JYJâs Kim Junsu opens his âIncredibleâ Asia Tour in Bangkok, Thailand
âJunsu! Junsu! Junsu!â
On the 20th, the 3,000 fans gathered at the Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand shouted these two syllables âJunsuâ as loud as they could.
When the lights darkened and the instrumental of his last album âTarantallegraâ began playing, their shouts only intensified, switching quickly to âHey! Hey!â to go along with the song.
Although the song was in Korean, a language that is quite foreign to them, the fans followed along with the cheers to greet the nightâs star to their country.
This set the scene for JYJ Kim Junsu (26)âs first concert in Bangkok, Thailand for his second Asia Tour âIncredibleâ.
Fans held picket signs that read âXIA Daebak (Big Hit)â, handed out by local fansites such as âJYJ Boxâ and âCoconut Xiaâ, and packed the venue. A sea of red rises up and down as fans hold red fanlights, JYJâs color.
What stuck out was the fact that the concert venue was filled with teens, middle-aged parents with their children, and Koreans living in Thailand.
The dayâs concert was the first event since the singerâs âIncredibleâ showcase on the 15th.
After greeting his fans in Thai with a âSawadikap (Hello)â, Kim Junsu said, âIâve decided to kick off my tour with songs from my first and second album. Thailand has more passion than any other place I know. Iâll go all the way today.â
With a video that showed him shyly admitting his feelings to someone, he returned to the stage with a pink suit on to perform âIâm Confessing To You Right Now, Okay?â, âChocolate Girlâ, that has a sound as sweet as its name, and âNo Reasonâ, which featured an erotic performance with the female dancers on a sofa.
Though there werenât any âeye-poppingâ special effects, Kim Junsu filled the stage with ballads that showcased his amazing vocal talents with âDonât Goâ and â11 oâclockâ.
Fans didnât let a single moment pass them by, whether Kim Junsu was drinking water, or had his veins popping on his neck as he sang the soulful âRainy Eyesâ, or was wiping the sweat off himself with a towel.
Fans could also hear the singer perform familiar drama OSTs such as âLove is like a Snowflakeâ from âNice Guyâ, and âFoolish Heartâ from âChunmyungâ.
At his fansâ request, Kim Junsu sang the âGwiyomi (Cutie) Songâ, starting with â1 plus 1 is Gwiyomiâ and also performed Ayakaâs âMinna Sorano Shitaâ and Song Joong Kiâs âNice Guyâ OST âReallyâ without an instrumental, which was met with thunderous applause from the crowd.
The short videos that had been prepared in between the performances were another sight to see. The road that âSinger Kim Junsuâ has walked down was shown through pictures from his childhood and trainee days, and Thai subtitles ensured that the fans would be able to understand the video. When a kiss scene with an actress appeared on the screen, fans would be heard screaming âNO~â from even the very back of the crowd.
The atmosphere of the concert was at its climax during the last song of the night, âIncredibleâ, which also happens to be the title song of the singerâs second album.
Kim Junsu ran up to the front of the âIâ-shape stage and had both hands in the air as he got his fans to join along. All his fans stood up and shook their fanlights as they danced to the music. Some even left their seats and ran up to the fence in front of the stage to get a closer look.
Mrs. Apapat (48), who attended the concert with her daughter Tataraphun (20), said, âBoth of us really like Junsu,â and âMy daughter says she likes him because he sings so well, and I like him because he always does his best and works hard, which makes him a great role model for my daughter. Like how we came to this concert together, Junsu has bettered our relationship and increased the amount of conversations we share.â
Kim Junsu will move on to Shanghai, China on the 28th, and then move on to perform in Seoul and Busan.
âI opened my Asia tour last year in Bangkok as well, and I think Iâve finished on a high with a lot of energy. I received so much energy and strength from the audience today. I will work hard to continue that âunlimited energyâ that I received today in the other countries I visit.â

[T/N: My apologies in advance for butchering the names of the mother and daughter who were interviewed! Korean is not the friendliest language when it comes to deciphering syllables of names in other languages. If anyone can tell me the correct spelling, please let me know and I’ll fix it as soon as I can! T___T]

It has been found that JYJâs Kim Junsu and Kim Jaejoong will be enlisting in the military this year.
Multiple sources in the K-pop industry have stated that the two singers are currently deciding on a date ahead of their military enlistment. In Kim Jaejoongâs case, he has already been given multiple draft notices, but has pushed back his enlistment due to reasons such as long periods of time spent overseas. However, it has become difficult for him to push back his enlistment any further.
A representative of the industry stated, âHe is currently deciding on an enlistment date with his agency due to issues surrounding frequent overseas concerts and scheduled activities,â and âFrom what I know, he either plans to go near the end of this year, or next January to February at the latest.â
Kim Junsu, who received a second grade active duty designation, is also in discussions about his enlistment date.
A representative stated, âTaking into consideration the current controversy surrounding celebrity soldiers, he would like to enlist as a regular solider.â He continued to add, âThe enlistment of male celebrities has always been a sensitive topic, and both singers are of the opinion to go the regular track and avoid the criticism that follows a shaky celebrity enlistment. They canât help but be cautious as their status as top stars will make their enlistment a hot topic.â
Born in 1986 and 1987 respectively, Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu still have a bit of leeway age-wise in pushing back their enlistment, but both have already pushed it back numerous times. All three members of the group became the center of spotlight when they visited the Office of Military Manpower Administration for their physical checkups on the 14th of February, 2011. Kim Jaejoongâs draft notice set his enlistment for September, 2011 but was reported to have been pushed back to the following year. Now, the singer canât help but be aware of public sentiment surrounding celebrity enlistments.
A representative of C-JeS stated, âAll three members of JYJ plan to enlist in the military, like every other male in Korea.â However, he did not say much on when exactly the members would be enlisting.
Meanwhile, JYJâs other member Park Yoochun has received a fourth grade reservist duty designation due to his asthma. There is no news yet on when Park Yoochun plans to enlist in the military.

[T/N:Â A few clarifications on military service for those who are worried.
– What is the grade system?
The grade system is one that designates men enlisting in the military to certain ‘grades’, depending on their physical state. Grade 1 is the highest ranking you can receive and a person is docked to lower grades based on physical attributes such as poor eyesight, high blood pressure, being underweight or any physical illnesses. Grade 1~3 are assigned to active duty, Grade 4 is assigned to reservist duty and so on (I omitted the rest since they don’t apply to JYJ)
-What does active duty mean in Korea?
Active duty in Korea doesn’t mean anything overseas (for the most part). This usually means the initial training/boot camp period + staying at a base in Korea for the rest of the enlistment. Soldiers get holidays once in a while to leave the base and visit family and friends, which is why it’s not unusual to see see people in uniform in the subway or buses.
-How long is the enlistment period?
1. Army/Marine – 1 year 9 months
2. Navy – 1 year 11 months
3. Air Force – 2 years
Each person can choose which he sector in the military he would like to go to.
-Is pushing back your military enlistment normal?
Yes! Regular people, not just celebrities, push back their enlistment for various reasons. The most used case is that Koreans who are studying overseas can push back their enlistment date in order to further their studies. In the case of celebrities, most push their enlistment date back till their late 20s or early 30s so it isn’t unusual for JYJ to have done so as well.Â
Most regular people just decide to go early (first or second year of university) so that it doesn’t hinder them in their upperclassmen years when they’re trying to find jobs and graduate. (My guy friends are all disappearing one by one ;___;)
Hope this helps a little!]

Kim Junsu (XIA) is at the center of the spotlight for revealing the process behind the creation of his song âIsnât This Song Funnyâ.
Kim Junsu held a showcase at the UNIQLO AX Hall on the 15th to commemorate the release of his second solo album âIncredibleâ.
During the press conference that was held after the showcase, Kim Junsu talked about his song âIsnât This Song Funnyâ and had everyone laughing when he said, âThe song was done and all it needed was a title. But I found that nothing really worked as well as âIsnât This Song Funnyâ. The staff members were at a loss for words when I told them about how I had chosen the title of the song.â
He continued to say, âWhen I was writing the lyrics, I tried to express what I had always wanted to say in a funny way. I left out any heavy material like love stories and looked back on things I had written on my Twitter account for my inspiration,â and âItâs a song that I wrote as a present to my fans.â
He smiled and said, âItâs supposed to be a bonus track so I was surprised to see how popular it is.â
Netizens who heard this left comments such as, âIsnât This Song Funny, even the behind-the-scenes story is funnyâ, âIsnât This Song Funny, the bonus tracks are always the jewel in any album,â and âKim Junsu must not like writing about serious things.â
Meanwhile, âIsnât This Song Funnyâ has been drawing much attention for expressing the various happenings that Kim Junsu faced as a solo singer. A more fun and exciting aspect has been added with Boomâs narration.

XIA (Junsu) has returned with an album full of challenges.
IA (Kim Junsu) held a showcase at the UNIQLO AX Hall on the 15th to commemorate the release of his second solo album âIncredibleâ.
Itâs been a year since he last made an appearance as solo singer âXIAâ, and not a member of JYJ. Although he has been busy as a musical actor, he put all his effort into preparing his latest album, and did not disappoint fans as he has come back as a more mature singer.
During the press conference that was held after the showcase, Kim Junsu said, âI tried to put as many different genres as possible in this album. I only started choosing songs after I decided which genres I wanted in my album, and I paid much more attention in my song selection process this year.â
His vocal skills have changed drastically as well. Regarding this, Kim Junsu said, âI canât say that my time as a musical actor hasnât influenced the way I sing at all, but I tried very hard to find the perfect balance. I tried to find what worked best for each song, and applied that to my music, â and âI left it up to the feel of the song.â
Kim Junsu emphasized, âThis album was a great challenge for me. I wanted to discover a new side of me through this album.â
He expressed his hesitation of filling the majority of the album with his own compositions. He said, âWhen artistes compose their own music, the good thing is that they are able to put all of their strengths into one song. But you might also get yourself stuck in one mould,â and âAlthough I try to branch out when I write music, the quality of my album might drop if I become too greedy about writing and singing my own songs. I focused most on choosing the best songs.â
The showcase that was held on the same day was aired live on MelonTV. Kim Junsu performed a total of four songs, âTarantallegraâ, â11 oâclockâ, âIâm Sorryâ and âIncredibleâ, to perfect his successful comeback.
Starting on the 20th in Bangkok, Thailand, Kim Junsu will set off on his world tour that will take him to Shanghai, China on the 20th, Seoul on the 3rd and 4th of August, and Busan on the 10th and 11th of August.
