea was longer than expected. It didn’t feel that long for us because we were performing overseas. But when we returned, we felt bad when we realized that our domestic fans had been waiting for us for a long time. We were planning to come back earlier, but it took us this long because we wanted to show that we had improved and grown. Our last song ‘Why’ emphasized our strong intensity, so we wanted our new song to better appeal to the public. We tried to balance out our unique style of music with a chorus that was easy to follow. We’ve always taken on new challenges, and this was yet another chance to show off something new. It’s only the beginning, and my heart is already pounding with anticipation. I still feel a bit of pressure because we haven’t performed yet.
(Choikang Changmin) It feels like it’s been such a long time since we had our last Korean comeback when I hear people say that it’s been a year and eight, nine months. But for us, it doesn’t feel that long because between our last two domestic albums, I think we’ve sung ‘Why’ over a hundred times during our Japanese concerts.
If you could give us an introduction of your latest album?
(U-Know Yunho) There are a lot of genres incorporated into the album. If we compare it to our last album, there are more songs that are similar to the bright tracks of our first album. There are songs such as ‘Dream’, which has a distinctive 90′s melody, ‘How Are You’, and a rock number ‘Getaway’. I think ‘Catch Me’ is a song that is easy on the ears, but hasn’t lost our distinctive style of music. We want to perform music that isn’t always a set in a specific style, even if we fail. This is why there are so many different genres in our new album. I want to hear, ‘TVXQ are like chameleons.’
-What was the most memorable moment of the last year and eight months?
(U-Know Yunho) We broke our own record for the most audience members at a Korean singer’s solo Japanese tour. We met with 550,000 fans during our latest Japanese tour. The most we had ever met with was 300,000 people. I was so moved during the two performances at Tokyo Dome that I cried my heart out for the first time since I made my debut. When our fans held a special event for us, I felt so grateful to be able to stand on stage in front of them.
(Choikang Changmin) Of course, our Japanese tour has been the most memorable moment. I’m usually the kind of person who wears himself out. I used to always think, ‘Why can’t I do this,’ when I made a mistake on stage. But I didn’t feel that at all this time around, and I made the effort to enjoy it from the beginning to the end. Even when I made a mistake, I would think ‘I’ll do better next time,’ and move on. One of the reasons why I changed is because of the Japanese movie (‘Fly with the Gold’) that I filmed during the Japanese tour. It was so hard to do both things at the same time, but I found that I could do it once I started. I was stressed out at first because I had to act in a foreign language, but I later found myself enjoying it. This process helped me change into a person who makes the effort to enjoy his work.
-It’s already been close to nine years since you made your debut.
(U-Know Yunho) We’ve been doing nothing but staring straight ahead, but when I look around now, I find that we’re sometimes the most experienced celebrities when we go to broadcasting companies. There are now people who want to become singers after hearing our music. Our sincerity and sense of responsibility has only grown with the passing of time.
(Choikang Changmin) I heard that Girls’ Generation recently celebrated their fifth anniversary. Hearing that, it made me realize how long it’s been since we made our own debut. (laughter)
-Then do your juniors find you difficult to approach?
(U-Know Yunho) In the case of Girls’ Generation, I think they think of as friendly older brothers who they can be at ease around. Haha. But I think they find us difficult to approach at the same time. I think that’s the best relationship to have (with our juniors).
(continued in part 2)
<continued from part #1>
-Do you have any words of advice for your junior idol groups?
(U-Know Yunho) First, I would like to tell them to foster good relationships with other people. I would like to tell them of the importance of greeting people (T/N: bowing when you meet someone). Because they’ll probably be singers for a long time. I also want to tell them to relax and take things in stride. It may seem as though we’ve always been doing well, but we didn’t become successful overseas overnight in countries such as Japan; we took it one step at a time and worked our way up. Through that process, we learned so much. We may have become conceited if we had been successful from the beginning, but that process gave us the opportunity to whip ourselves into shape as musicians.
(Choikang Changmin) I want to tell them to enjoy it. Our juniors are all people who have realized their dream of becoming singers, which they’ve held in their hearts from when they were young. Of course, it may feel like singing is a job at times, but how boring would it be to think of singing as nothing but a job? So I want to tell them to enjoy it.
-Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ craze is phenomenal. As one of K-pop’s representatives, how do you feel about the Psy syndrome?
(U-Know Yunho) Though we are envious, we’re also really happy for him. When we first made our overseas debut, Youtube wasn’t used as much as it is now. Now, it’s changed so that K-pop is able to spread all over the world. I believe that we have to help spread the K-pop craze.
-What do you think is TVXQ’s weakness?
(U-Know Yunho) Because we’ve taken on so many intense songs, I think that’s what has shaped our image. This could be a forte, but it could also be a weakness. I think about what we should do to change and evolve from this.
-Are you the fourth in line in SM after Yoo Young Jin, Kangta and BoA?
(U-Know Yunho) Since we’ve been with the company for a while, I think they ranked us for fun because they want to give us the treatment they believe we deserve. Haha. Of course, we’re not low in the ranks. Even when we get on a plane, they sit Kangta with (Kim) Min Jong, and BoA with us.
-You recently became a family with celebrities such as Jang Dong Gun, Kang Hodong and Shin Dong Yeop through SM’s subsidiary SM C&C.
(Choikang Changmin) I used to watch Kang Ho Dong and Jang Dong Gun on TV when I was in elementary school, so I still can’t believe that we’re now in the same company. (laughter)
(U-Know Yunho) I believe that the growth of the company will help give more support to the company’s celebrities. It’s great when the company does well.
-Who is your ideal woman?
(Choikang Changmin) I’d like for her to be someone who I can be comfortable around. I want to have fun with her like a friend, even when we start dating. Oh, and in terms of appearance, my ideal woman for now is Han Yeseul. It’s changed from Han Gain, Kim Tae Hee and Lee Nayoung. (laughter)
(U-Know Yunho) I’d like her to be sunny and considerate. It’s because I’d like to lean on her when things get rough. It doesn’t matter if she’s a celebrity or not, but I’d like for her to be understanding of the work I do. In terms of appearance, it will always be Jeon Ji Hyun for me.
-What are TVXQ’s future plans?
(Choikang Changmin) I think we’re going to focus on performing in music programs. We’re also planning to appear in more variety shows than we did during our ‘Why’ comeback. I’d really like to appear on ‘Radio Star’.
-What is a goal you would like to achieve in the future?
(U-Know Yunho) I want for us to be a long-running team. We’re kicking off a world tour this year, and I’d like for us to visit as many places as possible. I’d like for TVXQ to be a team that people eagerly wait for because we hold many fun and enjoyable concerts. It doesn’t matter if the concerts are at a small-scale. I really want TVXQ to hold a solo concert at the Madison Square Garden in New York where we held a SM Town concert. It was amazing to hold a SM Town concert in the same place that Michael Jackson once stood in.
(Choikang Changmin) I went to the Shinhwa concert, and it was great to see them performing together for their fourteenth year. I would like for us to be together for a long time like them. I’d like to showcase a new side of TVXQ that people haven’t seen that often, whether it be through acting or variety shows. I really hate the belief that an idol’s lifespan is short. I want to break that stereotype. Oh, and I would like to perform in countries of passion such as Spain and those in South American for our world tour.
-Any last messages you have for yourself?
(U-Know Yunho) I’d like to tell myself not to be sucked into the life of U-Know Yunho as a celebrity. Of course, I have to live as U-Know Yunho when I get on stage, but I’d like to be the country-boy Jung Yunho when I’m not on stage. As Jung Yunho, I want to experience what most people my age go through. So I always make the effort to figure things out by myself, without the help of our manager, when I’m not on stage.
(Choikang Changmin) The fact that I fearlessly took on SM’s offer when I was in the 7th grade was a lucky break for me as it led me to become a singer. There are times when it gets rough, and there are probably going to be rough times ahead, but I want to tell myself not to feel pressured and to enjoy it.

Q: First time participation in a Japanese movie
Changmin: During the beginning scenes of filming as Momo, the sites were at tunnels and undergrounds etc. At that time, I just joined the filming and as compared to other actors, it was difficult for me to get into the character. These might be my excuses… During the beginning stage of getting used to filming, I do not know anything and it was very tough. These left me a deep impression.
Q: Acting as Momo
Changmin: Momo, this character, is not a ‘public masses’ character. It’s a niche character. Not only this, he is also someone who did not interact with anyone else and struggle to survive in a dark life with no future. He carries on a tragic fate where he is abandoned by his country and organisation. I always work hard with my own way and anticipate a lot for the movie and worried at the same time.
Q: About Director Izutsu Kazuyuki
Changmin: Regarding Director Izutsu Kazuyuki, I heard a lot of rumours about him before the filming and at that time, I felt “Ah… like this. Looks like it’s going to be tough.” But actually Director Izutsu Kazuyuki is very detailed with his directing of acting. Not only this, he also taught me a lot a lot. These became my precious experiences.
“Momo, what else would you like to do in Japan?”
“I wish to eat saba sushi once.”
Q: What is ‘Gold’ to Momo?
Changmin: To be in unison with the one I love and not just surviving alone but with everyone. Doing what I wish to do and feel the happiness from it. If there is this happiness in the heart, this is Momo’s ‘Gold’.

Transforming into a charming man, Kim Junsu.
The man who is ever transforming and never staying at one place, Kim Junsu.
The one who dare to transform and never afraid of transformation, came to @star1.
As a member of JYJ, a musical actor and a soloist.
The man who ran relentlessly, Kim Junsu.
The man he relays, the story of Kim Junsu.
UNCOMMITTED
While he is transforming into a soloist, he released another English version of his album. ‘UNCOMMITTED’ gathered the production of Bruce Automatic and this became a focused topic. An entirely different approach towards production and also a new attempt. “During the recording in Korea, the focus is only on recording. In America, the recording was started after discussion with everyone with inputs of ideas and suggestions. If the planned recording is about 4 hours, then there’s about 2 hours being used to hear out each other’s opinions for the album. And also I feel that they really take care of the artiste’s feelings. If there’s a need for rest, rest can be given anytime. If there’s any bad throat condition, everyone would be very panicked. Therefore I’ve learnt about what is the best environment for working with the best staffs.” The MV was also shot in America with the best staffs. He was at the same time unable to adapt to the new way of long shot filming for the whole story. “In our country, we have known from long ago that you have to use ‘seductive’ ways to sing in America. Of course, there was not special designation at that time either. After the period of time, it’s called ‘action’. When we first met, I was unsure and when every actors are in standby mode, it really felt as though fishes were being poured into water. After the music started, all the actions that are needed for the storyline were all my ad-libs. When filming started, I thought that I should do whatever I can. Though it is a huge burden, a natural scene can only be shown through this way. At the desert, the car was parked and music started playing. I have to do that scene my own way. Especially at the scene when I just met the opposite party and had to seduce her, it made me really at a loss. Filming was done at such circumstances and a high quality MV was thus completed. Everyone at the filming site were looking at me, putting aside the shyness, I just keep thinking on how to end the filming quickly. The staffs who worked with me are very famous people and they are also working with Korean artistes for the first time. Because of this, I want to leave a good impression with the and at the same time increased a certain responsibility for it and wanted to present it well under pressurized state. No matter what, it has to be completed.”
From Group To Solo
From a 5 membered group to a 3 membered group, then transforming into a soloist. Just like this, there were many troubles and it was not easy. Especially for a soloist who is unable to appear in any television program, the burden is bigger. An album that was produced after long consideration, therefore he really want it to be a high quality and perfect album. “The basis determines whether this album will be a success or not. Before the release of the album, this consideration has to be done ad this kind of consideration will definitely brought upon great success. To be honest, when the company wanted me to release a solo album, I rejected the idea. As I felt that, under the circumstances that I am unable to appear on the television screen, an album release seems tough. Moreover, to produce a high quality album, a lot of investment has to be made. If it did not succeed, it will be a completely waste of time.” The release of a solo album brought upon the collaboration with Gaeko and Double K. The things that were not tried before are done now.
“In the past I had such a thinking. Everyone has his own colours at music. No matter how you want to change it, there will not be an irresistible boundary. I feel that to break this boundary is to have collaborations. Now I just want to say, even when the company is at risk, they still produce an album for me. I felt really blessed for this.
A Transformation Called ‘Breakthrough’
The album that was released after consideration, also said to be ‘breaking a rule’.
Appearing once again with the name ‘XIA’, with the choice of an androgynous creativity that was never attempted before. The meticulous decision made by Junsu with a thoughtless carefree personality surprised me even more. “Honestly, it was very awkward. For my character to do manicure and dyed all kinds of weird hair colours was something I would never have thought of. As an artiste, I am shameful to say that I am not at all good with styling. From my previous point of view, as a singer, I just have to sing well. I am the kind who find skin treatment bothersome. However since I started to act in musical ‘Elisabeth’, it gave me a different perspective.”
Kim Junsu acted as Death in musical ‘Elisabeth’. Such a fantasy and supernatural character would need an even more extraordinary style. “This is also the reason I started to lose weight. I felt that I am a huge difference from the character Death. If I were to appear on television screen, I would definitely take note of my styling. But it was completely different during my rest time. The Death portrayed in the musical is very sexy and like a god of fate. Therefore when I look at myself in the mirror I felt that I shouldn’t be like this. I will not be able to immerse myself in the musical in this state. I have to grasp all the attention when I appear. Therefore I have to change my current state and thus I starts to lose weight.”
After becoming Death, Kim Junsu’s inner being also took a turn. “To singers, singing well is a must but not to be neglected is to give the audience the good image a singer should possessed. Though image should not be more important than music, visual should still not be neglected. When producing this album, I made a lot of effort towards the visual aspect. Because of such, I started to do manicure and recently I even felt weird without manicure. My inner being has changed to such. Even be it for fans, such an effort is worth it. I have never thought of wigs in the past too but now I think I will use it if it’s needed.”
Solo Concerts, Asian Tour, World Tour
Just by watching a solo concert of 90 minutes, it was a string of strong dance numbers. Holding up the stage by himself, his singing skills and stage presence were greatly complimented. “I always been thinking, what if after Tarantallegra and while I was sitting on the chair, the host doesn’t announce the next song, that would be great. Sometimes I also think that if only I don’t have to get up after I sat on that chair. But in order for a perfect performance, I have to link all the dance numbers together and focused on the stage. The joy and success received after that are very grand.” It’s the starting of the world tour now. (T/N: This interview was most likely done right before world tour.) To stand on an international stage, it feels different from a domestic stage. It is alike to the feelings of national representatives. Not just maintaining the popularity in Japan but to open up the market to Europe and South America. Preparing for the appearance of ‘XIA’ and also as a Korean singer moving towards International ground. It is a responsibility that they cannot underestimate. “Actually I don’t even know what I’m dancing during the last dance song ‘Mission’. It was really tiring. When the concert ended, not only happiness, there is also an echoing feel. It is not a bad feel but after every performance ended, there’s a sad and emptiness feel. And also a determination to do it better next time. “
The Daily Life Of A Commoner Kim Junsu
While chatting with him, it felt really relieved that these glamourous artistes on stage are in fact without any qualms, chatting in a very free and easy tone, making everyone laughing non-stop. “I like to be with my friends, my home is the headquarters. If I am at home, Kikwang from B2ST, professional gamer Yeom Bo Sung and Seo Kyung Jung etc will just key in the door’s password and enter. I am one who loves a crowd therefore I would call friends over. Kikwang would come frequently in his rest time. As we don’t like to drink alcohol, Kikwang, Doojoon, Ji Suk hyung will come and we would go Han River for a game of basketball.”
As the captain of the artiste football team FC MEN, his passion for football is well-known. Even when he is alone, he is always thinking, “If I was to be born again, I want to be a footballer. I am not one who will take care of my health. But as I need to stand on stage, I can’t be at my own wish and I did not have such depressing thoughts either. Therefore if I said I wanted to play football during concert period, my manager will not agree. Even so, I will insist.” He appeared in Park Ji Sung’s Asian Dream Cup at Vietnam in 2011 and fought along with the players. Joined upon Park Ji Sung’s invitation and not because his desire to run on the field. It was a chance to be on the field together. “I accepted the invitation and the Vietnamese players seems to think that I am one of the professional players and kept blocking me. I had wanted to observe a while but to no avail. I can only pass the ball. (laughs) I had never thought of joining the competition and Ji Sung hyung said, ‘Didn’t you said you like to play football? Let’s play together.’ He encouraged me like this. Actually I wasn’t in my good state but I think that such a chance might not happen again so I didn’t show that I was unwell and participated in the game. Even the national representative’s manager came to check on my health status.”
Beyond An Idol Star, Reaching The State Of A Musical Actor
His ticket power is also renowned in musical industry. For the ordering of ticket, there is a rumored ‘ticketing war’.To be a musical actor of such an appealing status with a strong ability, he has earned his place in the musical world. “I am really thankful to everyone who paid such an expensive price to fill up the seats (in a musical hall). This made me very touched. Therefore I can’t afford to be negligence. Though I am unable to fill up 100% of everyone’s expectation, at the very least I don’t wish to hear that an idol star managed to crossover to the musical industry simply because of his popularity etc. Comments like these. It’s such responsibility that made me this hardworking. Of course I will work even harder in the future. Indeed, there were many talks on idol-borne artistes who went into musical. A portion said it is because of the popularity, thus easily receiving the lead role. Some says that this is a way to boost sales. In order to refute these talks, one had to work even tougher. As an idol-born artiste, I also went through such an ordeal of skepticism before. In order to get ridden of their skepticism, I have to do it perfectly. Burden was there but if due to my mistake that caused this musical to be unsuccessful, the finger will be pointed at me. Thus it made me even more cautious and I don’t allow myself any mistake in every performance. Thus I have to work even harder. But I still can feel the doubts about me. Because once I went of tune, someone would say, ‘Told you, idol stars just can’t make it.’ I know this is inevitable to me. Because of this, I have to work harder, even for a bit. I will change these skepticism through my hard work as this is my responsibility.” In the end, Kim Junsu gained everyone’s recognition.
At the ‘Musical Award’, he received popularity award 3 years consecutively and nomination for best male actor 2 years consecutively. The feeling is different between a musical award ceremony and a music award ceremony. “At a music award ceremony, I am a senior and at musical award ceremony, I am totally the youngest of the juniors. I am very thankful to the actors/actresses who love and took care of me. Afraid that I will feel outcasted, they treat me very well. It made me feel that I shouldn’t be shy standing on this position. I am able to sit on this position and it’s just due to my popularity… I hate such a description. Thus I have to work harder.”
Debuted For 9 Years And Still Developing
It is already his 9th year of debut and though there were many things faced but he feel that right now he is really planning his own route. “No matter what issues, one has to have his own ideas. I will understand JYJ’s situation and think of how to do it better in the future. After I saw the results, it felt more agitated after going through what the strenuous route. Right now I don’t like to be told what to do because I feel that THAT is not me but a repackaged me. Of course repackaging is an art but I just want to be myself. No packaging. Artistes should have their own thinking and own personality. My members also went through it with their own effort for some success and at the same time they are indulging in this happiness.” This talk seems to be an encouraging message for the juniors. Though with own thinking, it might not attained 100% completion but to build a trust with the company and then negotiate, one would become an artiste who did not lose himself. “Don’t just do what the company told you to do. You can express your own positive suggestions in the midst of it. Even if it’s just a bit, it would be good to be such a kind of artiste. When company is setting up the concept, one should rightfully express his own ideas. Of course, it might be very risky to do it your own way so collecting opinions is very important. If to become such an artiste with such thoughts, then it will form his own personality and will become competitive.”
Challenging like this and be himself is what he is enjoying the most lately. To be himself is not a one-side issue, but it can be done through communications and working towards the direction one hopes to move towards. Therefore there might be failure in this route but even if it is more dangerous than before, one should not regret. “Burden and responsibility are my enjoyment now. There’s bound to be crossways and turns. I want to create such turns. Though I don’t know if it is a success or failure, firstly it has to be something I wish to do. In that way I won’t feel regretful. Find out the convergence point with my staffs and then walk down the route together. Through this, I hope that there will be an exchange of trust and happiness.”
@star1 Editor’s Epilogue – Thanks XIA!
22nd of August, it was raining the whole day and I met Kim Junsu at the elegant Kyeongridan road. There is no sign of rain stopping and while waiting for the outdoor shooting, Junsu looked rather happy as compared to the very gloomy faces of the staffs. The concept for @star1 this time was inspired by Junsu’s two-sided charm, and thus decided to go for ‘playboy and wilderness’. As there are two concepts this pictorial, there was a constant changing of outfits and even hair styling and make up took up a lot of time. But he was not tired at all and on the contrary helped staffs to ease the tiredness by firstly games then jokes. The atmosphere was very hot.
In the midst of filming, Junsu discovered a piano by the corner and starts to play beautiful music. Time to time, you could see him serenading away. He would sing when he has time and upon talking about music, the time seems to pass by very swiftly unknowingly. Looking at him like this, there is no need for exact explanation as you can easily see his passion for music. “Usually I will also trust the positive forces earnestly. The rain will stop for sure.” Just like what Junsu said, as though the sky heard Junsu’s spell, the rain really stopped after the indoor shooting ended and a scorching sun appeared.
All the staffs gained happiness through interactions with Junsu and shooting was done quickly. Because of him, the pictorial was done better and more handsome than expected. The solo album also brought upon a busy schedule and though he was very exhausted, Junsu did very well from the start to the end. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all staffs who helped in this shooting. Thank you, Junsu!

Fom New York and LA to Mexico, Brazil, and Chile, XIA performed songs from his album Tarantallegra for his international fans. The 2+ hour concerts also included his hit OST tracks, medleys from his award-winning musicals Mozart! and Elizabeth, and of course, his newest English single, “Uncommitted.” During his stay in New York City prior to his concert at Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom, XIA gave MTV K an exclusive interview on what he had prepared for his fans for this tour, his thoughts on “Uncommitted,” and what it was like touring without JYJ members Yoochun and Jaejoong.

We want to be artists where we can happily give dreams and hope to people. We want to develop more today, than yesterday. Making a tomorrow that is better than today.
REFLECTION
Q. According to the KpopStarz poll results in June, TVXQ was selected as the top K-Pop group that expanded the most in their global influence for the first half of 2012. What are your thoughts on this?
Yoonho: I’m very glad that we received this amount of love. This is also another way for us to spread awareness about our nation’s culture; therefore, this means we also now hold a greater responsibility.
Changmin: First off, I’m really glad that we were chosen through the votes of people in many countries ^^. I’m always sorry that I’m unable to personally greet and meet them. I’m always thankful for their support.
Q. TVXQ is now approaching the group’s 10 year anniversary. What are your thoughts on how far you’ve come?
Yoonho: I think that TVXQ is a group that has grown with all of the fans. More than anyone, the 10 year anniversary has a special meaning to me. TVXQ will work hard to further grow and to show a good image, so we hope for your continuous love and interest.
Changmin: There were many situations that happened, but due to the fans that cheered for us and loved us, we were able to come this far. Because of that, I think that I have to work even harder in the future as well
ACTIVITIES IN THE PAST
Q. TVXQ debuted in Japan and topped the Oricon charts at No.1 after making a grand slam in Korea. Our guess is that it must not have been easy for K-Pop to succeed in the Japanese market at that time. How did you feel about putting aside all the fame and success in Korea and debuting in Japan? How did it affect the group in terms of the group’s growth and development?
Yoonho: When we first debuted in Japan, we were receiving a great deal of love in Korea. At first, it was very difficult for us in Japan. We went to a country whose culture we have never experienced. It was a big challenge for us to learn their culture and work hard to show our uniqueness. The language was a large obstacle we had to overcome, but we never gave up. We thought of the people that loved us and we genuinely worked hard, which resulted in the TVXQ you see today. The fact that we received a great deal of love in Korea and had to start all over again in Japan gave us a mindset of working hard. Due to that, TVXQ doesn’t know how to give up.
Changmin: First off, when we went to Japan, a place where no one recognized us, we were able to be humbled and return to the days when we first started. It was also an opportunity for us to develop our individual skills…^^ I’ve realized that the world is larger than we think~
Q. Looking back, when was your most memorable moment? Also, is there anything that you wish you would have done differently?
Yoonho: The moment that I will remember most happened recently at the Tokyo Dome, where we stood on stage once again. There were many people waiting for us and thinking of us, and it moved me and made me cry for the first time. Although time passes, it will remain in my memories for a long time. If I were to go back in time, there is nothing I would do differently. Those were the decisions I made, and every moment I worked hard, so there are no regrets. I was thrilled when our CD came out for the first time.
Changmin: When I was able to sing in front of others and feel importance and joy. It would have been nice to know the joy of singing earlier
PRESENT
Q. What made TVXQ stand out or be different from other groups?
Yoonho: We never are satisfied with the present, but we always try our best. I think that is our greatest weapon. On stage, I think that we perform as if we are going to die, and I think our genuine attitude was seen by the audience. As for the music, we try to let people hear our differentiated music, and I think people recognize that. I think that is the reason for the current TVXQ.
Changmin: At the least, we give it our all on stage, and I think our fans really appreciate that.
Q. When comparing the group’s dreams and goals from the past and now, are they the same or different? Did you know that this is where you would be 9 years ago?
Yoonho: My dreams from the past aren’t different from my current dreams. Until the day I die, I want to be happy and do my best on stage. I also want to do music that will remain in people’s memories, even though time has passed. Therefore, I’m curious as to see what TVXQ will be like in the future. 9 years ago, rather than expecting it, I wanted to be on stage and do my best. Therefore, I’m able to be in this position.
Changmin: They’re different. In the past, I dreamed of becoming a sports reporter or announcer. I didn’t expect I would be here 9 years ago.
PERSONAL OPINION
Q. Who are your role models in life and in music?
Yoonho: My role model in life is my father. It’s because he showed me with actions, rather than words. When I become older, I want to become a cool father like that. My role model for music is Michael Jackson. He has passed away, but until his last day, he continued to dance and prepare for his performances and as an artist. He always tried to show new types of music. Until that age, he was able to dance and communicate with the audience. I want to become like Michael Jackson, who had an endless passion and who gave dreams and hopes to others.
Changmin: Our company’s producer, Lee Soo Man and our company’s composer, Yoo Young Jin. I admire their endless and challenging mindset, while still maintaining their unique color.
Q. Which artist’s music are you currently listening to?
Yoonho: Recently, I’ve been listening to Babyface’s first album. I think he’s an awesome producer. I’ve been into old pop and old trends, so I’ve been listening to Babyface’s first album.
Changmin: Maroon 5′s “Pay Phone.”
Q. If you could do collaboration with any artists, who would it be? And why?
Yoonho: It’s difficult to choose who because they are great. I want to work with people who have a different style from us.
Changmin: I want to receive a song from Brian McKnight. I respect him.
Q. What is your favorite international food?
Yoonho: I personally like Korea’s food the best. Recently, I’ve really been liking soybean paste stew. I actually want to introduce everyone to our country’s food. The food that I want to suggest is Korean barbecue ribs. If you come to our country, please try it. I recommend it.
Changmin: If I were to only choose one, that is too cruel….honestly, I like everything ^^
Q. What do you think you would be doing if you were not an artist?
Yoonho: When I was younger, my dream was to become a prosecutor. I wanted to become a person that can give others order and hope. If I wasn’t able to become that, I might be traveling overseas and would have probably found out about countries, while studying.
Changmin: Someone who is preparing for employment?
Q. Would you tell us your marriage plan? And what would be the image of your future spouse?
Yoonho: I don’t have a special plan yet. I just think of becoming a good father. I hope that it could be a person with a bright personality, no matter what happens. Someone who can smile and overcome many circumstances.
Changmin: I don’t want to marry too late. I want to marry someone who is nice and pretty, but most importantly, someone who would be able to understand and accept me.
Future
Q. Could you tell us a little bit about your next album and how the preparation is going? (Concept, Music Video, Genre, Fashion, Choreography). Are you going to be collaborating with anyone? Any other surprises?
Yoonho: Our album is still in the works, but generally, we will work hard to show good images to everyone.
Q. You have had some experience performing in the U.S. with SMTOWN. What’s your view towards the U.S. market and do you have any plans to debut in the U.S.? If you come to the U.S., would you be willing to change your genre of music to fit the U.S. market?
Yoonho: The U.S. market can be called authentic, that is how large the market is. When we stood on the Madison Square Garden stage, I was happy and realized that this was possible. If there is a good opportunity for us to debut in the U.S., I want to do it. If we were to debut in the U.S., we would have to learn the language and customs. We want to send out greetings with our style.
Q. What is your ultimate goal as an artist?
Yoonho: We want to be artists where we can happily give dreams and hope to people. I gained dreams and hopes while watching Michael Jackson’s performance. Similar to that, I want to be an artist where our performances can give warmth and hope to others.
Changmin: I want to develop more today, than yesterday. Making a tomorrow that is better than today.
Q. What do you think will be in store for TVXQ when the group reaches their 30′s?
Yoonho: It seems like there wouldn’t be many changes, but we will have more experience and freedom. I think that will create a warmer feeling. Other than that, I think it will be similar. We will always try hard to show new images. By then, we will probably be more comfortable working and we’ll be able to show it on stage.
Changmin: Music that has freedom and fun, but one that also has passion
GREETINGS
Q. Could you please greet our KpopStarz readers in the U.S. and worldwide?
Yoonho: I’m glad that I was able to send my greetings with good news. For all the fans in the world, we will work hard to return the love with not only music, but we will try to also show our growth as humans. So, please continue to show us interest and love.
Changmin: Thank you for always supporting TVXQ~ we will work hard to come back with a cooler image and better music.
