[TRANS] 130417 ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master’ Max Changmin Is Deemed By His Opponent As ‘The Easiest To Beat’

The episode of KBS 2TV’s variety show ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’ that aired on the 16th showed Max Changmin looking offended at being chosen by his opponents as the person who looked the easiest to beat.

On this day’s episode, the celebrity team of Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Geun, Kim Byung Man, Park Sung Ho, Max Changmin, Jo Dal Hwan and Minho went up against the Sangdo-dong team of Park Seon Wook, Lee Sang Hee, Kang Eun Soon, Jo Han Sung, Kang Bong Seok, Kwon Min Seon and Kim Young Rae in a battle of table tennis.

Before the competition began, Sangdo-dong’s Kwon Min Seon was asked, “Which member of the celebrity team would you like to go up against?” and shyly picked Max Changmin.

Following this, Kang Ho Dong asked, “Who would be your ideal type?” and was met by an unexpected answer of Kwon Min Seon choosing Kim Byung Man instead of Max Changmin.

Max Changmin was unable to hide his surprise and when he was told by Kwon Min Seon that she had chosen him because of his lack of table tennis skills, as she herself had not been playing for long, he had everyone laughing with his retort, “Oh~ (You chose me) because I’d be the easiest to beat?”

Meanwhile, the celebrity team was unable to beat the Sangdo-dong team, even with their hidden ace Jo Dal Hwan, much to the disappointment of the show’s viewers.

[Info] 130416 JYJ to Hold Their Second “Membership Week” in June

[Info] 130416 JYJ to Hold Their Second “Membership Week” in June

Last year, group JYJ successfully held their “2012 JYJ Membership Week,” in which over 15,000 domestic fans and around 7000 Japanese fans descended up Seoul, South Korea to participate in the large-scale exhibit and event. The “membership week” was conceptualized as a fan-service event through which JYJ would be able to “pay back” their fans’ love by providing everything related to the event for free to the fans, with the exception of travel fare. This event marked a recording-breaking number of one-time entry foreigners into the Republic of Korea. It also reportedly cost the group 3.7 billion KRW (3.2 USD).

In response to the success of last year, JYJ will be opening a “membership week” again this year for four days, from June 27 to June 30, at the SETEC hall. This event is expected to cost more than the last, with the group also funding the travel fare of Japanese fans.

CEO Baek Chang Joo of C-JeS Entertainment stated, “We feel certain that we are the only ones capable of holding such a large-scale fan service event. The tickets to the fanmeeting and exhibitions will all be free and there won’t be any sales of other promotional goods. While we received offers of sponsorship and funding, we declined them all. We want this event to purely be a time for JYJ fans and JYJ to make precious memories and for JYJ to relay their thanks for their fans love.”

In related news, JYJ recently completed their Tokyo Dome concert in Japan that reached 150,000 fans over three days.

[Trans] 130417 Kim Jaejoong Buys A Special Gift Of 100 Portions Of Late Night Snacks For Yong Jun Hyung

JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong bought 100 portions of late night snacks for his junior, B2ST’s Yong Jun Hyung.

At midnight of the 16th of April, Kim Jaejoong gifted the staff and cast of Mnet’s ‘MONSTAR’ with 100 portions of chicken and pizza. This was a gift he had prepared for his junior and friend Yong Jun Hyung, in support of the younger star’s first acting role.

Yong Jun Hyung expressed his gratitude to Kim Jaejoong on his personal SNS account and wrote, “It’s a secret that Jaejoong was the one who bought chicken and pizza for all of us on set! Everyone had a smile on their faces as they stuffed themselves with chicken and pizza.”

The staff of ‘MONSTAR’ stayed up all night filming, but were able to temporarily forget their fatigue due to Kim Jaejoong’s gift.

Regarding this, a representative of Kim Jaejoong’s agency explained, “Kim Jaejoong cares a lot about Yong Jun Yung as a junior,” and “He prepared the snacks to show his support for Yong Jun Hyung’s first acting role and to ask the staff to take good care of his junior.”

Meanwhile, ‘MONSTAR’ is a 12-episode music drama that depicts the life of teenagers who are healed by music, and will show the love, friendship and blossoming dreams of the main characters through music.

Director Kim Won Seok, who has taken on many famous dramas such as ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ and ‘Cinderella’s Sister’, has taken charge of the drama and it will begin airing on the 17th of May.

Editors Note: A World of Unrest: The Ball Keeps Rolling

A World of Unrest: The Ball Keeps Rolling

One thing does lead to another. This may sound trite, but whenever there is a reporting of one disaster or potential disaster, it seems as if others are encouraged to vent their own grievances at their society or at society as a whole.

The ongoing inflammatory posturing of North Korea, and even China’s assertions that the United States is stirring up trouble in the Asian region are bad enough without the addition of a violent bomb attack at something as monumental, traditional, and family oriented as the Boston Marathon. The objective in both scenarios is to shock and disorient others in an attempt to gain a personal goal. In the case of North Korea there seems to be an attempt to cause fear and gain rewards for outrageous behavior. The Boston Marathon bomber(s) appear to seek notoriety and the ill satisfaction of killing and wounding others. There is never a reason to take either stance.

Throughout history there have been innumerable examples of posturing, aggression, and terrorism; so this is nothing new under the sun. However, the tragedy is in the sadness that these unnecessary acts of aggression should exist at all, and especially that they should harm and target innocent people. Over the span of the last 100 years, among the outstanding wars and conflicts have been WW I, WW II, The Korean War, The Vietnamese War, and the Mid-East Conflicts. Some of these have never been fully resolved. This leaves a climate of potential trouble that can occur on any day or any hour, and certainly on any continent.

The world is facing an ever-growing disregard for people, societies, and moral values. Life is considered highly expendable, even to the extent of euthanasia which extols allowing the sick to die to benefit society. On the local level there is more disrespect for each other while shopping, traveling, or attending recreational events. On a national and international level this same dynamic is present. Patience as a virtue is not winning the day.

I pray that the Boston Marathon bombing is not a prelude to even more detestable actions on the part of individuals, groups, or world powers. Life is hard enough without having to imagine yourself under an attack from someone you have not only never met, but have never held in contempt or derision.

Please pray for the Richard Family, who suffered the loss of their son, Martin, and also suffered personal injuries. I’m sure that their presence was to support and cheer on a hard-working athlete and father who deserved respect, as did everyone attending or participating in this race. No one at the event deserved pain and injuries.

Please also pray that the investigation of this crime will yield information that will lead authorities to the perpetrators. This tragedy has been compared to 9-11 and the Oklahoma Bombing. It was certainly meant to disrupt a momentous occasion in our nation’s history.

Boston Marathon Bombing: Feds Raid Apartment, Police Seek Rental Van

Boston Marathon Bombing: Feds Raid Apartment, Police Seek Rental Van

Federal authorities late Monday removed several bags from an apartment in a nearby suburb. Police investigating the Boston Marathon bombing have also issued an alert for a rental van and for a hooded man who left the area before the blasts.

By Peter Grier | Christian Science Monitor

Boston was battered but vigilant on Tuesday as an army of federal agents raced to find out who attacked the city’s historic marathon, leaving three dead and more than 100 injured amid a war zone of shattered glass and bomb debris on Patriots Day.

As of Tuesday morning, no persons or group had claimed credit for twin explosions at the finish line near Boston’s Copley Square. The Pakistani Taliban, a group that has threatened the United States in the past, denied participation, according to the Associated Press.

Law enforcement officials questioned an injured Saudi national at a local hospital, but news stories indicated that the individual appears to have no connection to the case. The Boston Globe reported that he was simply a frightened spectator who had tried to flee but was tackled and restrained by bystanders.

On Monday night agents from the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and other law enforcement agencies raided a unit in a high-rise apartment on Ocean Drive in the seaside Boston suburb of Revere, according to information posted online by a participating local fire department. Several bags, including what appeared to be a large duffel bag, were removed from the scene. Authorities were mum as to the specifics of their suspicions but confirmed that the Revere search was related to the case.

Rep. William Keating (D) of Massachusetts, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, told a local CBS reporter that the two bombs at the finish line, which exploded seconds apart, had been stashed in trash receptacles and were clearly a “coordinated attack.” Authorities have discovered two other unexploded devices, he told Boston’s WBZ News.

Other reports said no unexploded devices had been found. A reported fire at Boston’s John F. Kennedy Presidential Library turned out to be the result of an electrical problem and was unrelated to the marathon bombs, according to Boston police.

NBC News reported that the explosive devices near the finish line had been packed with ball bearings to enhance their lethality. Doctors treating some of the 126 wounded at local hospitals said many had been hurt by metal shrapnel, though they added it was unclear whether the metal in question had simply been part of the environment or was the result of a shredded trash receptacle.

Police have issued an alert for a rental van that may have tried to gain access to the finish line area and for a man in dark clothing and a hood seen leaving the scene shortly before the blast, reported NBC. Surveillance video shows a hooded figure carrying two backpacks at about that time.

Among the dead is 8-year-old Martin Richard, whose father was running in the race. The boy’s mother and sister were also gravely injured, according to a Boston Globe report. The family had gathered at the finish line for cheers and celebrations.

Although President Obama did not use the word “terrorism” in remarks to the nation Monday evening, other US officials made it clear that the bombing is being treated as a terrorist attack. That would make it the first such strike on US soil since Sept. 11, 2001, and a deadly reminder that it is impossible to armor all national activities against a terrorist threat.

One thing is clear: The bomber or bombers were not highly skilled. The explosive devices were relatively crude compared with those produced overseas by Al Qaeda or other radical Islamist terrorist groups, RAND Corp. terror expert Brian Jenkins told Los Angeles television. They were much smaller than the powerful truck bomb that Timothy McVeigh used to devastate the federal building in Oklahoma City in April 1995.

In that sense they were analogous to the pipe bombs that killed two and injured 100 in 1996 at Atlanta’s Centennial Park during the Olympics.

The fact that the target was an event of great significance to Boston but not particularly significant to the wider world could indicate that the bomber was a local or at least a native of the United States. The explosions occurred on April 15, tax day, which could be a further indication of a domestic connection.

But the bombs were not directed against a government building or institution, which is often a hallmark of disaffected, lone-wolf domestic terrorists, noted some terrorism analysts. And the style of the attack, in which one explosion was closely followed by another, mimics that used by numerous groups in the Middle East.

One government official told the Los Angeles Times that his guess would be “self-radicalized Islamic extremists from the area.”

Meanwhile, a large area of Back Bay Boston remained sealed off as an enormous outdoor crime scene. Police were working their way through a mountain of bags and other debris left by the fleeing crowd in an effort to ensure that no further explosives will detonate. Cities across the US tightened security, just in case – New York City dispatched police critical response teams to guard sensitive sights, while in Washington the Secret Service expanded the security perimeter around the White House.

In London, authorities were reviewing security plans for Sunday’s London Marathon, the next such major international race.

[TRANS] 130414 Kim Junsu Wins The Best Korean Male Singer Award At A Chinese Music Awards Ceremony

Kim Junsu’s English single ‘UNCOMMITTED’ has won the Best Korean Male Singer Award at the ‘V-chart awards’, held by China’s biggest MV site ‘Yinyue Tai’ on the 13th.

At the first awards ceremony held by the site, Kim Junsu was given the Best Korean Male Singer Award, which was based on a voting poll which fans from all over the world participated in. Kim Junsu’s win was based on his music video’s success on the V-charts during 2012, as well as the votes that were tabulated.

Kim Junsu’s first English single ‘Uncommitted’ is a melodious R&B song that features a collaboration with ‘Bruce Automatic’, the Sony Music composer who has worked with The Wanted and Leona Lewis, and was extremely popular in China, South America and Europe.

C-JeS Entertainment stated, “We believe this award is more meaningful because it included Kim Junsu’s rankings on the V-charts in 2012. Kim Junsu is extremely happy and thankful to have received an award at an overseas awards ceremony with no promotions other than releasing the music video and holding concerts, and he plans to give his thanks through a video soon.”

A representative in the music industry stated, “After JYJ’s Tokyo Dome concert (The return of the JYJ), ‘Uncommitted’ topped Amazon Japan’s K-POP charts, proving just how popular the song is. The reception from Europe and South America has been explosive since Kim Junsu’s 13-city world tour last year.”

North Korea Reportedly Entering ‘State Of War’ Against South Korea

North Korea Reportedly Entering ‘State Of War’ Against South Korea

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea warned Seoul on Saturday that the Korean Peninsula had entered “a state of war” and threatened to shut down a border factory complex that’s the last major symbol of inter-Korean cooperation.

Analysts say a full-scale conflict is extremely unlikely, noting that the Korean Peninsula has remained in a technical state of war for 60 years. But the North’s continued threats toward Seoul and Washington, including a vow to launch a nuclear strike, have raised worries that a misjudgment between the sides could lead to a clash.

In Washington, the White House said Saturday that the United States is taking seriously the new threats by North Korea but also noted Pyongyang’s history of “bellicose rhetoric.”

North Korea’s threats are seen as efforts to provoke the new government in Seoul, led by President Park Geun-hye, to change its policies toward Pyongyang, and to win diplomatic talks with Washington that could get it more aid. North Korea’s moves are also seen as ways to build domestic unity as young leader Kim Jong Un strengthens his military credentials.

On Thursday, U.S. military officials revealed that two B-2 stealth bombers dropped dummy munitions on an uninhabited South Korean island as part of annual defense drills that Pyongyang sees as rehearsals for invasion. Hours later, Kim ordered his generals to put rockets on standby and threatened to strike American targets if provoked.

North Korea said in a statement Saturday that it would deal with South Korea according to “wartime regulations” and would retaliate against any provocations by the United States and South Korea without notice.

“Now that the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK have entered into an actual military action, the inter-Korean relations have naturally entered the state of war,” said the statement, which was carried by Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency, referring to the North’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Provocations “will not be limited to a local war, but develop into an all-out war, a nuclear war,” the statement said.

Hours after the statement, Pyongyang threatened to shut down the jointly run Kaesong industrial park, expressing anger over media reports suggesting the complex remained open because it was a source of hard currency for the impoverished North.”If the puppet group seeks to tarnish the image of the DPRK even a bit, while speaking of the zone whose operation has been barely maintained, we will shut down the zone without mercy,” an identified spokesman for the North’s office controlling Kaesong said in comments carried by KCNA.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry responded by calling the North Korean threat “unhelpful” to the countries’ already frayed relations and vowed to ensure the safety of hundreds of South Korean managers who cross the border to their jobs in Kaesong. It did not elaborate.

South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Kim Min-seok said the country’s military remains mindful of the possibility that increasing North Korean drills near the border could lead to an actual provocation.

“The series of North Korean threats – announcing all-out war, scrapping the cease-fire agreement and the non-aggression agreement between the South and the North, cutting the military hotline, entering into combat posture No. 1 and entering a `state of war’ – are unacceptable and harm the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula,” Kim said.

“We are maintaining full military readiness in order to protect our people’s lives and security,” he told reporters Saturday.

In Washington, Caitlin Hayden, a spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council, noted the “reports of a new and unconstructive statement from North Korea.”

“We take these threats seriously and remain in close contact with our South Korean allies,” Hayden said. “But, we would also note that North Korea has a long history of bellicose rhetoric and threats, and today’s announcement follows that familiar pattern.”

The White House has stressed the U.S. government’s capability and willingness to defend itself and its allies and interests in the region, if necessary.

“We remain fully prepared and capable of defending and protecting the United States and our allies,” Hayden said.

The two Koreas remain technically at war because the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce, not a peace treaty. Naval skirmishes in the disputed waters off the Korean coast have led to bloody battles several times over the years.

But on the streets of Seoul on Saturday, South Koreans said they were not worried about an attack from North Korea.

“From other countries’ point of view, it may seem like an extremely urgent situation,” said Kang Tae-hwan, a private tutor. “But South Koreans don’t seem to be that nervous because we’ve heard these threats from the North before.”

The Kaesong industrial park, which is run with North Korean labor and South Korean know-how, has been operating normally, despite Pyongyang shutting down a communications channel typically used to coordinate travel by South Korean workers to and from the park just across the border in North Korea. The rivals are now coordinating the travel indirectly, through an office at Kaesong that has outside lines to South Korea.

North Korea has previously made such threats about Kaesong without acting on them, and recent weeks have seen a torrent of bellicose rhetoric from Pyongyang. North Korea is angry about the South Korea-U.S. military drills and new U.N. sanctions over its nuclear test last month.

Dozens of South Korean firms run factories in the border town of Kaesong. Using North Korea’s cheap, efficient labor, the Kaesong complex produced $470 million worth of goods last year.

Associated Press White House reporter Darlene Superville contributed to this report.

BEIJING — U.S. and Chinese leaders said Saturday that their countries are committed to finding a peaceful way to ensure a nuclear-free Korean peninsula.

“We are determined to make that goal a reality,” U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said after talks with Chinese officials and before having dinner with China’s foreign policy chief, Yang Jiechi.

“China and the United States must together take steps in order to achieve the goal of a denuclearized Korean peninsula. And today we agreed that further discussions to bear down very quickly with great specificity on exactly how we will accomplish this goal,” America’s top diplomat told reporters.

Yang, speaking through an interpreter, said China was “firmly committed to upholding peace and stability and advancing the denuclearization process on the Korean peninsula. We maintain that the issue should be handled and resolved peacefully.”

He said China will work with the U.S. and other nations involved in past international talks on North Korea, adding that “to properly address the Korean nuclear issue serves the interests of all parties.”

Kerry spoke of “our joint commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula in a peaceful manner. We agreed that this is of critical importance for the stability of the region and indeed for the world and indeed for all of our nonproliferation efforts.”
