[TRANS] 111201 Coming To Shanghai Next Week To Meet With Their Fans, TVXQ Reminds “Cassiopeia” To Stay Sensible
Posted on December 1, 2011 by TheRarasaurus
All TVXQ fans have a collective, beautiful name – “Cassiopeia”, who will stay by their idols through thick and thin. On 9 December, TVXQ will be holding their “Asia Tour Fanmeeting in Shanghai”, and although they are carrying out activities as 2 members, their appeal cannot be underestimated.
Prior to the performance. TVXQ members Jung Yunho and Shim Changmin gave suggestions to “Cassiopeia,” via the organizers, asking them to ensure their own safety, and not to make any rash actions. TVXQ said that they can understand the feelings of the fans who have been waiting for such a long time, but safety is the most important issue, emphasizing that everyone should avoid causing unnecessary injuries for the sake of chasing after their idols.
The reporter also understands that, due to safety considerations, the organizers will be adding additional metal railings in the front, center and back areas of the arena, reinforcing the barriers, and have also hired 50 bodyguards for TVXQ to prevent any potential mishaps.

Group JYJ’s special edition album has sold out at 70,000 copies.
On 30 November, JYJ’s management company C-JeS revealed that “JYJ’s first Korean album released in September, recorded 250,000 copies in sales despite the broadcast restrictions, a proof of their burning popularity. To express their gratitude towards the fans, JYJ released a special edition album which included a MV DVD and remix versions, and this (special edition album) is currently sold out at 70,000 copies.”
This Special Edition album includes remix versions of the two songs that have been greatly loved by fans across the world during their worldwide concerts, “Get Out” and “In Heaven.” The trendy electronic mix for Get Out was co-produced by DJ Fractal, who had previously worked with Seo Taiji.
As for the ballad “In Heaven” which leaves a deep impression of people with its 3-member harmony, it uses an acoustic guitar sound as its focal point, blending the unique softness of pop ballads together with powerful rock elements.
JYJ said, “As these are songs that we wrote ourselves, the remix versions are even more special. This year, be it those who hope to have a sensitive, delicate year-end, or those who are at a party with their friends, we hope that everyone can enjoy the remixed songs comfortably, and with our new music, spend a warm winter together with your loved ones. “
C-JeS said, “The “In Heaven” Special Edition which was released last week was sold out from its release, and requests from fans who have not been able to purchase the album have been pouring in. As this is a special edition album and not an actual album, having a situation of such a high level of demand is extraordinary in the music industry. To thank the fans for their never-ending support, we will continue to use various opportunities to give back to the fans for their love.”
JYJ’s remixed tracks will be released on Melon, Dosirak, Bugs, Cyworld and other key music distribution sites on 1 December.

I guess it’s opinion morning, but this is one area in which I have a sensitive spot. Three animals are not in my menu plan–dogs, horses, and cats. I realize that this is a cultural mindset, Americans generally do not eat these animals on a regular basis. I also realize that horses are large muscle animals, so there is a lot of meat per pound per animal, and, in the past under duress, horses have been eaten in America. According to this article, the meat is targeted for overseas consumption–France, Japan, Europe, and other Asian countries. I guess in theory I can’t argue–it is quality protein. However, when I think about the horses who personally give me joy, I have a hard time imagining them on someone’s dinner table. Momma Cha
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Horses could soon be butchered in the U.S. for human consumption after Congress quietly lifted a 5-year-old ban on funding horse meat inspections, and activists say slaughterhouses could be up and running in as little as a month.
Slaughter opponents pushed a measure cutting off funding for horse meat inspections through Congress in 2006 after other efforts to pass outright bans on horse slaughter failed in previous years. Congress lifted the ban in a spending bill President Barack Obama signed into law Nov. 18 to keep the government afloat until mid-December.
It did not, however, allocate any new money to pay for horse meat inspections, which opponents claim could cost taxpayers $3 million to $5 million a year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture would have to find the money in its existing budget, which is expected to see more cuts this year as Congress and the White House aim to trim federal spending.
The USDA issued a statement Tuesday saying there are no slaughterhouses in the U.S. that butcher horses for human consumption now, but if one were to open, it would conduct inspections to make sure federal laws were being followed. USDA spokesman Neil Gaffney declined to answer questions beyond what was in the statement.
The last U.S. slaughterhouse that butchered horses closed in 2007 in Illinois, and animal welfare activists warned of massive public outcry in any town where a slaughterhouse may open.
“If plants open up in Oklahoma or Nebraska, you’ll see controversy, litigation, legislative action and basically a very inhospitable environment to operate,” predicted Wayne Pacelle, president and chief executive of The Humane Society of the United States. “Local opposition will emerge and you’ll have tremendous controversy over slaughtering Trigger and Mr. Ed.”
But pro-slaughter activists say the ban had unintended consequences, including an increase in neglect and the abandonment of horses, and that they are scrambling to get a plant going — possibly in Wyoming, North Dakota, Nebraska or Missouri. They estimate a slaughterhouse could open in 30 to 90 days with state approval and eventually as many as 200,000 horses a year could be slaughtered for human consumption. Most of the meat would be shipped to countries in Europe and Asia, including France and Japan.
Dave Duquette, president of the nonprofit, pro-slaughter group United Horsemen, said no state or site has been picked yet but he’s lined up plenty of investors who have expressed interest in financing a processing plant. While the last three slaughterhouses in the U.S. were owned by foreign companies, he said a new plant would be American-owned.
“I have personally probably five to 10 investors that I could call right now if I had a plant ready to go,” said Duquette, who lives in Hermiston, Ore. He added, “If one plant came open in two weeks, I’d have enough money to fund it. I’ve got people who will put up $100,000.”
Sue Wallis, a Wyoming state lawmaker who’s the group’s vice president, said ranchers used to be able to sell horses that were too old or unfit for work to slaughterhouses but now they have to ship them to butchers in Canada and Mexico, where they fetch less than half the price.
The federal ban devastated “an entire sector of animal agriculture for purely sentimental and romantic notions,” she said.
Although there are reports of Americans dining on horse meat a recently as the 1940s, the practice is virtually non-existent in this country, where the animals are treated as beloved pets and iconic symbols of the West.
Lawmakers in California and Illinois have banned the slaughter of horses for human consumption, and more than a dozen states tightly regulate the sale of horse meat.
Federal lawmakers’ lifting of the ban on funding for horse meat inspections came about in part because of the recession, which struck just as slaughtering stopped. A federal report issued in June found that local animal welfare organizations reported a spike in investigations for horse neglect and abandonment since 2007. In Colorado, for example, data showed that investigations for horse neglect and abuse increased more than 60 percent — from 975 in 2005 to almost 1,600 in 2009.
The report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office also determined that about 138,000 horses were transported to Canada and Mexico for slaughter in 2010, nearly the same number that were killed in the U.S. before the ban took effect in 2007. The U.S. has an estimated 9 million horses.
Cheri White Owl, founder of the nonprofit Horse Feathers Equine Rescue in Guthrie, Okla., said she’s seen more horse neglect during the recession. Her group is caring for 33 horses now and can’t accept more.
“A lot of the situation is due to the economy,” she said, “People deciding to pay their mortgage or keep their horse.”
But White Owl worries that if slaughterhouses open, owners will dump their unwanted animals there instead of looking for alternatives, such as animal sanctuaries.
Animal rights groups also argue that slaughtering is a messy, cruel process, and some say it would be kinder for owners to have their horses put to sleep by a veterinarian.
“Euthanasia has always been an option,” Pacelle said. But “if you acquire a horse, you should be a responsible owner and provide lifetime care.”
The fight over horse slaughtering has pitted lawmakers of the same party against each other.
Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., said the poor economy has resulted in “sad cases” of horse abandonment and neglect and lifting the ban will give Americans a shot at regaining lost jobs and making sure sick horses aren’t abandoned or mistreated.
But U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., is lobbying colleagues to permanently ban horse slaughter because he believes the process is inhumane.
“I am committed to doing everything in my power to prevent the resumption of horse slaughter and will force Congress to debate this important policy in an open, democratic manner at every opportunity,” he said in a statement.
I thought that this was rather interesting. I’m sure the medical profession will be worried about losing revenues. 😉 I noticed that the byline says, ” If the work of a pair of scientists”…These kinds of innovative ideas can get squashed by those benefiting the most from the present system, even though it sounds like a great help to us as patients.
Feeling Under The Weather? Spit On Your Smartphone Then!
By Trevor Mogg | Digital Trends
If the work of a pair of scientists in South Korea is developed further, a future where people are commonly seen spitting onto their smartphones may not be too far off.
The two scientists, Hyun Gyu Park and Byoung Yeon Won, believe the smartphone of tomorrow could be used to diagnose an infection by placing a small amount of saliva onto its touchscreen. An app (what else?) would then be used to analyse the sample and identify the user’s ailment.
As explained by the New Scientist, it works through the touchscreen’s ability to detect minuscule differences between various types of saliva, depending on the virus present.
“Since these touchscreens can detect very small capacitance changes we thought they could serve as highly sensitive detection platforms for disease biomarkers,” Park said.
Using an iPhone-sized touchscreen in an experiment, the pair showed that such technology was indeed capable of detecting bacteria and could even differentiate between varying concentrations of the bacteria contained within the tiny droplets placed on the screen.
The scientists, based at the Korea Advanced Institute for Science and Technology in Daejeon, admitted that there’s still some way to go with the research. Up to now Park and Won have failed to find a way of getting the technology to identify individual pathogens, though they believe it will be possible at some point.
It sounds like an excellent idea, though spreading infected saliva on your phone may not do much to contain a virus. Fortunately, Park is planning to develop a film which can be stuck onto the touchscreen. “Nobody wants direct application of bio-samples onto their phone,” he told the New Scientist.
If the technology does become a reality, it could also allow people in their homes with long-term illnesses to monitor their condition, saving an unnecessary trip to the hospital, or flagging up a serious problem early if one arises.

[TRANS] 111123 JYJ Donate 200 Million Won To World Vision, “We Want To Help Those In Need In Thailand
JYJ (Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu) donated 200 million Won to World Vision, the total amount the organization was hoping to collect for their second round of aid for those suffering in Thailand due to the recent floods.
Soon after the worst flood in Thailand’s history hit the nation, JYJ posted a video on their official homepage and expressed their sorrow as they stated, “We worry about the safety of our fans. Also, as there are many staff members who we’ve worked with in Thailand, we hope everyone is able to find stability in their lives as soon as possible.”
Now, JYJ have decided to donate 200 million Won to World Vision, the total amount the organization was hoping to collect for their second round of aid which will help with restoration, as well as provide daily necessities, sanitation, education and psychotherapy for children.
The donation will be used to provide necessities such as meals, emergency provisions, mosquito nets, blankets, water filters, drinking water and books.
JYJ stated, “We learned a lot from seeing just how much help our donation in Japan helped those who were mentally and physically strained from the earthquake and its aftermath. We heard that the situation in Thailand is severe and with the nation submerged in water, the aftermath and damage was quite extensive. As we receive so much love from Thailand, we decided that we had to do whatever we could to help. We hope the Korean community in Thailand and our Thai fans stay strong and find stability in their lives as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, JYJ are also working on a child sponsorship program with Song Ji Hyo and Park Yoohwan. On the 25th, with Christmas only a month away, C-JeS will be releasing a video in Korea, English and Japanese to promote the ‘Mango Tree Project’, which aims to plant 20,000 mango trees of hope in Africa.

[TRANS] 111129 Shoujo Jidai, KARA Enter Kouhaku For First Time! Tohoshinki’s Third Appearance
Posted on November 29, 2011 by TheRarasaurus
On 28 November, it was revealed that three popular Korean groups have been unofficially confirmed for the “62nd NHK Kouhaku Utagassen.” They are Shoujo Jidai and KARA, who made their major debut in Japan last year, and Tohoshinki who restarted their activities in January this year. The two girl groups are appearing for the first time (in Kouhaku Utagassen.) Each of these groups have topped the Oricon weekly rankings this year, and the “Korean Power” that has taken over the Japanese music industry has accomplished their entrance into the Kouhaku.
(Irrelevant Parts Omitted)
Also, Tohoshinki, who had two previous appearances, took the top spot with their single “Why? (Keep Your Head Down)” which was released in January and with their unchanging popularity, after two years, have been unofficially confirmed for their first appearance after restarting activities.
With the strong Korean influence, young hallyu star Jang Geun Suk(24), male groups Supernova, 2PM and SHINee were also shortlisted, but in the end three groups are expected to be confirmed.
