Video + Translation 111024 “I Love JK” TVXQ’s Interview on TONE…

[Trans] “I Love JK” TVXQ’s Interview on TONE while they were in Beijing

credit: Get Beginning

Host: From the start, let’s introduce TVXQ and this is their latest Japanese album. This album reaches 200 thousand sales during the first week of release and attained the first place on the charts. This is the first album for Yunho and Changmin and the results through the release of this album gave the duo a confidence boost. Yes, that’s right. For this album, there are unique designs within the album packagings. I’m going to introduce to everyone in today’s programme and what are the unique designs? These are the 3 versions of the albums that were not released in Taiwan. Red, Blue and Yellow. When we placed the three together, we’ll get something amazing. What’s that? See, right here. What is written there? “It Is My Way.” It can only be seen when you piled them together. It’s quite a special design. There’s a card inside the album too which I’ll introduce to you all later. Let’s now take a look when they arrived in Beijing and though their stay was not that long, we managed to arrange an interview from them. We really did our best to get this interview and though the (interview) was short, please support us and now let’s take a look at the interview.

TVXQ: Hello, we are TVXQ (in Chinese)

YH: Hi, I’m Yunho. (in Chinese)

CM: Hi, I’m Changmin. (in Chinese)

About new album

YH:First of all, we released an album in Korea after a long while. Therefore we had a chance to meet with Japanese fans. This album was prepared with great work and we anticipate fans’ responses. We involved a lot of our feelings in this album and were done with a heart of thankfulness. Thus we hoped that fans will be able to hear our improvement while listening to this album.

Japanese album released in Taiwan

CM:For this album.. This album is named TONE. There are various meaning to it, eg. sound, color etc. When we first heard of this title and knew of the various meaning when used differently. As an singer, if we are able to control the various tone, it should be the best joy, isn’t it? To name this album as TONE, and in this album, other than the ballads and dance numbers we are used to, we tried something that’s similar to a fast tempo band-type and club music etc. As we tried various music genres, it is an album that’s worth everyone’s attention.

About the good sales results of the Japanese album

YH: Firstly, we want to thank everyone and other than loving TVXQ, we enjoy our work and would like to close up the distance between our fans and us. Hopefully everyone will listen to our songs and we will become an even more hardworking TVXQ.

About TONE’s train

CM: When we heard about this, we felt that it’s very novel. When I saw the photos on the net, I really wish to go there and take a commemorative photo myself. However due to some problems and time issue, I wasn’t able to do it. If I had the chance, I would like to take a ride on that train.

Any plans for performances in Taiwan?

YH: To be honest, there’s no confirmed plan as of now. But next year, there’s a plan for Asia Tour and it’s still under discussion. We’ll let Taiwanese fans know if it’s confirmed. Maybe in the near future, the good news will arrive.

TVXQ: You are currently watching, I Love JK. (in chinese)

Host: This interview was done in Beijing recently where TVXQ went for a fan meeting and we managed to get an interview for everyone. Hopefully everyone enjoyed it. Let’s continue to introduce the album. There’s a card inside each album and let’s see what we’ve got. It’s about the size of the album and this is Yunho and Changmin’s. Next, this is also a duo photo. Next we had Changmin’s solo photo, Changmin’s again, then Yunho’s, Yunho’s and duo photo. This is their card in the album and now let’s introduce a song from this album, B.U.T.

Translation 111020 Wang Ji Hae Talks About Kim Jaejoong In Her Latest Interview

[TRANS] 111020 Wang Ji Hae Talks About Kim Jaejoong In Her Latest Interview

T/N: The title of the article has been changed to be more relevant to the members.

Though it’s been a month since SBS’ ‘Protect the Boss’ has handed, it is still fresh in the minds of its viewers. It’s because the drama gave us such fun and interesting characters such as No Eun Seol (Choi Kang Hee), who has nothing but still speaks her mind, Cha Ji Hun (Ji Sung), the perfect chaebol who stimulates our maternal instincts, and Cha Mu Won (Kim Jaejoong), the cold yet caring perfect guy.

Though she first appeared as the bad girl who bullies No Eun Seol, Seo Na Yoon later became a key element of the drama’s success with her bubbly nature. The reason why the Na Yoon-Mu Won couple gained as such support as the Eun Seol- Ji Hun couple cannot solely be because of Kim Jaejoong’s popularity.

It is because Wang Ji Hae, who has taken on many roles as a femme fatale and ‘ChaDoNyeo’ with her sophisticated city look till now, decided to do whatever she could to be comical and cute.

When asked if she was content with her own unique portrayal of a bad girl in ‘Protect the Boss’, Wang Ji Hae said, “I was surprised and happy that people liked what I did. I can’t say that I’m content with what I did. Because I received such a great response, I began to feel a sense of greed to do better, so I feel slightly disappointed. There were times when that greed would ruin it. I tried hard not to be calculating as I played my part.”

Next is our Q&A session with her.

(omitted)

-Your partner was from the popular group JYJ, did you feel pressured about the more affectionate scenes?

▶At first, I did feel pressured, but later on, I didn’t have much time to think about it because I was so busy. I wanted to finish filming the scenes in one take, so I didn’t feel that much pressure when he had to film a scene a second time. At times when I was rewatching the footage, I thought people might not like some of the scenes because I was too enthusiastic but we were able to finish everything without any problems.”

-How was Kim Jaejoong?

▶If Kim Jaejoong had felt like a member of JYJ, then I might have been nervous but because he took on his role as Kim Jaejoong, the rookie actor, I didn’t feel too nervous. He’s honest, easygoing, and true to himself and to others. He’s very considerate of others, he takes care of the staff members and he has a heart that is willing embrace everything, which might come from his years of experience in the entertainment industry. I called him Mu Won and we were at ease with each other as we acted out our scenes. We would share ideas and run lines so we had great chemistry together.

-The members of JYJ came and bought everyone lunch.

▶When they brought us all a buffet, I ate with gusto. It was just one meal but it was something that gave all our staff members great strength. I haven’t done any events for staff members before so I’d like to give it a go in the future.

-Did you ad-lib at times?

▶We did in the last scene where we measured my height and said, “Let’s see how much you’ve grown?” I think the scene went smoothly because we really got into the characters of Mu Won and Na Yoon. Lots of people told me that they could relate to the scene.

-In real life, would you pick Ji Sung or Kim Jaejoong?

▶I think I would pick Ji Hun as a boyfriend and Mu Won as someone I’d want to marry. I like guys who can take care of me because I do get a bit flustered. But I’ve always wanted to share a pure and cozy love with someone.

-Lee Minho, Hyun Bin and Kim Jaejoong, you seem to have a lot of luck when it comes to men?

▶I must have done something good in my past life. Though I haven’t had much luck in terms of popularity, I do think I’m lucky when it comes to coworkers and productions. They were all great. Usually, you come across actors who are selfish and want to stand out but none of them were like that. I was able to act well and share my troubles and concerns with all of them.

NEWS 111017 Lee Soo Man On His System of Management…

[News] 111017 Lee Soo Man on his system of management, upcoming groups M1 & M2, and his dreams

SM Entertainment‘s mastermind, Lee Soo Man (60), recently sat down with Chosun for an interview, where he revealed his thoughts on a variety of topics, including his management system, his new groups ‘M1‘ and ‘M2‘, and his possible venture into the American market. Check out his interview below!

> The biggest contributing factor to Kpop’s widespread success is the long term contracts:

Lee Soo Man became the first person in the Korean entertainment industry to implement a systematic and scientific management system. He picked trainees to foster into idol stars, who all signed 13-year contracts. By doing this, he essentially became the principal of a school of talented students.

However, these long term contracts have been controversial and often referred to as ‘slave contracts’ (after negotiations with the Fair Trade Commission, the length of the contract term has been reduced to 7 years if artists are only promoting within Korea, 10 years if going overseas). 13 years is a long time to the trainees, but it’s also a long time for the management as well, since they are making a 13 year promise to take responsibility in transforming the trainees into stars.

Lee Soo Man cited these long term contracts as the biggest contributing factor to K-Pop’s widespread success all over the world.

He stated,

Even the U.S. couldn’t establish a management system like ours. Picking trainees, signing a long term contract, and teaching trainees for a long period of time, this just can’t happen in the U.S. U.S. agencies are hired as sub-contractors after an artist has grown and gained popularity on their own. As a result, the agencies only play roles of sub-contractors, and can’t make long term investments in singer-hopefuls.

However, in Korea and Japan, whose cultural industries developed later, agencies were free to make such contracts. That’s why we have been able to make these long term investments.

While on the topic of ‘industries’, the reporter took the opportunity to question Lee Soo Man about “CT”. They asked, “You came up with the word CT (Culture Technology). What is the secret to becoming the winner in the CT industry?”

Lee Soo Man replied,

“The IT (information technology) industry is often said to be a high risk-high profit industry. However, CT is an industry with an even bigger risk-profit ratio. In an industry like this, the most important thing is to avoid things that happen by chance, or only once.

To give an example, a talented artisan possesses pottery making skills that are unrivaled by anyone. His skills lie in his sense of touch and his fingertips. If you want to learn these skills, you have no choice but to train under him. However, if this skill can be recorded carefully and taught to disciples, and if he could pass this skill down successfully and receive copyright fees – this could become an industry.

This is what SM Entertainment is trying to do. Whatever skills I, or one of our employees possess, are written out and passed down through training and education. Only then can something become continuous. If this kind of system cannot be established, everything will only have happened by chance and end as a one-time occurrence.”

He also added, “People worry that without Lee Soo Man, SM will come to an end, so that’s why a ‘clone’ has been made to take the place of Lee Soo Man.”

He revealed that this ‘clone’ is a team made up of six people who are specialists in areas like dance, singing, and mixing music. He stated, “Something better than a copy of Lee Soo Man will be produced, and SM will become even bigger.”

– > Patience is Lee Soo Man’s secret to his management:

The entertainment industry is essentially about making the right choices; choosing the best singer, choosing the best staff, choosing the best music. Knowing this, Lee Soo Man handles each decision with extreme patience. Before making a choice, he looks over almost an excessive amount of options, but if he thinks that there is no answer, he will cleanly give it up. There have been many occurrences of ‘sunken costs’ that could not be recovered, but Lee Soo Man doesn’t seem to care. Rather than risking his neck for a product that is ‘so-so’, he is willing to invest the time and money until the best comes out.

Taking this into consideration, Lee Soo Man introduced the topic of his upcoming group.

SM Entertainment’s new group will be made up of two sub groups who have the same concept. One group will promote in Korea, while the other group will promote with the same song in China. The groups are currently referred to as ‘M1‘ and ‘M2‘.

In order to find the perfect title song for these two groups, SM held an event called ‘Music Camp’ in Denmark and Norway in August. The event drew 50 composers from all over the world, who came to compose a song for SM Entertainment over 3 to 6 days. SM Entertainment showed the composers M1 and M2, and once they explain the concept they wanted and the rhythm they seeked, the composers were free to come up with their own songs.

Even though they held this event twice already, SM Entertainment still hasn’t been able to pick a suitable title song for M1 and M2. Lee Soo Man stated,

“If you look at it from one point, we have thrown away a lot of money. However, we’re always doing things like that. SM Entertainment has three sources of power: training, adherence to the system, and songs. It usually takes about 4 years to launch a new group. In order to write one song for TVXQ, 50 people had gathered. It required around 4 billion won ($3.5 million USD) for TVXQ to make their debut. In addition, another 4 billion Korean Won was required for album production and promotional fees.”

Lee Soo Man then went on to explain how his patience and methodical system allowed him to create super idol groups, TVXQ and Super Junior.

After BoA’s successful venture into Japan, the SM Entertainment CEO wanted to create a group that could be successful not only in Asia, but all over the world. Since he had a limited number of trainees, much deliberation and focus was needed to decide how to make this group happen. Lee Soo Man decided to choose the best members out of several trainee teams to create a new group that could be considered “major league”. This group was none other than TVXQ.

As for Super Junior, Lee Soo Man revealed, “All the other groups were on the verge of being dissolved. However, since they signed contracts with us, we had to take responsibility. So out of these groups, the group that we raised to do well both in music and variety shows was Super Junior. They put in their sweat and tears to survive [in the industry], and we felt bad [watching them] so we tried to help them.”

And what about SM Entertainment’s plans for expansion into the U.S.?

The reporter asked, “SM TOWN is going to be held at Madison Square Garden in New York, are you going to be making an official venture into the U.S.?” Lee Soo Man replied,

“No, it’s not like that. Rather than venturing into the U.S., we are just holding a concert as a consolation for the people we consider a part of an imaginary country called SM TOWN. The markets of China and Asia will be bigger than the U.S. market. Thus, it isn’t really necessary to go into the U.S. In the near future, when a ‘Hollywood of Asia’ appears, the cultural center of the world will make a big shift to Asia. Asian songs are not well known in the U.S.? Totally irrelevant because Asia will soon become the center.”

– > Lee Soo Man’s dreams for the future:

Lee Soo Man is a man who is always dreaming. His current dream involves producing a musical like ‘Billy Elliot’, where he’ll draw different groups from all over the world and have them perform. He revealed that the story would be about a mom and a child arguing over classic and pop music, but end up realizing that better music can be produced when the two are combined. The musical would feature a combination of past and new songs of SM Entertainment.

As this interview was being conducted, the news about Teddy Riley composing SNSD’s new song broke out. When asked to comment about the news, Lee Soo Man commented, “It’s my dream to produce a composer that makes the most money in the world through SM Entertainment.”

Translation 111016 Hayato’s Blog Update “I Will Support Them Even 100 Years Later

[Trans] 111016 Hayato’s Blog Update, “I will support them even 100 years later”

Everyone did a good job.

Following the performance yesterday, today’s performance was also the best.

I can’t even express it in words.

I think this deep emotion will become a memory in me that is engraved in my heart.

Right now, we have done finishing up everything with them.

Today, I had something to ask Jaejoong.

I’m sure it is something that everyone also wants to ask.

I was waiting for him to drink a bit and get into a good mood, but he already brought a glass to come and greet me.

I told him, “I have something I want to ask you when you’re a bit drunk.”
And Jaejoong said, “Ah~ but I’m already drunkk???”

And I asked him.
He answered my question directly and sincerely.

Right now, I can’t reveal to you the question that I asked him and the answer that Jaejoong gave me.
I think there would be a time when I can reveal those to you.
Please be patient and wait until that time comes.

But at least I can say this.
Japanese fans are his greatest happiness.
With tears filling up his eyes… he told me how much he appreciate you guys.
There are moments that he choked on his words.
Even without me telling you, you would understand what I mean by that. I’m glad about that. I think we were talking for more than one hour.

Not only me but everyone around us who were listening to him could not stop their tears from falling either.
I’m sorry that I can’t tell you about this talk in details either.
But the feelings were somehow conveyed to you, weren’t they?
On the other side, Junsu kept singing
I told him, “Ne, Junsu, because you’re a good boy… can you be quiet for a little bit” LOL
You don’t have this kind of luxury, do you?

There’s one thing that we can do for them… to keep believing in JYJ… the only one thing that we can do.

We hugged each other when it was time to say goodbye.
“Thank you… I will keep supporting you guys forever…”
I told them that and bid farewell to them.

JYJ is the best!!!
Thank you for everything today!!!

Translation 111012 Choi Kang Hee Says, “Ji Sung Is A Perfect Guy, Kim Jaejoong Is A Charming Guy”

Translation 111006 Choi Kang Hee Praises Kim Jaejoong’s Acting,” He’s Naturally Gifted At Understanding Emotions”

[TRANS] 111006 Choi Kang Hee Praises Kim Jaejoong’s Acting, ” He’s Naturally Gifted At Understanding Emotions”

Actress Choi Kang Hee (34) highly praised Kim Jaejoong(25)’s acting.

In an interview with TV Report on the 5th, Choi Kang Hee said, “Isn’t he such a great actor?” as soon as a question about Kim Jaejoong was posed to her.

The actress took on the role of No Eun Seol in the recently ended SBS TV drama ‘Protect the Boss’ and worked alongside Ji Sung as Cha Ji Hun and Kim Jaejoong as Cha Mu Won.

Kim Jaejoong, for whom ‘Protect the Boss’ was his first domestic drama, was praised by many for his stable acting during the entire drama. Even Choi Kang Hee, his acting senior, didn’t hold back on her praise for him.

Choi Kang Hee said, “Jaejoong’s personality is so different from Cha Mu Won’s in real life that it made me think that he would have been more comfortable playing Cha Ji Hun,” and “When I first received the script, I thought that Cha Mu Won was the hardest role to take on. But when I heard that a rookie would be playing the part, I found myself thinking of the immense amount of pressure that was placed on Jaejoong’s shoulders. It’s a role that even I would worry a lot about. But he just took off running from the start. He was really good, even when he had just received his script that day, and I was surprised.

She also reminisced and added, “Even after we had a run-through, people were really worried out of their concern for him. But I had a good feeling about him. So after the run-through, I walked up to the director and told him, ‘I think if you just leave him be, he’ll be great’,” and “I thought it would do him more harm than good if Jaejoong was told how to talk and walk as Cha Mu Won, so we just let him be and he did really well. I think he’s naturally gifted at understanding emotions.

Emphasizing that, “I’ve never once felt worried about Jaejoong,” Choi Kang Hee smiled as she sad, “Jaejoong didn’t get tense on location and he seemed at ease with himself. Ji Sung and I have been acting for a long time, so we automatically know what kind of acting works for dramas. Although Jaejoong was a rookie, he would unexpectedly crank out such great scenes and I found that so amazing. So our female editors all fell for Jaejoong.

Interview JYJ Speaks Out #1

KBS’s review is unqualified: (Jaejoong) Because tracks of an album that aren’t the title song often fail to pass the review, I didn’t feel offended when I first received the news. But the problem is ‘why the song failed to pass the review’. They laid down the verdict that the song was unsuitable for airing because of a word that they made an assumption about and made up without asking the creator for the actual meaning. To mark something off in the way they want and to give a notice of this is disrespecting the creator.

P.S.M: (Jaejoong) It means Performer Success Museum. Everyone wants to find success in their lives. But it is only possible to succeed by receiving help or education from institutions or borrowing the strength of others. For example, if we assume that schools or private educational institutes are museums that make you successful, then the people within these institutes lie to the people who are looking for hope. They say, ‘We don’t care about the materialistic things, we just want to help you’. That’s what it means.

Concert: (Jaejoong) When we hold our concerts, we deliberately try to put in as much time to talk as possible. It’s to the extent that one could ask ‘Is this a concert or a fanmeet?’ We don’t have many outlets in which we can communicate with our fans. By choosing to focus our activities on concerts, we keep increasing the number of songs we have and present these to our fans, and we try to have as many conversations as possible with them. It’s like we vent out our emotions in front of our fans. Though we decided on a theme for every concert, we end up ignoring that theme because we talk so much and we start joking around. (laughter)

Solo Concert in Europe: (Yoochun) Though we’re holding a tour in Europe, we won’t change our color and style just because the venue of our concert has changed. We try to integrate JYJ’s color in the culture of these countries. (Junsu) Even when we had our North American tour in Canada and the LA, San Francisco and New Jersey regions, we felt this great sense of pressure like we do now for our Europe tour. But once we actually got to the concert venue, we saw that there were more fans who had waited for us than we had expected. Though we’re worried, we try to think of it in a positive way.We think of the fact that we’ve gotten this far as a miracle, and we hope that another miracle will ensue.

Director Kim Jaejoong: (Jaejoong) I like to meddle in things a lot. If something’s even a little out-of-place, I try to set it straight so I keep butting in. That’s how I started directing. Even with our music, I went from saying ‘I don’t like the lyrics’ to ‘Let me write them’. And when I wrote lyrics that were suitable, that’s how I began writing my own lyrics, and I have a lot of small greeds that I wish to fulfill.

Yunho, Changmin: (Jaejoong) They often appear in our dreams. Once, all three of us dreamt of them on the same night. I think a considerably large amount of time has passed. Though the misunderstandings that came about because of the time and distance we’ve spent apart may take more time to unravel, shall I say that for us, a lot of it has already disappeared? We want to meet with them and talk, just once.

Translation 111008 JYJ Speaks Out #2

Kim Jaejoong

Heodang (Lacking): Though Cha Mu Won of ‘Protect the Boss’ is a chaebol, there is definitely something he can’t do. His weakness is that he’s not good at fighting because all he does is lock himself up in his office and study. I expressed that in a very ‘heodang (lacking)’ way. I’m like that too. Because I’m not that active, I’m not that good at ball games. In the drama, I was made to look like I was even really good at sports, but in real life, I have a very ‘heodang’ nature. (Yoochun) I think it would be best.. if Jaejoong didn’t play ball games like soccer or basketball in front of others. (laughter)

Ji Sung: Even I could see myself getting better with every new episode. It would have been impossible if it weren’t for Ji Sung. He must have been busy enough studying his own character, but he took care of me and helped me run my lines. I think the scenes in which we were acting together came alive because I normally feel comfortable around Ji Sung.

Individual Activities: As you all know, we started pursuing individual activities to promote JYJ as we were unable to appear on music programs. Our individual activities became a great opportunity for us to promote JYJ. It started like that but we feel the charm of being an actor or a musical actor more and more as time goes on. (Yoochun) But personally, I don’t feel confident about pursuing a career in musicals. I think I’d be compared too much to Junsu. (laughter)

Park Yoochun

Cha Mu Won (Kim Jaejoong) of ‘Protect the Boss’: He took on his character very well. I found myself naturally falling into the drama as I watched it. I also feel envious of Jaejoong because he took on a character that could present something different from his original image and did so very well. It’s so much that if I ever get the chance, I’d like to play a character similar to the one that Jaejoong portrayed. I’m not joking when I saw that I could see this unknown aura around Jaejoong. So I thought, ‘So this is the power of Jaejoong. (Jaejoong) Thank you. My senior~

Song Yoo Hyun: While playing Song Yoo Hyun in MBC’s ‘Miss Ripley’, there were many moments when I thought, ‘If this were me, I would have exploded.’ But I acted with the understanding that, ‘It could happen because it’s Song Yoo Hyun.’ Though I can’t say that there weren’t moments when I felt frustrated, I laid down the judgment that it was because I was too unskilled in my portrayal of Song Yoo Hyun. If I felt frustrated, wouldn’t Song Yoo Hyun feel a little frustrated too? It was only after I was done filming the drama that I began to think ‘Couldn’t I have been able to express this in another way?’ instead of thinking that the script wasn’t helping with the frustration I had.

The villain’s part: I want to try playing the villain. I think the biggest reason is because I don’t look like a bad guy. Though I want to try taking on a role that pulls me away from the image I have now, I think it would only be right for me to take on such a role after I’ve become more experienced. For now, I want to try everything, regardless of the character.

Kim Junsu

Drama: It’s not that I’m not interested, it’s just that I had already taken part in two musicals this year and wanted to take a break instead of pursuing solo activities. And because each of the other members had his own schedules drawn for his respective drama, I believed it was only right for me to take that time to support them. I’d like to try acting in a drama someday. But it looked so tiring for Jaejoong and Yoochun to stay up all night filming, so I’m in a dilemma.
