Fans are crying their hearts out already!

It is interesting how close these superstars are in their ages and even birth dates.

In South Korea it is an obligation of all males between the ages of 18 to 35 to serve their military service. The length of service varies depending on the military branch: 21 months for Army and Marines, 23 months for Navy, 24 months for Air Force. The non-active duty service, e.g. civil service or public service worker, is from 24 months to 36 months. Athletes who win medals at the Olympic Games or gold medals at the Asian Games are granted exemptions but still have to serve four weeks in basic training.

Aha, I see a loophole for Kim Soo Hyun: Someone who is at least 400 years old doesn’t have to serve in the military, right?

[Trans] 140127 [Star Talk] ‘December’ Kim Junsu, “I Still Feel Like A Fool In Front Of Women”

junsudecinterview

JYJ member and musical actor Kim Junsu has met with Kim Kwang Seok’s music. ‘December: The Song That Hasn’t Ended’ is a jukebox musical that opened in December and uses 24 of Kim Kwang Seok’s music to create a love story.

When it was found that Kim Junsu would be appearing in ‘December’, many were confused by his choice.

Since making his debut as a musical actor, Kim Junsu has swept up Best Rookie Awards and Popularity Awards left and right, moving on to win the Best Actor Award at the 18th Korea Musical Awards.  He has made his mark as a musical actor with real talent and immense ticket power.

Despite a flood of famous overseas licensed musicals up for grabs, Kim Junsu decided to choose the dangerous road of a ‘newly created musical’. This was what our first question was about.

“There were so many things about this musical that drew me in. I think I felt a sense of responsibility to take on a newly created musical after winning such a great award. Then there was the fact that the musical is directed by Jang Jin and uses Kim Kwang Seok’s music. It was an honor for me to be able to sing ‘December’. This musical requires a lot of acting and memorizing lines, so I hoped it would help widen up by spectrum. I’ve stayed humble and am open to learning as much as I can.”

junsudecinterview1

Kim Junsu plays the role of Ji Wook, a man hurt by the memories of his first love, and plays a wide age range from his twenties to his forties. Seeing Kim Junsu play the role of Ji Wook in his twenties brings a smile to our faces. The charismatic ‘JYJ Kim Junsu’ is nowhere to be seen, leaving the cute and adorable ‘younger brother Kim Junsu’.

“The overall feel, way of speaking, movements and tone all come from my days as a student. When I was in middle school and high school, I would do nothing but sing and dance because I was so passionate about my dream. So I used to feel like a fool in front of women, just like Ji Wook. I still feel like that sometimes. I feel embarrassed and shy for some odd reason. (laughter)”

Kim Junsu is a presence in the Korean musical industry that can’t be ignored. Making his debut in 2010 with the musical ‘Mozart!’, Kim Junsu has showcased an amazing ticket power, selling out every performance he’s been in. ‘December’ is no exception. The Seoul performances of ‘December’ will come to an end on the 29th, and the 63,000 seats for Kim Junsu’s performances were sold out.Kim Junsu’s Busan performances (February 7th~16th) and Daegu performances (February 21st~March 2nd) were sold out as well. What is the secret to his success?

“I think people appreciate me for how hard I work. Musical tickets are expensive, so I feel a sense of responsibility to make each performance worth the ticket price. It’s been five years since I’ve appeared on broadcasted programs due to various reasons, and I want to thank everyone for their unlimited love. I truly think of myself as a lucky person.”

junsudecinterview2

When asked what production he’d like to appear in next, Kim Junsu said ‘Man of La Mancha’, ‘Jekyll and Hyde’, ‘Hedwig’ and ‘Sweeney Todd’. Finally, we asked what the end game of this lover of Korean musicals is.

“I plan to stop releasing albums as a singer when I believe that no one is waiting for me anymore. But I want to keep performing in musicals. Please keep watching over me as I evolve as a musical actor.”

Happy Birthday U-know Yunho: The Promise of Another Year Continues…

Happy Birthday Yunho:  Another Year’s Promise Is Here

yunhoghanahope7 Another year has passed in the life of U-Know Yunho–leader-sshi extraordinaire, friend, dancer, singer, and actor. Who is this ball of energy who seems to have the ability to do such a variety of things, including reaching into his heart and his resources to meet the needs of others? Yunho, you personify fatherhood and young wisdom, yet you also exude a certain vulnerability and naive playfulness that suggests that you have found a way to relieve the pressures of your everyday existence. You have always been one to shoulder everyone’s burden, but what about your burdens?

Early on, as a member of DBSK, you were assigned the leadership role. I can imagine trying to supervise those four extremely energetic, independent doers and thinkers, namely, Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu, and Changmin, I believe that Jaejoong helped you a lot, as they all probably did–but it still remained your role to see to tasks being performed, and to coordinate between upper management and the members. This was not a comfortable place to be. Middle-management has its own set of problems, and you could get caught in between the two. Your loyalties have to lie with both, and the “buck’ definitely stops at your house often. It takes great courage and strength to live in this way, but you have consistently managed to do this.

It doesn’t matter how much we speculate–the only ones who truly know why DBSK split are the actual parties involved. The question is do we truly need to know? I believe that truth and revelation are healers. Each member was and still is affected, and what utter devastation was caused among the fandom. Yet, In some ways it has strengthened the fandom and revealed true loyalties. I also believe that this strengthened each member. Adversely, it has created a climate for fan wars that eventually will be revealed as evoking unnecessary casualties.  Over-all, everyone receives the love if they choose to embrace it. .

Yunho, you are a human being. You hurt like we all hurt. Yet, you tend to hide that hurt until you are alone. This makes it hard to know what your needs are. As a caring community of people, and disregarding diverse loyalties arising out of the split–you occupy a singular position. You also occupy a unique place in our hearts. There is no one like you. As this year progresses, and you achieve more things born out of your own inner drive and perfectionist personality–I believe that you will surpass your own expectations. You have greatness in you; we have seen it all along–and I am praying that you will someday emerge as a guiding influence on the world around you. Seek profound truths, and let yourself be guided by what is truth.

I want to congratulate you on the 10th anniversary, on ‘Somefhing’ and TENSE, and on all of the recent awards and achievements, whether in conjuncture with Changmin or singly. You will continue to grow, and more responsibility will fall upon your shoulders. You are fast approaching your 30’s, the start of the most potentially productive years of your life. Choose your projects wisely, esteem those who are worthy of your esteem, always keep the faith, and know that you are loved…
