“We are nervous, but extremely excited. Everything feels brand new, as if we just debuted” – Yunho

TVXQ! — aka 27-year-old Yunho and 25-year-old Changmin, undoubtedly two of the biggest names in K-pop history — proved their supremacy as a pair of “K-pop Kings,” by amassing a total of 700,000 fans to their five-stop, Japan Dome tour, “TVXQ! Live Tour 2013 Time.” Continuing the success, the duo embarked on their first world tour titled, “TVXQ! LIVE WORLD TOUR ‘CATCH ME,’” on Nov. 17, 2012, in Seoul, Korea. They dazzled thousands in Hong Kong (Jan. 19), China (March 30) and Malaysia (May 18), and they finally brought the much-anticipated leg of the tour to America for a Los Angeles date on July 5.

The excitement caused by TVXQ’s first L.A. concert was felt at Nokia Theatre on Friday night. TVXQ’s fans, known as Cassiopeia, arrived hours before the show was to begin. Most fans, dressed in red t-shirts (a signature color for TVXQ!) showed support by holding flash mob events as well as handmade signs.

PHOTOS: BACKSTAGE & ONSTAGE WITH TVXQ!

Backstage, TVXQ appeared energized and high-spirited, despite jet lag and exhaustion from hours of rehearsal. The duo spent the last hour before the show relaxing their vocals (Changmin singing Kim Gun Mo’s “Moon Of Seoul”), taking pictures with lucky fans, joking around with staff members and talking to Billboard for an exclusive video interview.

“We are happy that we get to finally meet with our fans in the States,” says leader Yunho. “The show here [compared to ones in other countries] is more intimate. We are nervous, but extremely excited. Everything feels brand new, as if we just debuted. We want to share our good vibes with our fans that have waited so long.”

At 8:30 p.m. the extravaganza began slightly delayed (due to concertgoers’ unwillingness to leave merchandise booths). Ear-splitting screams erupted, red glow sticks illuminated, and some fans even cried as the packed venue watched the duo appear via hanging on wires.

TVXQ!’s electrifying show kicked off with hardcore, back-to-back performances of “Rising Sun,” “Getaway” and “Why (Keep Your Head Down).”

Taking a moment, Changmin expressed his gratitude to the thousands of fans by saying, in English, “We are so thankful to each and every one of you that came to see us tonight.” With an interpreter, he continued in Korean, “I know our U.S. fans have waited ten, long years for this concert to happen and we will promise to make up for it.”

Throughout the two-hour and a half event, the K-pop kings delivered a pitch-perfect live show with masterfully choreographed dance moves, assisted by six male backup dancers, plus special solo performances. For the solo stages, Changmin mesmerized with a cover of Maxwell’s “Whenever, Wherever, Whatever,” in a casual, striped shirt in front of a backdrop of a cityscape visual. Then, Yunho spiced it up by crooning and hip-swerving his way through his solo track, “Honey Funny Bunny,” in a sequined jacket.

‘You Guys Are So Amazing!’

The duo went through their extensive catalog of Korean and Japanese hits, including “Wrong Number” (showcasing perfectly in-sync dance moves down to their feet) “Purple Line,” “Humanoids” (their most-recent K-pop single) “Destiny,” “Dream,” “Catch Me” (wearing LED light jeweled jackets, highlighting the technical “Hulk dance”) “Before You Go” and “Mirotic.” In between performances, various TVXQ! videos were shown on the screen to preview each song.

Before bringing the show to a close, the crowd united as one for a touching moment. At one point, fans held up a placard that read, “We will always be here.” Yunho responded to the crowd in English, “You guys are so amazing! I am touched.”

The highlight of the night came when TVXQ! daringly stormed into the crowd — the first they’ve ever done so in their 10-year career, they told Billboard afterwards. The boys went off in separate directions, running through the aisles, leaving fans (and presumably security guards and ushers) in awe.

After successfully wrapping the concert Yunho reflects, “I was really taken aback to see such diversity in ages. We even saw a lady [who seemed to be in her 60s] singing along to our lyrics. This was a special night for all of us. The amount of response we got was tremendous. We won’t forget this night and we hope that our U.S. fans. will remember this night as well.”

Looking forward, TVXQ! will become the first foreign artist to perform at Japan’s Nissan Stadium on August 17 and 18. The two-day event is projected to bring in a total of 150,000 fans.

[Trans] 130712 Max Changmin – Park Hyung Shik, ‘Handsome Bumblers’ Have Viewers Cooing In Delight

Viewers have motherly smiles on their faces whenever they see these members on variety shows?

KBS 2TV’s ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’ and MBC’s ‘Real Men’, the two upcoming variety shows of 2013, have one thing in common. A youngest member who brings out the protective streak in viewers as they bumble their way through sports and the military.

The youngest member in ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’ is Max Changmin and the baby soldier of ‘Real Men’ is Park Hyung Shik. They’ve captured the hearts of viewers with their good looks and surprisingly bumbling behavior. Viewers call them the ‘handsome bumblers’. Let’s fall into the charm of these handsome bumblers~

maxchangminparkhyungshikbumblers1

The bumbling young one, Max Changmin

Max Changmin is currently working with Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Geun and Jo Dal Hwan on ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’. They have battled against ordinary folks in table tennis, bowling and now, badminton. Former sumo wrestler Kang Ho Dong, condiment-like Lee Soo Geun and master of sports Jo Dal Hwan have each formed their own characters, and Max Changmin has solidified his status as the sincere ‘maknae’ (youngest in the group).

Max Changmin has a monopoly over the love of his older team members as the youngest member with a faint heart. When he appears on ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’, he is no longer the charismatic member of TVXQ on stage; he is a part of the KBS team. Sometimes he’s like the boy next door, and sometimes he’s like a cute younger brother.

Unfortunately, Max Changmin hasn’t won a single match in any of the sports events he’s played in. Though Max Changmin’s athletic skills aren’t outstanding, as said by his table tennis and bowling coaches, he’s more diligent and practices more than anyone else.

He is also growing and maturing with the program. Because he has not appeared on many variety shows in the past, there are still so many talents and surprises that he has yet to show.

In a phone conversation with StarNews on the 12th, a representative of the show stated, “Max Changmin tries really hard. He doesn’t fade into the background between such strong personalities as his older team members, and he plays his part as the youngest member of the team,” and “But when he loses a match, he tends to shed tears out of disappointment and sorrow. Everyone knows just how sincere Max Changmin is about this show, so even those tears make us feel so proud of him.”

(part about Park Hyung Shik is omitted)

[TRANS] 130709 [C-JeS] A Letter Of Plea Regarding Loen Entertainment’s Unlawful Tyranny

[Trans] 130709 [C-Jes] A letter of Plea Regarding Loen Entertainment’s Unlawful Tyranny

Hello.

This is C-JeS Entertainment.

C-JeS Entertainment (henceforth known as C-JeS) has received a sudden and unilateral notification from Loen Entertainment (henceforth known as Loen), the online and offline distributor of XIA (Junsu)’s second solo album that is scheduled to be released on the 15th of July. We would like to notify the fans and the public of the current unlawful situation.

C-JeS and Loen came to a verbal decision on the online and offline distribution contract for XIA (Junsu)’s second album, and came to an agreement to work together.

Afterwards, the representatives in charge met over five times and exchanged over 50 e-mails to work on the distribution of XIA (Junsu)’s second album. Ahead of the album’s release on the 15th, C-JeS rand Loen came to a final decision last week on the following promotional marketing strategies. (1. Showcase for Melon users, and the broadcast of the even live on MelonTV 2. Participation in a Melon Special Video 3. Promotional marketing strategies for the distribution of music to 5 online music sites)

However, we were sent a unilateral notification by Loen last night that overturned all of the previous agreements that had been made. Loen stated, “Though we will be distributing XIA (Junsu)’s music both online and offline. We have decided to nullify all other promotional marketing strategies.” Loen continued to state, “Please be understanding of this as it is a decision made within the company. Although the Melon users’ showcase will be aired live on LoenTV, it will be impossible to disclose the event on Melon.”

However, the idea of the showcase was first brought up by Loen. Through offline meetings and exchanged e-mails in June, Loen stated, “If C-JeS Entertainment holds a showcase with Loen, this will bring in more publicity for the album as it will be advertised on Melon and Melon’s mobile application,” and presented the offer of holding a showcase event. We accepted their explanation and came to the final decision to hold the showcase event with Loen, instead of a major portal site. Before sending an official announcement regarding the showcase to the press on the 3rd of July, we shared the content of the announcement with Loen and at the time, Loen stated, “We would like for information about LoenTV and MelonTV to be included.” We accepted this and implemented their suggestion before releasing the information. However, notifying us that it is impossible to disclose of the event on Melon, and that the event will be aired on Loen TV due to decisions made by those within the company, six days before the actual event itself, is in our opinion, tyranny by a super power.

Also, Loen’s statement that they will nullify all promotional marketing strategies while distributing the album online and offline, which comes a mere six days before the release date, is like saying that they will gain the profits from XIA (Junsu)’s fans but will not take on the responsibilities of the distributor of XIA (Junsu)’s second solo album.

For the past two months, Loen has had hands-on staff working on the distribution of XIA (Junsu)’s second album, and in the case of ’11 o’clock’ from XIA (Junsu)’s second album, they created a special clip and pre-released the track, also providing distribution services on iTunes. Although these actions were not laid out in a contract, they were agreed upon in an ‘actions first, contract later’ form, which can be proved through the countless e-mails, text messages and phone conversations between the two parties.

However, after the pre-release on the 2nd, the promotional banner for the showcase that was agreed upon through various e-mails and meetings has disappeared from the main page of both the PC and mobile version of Melon from the 4th of July. Although the teaser of XIA (Junsu)’s music video was released yesterday (8th), no banners or any other forms of promotion have been seen for it. Banners for other artistes working with Loen who released songs in a similar time period as XIA (Junsu) can be seen on Melon’s website and mobile application, but only XIA (Junsu)’s contents have disappeared from all main Melon pages since the 4th.

After receiving the notification from Loen last night, C-JeS’ album production team sent Loen an official document expressing their strong opposition to Loen’s actions, outlining that Loen’s plans of distributing the album without promoting or marketing is like killing the contents of the album, and that sending a notification 6 days before the release date of the album is an act of tyranny that stops us from creating a contract with better conditions. However, Loen’s answer has not changed since their initial notification.

What we can say for sure is that we have been suffering from the unseen and relentless external pressure placed upon JYJ till now, and we will not work with a super power who acts in a tyrannical nature. We will be filing a civil complaint to the Fair Trade Commission and the Ombudsman of Korea in order to bring justice to the current situation of Loen attempting to unilaterally terminate the agreements between two companies by abusing their advantaged position as a distribution company.

Also, if Loen does not reaffirm their promise to air the showcase live on MelonTV by today, we will terminate our decision with Loen to open the showcase to Melon users, and instead open seats up to a first-come-first-serve basis and air the event live through C-JeS’ official YouTube channel. We would like to apologize to the fans for such unfortunate news, and we promise to do our best to make the work behind the showcase and music distribution as smooth as possible.

TVXQ have cancelled their concert in Peru.

TVXQ were initially scheduled to hold their ‘TVXQ LIVE WORLD TOUR – Catch Me’ concert in Lima, Peru on the 14th of July. However, the concert was cancelled due to technical problems.

The Peruvian production agency that was in charge of the concert stated, “TVXQ’s concert has been cancelled. The decision to cancel the concert came from an agreement with SM Entertainment’s representatives due to technical issues pertaining to the concert such as problems with the band and equipment.” They also added, “Unfortunately, we will not be able to complete the concert given the current situation.”

Meanwhile, TVXQ successfully held the US leg of their world tour at the Nokia Theater in LA recently, and are set to be the first non-Japanese singers to hold a concert at the Nissan Stadium, which can hold up to 75,000 people.

A moment from the free fanmeet of the JYJ fan expo

JYJ’s fan expo came to a close on the 30th of June.

JYJ’s fan expo, titled the ‘JYJ Membership Week’, was held for a total of four days from the 27th of June at SETEC in Seoul. A total of 17,000 fans from Korean and Japan visited the event. CEO Baek Chang Joo of C-JeS Entertainment, JYJ’s agency, stated, “We’ve created a space for artistes and fans to meet. Because we’ve wanted this event to be a long-running event from the moment it was first created, we tried to make it a place for JYJ and their fans to connect with each other.”

JYJ’s fan expo consisted of a ‘Media Facade Square’, that showcased a large fountain that played JYJ’s music and a cafeteria that provided free drinks, a ‘JYJ Art Gallery’ that showcased various artwork created by JYJ and included a space for fans to create their own, and a ‘Concert Hall’ that showed JYJ’s April Tokyo Dome concert to their fans for free. Photo zones were created for fans to take photos with JYJ, and 10 photo sticker booths were set up for fans to create special memories at the event.

jyjparadigmfanexpo1

A moment from the free fanmeet of the JYJ fan expo

The reason why JYJ’s fan expo, which has entered its second year, has garnered so much attention is because it has brought forth a new paradigm that differs from the fanmeets, concerts and handshake events of other entertainment agencies. They haven’t stopped at just singing and acting, but they have also utilized artwork and technology to create various attractions for fans. Last year, they opened up the possibilities of commercializing IT technology by having the members of JYJ appearing through hologram videos. JYJ’s Membership Week has created a new term ‘fan expo’ and created attractions that showcase everything under the sun.

JYJ’s fan expo, which has shifted the paradigm in the industry, has also caused secondary economic effects. 4,000 Japanese fans arrived at Incheon and Gimpo Airports from the 27th of June to attend the expo. A representative of Lotte Hotel said, “Because of the depreciation of the Yen and the worsening relations of the two Koreas, the number of Japanese tourists in Korea has markedly decreased. The fact that 4,000 Japanese fans came to Korea to see JYJ is a surprising and welcomed event for the tourism industry.” Experts of the industry estimate that JYJ have brought an economic effect of 10 billion Won to Korea, if one considers the fact that each Japanese fan spent approximately 2 million Won each during their trip to Korea for the fan expo.”

C-JeS Entertainment stated, “We have tried to reduce the commercialization of the fan expo as much as possible by providing services such as the fanmeet and concert hall free of charge, as well as not selling any MD goods,” and “We tried to create a space for JYJ to connect with their fans more closely through the JYJ Membership Week.”

Kim Junsu has proved his ticket power yet again.

During the second round of ticket reservations that took place today for the musical ‘Elisabeth’, Kim Junsu sold out all of his shows in five minutes.

C-JeS Entertainment revealed on the 3rd that, “During the ticket reservations that took place today, Kim Junsu’s shows were sold out in five minutes. Most of the tickets were gone in the pre-sales that began at 2pm, and when regular sales for tickets began at 3pm, the server crashed and proved just how powerful Kim Junsu is as a musical actor.”

Kim Junsu was highly praised last year for creating the closest representation of Death that the original writer had intended. Receiving positive reviews from critics and audience alike, he won the Best Musical Actor Award at the 18th Korea Musical Awards. On the 1st, he released a teaser photo that showed him with dark hair and a mystical gaze.

Kim Junsu stated, “I decided to appear in ‘Elisabeth’ this year because I wanted to show the audience a newly interpreted and evolved Death.”

The musical ‘Elisabeth’ is a unique take on the beautiful Hapsburg empress Elisabeth. The fantasy character of Death has been added to the dramatic interpretation of the royal’s life, with a unique storyline of Death falling in love with the empress. [TRANS] 130703 ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master’ Viewers Are Moved By Max Changmin’s Tears, He’s Amazing Though He Lost

Max Changmin shed some emotional tears last night.

The episode of KBS 2TV’s ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’ that aired on the 2nd of July showed the celebrity team’s last bowling match, which was against the Gwangju Ssangchoon-dong team.

On this day, Max Changmin was the last to play, with the fate of the game resting in his hands. Max Changmin had escaped his title as ‘The Fool of Bowling’ and was slowly but surely making his spot as an ace in the team. That effort shone through in his latest match. Max Changmin showcased an amazing concentration as he hit a spare for each round.

However, he could not escape his nerves. Max Changmin had to put his ball down and take a deep breath to control his pace. Unfortunately, Max Changmin lost the match to his opponent Park Dong Hyuk’s strike. His eyes were brimming with tears because he felt sorry and disappointed.

Although Max Changmin was unable to gift his team with a victory, everyone was surprised by his concentration and speed of improvement. He congratulated his opponent’s victory with tears running down his face.

Max Changmin said, “I tried to get myself ready from the middle of Lee Soo Geun’s match, but because it’s a match, my palms got sweaty and the ball slid off my thumb. Although I’ll have a lot of regrets about this bowling match, I did my best and didn’t let my concentration fall.”

Jaejoong ended his 5-month long Asia Tour together with over 45,000 Japanese fans.

From 24 to 26 June, Jaejoong held his “Kim Jaejoong Grand Finale Live Concert and Fanmeeting” at the Yokohama Arena, meeting with over 45,000 fans.

For Jaejoong’s concert this time, as soon as the ticket sales begun, the number of ticket applications received exceeded (the number of tickets available) by 4 times, and tickets were completely sold out. In response to requests from fans, standing seats and restricted view seats were added, and sold out completely as well, demonstrating Jaejoong’s high popularity.

During the first part, the fan meeting segment, Jaejoong spent an enjoyable time with the audience that filled the venue over the 3 days. During the second part, the concert segment, aside from singing songs from his first album, Jaejoong also touched the fans by singing popular Japanese songs such as “Precious”, “Crescent Moon” and “Glamorous Sky”.

During the second segment, when Jaejoong transformed into a rocker and appeared together with the live bands, the fans cheered loudly.

Jaejoong opened the mini-concert with “Mine”, the title track from his first solo mini-album, and sang all-live covers of popular Japanese songs including “Moonlight” and “The Last Rain” aside from the songs previously revealed through the setlist.

When Jaejoong began singing Ayaka’s “Crescent Moon”, the fans did a little event for Jaejoong by taking out their respective green lightsticks. And during B’z’s “Ultra Soul”, Jaejoong heated up the atmosphere of the concert as he and his fans took turns singing verses.

In response to the endless calls from fans for an encore, Jaejoong sang Nakashima Mika’s “Glamorous Sky”, presenting an explosive live stage right up to the last song, to which fans also gave their passionate support right up till the end.

Even after Jaejoong left the stage following the encore stage the fans continued calling out “Kim Jaejoong” for some time. Jaejoong then went back out on stage without a mike, shouting his thanks to the fans. Many fans were seen tearing up and not leaving the venue.

During the last performance yesterday (Wednesday), Jaejoong expressed his feelings about the conclusion of the Asia Tour, “I really wanted to meet everyone. Thank you for coming all this way. I would be great if we could meet again. I love you.”

On another note, following the release of his first solo album in January, Jaejoong began his Asia Tour through Korea, Thailand, China (Shanghai, Nanjing), Hong Kong, Taiwan, and finally Japan, and met with over 83,000 fans in a total of 7 cities.
