A popular drama aired on Korea’s SBS, the complete DVD Box for drama “Paradise Ranch” starring Changmin (Tohoshinki) was released on 2 November.
With this, Changmin, who is acting as the lead in a drama for the first time, talks about his feelings when acting in this show, his favourite scenes, his ideal type of girl and newlywed-couple life in relation to the drama, his approach towards girls as well as the episode where Yunho visits him on set, in this official interview which has finally arrived.
◆ ◆ ◆
This is your first starring role in a drama, please tell us how you feel about your acting.
As drama is my first project, before the shooting I was already nervous. This is a kind of work I have never ever done before, so it was difficult. But when the shooting started, I got used to it after a while, and I could have fun with it. The location for the filming was really nice, so that was great too. As for the show, as this was my first challenge so I can’t say that I was confident but compared to my initial acting, thinking “If I did it this way, wouldn’t it better?” was how I decided to look at this.
How did you take on the role of Dong Joo?
I watched similar dramas, and observed characters that were similar to Dong Joo. I studied Korean dramas with contents about arguing with your partner and unknowingly coming to like the other person, such as “Fantasy Couple” and “Alone in Love.” I also searched for similarities between myself and Dong Joo, and tried to express that.
What are the similarities between yourself and Dong Joo?
Being straightforward in expressing our feelings, and being short-tempered, probably (Laughs). Dong Joo’s emotions fluctuate a lot, and I’m that type as well, and since we’re similar in that way, it was easier to act it out and that was good. Of course, I can’t say that Dong Joo and I are totally the same, but I don’t there was anything that was completely different about the both of us.
Please tell us if there were any scenes that were your favourite, or any lines that left a deep impression on you.
The scene were Dong Joo was changing clothes in Da Ji’s house. Da Ji came into Dong Joo’s room, and said “My father is coming so you have to hide!” This hiding scene. It was an interesting scene to act in. Even though I was half-naked (Laughs), it was a really comical scene so I really enjoyed it.
What was difficult (about shooting the drama)?
The shooting started in winter so it was really cold. In terms of scenes, it was the scene where I was calling my mother while drinking. I’ve never acted drunk before, but I was actually drinking wine as we did the shoot. I was drinking all the way since the morning, and I ended up drunk and that was really difficult. (laughs). However, it was a good experience.
Dong Joo and Yeon Hee had a very tumultuous newlywed-couple life, but please tell us about your ideal girl and newlywed-couple life.
I think that as Dong Joo and Yeon Hee are first loves, and they couldn’t do anything, and couldn’t do without each other, a mutually-dependent existence. They are young so they are optimistic and passionate, but I don’t think you need to keep being that way. For me, although it is important to treat your partner kindly and consider their feelings, having a friend-like relationship is good. Although we will argue, be it going out and having fun, or interests and other things should be shared as well. As for my ideal girl, a reliable girl would be good. This job (of mine) is full of instability, so I think that having a girl who can help me remain composed would be great. Someone feminine and cheerful would be nice.
Dong Joo wavers between Yeon Hee and Jin Young, but for you (Changmin) who would you pick between the two of them?
To be honest, I want to add the both of them together then split it into half (laughs). Basically, I don’t want to give up either of them. Jin Young is a woman that any man would yearn for. She’s a good career woman, and initially it wasn’t the case by in the end, she helps to protect Dong Joo. This kind of woman is probably the dream of any man. For Da Ji, compared to Jin Young, she has more energy and is not as feminine but more…like an auntie? (Laughs) However, for me, that is her charm, and I feel that she is very reliable. Even though they aren’t sure of their mutual feelings, aren’t they still dependent on each other?
Dong Joo is a character that doesn’t express his true feelings for Da Ji, saying nasty things to her all the time, but for Changmin, what is your approach towards a girl that you like?
I won’t do it like Dong Joo, who says nasty things and bullies his partner even though he likes her. I won’t fool around, and I won’t try to analyze her thoughts. Rather, I think my approach would be instinctive, and just being myself. From a girl’s point of view, I think I would be easy to get along with. (Laughs)
During filming, it seems that Yunho went to the shooting location in Jeju island to visit you, so please tell us about any episodes during that time. Also, did you get any advice from Yunho, or any feedback with regards to the drama?
I said “Don’t come, don’t come,” but he stubbornly came anyway…. What Yunho had told be before filming was, to do it naturally and not be nervous, and he said a lot of things. As for watching this drama…we didn’t give any actual feedback to each other regarding each of our dramas, but he said “It was interesting, and good.”
So you and Yunho be performing together as actors in the future?
No. (Laughs) I do feel that I want to show everyone “Changmin” as an actor, but when it’s the two of us, we become Tohoshinki, don’t we.. I only just started acting, so I can’t say that I want to see this, but from now on I will work even harder to improve my acting, and show everyone various sides of me.
This was your first challenge in acting, and what is the difference between acting and singing activities? Also, do you see any changes in yourself, or any improvements etc in your activities as a singer?
Putting your feelings into it and expressing yourself is the same. However, in a song, you express one feeling for about 3 to 6 minutes, whereas in acting you have to naturally express all the little changes in emotions that you see in everyday life. It’s different from singing, and it was difficult. After actually trying it out, I think my range of expressions has increased, and this was really useful.
This drama is a love comedy, what kind of genre do you wish to challenge in a drama or movie in the future?
In the future if I have an chance to act, I will definitely give this challenge a try. In terms of genre, I always liked romantic comedies so I wanted to try it, and also a story about youths around my age, with a school as a setting, a school drama is something I would like to try.
Is there a place like “Paradise Ranch” or a time where you can recuperate from your busy everyday life?
After the day is over, I drink beer. This beer is a reward to myself, which says “Ah~ It’s over! I worked really hard today.”
Please leave a message to all your Japanese fans, about watching Paradise Ranch, or about your future plans etc.
Not just the lead actors, but everyone who appeared in the show disregarded their own feelings and worked dutifully. As this is a story that talks about a pure, straight love without limits, please watch it. Also, not only is it funny, the setting is set in the beautiful Jeju Island, and I think its a drama which you can enjoy and relax with. I hope that this winter, this drama will be able to warm your hearts.

JYJ member Kim Junsu expressed his feelings about holding solo concerts in Europe.
On the afternoon of the 5th of November, a day before JYJ’s concert in Berlin, Germany, Kim Junsu spoke to YTN TV’s “Newswide” via a live telephone broadcast and said, “Because we’ve already performed once in Barcelona, the nervousness and excitement we felt then has carried through (to our Berlin concert).”
When asked if he “felt any hints of JYJ’s popularity in the country,” Kim Junsu replied, “Although I wasn’t able to go sightseeing a lot, I did manage to walk around a little. I was very surprised and thankful to see our posters up around the city and to have more people recognize me than I’d expected. This makes us want to work harder and present an even better side of ourselves to everyone.”
He also added, “The reaction we received in Spain was as passionate as the country itself. I believe it was more of ‘those fans drawing forth a greater strength from us than we thought we had ‘ than a product of us working really hard.“
JYJ, who completed their solo concert in Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi on the 29th of October, will be holding their next concert in Berlin’s Tempodrom on the 6th of November.

JYJ has successfully taken their first step into Europe with a successful concert, partying it up with 3,000 fans on 29 October at Poble Espanyol, ending the Spain leg of their European tour in triumph. This day, JYJ and the 3,000 fans became one, enjoying this historical moment of JYJ’s first European concert together.
On 28 October, at the same location, a Korean-Spanish press conference was held, and JYJ spoke honestly about their feelings, worries as well as the gratitude in their hearts. Following their concerts in Asia and America, this is their first concert in Europe, and is also the first time a Korean artist has ever held a solo concert in Spain.
“Hoping To Go To More Places, And Show More Of Ourselves To Everyone”
When talking about his feelings on this concert in Spain, Park Yoochun said “It’s the same feeling as when(we were) going to America for concerts, a greed of wanting to go to more places, and show more of ourselves to everyone. When we were in America, I felt a sense of hope as my eyes were opened to new possibilities, and we feel the same way about Europe.“
Following which, he said “Honestly speaking, it’s been hard to gauge how much influence JYJ will have in Europe. However, starting in Spain and Germany feels like we’ve created a stepping stone to slowly but steadily getting JYJ’s name out there. This may not be a large-scale concert like those held in Asia, but this concert is our motivation and in our hearts, we feel that we could possibly hold concerts on the big stages of Europe and America in the future.“
After the concert in Spain is concluded, JYJ will be holding their second European concert in Berlin, Germany on 6 November.
With regards to the selection of Spain and Germany as the European concert locations, Junsu said, “Although it would be great to be able to hold concerts in all parts of Europe, this is still not possible (as of now.) We still do not know the degree of our influence here, and instead of just challenging it in an unreasonable manner, we felt that it would be better to do this in a geographical manner, gathering the fans in Western Europe to Spain, and those in Eastern Europe to Berlin. We want to say that in the future, when we do concerts in Europe for a second time, it could be possible to include more countries, and hold more concerts for everyone to see,” his words brimming with anticipation for the future.
When the reporters asked, “Was anything special prepared for the Spanish Stage?” Kim Jaejoong replied “We are working together with local dance group Rafa Mendez’s dancers, and we’re working on the choreography together to do a simple performance. Even though JYJ already has the basic dances, we’ve prepared a concert that includes the passionate performance methods unique to the Spanish as well as a skillful stage with acrobatics.”
“More People Than Expected Knew About Us, Gave Us A Shock”
During the time of the press conference, fans could already be seen a day before the concert, setting up tents outside the gates of Poble Espanyol. These fans carried the flags of Italy, France and other countries and cheered for JYJ. A concert management personnel said that these fans were willing to stay out overnight so that they could get better seats for the concert.
On the topic of whether they could feel their popularity in Europe, Kim Junsu said, “There were more fans than expected, which was a shock. Actually, we all knew that Spain was a country that was famous for its football, but we didn’t know very much beyond that, so when we found out that the (concert) tickets were sold out, we were shocked. “
“Yesterday I went out and walked around for the first time, and quite a few people recognised me which was another shock. There were two (people) at Starbucks, and when I was walking on the streets I was recognised two or three times, once by an Italian fan who was holding our CD and was hoping for my signature, it was truly amazing. Because of this, I’m even more determined to do well during the Barcelona and Berlin concerts. “
– How do you feel about standing on a stage that is smaller than your previous ones?
(Kim Jaejoong) Although this stage is smaller than previous ones, it bears a totally different meaning. In Korea and Japan, we started from small stages, and slowly gained the love of our fans. Therefore, although this European concert stage is small, it still feels like a very good starting point. Instead of creating an overly exaggerated large-scale concert in Europe, beginning with a small-scale stage with the mindset of starting afresh seems like a better idea.
– K-Pop has been relatively popular in America, as well as Paris, but the popularity of K-Pop in Spain doesn’t seem as visible, so is this a fear or burden to you?
(Kim Jaejoong) I wouldn’t call it a K-POP boom, but a K-POP craze that was created from the Korean groups’ fanbases that rose up. The majority of the 3,000 or so fans that have come for the Barcelona concert are probably JYJ fans. Therefore, I hope that they can sing along to our Korean songs, and are looking forward to a Korean style performance. Because of this, there isn’t any real burden or pressure.
– As the first Korean group to hold a concert in Europe, surely some mental preparation was required.
(Kim Junsu) I think this is an adequate opportunity for us to show that small-scale performances are feasible and it doesn’t always have to be a concert by a big agency. During the Asian concerts, we would work with local dancers, and stacked up some experience on overseas performances. As these are fans who have come for K-pop, we have to consider carefully what kind of European elements to include, what kind of effect it will have and we hope to show a multi-faceted side to everyone.
“Although Japan Was Challenged Using J-Pop, The Battle In Europe Is With K-Pop”
– You are starting with small steps in Europe, but the small starting steps you took in Japan resulted in immense popularity. Although these are just small steps, what is your broad aim for the future?
(Kim Junsu) In Europe, it’s K-pop, and we are hallyu (representatives) here. In Japan we always hoped to work hard as J-pop artists, and the starting steps we took are different to that of the steps taken currently by Korean artists entering Japan. When we were rookies in Japan, we stood on a staircase, or on makeshift stages, holding corded microphones while singing and dancing, and these were the ways that we performed. Because of this, I think that our starting steps in Europe differ from that of Japan. Although the process is important, the results produced are important as well. Therefore, we hope that someday, we will have the chance to hold a concert in a venue with 10,000 seats or more. With this kind of thinking, I believe that to do this, we should focus on what our European fans want from us.
– We heard that you took the No. 1 spot on a Peruvian radio (Recently, JYJ took the no. 1 spot on the Peruvian program “Teen Top”)
(Kim Jaejoong) We heard about that, and for people to be able to listen to our music, and like our music, is something that makes us feel really good, and we are really thankful. For those countries that we have not yet been to, we hope that one day, we will be able to go to there and sing. Before this concert in Spain, we attended a global manga event, and I think it was a good opportunity for us to perform on a celebratory stage and sing our songs for a larger audience.
– The worldwide album was released in Spain as well, do you have plans for a second worldwide album?
(Kim Jaejoong) We’re in the middle of discussions about this. The worldwide album that was released last year received a great response, so we’re currently planning for a second album. There are still many countries that K-pop artists have yet to reach, and we want them to be able to listen to our music. However, due to time constraints, this has not been easy. We’ve been on a world tour and each of us has participated in individual activities. I often feel that there really isn’t enough time, and I often think, “How good would it be if there were 24 months in a year.”
– Compared to the concerts in America, will this Spanish concert be any different?
(Kim Junsu) There isn’t much change in the set list, but the dance and various elements have been tweaked with acrobatics. The reason why we didn’t make any special changes to the concert set list was due to the fact that the Spanish and European fans are seeing us for the first time, so there is no need for too much of a change. It’s going to be a concert that shows the unique colors of JYJ.
“Intensive Choreography And Live Singing Performances, These Are The Key Elements Of K-Pop.”
– What do you think are the key reasons why K-Pop has been able to enter Europe and become popular?
(Kim Jaejoong) I heard that it was in 2006 that K-pop made its way into Europe, and that was around the time that we were active as TVXQ, and synchronized group dances were all the rage in Korea. The charm of Korean artists being able to do intensive dance performances while singing live probably attracted fans from then on, and this has slowly become its popularity today.
– When producing the Worldwide album, you worked with Kanye West and Rodney Jerkins and others. Have you considered working with music producers from Europe?
(Kim Jaejoong) I’ve heard and studied a lot of European music, and I really like it. When doing activities in Japan, about 50% or more of our songs were European style music. We would buy European music and sing it at times so it’s quite familiar to us. If we’re lucky enough to get to know some European producers, we would definitely want to try it out. Although there isn’t much time for this during our concerts in Europe, we would definitely want to try it out in the future.
– You’ve done activities in Asia, America and Europe, and your music is known in counties that even Korean singers don’t know much about. And yet, it’s so hard to see you perform in Korea.
(Park Yoochun) Honestly speaking, being able to appear on programs is not something we think about anymore. I just wish for the system to be more fair. We know that we can’t do anything about the fact that we are excluded from ranking charts, but I would like for the objective value of album sales and the love we receive from the public to be recognized, to repay our fans for their love.
– After the concerts in Spain and Germany, what are your plans for the future?
(Kim Jaejoong) We hope to go more places, in Europe, aside from Spain and Germany. If we have other plans, we hope that we can go to other European countries, other cities and if we have time in the future, we hope to come back to Spain and Germany to hold (events) and thank the fans. In December, we’ll be having a rest period, but it would be a waste of time to just relax and take a break, so I think we’ll be working on some music and preparing for January, 2012.

Heart still thumping…
The fan sign today was arranged by giving out numbers.
Arrived earlier than expected, and though it’s not the first row, it was quite in front. Tomorrow should be arranged by numberings as well…
After getting the number ticket, I waited at the hall and unexpectedly saw Yoochun and Junsu who came in.
Although I have seen their photos before, they are really handsome. T T
Photos are only half evident of how handsome they are.
Yoochun wore a coat with swept hair and a pair of characteristic specs… hahaha
Not sure if it is my own feeling, I exchanged glances with Yoochun a few times.
When our eyes meet, Yoochun did not look away but stared intensely…
Yoochun ah…. such a great person….
I’m not good with writing, keke, I shall write down their conversations as a fan account.
(Although I recorded the audio, I don’t know what went wrong… I realized it only after I heard it, the conversations were cut into segments… The important parts, some were saved and I shall upload it some other time.)
This was written by my own memories and the spoilt audio recording.
——————
Firstly,
Upon entering, Yoochun is very lively and the duo’s feelings were great.
They smiled sweetly and greeted. keke.
JS: It’s been a long time for a fan sign event right? As it’s been too long, I’m excited yet nervous… To be able to see each other up close is really good.
YC: Junsu’s words were nothing unique (T/N: as usual i.e.), right? (fans laughed)
JS: There’s nothing new but it’s my true words!
YC: Oh… sorry… keke
(T/N: Some of the conversations might not link, as per what the fan said that her audio recording has errors.)
YC: But we saw these messages on the net. Some bought 30 copies and was not able to come. Some bought one copy and was able to come.
JS: This is luck, I guess. Keke. Just like everyone here. It’s my pleasure to have a fan sign event with everyone like this.
(fans applauded)
YC: Jaejoong hyung is not here today… we heard a lot of rumors (from various sources)
JS: There’s a rumor that we purposely did not let him come… It’s definitely not like this. He has something to do… Erm? Did somebody from the front just sighed? Kekeke~ It’s (T/N: JJ’s not coming) not due to something bad that happened.
YC: It was two people during the previous fan sign event too, isn’t it?
JS: No, it was (you) with Jaejoong hyung, two of you, ke ke ke, I didn’t join in due to musical involvement.
YC: It felt so good that time.
JS: Eh? Why? Because I’m not there? Keke
Both of them laughing away.
Fans: (out of a sudden) Make a call! International phone call!
YC: If you all would pay for the international roaming charges… kekeke
Fans: We’ll pay!!! We’ll pay!
Both smiled and silence….
JS: Any questions for us? Kekeke~ We did not intend to accept questions today thus if there are awkward questions, we’ll reject answering, okay? Keke.
Fan’s question 1: At the concert in Japan, when Yoochun filmed Junsu, he said, “Oh? So big!” What does it mean?
JS: (immediately) This is an awkward question, PASS!
Fan’s question 3 (T/N: yes, it was written as 3): Have Yoochun oppa finished the game?
YC: Probably everyone could not see, but my eyes are blood-shot right now. I have been playing for 38hrs… currently 60% done.
JS: When we met at the shop today, he said he played till morning. Yoochun has been a enthusiastic player of Legend of Zelda. During our Japanese activities’ days, I saw him playing this frequently. But he said he will stop for a while. keke. Said that it’s too difficult.
YC: I think that professional gamers are very powerful. I salute them.
JS: My friend is a professional gamer and to them it’s not a game but a job. Anything is never easy.
Fan’s question 4: I’m sorry to ask this from the start, but can Junsu do Angel Xiah?
JS: T T T T…. This is old trick of mine already. Let’s have Yoochun! Kekeke~ Let us see Angel Yoochun~
YC (with a face of ‘huh?): I can’t do it… I have never been an angel since high school…
JS: Then let us see Devil Yoochun! Keke~ If Yoochun do it, I will do it. Come, get ready your expression, Keke~
Yoochun with a face of “Why should I do it?” and smiled, looking at Junsu.
Fans did not back down and keep pleading. Just once more, once more.
Of course, I’m one of them as well. Kekeke~
Junsu still did the Angel Xiah pose in the end.
Yoochun looked at Junsu who was being teased by fans, and smiled.
Fan’s question 5: When will there be activity in Korea (as in concert etc.)?
YC: Korea? Hmm… it’s still unconfirmed… Although it’s still unconfirmed, but might be before the year ends. Probably… End of December or roughly there. Although it’s still in consideration but it’s not yet fixed. Plus there’s things to settle…
Fans: Larger scale! Ticket sales!
YC: Erm… if were to hold a concert and has to be large scaled… Hmm… how about (held) at the road to University for just 5 people? Kekeke~ For (accommodation of) 5 people only~ (T/N: He meant that the place is only big enough for 5 people.)
Fans: Ah!!!!!!!!!!!
Fan’s question 7: You all were so popular with South American fans, Asian fans, (and worldwide fans), what’s your plan in the future?
This fan behaved and asked in a very reporter-way. Everyone laughed….
YC: Is that laptop switched on? Kekeke (As though he is facing a reporter.)
Applauded.
Then both of them did not talk for a while… silence…
JS: Hmm… there’s a lot of plans… but not all matters are easy to handle with. There are a lot of times where things are confirmed and yet cancelled. To us, these are hope and encouragement. But when talking to everyone, we have to be cautious a bit. Just like what was said, before the end of this year, we will try our best to create a chance to meet everyone. If possible, we will release our second worldwide album next year. In the mid of it, we might have solo activities. Hm… just these. Ok? Keke.
After the questions, they began to sign.
The line up is Junsu, then Yoochun.
The two were feeling great during the fan sign.
I have been observing, if asked for it, Yoochun would shake hands with.
Time for me to go.
Upon reaching Yoochun, the atmosphere around him….
He was very gentle and considerate… but he signed very fast… Isn’t it a bit too fast? T T
YC: Your name is?
Me: Li~~
Yoochun signed…
Me: Are you happy recently?
YC: Hm?
Me: You looked very happy recently, thus I’m happy too.
Yoochun was signing without any expression initially but looked up after hearing this.
YC: Very blessed. ^^ I’ve been doing very well.
He smiled happily while saying this.
The strength of these words were stronger than any other hundred words, not kidding.
I almost fainted…
I like Yoochun… no, it’s love. Although it’s only a short time, my heart, kwang….
Please don’t smile to me like that~
My autograph was done very fast but strong.
I went back to my seat, thinking of Yoochun’s “I’m very blessed!”, felt so touched.
The fans today were very polite and well-mannered…
(Fans, you did well.)
The fan sign event’s atmosphere was very warm-hearted… he himself was warm-hearted.
Crazy fans kekeke~
Park (YC) and Kim (JS) were very calm but the fans were excited.
Applauded, teased/cheered, kekeke~ Yoochun and Junsu smiled.
Fan’s question: The two of you walked through from youth till now… was there a side where you saw and realized, hey this kid grew up! Or, he’s still the same!
Everyone like this question.
It is a heartwarming question.
JS: Erm… first, given the same circumstances, rather than saying Yoochun’s reaction changed, I would say it got better. Be it his expressions, or actions, it became more relaxed. In the past, Yoochun often smiled in TV programs but he would sometimes be gloomy off-camera. It got better recently and he smiled a lot more in private. It was really amazing and (I) was very happy.
Just when he was saying warmheartedly about Yoochun’s positive traits and changes, fans suddenly asked about his negative traits.
Fans: (Yoochun’s) Shortcomings!
JS: Mm? Yoochun’s? Nothing negative.
Fans: Oh~ Eh~ Keke~
JS: It is that way! Good looking~ Sings well~ Knows how to compose~ Good in sports too~ (his tone is filled with love and fans were “oh~” ) Ah~ there’s a shortcoming that can’t be changed! Forehead? Kekeke~
Fans burst out laughing.
JS: Forehead can’t be changed and it actually upgraded. Keke~ This should be a good thing, able to see the age lines soon. kekeke~ Haha
Time for Yoochun to answer.
YC: Firstly, I like my forehead a lot. Keke~ For Junsu’s, when being active as an artiste, various… even not being an artiste, anyone has their own way to be relaxed. If weren’t able to do that, it would be troublesome. But Junsu did that aspect very well.
Fans: Huh? (Don’t understand)
YC: (Upon facing problems) He has his own way to solve his problems… That is, he has many ways to make himself feels good… erm, although I can’t be there… but, he always asked me to go play soccer… kekeke
JS: (abruptly) I always asked him along! But he won’t come.
YC: No, if it’s only Junsu, I would definitely go but there’s other artistes as well… it’s a bit awkward.
JS: Ah~ if Yoochun would come, I would not ask other artistes along then. (he said it earnestly.)
YC: Actually… isn’t there a lot of fans in the audience?
JS: Ah~ keke~ the training matches. There are private matches as well, just come for that!
YC smiled and didn’t answer.
JS looked at YC: “See, it’s him who doesn’t wants to come. Yoochun loves to exercise, probably he has some psychological barriers… afraid that he won’t do well.
YC: I have no confidence in soccer. I prefer baseball or basketball.
JS: Then you should create a basketball team one day. He’s very good with basketball. Put me in the team as well.
YC: Erm… I…. will work hard with my current work.
Yoochun who kept avoiding till the end. Kekeke.
Fans: Oppa, can you say a line (from drama or musical)?
YC: Erm, I shall choose one from Junsu’s musical that left me a deep impression, ‘That Tiger…!’ (It was a line where Junsu pointed to the tiger and said during the last day of Tears Of Heaven.)
But how did Yoochun knew about this? Or Junsu told him?
JS: Then, let’s have one from Ripley.
YC: Sorry about that… (The fans in front shouted Penzal!!) Penzal? Upon recording, I didn’t intend to say that but the advertisement company hoped to have that line included.
JS: Don’t you find it funny? Kekeke~ So funny, kekeke~ To say it alone. Keke.
Fans: Please say it!
YC: How was it said?
Fans: Don’t feel painful~! Fool!
YC: Let me think about it first.
YC: Everyone, if there’s any rumors, remember to eat (Penzal Q) only when you feel painful!
Lastly are the words to fans.
YC: Fans gave us a lot of support and encouragement… We also have expressed our feelings for fans through words… What we can do… Honestly… Only through words “Will work hard!” or “Will work hard to do the best!”. No matter said it how many times, it feels that the people who will believe in these words are minority. The majority just listened to it. In a daily conversation… it’s just a sentence. The best repayment to fans, really, no matter if it’s individual activities or JYJ’s activities… Now we have prepared a recording studio and a training studio, stages like these, was it the best repayment to fans…. we are still working hard and hopefully everyone can support us. Thank you.
(Yoochun meant that rather than using words to express his thanks, the best repayment is through actions and the various live stages.)

[Trans] “I Love JK” TVXQ’s Interview on TONE while they were in Beijing
credit: Get Beginning
Host: From the start, let’s introduce TVXQ and this is their latest Japanese album. This album reaches 200 thousand sales during the first week of release and attained the first place on the charts. This is the first album for Yunho and Changmin and the results through the release of this album gave the duo a confidence boost. Yes, that’s right. For this album, there are unique designs within the album packagings. I’m going to introduce to everyone in today’s programme and what are the unique designs? These are the 3 versions of the albums that were not released in Taiwan. Red, Blue and Yellow. When we placed the three together, we’ll get something amazing. What’s that? See, right here. What is written there? “It Is My Way.” It can only be seen when you piled them together. It’s quite a special design. There’s a card inside the album too which I’ll introduce to you all later. Let’s now take a look when they arrived in Beijing and though their stay was not that long, we managed to arrange an interview from them. We really did our best to get this interview and though the (interview) was short, please support us and now let’s take a look at the interview.
TVXQ: Hello, we are TVXQ (in Chinese)
YH: Hi, I’m Yunho. (in Chinese)
CM: Hi, I’m Changmin. (in Chinese)
About new album
YH:First of all, we released an album in Korea after a long while. Therefore we had a chance to meet with Japanese fans. This album was prepared with great work and we anticipate fans’ responses. We involved a lot of our feelings in this album and were done with a heart of thankfulness. Thus we hoped that fans will be able to hear our improvement while listening to this album.
Japanese album released in Taiwan
CM:For this album.. This album is named TONE. There are various meaning to it, eg. sound, color etc. When we first heard of this title and knew of the various meaning when used differently. As an singer, if we are able to control the various tone, it should be the best joy, isn’t it? To name this album as TONE, and in this album, other than the ballads and dance numbers we are used to, we tried something that’s similar to a fast tempo band-type and club music etc. As we tried various music genres, it is an album that’s worth everyone’s attention.
About the good sales results of the Japanese album
YH: Firstly, we want to thank everyone and other than loving TVXQ, we enjoy our work and would like to close up the distance between our fans and us. Hopefully everyone will listen to our songs and we will become an even more hardworking TVXQ.
About TONE’s train
CM: When we heard about this, we felt that it’s very novel. When I saw the photos on the net, I really wish to go there and take a commemorative photo myself. However due to some problems and time issue, I wasn’t able to do it. If I had the chance, I would like to take a ride on that train.
Any plans for performances in Taiwan?
YH: To be honest, there’s no confirmed plan as of now. But next year, there’s a plan for Asia Tour and it’s still under discussion. We’ll let Taiwanese fans know if it’s confirmed. Maybe in the near future, the good news will arrive.
TVXQ: You are currently watching, I Love JK. (in chinese)
Host: This interview was done in Beijing recently where TVXQ went for a fan meeting and we managed to get an interview for everyone. Hopefully everyone enjoyed it. Let’s continue to introduce the album. There’s a card inside each album and let’s see what we’ve got. It’s about the size of the album and this is Yunho and Changmin’s. Next, this is also a duo photo. Next we had Changmin’s solo photo, Changmin’s again, then Yunho’s, Yunho’s and duo photo. This is their card in the album and now let’s introduce a song from this album, B.U.T.

The first Korean album that JYJ have released is in fact, a letter from them. JYJ’s first Korean album contains all the honest stories that they have wanted to talk about but have been unable to do so till now. Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu wrote down the emotions they felt as they traversed the dark tunnel which seemed to have no end and created lyrics from these words. The times of suffering have made them the hardworking people they are now, and have given birth to an album filled with their compositions. The members of JYJ, who we met at the press conference to commemorate the release of their first Korean special album ‘In Heaven’, opened and looked closely at the that they had created. Kim Junsu said it was ‘a gem-like album’, while Kim Jaejoong described it as ‘a code-like album’. The illustrious results are in their hands but they still do not know where the end of the tunnel is. But, what’s important is that it’s slowly but surely getting better. We reveal the story of JYJ, arranged in keywords to express the stories they wished to tell.
‘In Heaven’: (Jaejoong) It’s an album that contains the memories and the inside story of the past two years. While I’m proud of the fact that so many of our compositions are included in the album, I know it’s an album that elicits a lot of memories. We were unable to appear on broadcasted programs due to unavoidable circumstances, and the only way we could approach our fans and the masses was through concerts. The compositions within the album are songs that were more for our concerts than for creating an album, and that fills me with emotions.
A code-like message: (Jaejoong) There’s a message in most of the songs. There are some lyrics that voice our honest stories in a 100% straight manner, while there are some that beat around the bush as we can’t say what we really want to say. But no matter how much we beat around the bush, I’m sure if you’ve been wish us till now, you’ll think our inside story as you listen to the songs. On the other hand, the regular person will just hear the lyrics for what they are. That’s why this album is a code-like album.
Producer JYJ: (Jaejoong) We work well together. I know the strengths and weaknesses of these friends really well because we’ve spent so much time together. I don’t necessarily need to ask for what purpose the parts in a member’s composition were distributed the way they were to know their intent. (Junsu) When I write a song, I always ask the members for their opinion on it. In that process, we’re able to pick up on things that I wouldn’t have been able to think of by myself. Because we trust each other as musicians, we accommodate to each other’s opinions and move in a direction that will show JYJ’s color.
Fallen Leaves: (Junsu) It’s a song I wrote right after the musical ‘Mozart!’ ended. I wrote the lyrics for the song around two or three o’clock in the morning while we were in Taiwan, and I expressed through music the emotions I had wanted to talk about but hadn’t been able to express in words. The ‘Start over’ in the refrain at the very end was initially intended to be sung just once. But I wanted to express it in the voices of our members, so Yoochun sang it once, Jaejoong sang it once and I sang it once. We sang it a total of three times. The ‘Start over’ in the lyrics of ‘Fallen Leaves’ was the message I most wanted to voice to the public.
JYJ’s Color: (Junsu) I don’t want to choose one specific color for us. We aren’t biased towards a specific genre, and we try to express the exact emotions that we feel at the moment. We want to take on a variety of genres. I don’t know what other genres we’ll take on in the future, and I think our future color will be one in which a variety of musical genres are naturally integrated with JYJ.
KBS’s review is unqualified: (Jaejoong) Because tracks of an album that aren’t the title song often fail to pass the review, I didn’t feel offended when I first received the news. But the problem is ‘why the song failed to pass the review’. They laid down the verdict that the song was unsuitable for airing because of a word that they made an assumption about and made up without asking the creator for the actual meaning. To mark something off in the way they want and to give a notice of this is disrespecting the creator.
P.S.M: (Jaejoong) It means Performer Success Museum. Everyone wants to find success in their lives. But it is only possible to succeed by receiving help or education from institutions or borrowing the strength of others. For example, if we assume that schools or private educational institutes are museums that make you successful, then the people within these institutes lie to the people who are looking for hope. They say, ‘We don’t care about the materialistic things, we just want to help you’. That’s what it means.
Concert: (Jaejoong) When we hold our concerts, we deliberately try to put in as much time to talk as possible. It’s to the extent that one could ask ‘Is this a concert or a fanmeet?’ We don’t have many outlets in which we can communicate with our fans. By choosing to focus our activities on concerts, we keep increasing the number of songs we have and present these to our fans, and we try to have as many conversations as possible with them. It’s like we vent out our emotions in front of our fans. Though we decided on a theme for every concert, we end up ignoring that theme because we talk so much and we start joking around. (laughter)
Solo Concert in Europe: (Yoochun) Though we’re holding a tour in Europe, we won’t change our color and style just because the venue of our concert has changed. We try to integrate JYJ’s color in the culture of these countries. (Junsu) Even when we had our North American tour in Canada and the LA, San Francisco and New Jersey regions, we felt this great sense of pressure like we do now for our Europe tour. But once we actually got to the concert venue, we saw that there were more fans who had waited for us than we had expected. Though we’re worried, we try to think of it in a positive way.We think of the fact that we’ve gotten this far as a miracle, and we hope that another miracle will ensue.
Director Kim Jaejoong: (Jaejoong) I like to meddle in things a lot. If something’s even a little out-of-place, I try to set it straight so I keep butting in. That’s how I started directing. Even with our music, I went from saying ‘I don’t like the lyrics’ to ‘Let me write them’. And when I wrote lyrics that were suitable, that’s how I began writing my own lyrics, and I have a lot of small greeds that I wish to fulfill.
Yunho, Changmin: (Jaejoong) They often appear in our dreams. Once, all three of us dreamt of them on the same night. I think a considerably large amount of time has passed. Though the misunderstandings that came about because of the time and distance we’ve spent apart may take more time to unravel, shall I say that for us, a lot of it has already disappeared? We want to meet with them and talk, just once.

Kim Jaejoong
Heodang (Lacking): Though Cha Mu Won of ‘Protect the Boss’ is a chaebol, there is definitely something he can’t do. His weakness is that he’s not good at fighting because all he does is lock himself up in his office and study. I expressed that in a very ‘heodang (lacking)’ way. I’m like that too. Because I’m not that active, I’m not that good at ball games. In the drama, I was made to look like I was even really good at sports, but in real life, I have a very ‘heodang’ nature. (Yoochun) I think it would be best.. if Jaejoong didn’t play ball games like soccer or basketball in front of others. (laughter)
Ji Sung: Even I could see myself getting better with every new episode. It would have been impossible if it weren’t for Ji Sung. He must have been busy enough studying his own character, but he took care of me and helped me run my lines. I think the scenes in which we were acting together came alive because I normally feel comfortable around Ji Sung.
Individual Activities: As you all know, we started pursuing individual activities to promote JYJ as we were unable to appear on music programs. Our individual activities became a great opportunity for us to promote JYJ. It started like that but we feel the charm of being an actor or a musical actor more and more as time goes on. (Yoochun) But personally, I don’t feel confident about pursuing a career in musicals. I think I’d be compared too much to Junsu. (laughter)
Park Yoochun
Cha Mu Won (Kim Jaejoong) of ‘Protect the Boss’: He took on his character very well. I found myself naturally falling into the drama as I watched it. I also feel envious of Jaejoong because he took on a character that could present something different from his original image and did so very well. It’s so much that if I ever get the chance, I’d like to play a character similar to the one that Jaejoong portrayed. I’m not joking when I saw that I could see this unknown aura around Jaejoong. So I thought, ‘So this is the power of Jaejoong. (Jaejoong) Thank you. My senior~
Song Yoo Hyun: While playing Song Yoo Hyun in MBC’s ‘Miss Ripley’, there were many moments when I thought, ‘If this were me, I would have exploded.’ But I acted with the understanding that, ‘It could happen because it’s Song Yoo Hyun.’ Though I can’t say that there weren’t moments when I felt frustrated, I laid down the judgment that it was because I was too unskilled in my portrayal of Song Yoo Hyun. If I felt frustrated, wouldn’t Song Yoo Hyun feel a little frustrated too? It was only after I was done filming the drama that I began to think ‘Couldn’t I have been able to express this in another way?’ instead of thinking that the script wasn’t helping with the frustration I had.
The villain’s part: I want to try playing the villain. I think the biggest reason is because I don’t look like a bad guy. Though I want to try taking on a role that pulls me away from the image I have now, I think it would only be right for me to take on such a role after I’ve become more experienced. For now, I want to try everything, regardless of the character.
Kim Junsu
Drama: It’s not that I’m not interested, it’s just that I had already taken part in two musicals this year and wanted to take a break instead of pursuing solo activities. And because each of the other members had his own schedules drawn for his respective drama, I believed it was only right for me to take that time to support them. I’d like to try acting in a drama someday. But it looked so tiring for Jaejoong and Yoochun to stay up all night filming, so I’m in a dilemma.
Together: We try to make every stage one that everyone can enjoy together. We don’t just show what we want to show and end the concert when we’re done, we try to work together with the crowd. We casually ask how they’re doing, and we immediately answer any questions they give us. Because there are a lot of restrictions on our activities that include broadcasted ones, we try to create a more free atmosphere when we meet with our fans and we work hard to satisfy them with our concerts. Though we like dramas and musicals, we started out as singers and we want to be singers forever.
