JYJ Junsu’s friendship with his US dance crew has become a hot topic.
On the 6th, JYJ’s Junsu posted a photo on his personal Twitter account of his US dance crew enjoying themselves at an amusement park.
The uploaded photo shows his dance crew enjoying themselves with a childlike glee, and their gratitude to Kim Junsu for providing them with such a gift is clearly shown on their faces.
Regarding this, a representative stated, “The dance crew, who have worked with some of the greatest pop stars in the US, were completely immersed in Kim Junsu’s wholesome after-party ideas. With a small break in between his Seoul and Busan concerts, Junsu took everyone in his dance crew to an amusement park and paid for their tickets.”
He continued to add, “After his Seoul concert on the 4th, they all went to a bowling alley to participate in a friendly match. Pitting the US against Korea, the dancers couldn’t hide their wonder at Kim Junsu’s bowling skills. Though the dance crew were powerful, they were not enough to beat the Korean staff members in the opposing team.”
Jeri Slaughter, who is in charge of the dance crew, stated, “Junsu’s happy energy makes everyone around him happy. I don’t think there’s another artiste in this world who would take his dance crew bowling after a concert. It was a great chance for us all to bond and become more energetic. Korean amusement parks are amazing. The rides are quite spectacular and thrilling. I’d like for us to pour all this energy into the Busan performances.
XIA Junsu will be continuing his Asia Tour at the Busan BEXCO on the 10th and 11th of August.

Regarding the ’2014 Incheon Asian Games Commemorative Hallyu Concert’ controversy, JYJ’s agency C-JeS Entertainment stated, “We’re waiting for the final statement of the committee.”
Since February, JYJ have been acting as the honorary ambassadors of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games’. However, when it was discovered that their names were not included in the guest list of the September 1st ‘commemorative concert’, a controversy arose on whether JYJ are being blocked from appearing on a broadcasted program yet again.
C-JeS stated, “Rather than coming to a hasty decision, we will wait for the final statement of the committee.” The representative stated, “We have submitted a formal objection regarding this issue. A misunderstanding arose when the Incheon Development and Tourism Corporation, who are in charge of inviting singers to perform at the concert, notified the committee that, ‘JYJ declined their invitation’. We set the record straight that we have never received an actual invitation to perform at the concert. We have been told that the committee will verify the truth of the situation by tomorrow.”
They continued to add, “The committee is of the official stance that JYJ’s domestic and overseas promotions for next year’s sporting event will begin in September. We will await the committee’s final decision.”
The current guest list of the Hallyu concert features a total of 20 teams including Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, KARA, SISTAR and miss A.

“Friend is one soul put together in two bodies, who understand each other and do not push you out.”
(Trans: @rubypurple_fan)
On the topic ‘friend’, Jaejoong said “Manners must be preserved [even between friends]. Recently I denounced my friendship with 3 fellows. Unfortunately, they crossed the line – the do’s and don’ts in friendship.” and “For instance, when there’s an age gap between someone and me, even if I talk informally with him, it means the distance between our hearts is shortened, not that he doesn’t need to observe his manners that should still be preserved between us. I can’t be a friend with that kind of person who ignores the line.”

“I saw this with my own eyes. I saw JYJ becoming the honorary ambassadors of the Incheon Asian Games. Although the city of Incheon uses JYJ as their global honorary ambassadors, they are trying to hide JYJ from the Korean people. You can’t see neither hide nor hair of JYJ at the music festival held to commemorate the Incheon Asian Games. A commemorative concert without the event’s own honorary ambassadors, this is a global embarrassment.”
This was a SNS post made by a JYJ fan on the 7th. When you read through it slowly, you can feel the rage simmering underneath. Various SNS sites have been filled with posts that say, “We can’t understand why JYJ, the honorary ambassadors of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games’, will not be present at the Hallyu concert held to commemorate the sporting event.”
JYJ’s fans are seething because of this. Though they have been fighting against variety shows and music programs for many years over JYJ’s absence, the situation is a little different this time around. This is because the Incheon Asian Games, a national event, is different from ‘being banned’ from the three major broadcasting companies.
JYJ have been working as the honorary ambassadors of the Incheon Asian Games since February. The committee of the sporting event revealed, “We have decided to choose JYJ, who are very popular in Asia, as the honorary ambassadors of the Asian Games in order to increase awareness and promote overseas.”
Kim Young Soo, the chairman of the Asian Games Committee, was of a similar opinion when he said, “We hope that JYJ’s global recognition will help spread the word about the 2014 Incheon Asian Games to the 4 billion people of Asia.” JYJ also recorded the official cheer song in May and have already participated in official activities as honorary ambassadors.
But their names have been excluded from the guest list of the Hallyu concert that will be held on the 1st of September to commemorate the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. If the singers who are the honorary ambassadors of the event can’t appear in the concert, then who can?
“The PR department, in charge of all activities of the honorary ambassadors, did ask if JYJ would be appearing in the concert”
The list of 20 groups expected to perform at the concert includes 2AM, A-JAX, B.A.P, BTOP, EXO, FT ISLAND, miss A, ZE:A, Girls’ Day, BTS, Boyfriend, B2ST, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, SECRET, SISTAR, MBLAQ, KARA, T-ara and TEEN TOP. Most of the groups on the list are from SM and JYP, prominent entertainment agencies in Korea. Girls’ Generation’s Yuri and Tiffany will emcee the event.
With the official title of ‘the 2013 Incheon Hallyu Tourism Concert’, this event will be hosted by the City of Incheon and the 2013 Incheon Asian Games committee, broadcasted by MBC and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Starting in 2009 as ‘To The Korean Music Wave’, this will be the fifth planned concert of the series. The concert will be supervised by HH Company, run by comedian Lee Hyuk Jae, the Incheon Development and Tourism Corporation and the Incheon Times.
Regarding the guest list, a representative of the Committee’s Cultural Events sector stated, “The list is not set in stone,” and “From what I know, the details are still being ironed out.” When asked about the appearance of honorary ambassadors JYJ, they replied, “The PR department, in charge of all activities of the honorary ambassadors, did ask if JYJ would be appearing in the concert.”
Simplified, this implies that the activities of the honorary ambassadors and the appearance in the concert are handled by two different departments, meaning that they are being dealt with as two different issues. If the PR department had to go so far as asking about JYJ, this could be seen as saying that their appearance has not been discussed with HH Company at all.
Also, the committee representative emphasized that the guest list was not confirmed. One wonders if 20 teams will actually be able to perform at a concert that goes from 7p.m. to 9:30p.m.. Though it’s said that this will be the fifth concert of the series, last year’s concert by HH Company and MBC Music was cancelled one week ahead of the concert due to various rumors, receiving the ire of Hallyu fans who were planning to attend the event.
Entertainment agencies are able to exclude honorary ambassadors from the guest list?
On the 24th of July, the Fair Trade Commission found SM Entertainment and the Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Arts Industries guilty of interfering with JYJ’s broadcasted appearances and activities as singers. Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu left TVXQ in 2009 and formed JYJ, but were blocked from appearing on broadcasted shows by SM in 2010 whe the agency sent a notice to 26 licensees in the industry.
Common sense dictates that there should be no issues anymore surrounding JYJ’s appearance on broadcasted programs. Considering the fact that JYJ’s Park Yoochun helped raise the viewership of KBS’ ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’, even taking him to the broadcasting company’s end-of-the-year awards, KBS should ‘logically’ be the first to break the dam.
In reality, there seems to be something that is above the FTC’s verdict and the Asian Games’ committee. The fact that the Asian Games’ own honorary ambassadors can’t perform as singers at a concert under the sporting event’s name is not only illogical, but also terrifying as it shows that the ‘silent but deadly’ force of large-scale entertainment agencies still dominates the pop culture industry.
JYJ’s shackles have been highlighted by the FTC’s verdict, and many are curious to see if this ‘unlawful’ wind will further affect the activities of the Incheon Asian Games’ honorary ambassadors.

Fierce competition for ‘Elisabeth’ tickets, the Seoul Arts Center’s homepage crashes
A flood of fans are aching for tickets to see JYJ’s Kim Junsu (XIA) in the musical ‘Elisabeth’, leading to the homepage of the Seoul Arts Center, who are in charge of ticket reservations for the musical, to crash.
At 10a.m. on the 6th, Interpark and the Seoul Arts Center opened up the third round of ticket reservations for the musical ‘Elisabeth’.
Kim Junsu’s fans flooded in to grab tickets for Kim Junsu’s performances. Almost as soon as reservations opened up, the Seoul Arts Center’s homepage crashed. Though fans could access Interpark, Kim Junsu’s shows were sold out in an instant.
The reason behind the Seoul Arts Center homepage’s crash is probably Kim Junsu’s fans. Many of the posts written on various online communities were made by Kim Junsu and JYJ’s fans and said, “I want to get a ticket but I can’t access the website.”
During the first and second round of ticket reservations, most Kim Junsu-related online communities were flooded with posts about buying tickets for Kim Junsu’s ‘Elisabeth’ performances.
Meanwhile, Kim Junsu, who is charge of the role Death (Tod), attended the ‘Elisabeth’ press call on the 25th of July at the Seoul Arts Center and said, “‘Elisabeth’ is the production that won me the Best Musical Actor Award. I loved working with the greatest actors of the industry and I wanted to feel that excitement again. I’m happy to be working with everyone in this year’s cast. I learned so much from Robert Johansson last year, and I’d like to learn more from him this year.”
The musical ‘Elisabeth’ is a production that depicts the life of the beautiful Austrian empress Elisabeth. Her dramatic life story of love and death is highlighted by the fantasy character of Death.
Ok Joo Hyun, Kim Junsu, Park Eun Tae, Min Young Ki and Lee Jung Hwa will be joined by Kim So Hyun, Park Hyo Shin, Lee Ji Hoon, Kim Isak and Noh Ji Hoon, and the musical will be performed from the 26th of July till the 7th of September at the Seoul Arts Center’s Opera Hall.

Stealing the hearts of men with talents far beyond a normal idol
XIA Junsu recently held another concert.
On the 3rd and 4th of August, JYJ’s XIA Junsu held a concert at COEX to commemorate the release of his second solo album ‘Incredible’. Titled ‘XIA 2nd ASIA TOUR in SEOUL’, XIA Junsu captivated 18,000 fans with his fatal charm for two days.
What was most surprising was the wide age range of the audience, as well as the fact that both genders were in attendance. Though the majority of the fans in the audience were women, it wasn’t too hard to find male fans amongst the crowd.
Male fans could be spotted here and there in the concert venue to enjoy the ‘Incredible’ concert. There were some who had come with their girlfriends or friends, but there were others standing in the mosh pits for a full 120 minutes to enjoy the show. There were some who had come alone, and it was apparent that both old and young men were in attendance to be captivated by XIA Junsu’s charm.
Fans who had come with their families could also be spotted. Fathers who had come to the concert holding the hands of their daughters could be seen in the crowd. Actor Seol Kyung Goo had also come with his daughter, with this being his second concert since last Winter’s performance. Many young teenagers could also be seen in the audience. Though XIA Junsu has not had much public exposure since beginning an exclusive contract lawsuit with his former agency in 2009, it was interesting to see the large number of teenage fans at the concert.
Such a sight is hard to see at an idol singer’s concert. Even the reporters at the event were surprised by the large number of male fans. This was more so considering the fact that it was a solo concert and not of a group. It was proof of how much XIA Junsu’s fandom has expanded over the years. The male fans danced, waved their hands and shouted to the rhythm of the music. They didn’t seem out-of-place with fanlights in their hands and MD goods wrapped around their necks.
XIA Junsu said, “There are a lot of male fans here today, like yesterday,” and “Would only the men scream for me?” In response, quite a few men waved their hands in the air and gave a low-toned shout. It was like being a concert by Lee Seung Hwan or Psy.
An interesting moment took place on the 4th. During ‘Genie Time’, when he grants three wishes from the audience, a male fan asked him to sing Lee Sora’s ‘The Wind is Blowing’ and even gave him a piece of papers that he’d written the lyrics on. Though XIA Junsu was surprised at first by the unexpected request, he completed the task with his sweet voice.
Then why did so many male fans flock to XIA Junsu’s concert?
It was probably his extraordinary vocal talent. He’s not just an idol singer who appeals with good looks or tricks, he’s a singer who has unwavering skills that heighten the overall satisfaction of a performance. When men become fans of singers of the same-sex, they usually prefer talented artistes.
Though he was taking on performances so powerful that he was sweating like a waterfall, XIA Junsu’s vocals never wavered and was recognized for his talents. Even men do not put XIA Junsu’s concerts in the same class as other idols.
Add in his masculinity and his ability to appeal to even the smallest emotions, and XIA Junsu is more than capable of captivated even the hearts of men as well as women.
After attending the concert, Kim Jung Hwan (Seoul, Geumchun-gu) said, “Though I had always heard that XIA Junsu was a great singer, I didn’t know he was this good,” and “His voice never wavered, even when his choreography required a lot of movement, and it was amazing. He’s better than anyone when it comes to stage presence.”
Seeing men and families in the crowd at a concert. This seems to be another characteristic unique to XIA Junsu’s concerts. He is no longer the exclusive property of young girls.

Rice wreaths made an appearance at Kim Junsu (XIA)’s concert.
Fans from Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, the US, SPain, Algeria and Romania sent 1.25 tons of Dreame rice wreaths to Kim Junsu’s ‘XIA 2ND ASIA TOUR CONCERT INCREDIBLE in SEOUL’ concerts on the 3rd and 4th of August. This rice will be donated to those in need and will be distributed to areas of Kim Junsu’s choice.
Starting at JYJ’s showcase and concert in 2010, Kim Junsu’s fans have been donated Dreame rice wreaths at every concert and fanmeet, and donated 1.3 tons and 790 kgs to the musicals’ Tears of Heaven’ (February 2011) and ‘Mozart!’ (May 2011) respectively.
Kim Junsu’s role in Elisabeth last February was met with 2.68 tons of rice wreaths and 270 briquettes as well. 2.11 tons were donated to Kim Junsu’s May concert last year, 700 kgs of rice and 100 mango trees to his Jeju fanmeet last September, 200kgs to his appearance at the Korea Musical Awards last October, and 910 kgs of rice, 6,000 eggs and 2,000 briquettes were donated to his December concert last year.
Kim Junsu has been donating these sacks of rice, briquettes and eggs to various organizations such as the Seoul Dongmun Center for the Disabled, the Southern Hope Care Center, the Korean Silverlight Hope Church, Goyang-si’s Better Life Sports Association, the Briquettes of Love Movement and the National Food Bank.

JYJ’s XIA Junsu recently opened up about the Fair Trade Commission (FTC)’s verdict on SM Entertainment (SM)’s interference.
On the 4th of August, XIA Junsu held the Seoul leg of his Asia tour at COEX and said, “The FTC has made a corrective order and we’ve won our lawsuit.”
XIA Junsu said, “The articles may make it seem like it’s a repeat of wins and losses, but if you look at it properly, you’ll see that we’ve won all our lawsuits till now. They called it a settlement but that’s because they were disappointed at the outcome.”
He continued to show his gratitude to his fans as he said, “Now, there are no issues surrounding our broadcasted appearances. When we do get to appear on TV again, I’ll be sure to talk about you all. I’ll always try to repay you with great music and performances.”
On the 24th of July, the FTC placed a prohibitive order against SM for interfering with JYJ’s activities as singers and said, “Considering the leverage that SM Entertainment has as one of the three biggest entertainment agencies in Korea, as well as the specific nature of the KFPCAI as an organization in the entertainment industry, the official notice that was released placed a considerable amount of pressure on the recipients.”
To the KFPCAI, the FTC laid down a corrective order that stated, “The KFPCAI must notify the 12 business associations in the organization, as well as the 26 licensees who received the official notice, of the corrective measures that have taken place.”
