[News] Kim Joon Soo: ‘The Role That Has No Correct Answer Attracts me’

[News] Kim Joon Soo: ‘The Role That Has No Correct Answer Attracts Me’

Kim Joon Soo will play the role of Tod in the Musical “Elizabeth.”

The musical “Elizabeth” is based on a true life story of Austria’s Empress Elizabeth, and the other protagonist besides Elizabeth is Tod, which is the personified character of death. “Tod,” who met Elizabeth when she was young, fell in love with her and came to stay right beside her during her lifetime while tempting her. Elizabeth, who came to be destined to live in the cage of the palace even though she had been pursuing her free life and love, became weakened by Tod’s temptations.

Rookie musical actor and star idol group member Kim Joon Soo of JYJ will challenge himself by playing the difficult role of Tod. Kim Joon Soo reportedly worried very much when was first asked to play the role, regarding whether he could play the role very well or not. Kim said, “Doing something that I want to do and something that I can do is another story. I thought that ‘Death’ has to be grave and dignified, and the actor who plays this role has to have enough acting experience. I agonized greatly whether I could successfully play the role. But I realized that ‘death’ does not exist and there will be no correct answer.” He explained that he decided to play the character because he would present something that does not exist. Kim continued, “The head of our agency asked me, ‘Why do you think that the character should be dignified even though it does not exist?’ After I listened to his question, I realized that it could be young or innocent, and I decided to present ‘Death’ my own way, according to how I think.”

His own thoughts on death have also changed from vague ideas of “What is after death?” and “Do I really die someday?” to a more concrete definition, in which is, “Death is something that makes people feel that they are only human who inevitably die, which makes people feel miserable.” Before he creates the image of “death,” he thought about how Elizabeth thinks and feels before “death.” Five actors who will play death and Elizabeth and the director discussed together. Kim Joon Soo said, “Death asked Elizabeth what ‘death’ meant to her, and she answered that she, who had been dreaming of free life, felt pessimistic when she became the empress. I thought that ‘death’ might have brought her a kind of freedom, comfort, and peace.”

The character of “Death” will be played by Kim Joon Soo in his twenties, Song Chang Ui in his thirties, and Ryu Jeong Han in his forties. The three actors have different charms and different experiences, and their ways of presenting the same character might be different. Kim Joon Soo hinted that the character death that will be played by three different actors will be varied in their costumes and hairstyles, and he will present dancing more than the other two actors. He did not lose his courage in a situation where he had to appear with other veteran actors, but he said confidently, “Watching different acting by different actors who play the same character is a very exciting element and the power of the musical.” He also said confidently that he could use the best of his weak and husky voice to play his character. He seemed to be free from the restraint of an actor who came from an idol group. Kim said, “I knew that some people criticized me that I had been cast as the protagonist only because I came from a star idol group, and I had been very cautious. I did not know about musicals at all when I appeared in the musical ‘Mozart’ as the protagonist, but musicals gave me strength and hope when I had gone through a very difficult situation, so I do not want to give up appearing in musicals. Now I only think that I have to repay the audience and the producer who have shown trust to me. It is true that I come from a idol group, and I am trying my best to change people’s prejudice about me. I want to be regarded as a musical actor who really loves musicals.”

[News] 120113 JYJ’s Junsu Denies His Involvement in Hotel-building Plans for Jeju Island

[News] 120113 JYJ’s Junsu Denies His Involvement in Hotel-Building Plans for Jeju Island

A representative of JYJ has asserted that member Junsu is not involved in hotel construction plans for Jeju Island.

Various reports have been going around stating that Junsu is on his way to becoming an entrepreneur by constructing a hotel in Jeju Island.

The representative explained that those reports are false.

While the plans are coming from Junsu’s father, Junsu himself is not directly involved. “Junsu has no relations to his father’s plans on opening a hotel business in Jeju Island,” they said. “This entrepreneurial plan is under Junsu’s father, not Junsu himself.”

They continued, “Junsu barely has enough time to keep up with his main career as an entertainer.”

Aside from his work with JYJ, Junsu is preparing for his upcoming musical “Elizabeth“, which is scheduled to begin on February 8th. Since Junsu is required to exude a masculine image on stage, he has been spending his days in the gym and nights working on music.

In related news, JYJ will be holding their first South American concerts in Peru and Chile on March 9th and 11th.

111215 Happy 25th Birthday To Kim Junsu from Momma Cha

Hi Junsu.

You may never see this post, but it is my desire to express to you how much I appreciate you on your birthday. What is it about you that endears you to my heart like a family member? There are many things–the way that you laugh for one. Your laughter is so contagious, and I love to watch it start in your eyes and travel through your entire body. You make me laugh with you, and there are times when I truly need a good laugh.

I love to hear you sing. Yes, you’ve heard this before, but believe me June, your singing is  unique. Your vocal tones range from piano to forte; from legato to tinny. Yes, you can be tinny, but it is such a wonderful sound that it can capture my attention in the midst of all the other voices on the palette. I really cannot describe your vocals fully with the musical vocabulary that I possess. I can only close my eyes and let them play.

I enjoy the athletic side of you. You are a wonderful dancer. I am a person who loves to move and dance; take a hike –or at least a good, long walk. I was so thrilled to realize that you and the members had climbed the mountain. I want you to take care of yourself, but part of that is staying physically fit. I didn’t have an interest in soccer until I became aware of your team. Now it is something to watch and pursue.

I simply love your “humanitarianism”   🙂  You were describing your red-faced demeanor while gaming, but I define your ‘humanitarianism’ as helping others less fortunate than yourself–whether it is building houses for needy families to planting trees et al. One of my favorite pictures of you is the “Happy Energy” picture. The smile in your eyes seems to reach out from your soul. I know that some of the charities that you participate in are joint ventures, but I see the tender part of your spirit that desires to give. Adoption is a part of you.

I love the fact that you still cling to church and family. Family is so important in life, and when you possess a wonderful family such your own I ask you to treasure it with all of your heart. Church is also important because it is a place of sanctuary from all of the evil, mean things that life can throw at you. It is somewhere to go where you know that you will be loved and nurtured.

Last, but not least, I admire you as an actor. You have enormous potential in this field, especially stage acting. You have always been able to command a stage, and you have the ability to separate yourself from the role once you exit the stage. Choose your roles wisely and you will secure a future for yourself and your posterity.

Happy Birthday Junsu. I pray that you will have so many more wonderful celebrations. You are a private individual, and I thank you for those parts of you that you choose to reveal to us. That is our gift from You on this Christmas Season. Merry Christmas and Have a Wonderful New Year.

Translation 111210 Interview With TVXQ: “In Private, We Are Much Like Normal People

[TRANS] 111210 Interview With TVXQ : “In Private, We Are Very Much Like Normal People”

After going through contractual issues and switching from a 5-man group to a 2 man group, the TVXQ appeared in Shanghai for their fan meeting  for the first time with their new grouping. On the afternoon of 9 December, Yunho and Changmin did an interview with ent.163.com. When talking about the recording of their Japanese album, Changmin laughed and said that there was a portion of the recording that required whistling, which he insisted on Yunho doing despite Yunho not being able to do it very well. When talking about their private lives which fans are very concerned about, Yunho and Changmin expressed, “In private, when we don’t have too many activities, we listen to music, watch movies and meet up with friends, very much like a normal person. “

Q: What is the difference between performing in Europe/America and Asia?

TVXQ: It’s the same in both Asia as well as Europe/America, no matter where we are, we can feel the passion and love from the fans, which is surprising to us.

Q: When recording the Japanese album “TONE,” were there any interesting episodes?

TVXQ: In our new album, there is a song called “Easy Mind,” and this song includes a portion where Yunho is whistling. Actually, he isn’t very good at whistling, but we insisted on him doing the whistling. This is one of the more meaningful moments that we remember.

Q: The style of this new album is more mature, and has more variety?

TVXQ: As this is a new album that we released after a long time, so there were many people that were very concerned about the album. We are thankful for everybody’s care and concern, and thank them for their support.

Q: Changmin, will you consider composing songs (T/N : vs writing lyrics) in the future?

TVXQ (Changmin) : So far, I haven’t really thought about writing songs, and maybe I just don’t have the talent for composing, so I feel more inclined towards developing in the area of lyric-writing.

Q: Yunho, do you have plans to compose or write lyrics?

TVXQ (Yunho) : Previously, during TVXQ concerts pr SMTown concerts, I’ve performed songs that I composed and wrote myself, so if there is chance and a good song, I hope that I will be able to include it in an album.

Q: What do the Chinese fans mean to you?

TVXQ: Although there isn’t much of a difference between fans in various countries, but they feel something special towards the Chinese fans, and the Chinese fans are always the first to ask after us whenever something happens, so we hope that in the future, fans can continue to show us their love and support.

Q: How are you like in private?

TVXQ: When we don’t have much to do, we listen to music, watch movies, and meet up with friends, very much like a normal person.

[NEWS] 111121 North Korean Celebrities Are Struggling Because Of The Hallyu Wave

[NEWS] 111121 North Korean Celebrities Are Struggling Because Of The Hallyu Wave

Radio Free Asia (RFA), a non-profit organization that operates a radio station and internet news source, recently published a story about North Korean celebrities being forgotten due to the Hallyu Wave. Apparently, South Korean movies and dramas are spreading like wildfire inside the isolated country and are devouring low-quality North Korean films.

According to an insider in North Korea, “I don’t know anything about new North Korean songs or movies that have been released. There are only 3-4 [North Korean] films that are produced each year, but since there are so many South Korean movies laying around, no one pays attention to our [North Korean] films.”

Not only are North Korean films low in quality due to insufficient budgets, they lack creativity and are considered boring because they are all material that only praise Kim Il Sung‘s family. Thus, it was reported that citizens and young people completely ignore films and entertainment produced by their country.

North Korean celebrities are suffering significantly due to the Hallyu Wave, mainly because South Korean celebrities are gaining much popularity, while they are becoming forgotten. Multiple insiders state, “People related to the North Korean entertainment business ignore the demands of the people and solely focus on Kim Jong Il‘s propaganda. People can expect to see the end of North Korea’s entertainment industry“.

North Korean youths who defected from the country were able to name several South Korean films including ‘Stairway to Heaven‘ and ‘Scent of a Man‘, while they were unable to recall any names of actors/actresses from a particular North Korean film.

It’s not just North Korean movies and dramas going down the drain — the music industry is declining as well. An insider explained, “All songs, including new ones, involve chants and praises for Kim Jong Il or the Worker’s Party. No one wants to listen to them.”

South Korean netizens were quite amused by the news and commented, “Aren’t all North Korean songs practically hymns that praise that dictator pig?“, “There are celebrities in North Korea? That kind of occupation exists? Wow“, and “I can feel the end of North Korea nearing..“.
