[TRANS] 140701 “External Influence Suspected” vs “It’s Not A Political Issue” … The IAG-JYJ Controversy

jyjiag

JYJ, who have been active as the honorary ambassadors of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, may not be able to appear in the opening and closing ceremonies of the event. Although they have actively promoted the games for the past year and a half, it seems as though their names have been scratched off the invitation list.

From this arose the ‘external influence controversy’ that JYJ (Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu)’s status as former members of TVXQ has blocked them from attending the opening and closing ceremonies. TVXQ went to court in 2009 because of a contract problem with SM Entertainment.

With news that SM Entertainment’s EXO will perform at the opening ceremony of the Incheon Asian Games in September, the controversy is gaining speed as being highly plausible.

Director Jang Jin, who is in charge of both the event and the ceremonies, spoke up about this during the press conference that was held on the 1st and said, “We have not made any announcements on JYJ’s participation in the opening and closing ceremonies because their appearance has not been confirmed yet. If Kim Junsu participates in the performance in the second act that involves musical stars, his act could overlap with JYJ’s, so we’re in the final stages of arbitration. It would be great to see them at the ceremony.” He continued to state, “JYJ have done so much for the events, acting as the honorary ambassadors for the past two years. There are a few details that need to be ironed out but it is definitely not a political issue.”

A representative of the IAG’s committee also revealed in a phone conversation with xportsnews that, “We’re currently signing contracts with the celebrities who will be appearing in the ceremony. JYJ’s appearance has not been confirmed yet. It will probably be confirmed in two or three weeks.”

jyjiag1

However, JYJ’s agency C-JeS Entertainment released an official statement on this day and pressured the committee by saying, “The IAG must follow through with the promise they made with us.”

C-JeS revealed parts of their contract as they stated, “In the process of discussing JYJ’s role as honorary ambassadors, the IAG’s committee promised, ‘In the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as press conferences with foreign press, JYJ will be given priority over others when Korean singers are needed.’ At the time, the head of the committee and those in charge of promotional activities promised that JYJ would be able to appear in the opening and closing ceremonies as the finale act.”

C-JeS ended with, “We hope that the Incheon Asian Games’ breach of contract is not a result of the illogical and unfair external influences that JYJ have faced in the past.”

JYJ’s Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu left TVXQ and SM Entertainment in 2009. When they began holding promotional activities as JYJ, their broadcasted activities were severely restricted. In July of 2013, the Fair Trade Commission ruled an issue correction order against SM Entertainment and the Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Art Industries for interfering with JYJ’s broadcasted activities. SM Entertainment is currently in charge of EXO and TVXQ.

Because of this, questions are being raised on whether external influences are in play for an event that is supposed to be an Asian celebration that brings 45 countries together.

While working as the honorary ambassadors of the Incheon Asian Games, JYJ have released the games’ official theme song ‘ONLY ONE’ and shot a music video. They also filmed a no-guarantee commercial and participated in promotional events, which included showcase events in Hanoi, Vietnam and Guangzhou, China last year.

[TRANS] 140610 Ohn Joowan Says, “Even I, As A Dance Instructor In SM, Had So Much To Learn From U-Know Yunho”

Actor Ohn Joowan (31), who is a former dance instructor of SM Entertainment recently opened up about his experience working with TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho (28, Jung Yunho).

Newsen met with the actor in a cafe in Nonhyun-dong, and he began reminiscing of his days as a dance instructor in SM.

Regarding the fact that he used to teach trainees, including TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho, while working in SM Entertainment, Ohn Joowan stated, “10 years ago, there were about 10 trainees in SM who I was in charge of teaching. I’m sure that there are others in that group other than U-Know Yunho who ended up becoming singers. Back then, they were just kids who were around thirteen or fourteen years old.”

As a graduate of Seoul Institute of the Arts, Ohn Joowan was once more passionate about dancing than becoming an actor. He said, “I’ve been dancing since I was in my second year of middle school. Dance was the only thing that didn’t make me feel stressed out. Just like that kid in ‘Billy Elliot’, I was happy when I was dancing.”

smdanceinstructor

He continued to say, “The dance style that was popular when I was in middle school was b-boy dancing. In the suburbs, contemporary dance was rare but there was a lot of information and resources on b-boy dancing. I also had a lot of friends who wanted to do it too, so I started out with b-boy dancing.”

Ohn Joowan added, “When I became a high school student, I came up to Seoul with the thoughts, ‘I really like dancing, so I should learn at least one more style’ and ‘I really want to try contemporary dancing, not just moves you can pick up on the street’. I came and took lessons on jazz and contemporary styles of dancing. That’s when I decided that I wanted to apply for contemporary dance as my major.”

When asked, “Were you the reason why U-Know Yunho is able to dance so well?” he replied by saying, “No, no. Yunho’s always been much better at me in certain dance styles. I would show up to teach him, and I would always learn poppin’ dance from him.”

Ohn Joowan also stated, “We shared a special connection through our love for dance, not just as a student and teacher. We didn’t really talk that much because we could communicate through our dance moves. When I see these young trainees, I can see just how hard they must have worked to get where they are.”

He also added, “When I was a student at the Seoul Institute of the Arts, U-Know Yunho came for his college entrance exam. This was before Yunho made his debut as a member of TVXQ, and he came up to me and said, ‘Hey, teacher’. That’s when we got to know each other again. We still contact each other quite often.”
