JYJ’s Kim Jae Joong made many people laugh by threatening Park Yoo Chun with a sword.
On June 15, Kim tweeted a picture with the comment, “Listen to me, Lee Gak. Where is Park Yoo Chun?”
In the picture, Kim is threatening Park with a sword. Park played the role of a prince named Lee Gak in SBS’s series Rooftop Prince, which went off air last month. Kim is not threatening real Park but standing signboard. This made many people laugh out loud.
People who saw the picture responded: “Kim is threatening Park? It’s so funny.” “Even though he has a sword in front of him, Park still standing confidently. Cute prince.” “Look at Kim’s serious face. He made me laugh a lot.”

[News] 120612 ‘Rooftop Prince’ Becomes The #1 Korean Drama in China Before Official Broadcast
Yoochun is becoming a topic of hot interest in Asia not just as the handsome JYJ member, but as a charming actor.
Recently concluded SBS drama ‘Rooftop Prince‘ has become wildly popular in countries overseas, especially in neighboring China.
Not long after the drama series was launched in Korea, a fan site for ‘Rooftop Prince’ was created on a major Chinese portal site Baidu, and has now nearly 60,000 registered members.
Furthermore, Yoochun’s personal fan site on Baidu has over 80,000 registered members, and special events were held in 4 major Chinese cities Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing for Yoochun’s past birthday further proving his immense popularity.
‘Rooftop Prince’ related videos on Chinese video hosting service Youku received a total of over 77 million hits, and were voted an average of 9.4 out of 10 by viewers. Furthermore, more than 110,000 comments were left by fans and the series is currently the most popular Korean drama in China. Considering the #2 and #3 most popular Korean dramas are over a year old, ‘Rooftop Prince’ is proving to have had a strong impact on its Chinese fans.
A representative remarked, “This is extremely surprising, as the drama has yet to be officially broadcast in China. The chemistry between the actors, actresses, and the staff members was really impressive, and main character Park Yoochun accurately delivered each of the emotions between the two characters he played, allowing for such an explosive response from fans.”
Meanwhile, ‘Rooftop Prince’ has currently started airing in Taiwan, and is also preparing for its broadcast in Japan.

As they say where I come from–“I do declare”…Our own Kim Jaejoong has taken on this role in Dr. Jin as Kim Kyung Tak, the illegitimate son of the leader of the aristocracy. He is a troubled young man, full of fear and desiring to fit in with his family that treats him as an outcast servant. Kim Kyung Tak makes compromises in his execution of military orders to please his father–the only family member who acknowledges that he is family. The thread of the story places his heart with Hong Young Rae, the daughter of a now impoverished noble family who sees her duty as a secret Christian to love everyone equally. She does not spare herself when an epidemic of cholera breaks out among the poor, but insists on helping Dr. Jin to treat the sick. When he contracts the disease himself she stays by his side to nurse him through–even defying the societal norms of her time that prevented a noblewoman from treating an unclothed man. Through her devoted efforts Dr. Jin recovers just before Kim Kyung Tak follows his Father’s orders to burn the village where Dr. Jin is treating his patients despite the fact that reports have come in that patients are recovering. Kim Kyung Tak teeters on the edge of decency and humanitarianism as he begins to see the injustices meted out upon the people. He has not yet become strong enough to fight this system which rewards the rich and takes from the poor. There is nothing new in this theme.
Hong Young Rae exists in a parallel universe which has captured Dr. Jin and placed him 150 years in the past during the Chosun Dynasty with only his skills as a neurosurgeon to treat the sick. Modern healing methods are possible only if he can find a way to adapt the meager supplies that he has taken from 2012 to the past. The question is will Dr. Jin’s love of 2012, Yo Min Ah, recover from emergency surgery to be there for him when he returns to his own time? Will Kim Kyung Tak rally and win the heart of his fiancee, Hong Young Rae? Only more episodes will tell the tale.
I look forward to viewing Episode 6. It seems such a long wait and an even longer wait to get to Episodes 7 and 8. If my stomach can hold out against all of the gory and bloody procedures–not to mention vomit galore– I will be that much closer to answering these questions.
Kim Jaejoong–I am so proud of you for choosing this quality role that has such potential to speak out and act out against the Order of the Day. I would be happy to see Kim Kyung Tak begin to strike against the feudal social system that denies him dignity as an illegitimate son. It will take overcoming his fear of rejection by his Father, and the motivation of wanting to win the love of Hong Young Rae.

[Trans] 120606 Lee Tae Sung: “The Prejudices I Had Towards Idols-Turned-Actors Were All Broken By Yoochun
While “Rooftop Prince” was being broadcast, Lee Tae Sung would often demonstrate his close friendship with Park Yoochun through Twitter. To Yoochun, who had suffered the loss of his father in the earlier stages of filming, Lee Tae Sung had sent a message full of genuine care, “Although you are doing very well now, just be a son that your father would be proud of. Don’t say such heartbreaking things. You just experienced it earlier than others would. Press on.” Naturally, it makes people wonder how Park Yoochun is like in his eyes, as a colleague.
“Before the filming, I had my doubts as to whether Park Yoochun, who had started off as an idol, would be able to take on the role of Lee Gak well. So I think the way I looked at Yoochun was influenced by these social perceptions. Although he has quite little experience with filming productions as an actor, if you were to look past that, he is really very hardworking. Despite the tight filming schedule where we did not even have time to sleep, he was still able to familiarise himself perfectly with the script. He had to deal with some tough situations while filming, and in the latter half his physical condition got worse and worse, but he was still able to take on what is equivalent to 3 different roles, right up till the end. He is a good actor.

Park Yoochun, who solidified his position as an actor through the SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama “Rooftop Prince”, has been attracting attention in the CF market for being the new “blue chip” of the advertising industry.
Recently, male models Lee Seung Gi and Kim Soo Hyun, and female models Kim Yuna and Jeon Ji Hyun have been receiving much attention, but Park Yoochun is a fast-rising, powerful darkhorse.
Park Yoochun is currently active mainly as the CF model for Dongsuh Food’s ice tea TiO, Ottogi’s Gismyun, Nintendo and Black Smith, among others. Including the headache medication advertisement filmed together with the other JYJ members, Park Yoochun can often be seen in television commercials.
The reason why Park Yoochun is appearing in this many advertisements is because of the outstanding advertising effectiveness (he brings).
For instance, with Gismyun, sales broke 20,000,000 (packets) in 80 days, and following the Korean wave, the “Park Yoochun Effect” was also evident overseas. Gismyun, which was exported to Japan, New Zealand, China, Russia, Southeast Asia and other regions, ranked 3rd in sales in the food section of Japan’s Gmarket, causing Ottogi’s representatives to say, “Aside from instant noodle lovers, Park Yoochun fans locally and overseas have also shown their interest (in the product).”
The advertisement which can be seen most often recently is TiO ice tea. TiO is a latecomer compared to brands such as Nestea and Lipton, but since Park Yoochun became the CF model, there as been a record increase in sales.
Thus, Park Yoochun’s value in the advertising industry has long been recognised, and by winning over women’s hearts with the drama “Rooftop Prince” this time, it has brought his “net worth” up another level. In particular, advertisers feel that Park Yoochun’s gentle and warm image, is one of the main factors which makes him a reliable spokesperson in the eyes of the consumers, and are all presently keen to “capture Park Yoochun”.
An advertising agency representative stated, “Park Yoochun has formed a polite and dandy image with the viewers through his drama productions in this period of time. In addition, his good looks and friendly disposition are appealing to the advertisers.” He also went into detail by saying, “He has an active fanbase, which directly affects the increase in sales of products, so the love which advertisers have for Park Yoochun is likely to continue.”
A representative of Park Yoochun’s management agency, C-Jes Entertainment stated, “Every time a production ends, the invitations for Park Yoochun to participate in a new CF are numerous. He devotes himself greatly to (taking on) each role in each production, and is hence able to show the viewers a new image each time.”
He then went on to say, “Also, because Park Yoochun seems very warm, it is much easier for the viewers to relate to him, and hence the (advertising) effectiveness is more outstanding than other spokespersons. In particular, ‘love calls’ for Park Yoochun have been coming from all industries, regardless of the type of product, or the age group or gender of the target audience.
Meanwhile, Park Yoochun is taking a break, while deliberating between movies, dramas, plays, and other fproductions. He will make a decision within this month, and is expected to appear before audiences before the end of this year.

“Timeslip Dr. Jin’s” Jaejoong is monopolising the interest of his senior co-actors at the filming site.
In MBC’s “Timeslip Dr. Jin”, Jaejoong plays the role of an official at the constable office, and the illegitimate son of the vice-premier Kim Byung Hee (played by Kim Eung Soo). Although he is skilled in martial arts and is talented, he receives verbal abuse from his father and the other nobles due to his low social status. In the third episode, there was a scene where he was kicked by his half-brother, Kim Dae Gyun (played by Kim Myung Soo).
However, the scene at the filming site is opposite from what is seen in the drama, as Jaejoong receives much love. Kim Eung Soo, who plays the role of his father addresses Jaejoong as “my son” or “youngest child”. On the other hand, Kim Myung Soo, who playes his brother, was seen rushing up and hugging Jaejoong after the kick scene ended saying, “Jaejoong is in pain. What should we do?”, showing much affection.
Program officials revealed, “Jaejoong always arrives the earliest at the filming site to prepare. It is impressive how he always gives his best, and the other actors all feel very affectionate towards Jaejoong. Unlike what is seen in the drama, at the filming site, they (affectionatey) call him “our Jaejoong”.”
Representatives from Jaejoong’s management agency also showed their anticipation, “It seems that cohesiveness has already formed among the cast. The valley scene which appeared in episode 3 was filmed at a location which required them to go down 250 to 300 steps. As no one was keen to come back again, the cast became close as they waited together while filming throughout the entire day. The atmosphere at the filming site is very good, (we can look forward to) them coming together to show the audience good acting as well this time.”

Park Yoochun (26) came to the Joongang Ilbo Building in Sunhwa-dong, Seoul for a photoshoot. The female staff, who are usually unmoved by most celebrities gathered together and started cheering.
That’s right, because Park Yoochun is an “idol”! He is a seasoned singer of 9 years since debut, and even if he appears in a red tracksuit and playing a comedic role in a drama, he is still an item of envy, a person who continues to draw the attention of the masses, a “natural-born idol.”
On 29 May, this reporter met the awe-inspiring Park Yoochun who transcended the modern and olden times in the SBS drama “Rooftop Prince” which ended on 24 May as the top rated drama for its Wednesday-Thursday timeslot.
# The Time-Travelling Crown Prince
Park Yoochun plays a double role in “Rooftop Prince,” as the Joseon crown prince Lee Gak and Second generation Chaebol Yong Tae Yong. Lee Gak, who comes to the future due to a time slip, has to reply in olden terms, even if all other actors speak to him in modern terms.
It was largely due to Park Yoochun’s natural acting, that allowed the audiences to accept the ludicrous story scenario without much burden. When asked if it was difficult to act in a time-slip drama, he said, “After reading the script, I could really feel writer Lee Hui Myung’s desire to see his wife again (This writer stopped writing for 6 years after the passing of his wife, and made his comeback with ‘Rooftop Prince’), so it was easy to get into character.”
He said, “As I was acting, I suddenly felt very heartbroken. To have to leave Park Ha (played by Han Jimin) whom I love so dearly and return to Joseon, I felt helpless. This is because a love that has transcended 300 years is deeper and purer than that of modern things.
To the free-spirited Park Yoochun, “Rooftop Prince” is also a very meaningful project. This is because during its shoot in March, his father had passed away. When asked when he would go to if he could travel through time, he said, “to the times that I spent with my father in America.”
Due to family troubles when he was in middle school he had migrated to America and worked with his father in a construction company. “It was a really difficult period, but thinking back now, I actually miss those times. I wanted to have better memories (of him)… but that period will probably stay in my heart forever.”
# From Singer Micky Yoochun To Actor Park Yoochun
Park Yoochun, who made his debut with TVXQ and broke away as a JYJ member, made his acting debut in 2010 with “Sungkyunkwan Scandal.” He worked on both period and modern dramas, and has earned the accolade of being “The idol-turned-actor with the best acting skills.” He said, “’Rooftop Prince’ was the first drama in which I threw away the burden of thinking ‘I have to do better’ while acting.”
“Even without forcing the emotions, even if I don’t feel like crying, I can still act in a natural manner. I have a scar on the left side of my face, and I had thought about covering it up with make-up, but now I want to be an actor that can show that scar naturally.”
He also said that if he has the chance, he will want to practice his enunciation while acting, or try acting in plays. This is because he has not had formal acting training aside from going to acting school for 3 months before shooting “Sungkyunkwan Scandal.” Park Yoochun, who is already a hallyu star also intends to continue singing.
“After watching (JYJ member) Junsu’s solo concert, I feel that I could never that well (Laughs). I want to write songs and lyrics, as well as produce my own album.”
