[TRANS] 120424 TVXQ, Preparing For Korean Activities With The Completion Of Their Japanese Tour

[TRANS] 120424 TVXQ, Preparing For Korean Activities With The Completion Of Their Japanese Tour

It has been revealed that TVXQ will be making a “return of the kings” when they make their comeback in the later half of this year.

TVXQ, whom we met just before the finale of the “Tohoshinki Live Tour 2012 ~TONE~” concert in the Kyocera Dome Osaka, said, “We are preparing for our comeback, which is targeted for the later part of this year.” TVXQ said, “It seems like we have kept the Korean fans waiting as our activities were centered in Japan for the first half of this year. We will work hard to get closer to the fans in Korea with brand new images. The exact promotional period has not been decided upon, but we want to produce good results at an appropriate time. We would also like to have concerts if possible.” TVXQ, who has completed 26 concerts over the course of 3 months, at a pace of about one concert every 4 days, will be taking a break before pushing forward with the preparations for their activities in Korea.

Yunho smiled while saying, “We would like to rest. The tour has continued throughout these 3 months, so the fatigue which has accumulated cannot be ignored. Although it is true that our stamina is a little weaker since it is the finale, we get burts of energy just with the word ‘finale’.” Changmin explained, “First, I would like to relieve the stress which has built up thus far by doing things such as having a drink with friends. Preparations are underway for an album to be released this year, along with other activities through which we will showcase the best sides of ourselves. In order to prepare well for the album, we will be taking a break after the concerts to recharge.”

120328 Korean Studies Grants To Support Scholarship, Research, Cultural Activities

Korean Studies Grants to Support Scholarship, Research, Cultural Activities

By Maryanne George
LSA Communications

U-M’s Nam Center for Korean Studies recently has received gifts and grants of nearly $2.9 million that will create new opportunities for scholarship, research and community engagement.

Undergraduate students Sun Hung Woo and Hye Seung Ryoo perform Sa-mool-nori during the Chuseok event, a Korean thanksgiving celebration.  Alumnus Woon-Hyung Lee, chairman of SeAH Group, Korea’s major steel pipe and tube manufacturer, will establish two $500,000 endowment funds: the Woon-Hyung Lee Korea Culture Fund and the Woon-Hyung Lee International Korean Studies Fund. The endowments will strengthen programs promoting cultural, educational and international experiences.

The Woon-Hyung Lee International Korean Studies Fund endowment also qualifies for a $250,000 contribution from President Mary Sue Coleman’s Donor Challenge Fund.

In addition, the SeAH-Haiam Art & Science Scholarship Foundation, for which Lee serves as chair, will provide $10,000 annually for the next three years to support cultural activities and teacher-training programs.

Nojin Kwak, director of the Nam Center and an associate professor of communication studies, says Lee’s gifts continue a tradition of philanthropy.

“Like his previous gifts, Chairman Lee’s endowment funds will be utilized to strengthen the center’s programming on Korean culture, including collaborative activities with the University of Michigan Museum of Art,” Kwak says.

The Academy of Korean Studies also has awarded an Overseas Leading University Program for Korean Studies (OLUKS) grant to the center. This five-year grant of approximately $900,000 will strengthen the center’s scholarly programs and fund academic conferences and symposia on modern and contemporary Korea.

“This grant will provide students with fellowships as well as funds for scholarly programs in diverse fields, including communications, literature, art, culture, religion and sports psychology,” Kwak says.

A gift of $750,000 from The Korea Foundation will create the Korea Foundation Korean Language Program Directorship, providing the Korean Language Program (KLP) with organizational stability and programmatic leadership.

“Along with the significant growth of the enrollment in Korean language classes, the KLP directorship endowment puts the program on a promising trajectory,” Kwak says. “The Nam center will use its resources to provide students with an opportunity to learn the Korean language and more about the history and culture of Korea.”

The Nam Center for Korean Studies was launched in 1995 as the Korean Studies Program. Elder Sang-Yong Nam, a 1966 U-M graduate, noticed a lack of Korean art and literature at U-M when he arrived on campus in 1964. He began advocating for Korean language courses at U-M in 1984 and over the years became the center’s largest benefactor. In 2010 the center was named in his honor. He died in March 2011.

Over the years the center has grown to one of the leading Korean studies programs in the country. The center’s growth has been nurtured by donors and alumni from Korea.

“Donors from Korea have provided some of the most generous international gifts to the university,” says Peggy Burns, assistant dean for advancement in LSA. “This tradition of philanthropy is a tribute to Korea’s connection to the University of Michigan, dedication to education and the desire to share the culture, arts and literature of their amazing country.”

[NEWS] ‘Palm News’ to reveal proof of SM Entertainment’s Obstruction of JYJ’s activities?

[NEWS] ‘Palm News’ To Reveal Proof of SM Entertainment’s Obstruction of JYJ’s Activities?

On December 22nd, journalist Lee Sang Ho revealed that he would be showing proof of SM Entertainment‘s obstruction of JYJ‘s activities for the very first time through Palm TV‘s ‘Lee Sang Ho’s Palm News‘.

Representatives of the show stated, “For the past 14 months, journalist Lee Sang Ho will be exclusively unveiling the investigations by the Fair Trade Commission. Officials of the FTC have been investigating SM Entertainment since March, and results show that there was indeed proof of the obstruction of JYJ’s activities, as well as a fine of several hundreds of thousands in penalty being processed.”

The show is expected to include an exclusive interview of Jung Hae Im, the first official figure to lead the investigations into SM’s 13 year contracts and minimize them to seven years. Jung is once again at the forefront of the recent issue with the FTC.

The chief of the FTC, Lee Tae Hwi, however, revealed through Star Today that this was not the case. He stated, “I do confirm that there are current investigations being done regarding the issue with SM and JYJ, but we have yet to lay down a fine worth the amount they claim. I also find it difficult to reveal the details of our investigations at this point, and promise to release an official statement once things begin to materialize.”

The episode will broadcast on December 22nd at 6 p.m. KST.

[Translation] 111116 JYJ for Happy Energy

[Trans] 111116 JYJ for Happy Energy

“Love will come back”
Jaejoong: JYJ’s happy energy, I would say, is the boomerang of love. The dramas that we act in, the albums that we create and release, these are all things that we have put all our efforts into. So with all these things, if the fans watch, listen, enjoy, and give us their love, we gain our strength from them. We then combine the strength that we gain and show our fans an even better side of us. I feel this is like a boomerang. If we give love, we will receive love in return. It’s like a boomerang.

“Straight to the age of 60″
Jaejoong: JYJ’s sharing will continue until the age of 60. The reason for this is because after the age of 60 we should also be receiving some of this “sharing” right? (laugh) For JYJ, the practice of sharing is very important to us. Even though we also have tough times due to various circumstances. And in those times, we receive strength from so many people that give us empowering words, that’s why we want to give support too. Because we are in the process of taking the strength we received and turning it into a good outcome, so we want to share our love with more people.

“We were like that too”
Jaejoong: There are books that are written with the structure of a fairytale, and there are books like “Talmud” that are like a fairytale. Books that give us so many lessons to learn from. The lessons that are always with us in our minds and that we feel we should practice, I think all of these lessons are embedded in fairytales. In regards to music, there are so many forms of good music aren’t there? Besides music, there are also the real sounds of nature aren’t there? What we consider noisy sounds, if we concentrated on them one by one like the sounds of an insect or the quiet voices of conversation, I think these little experiences would be good for kids.

“Thoughts about “giving”
Junsu: The people we want to help are kids. Ins’t education the most important thing for children? But with education, I think learning from daily from experiences is more important. Regardless, the kids from family with poor conditions have a greater probability of not being able to grow up under a good educational environment. For those that can also thrive later on, I want to give them nourishment as a present.

3 gifts
Yoochun: We have prepared a love collection for everyone. Jaejoong hyung chose a book he has read, here’s the signature. I brought a passport case I used before. Junsu’s is a jersey. The jersey Junsu wore when he played soccer. “Did you have a game yesterday?”
Junsu: “Only a practice”
Yoochun: “Practice right? It’s still wet.”
Junsu: “I couldn’t wash it”
Yoochun: Because this jersey really is very hard to find, everyone please pay a lot of attention to it.
Yoochun: Ya, did you really not wash it?
Junsu: I didn’t wash it!
Yoochun: Didn’t do it
Junsu: Didn’t do it

Sharing highkick is unstoppable
Yoochun:
If everyone can just devote a little more care, you can feel the feeling of satisfaction that you haven’t felt up until now.

Junsu: Our love and care can become the seed of hope for many people. If you want to feel happy regularly, then it would be good if we participate in this together.

Jaejoong: “Sharing” can be returned, I believe it is this way. If someone will be happy because of me, it will make me feel very satisfied. It would be wonderful if everyone can do a lot of sharing.

Jaejoong: it’s okay if I take one right? (takes mr bean thing)

Translation 111031 Cultural Director Jang Jin Sang is “Anticipating JYJ’s role in Spreading K-Pop Throughout Europe”

TRANS] 111031 Cultural Director Jang Jin Sang Is “Anticipating JYJ’s Role In Spreading K-pop Throughout Europe”   Posted on November 6, 2011

“The K-pop craze continues to burn brighter in Spain. We want to thank JYJ for spearheading the effort to spread K-pop here.

Cultural Director Jang Jin Sang, who began his job in Madrid, Spain in June, expressed his thoughts about the current condition of the K-pop craze that has swept over Spain.

Cultural Director Jang Jin Sang met with reporters at the POBLE ESPANYOL on the 29th and said, “When JYJ decided to hold a concert in Spain, they still hadn’t decided if they would hold the concert in Madrid or Barcelona. But they ended up choosing Barcelona because it was decided that if it was done here, people from Southern France would also be able to attend the concert as well as the citizens of Spain,” and “Though the influence of the K-pop craze and Hallyu Wave are still quite small in Europe, we believe the K-pop craze and interest in Korean culture will continue to grow in Spain.”

The reason why Director Jang made this statement is because Spain was the European country with the highest participation rate at the K-pop Cover Dance Competition that was held in Madrid, Spain on the 15th of September.

Director Jang said, “More than 50 Spanish teams participated in the competition. More and more people in Spain are beginning to like K-pop. Though B2ST came and performed a couple of songs as the judges for the competition, JYJ will be holding an official concert,” and “We’d like to see many more Korean singers come to Spain to perform like JYJ.”

He added, “We debated quite a lot on whether the culture center should sponsor the concert because it could be classified as a private concert,” and “But because this is the first time a Korean singer is holding a solo concert in Spain, we provided JYJ with 10,000 Euros (15 million Won) and that money was used to rent out the concert venue. The rest of the costs for setting up the stage and the additional facilities was paid for by JYJ’s agency C-JeS Entertainment.

Director Jang explained that the tickets for the concert cost 100 Euros for SVIP, 70 Euros for VIP, and 50 Euros for regular seats, which doesn’t differ much from the ticket prices Spanish singers charge for their performances.

He also stated, “It’s been 69 years since Spain and Korea established diplomatic relations but a Korean culture center has been created in Spain much earlier than expected,” and “We don’t have culture centers in Italy or Switzerland yet. Taking this into consideration, we can make the conclusion that the Spanish have a great interest in Korea.”

Director Jang had a positive outlook for K-pop’s future influence in Europe.

He stated, “Europe has high standards for art and music, so it won’t be easy for Korea to compete in the European markets. However, K-pop continues to evolve and grow, and I believe the rate at which K-pop fans grow will increase as well,” and “I heard that many people are coming to JYJ’s concert because they talked about it on Facebook and decided to come together. Therefore, we plan on opening an official page for the culture center and share information about K-pop, and provide at least one or two K-pop related events every year.”

Meanwhile, Director Jang stated that Korean dramas do not have much of an influence in Spain.

He explained, “I heard that till 2007, overseas broadcasting companies could air Korean dramas for free. But 2008 came with copyright issues and because it was decided that these shows couldn’t be aired for free, it hasn’t been easy to watch Korean dramas overseas, especially in Europe. It’s because Korea’s influence in Spain is still quite small and because it’s not easy to air those dramas due to the prices. Though there are people who would like to air dramas here with the rights already secured, it costs almost 10 million Won to dub one episode, so I’ve heard that discussions continue with broadcasting companies due to the expenses.”

[Trans] 111105 JYJ Kim Junsu : “I’m Surprised And Thankful That Many Fans In Berlin Know Us”

JYJ member Kim Junsu expressed his feelings about holding solo concerts in Europe.

On the afternoon of the 5th of November, a day before JYJ’s concert in Berlin, Germany, Kim Junsu spoke to YTN TV’s “Newswide” via a live telephone broadcast and said, “Because we’ve already performed once in Barcelona, the nervousness and excitement we felt then has carried through (to our Berlin concert).”

When asked if he “felt any hints of JYJ’s popularity in the country,” Kim Junsu replied, “Although I wasn’t able to go sightseeing a lot, I did manage to walk around a little. I was very surprised and thankful to see our posters up around the city and to have more people recognize me than I’d expected. This makes us want to work harder and present an even better side of ourselves to everyone.”

He also added, “The reaction we received in Spain was as passionate as the country itself. I believe it was more of ‘those fans drawing forth a greater strength from us than we thought we had ‘ than a product of us working really hard.

JYJ, who completed their solo concert in Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi on the 29th of October, will be holding their next concert in Berlin’s Tempodrom on the 6th of November.
