[TRANS] 130622 Kstyle Interview ā€“ JYJ Jaejoong, ā€œThings Heā€™s Gained From His Solo Activitiesā€¦ Gratitude To His Members And A Sense Of Curiosity Towards Musicā€

[TRANS] 130622 Kstyle Interview ā€“ JYJ Jaejoong, ā€œThings Heā€™s Gained From His Solo Activitiesā€¦ Gratitude To His Members And A Sense Of Curiosity Towards Musicā€

-Please tell us the highlights and what you hope fans will look forward to for your Asia Tour惻Grand Finale, which will be held over 3 days from 24 June.

Jaejoong: I released my first solo album since debut, and have received a lot of love while on my Asia tour. During the Tokyo Dome performance, it was decided that the last finale be held in Japan. Because itā€™s the first time I am having a solo concert in japan since debut, I am feeling the pressure, but the anticipation is also as big. I want to present a good performance, and have a good time with everyone.

-The set-list was released leading up to the fanmeeting this time. Were the Japanese songs in it chosen by Jaejoong yourself? Are there perhaps any special emotions behind your song choices?

Jaejoong: I personally chose them myself. But I did ask the people around me to give me their recommendations if there are any Japanese songs which they like. I think my criteria was quite clear, I wanted so sing songs that would bring back memories for many Japanese. I wanted to choose songs that everyone in the audience could sing along starting from the first verse. Despite me being a foreigner, and despite the fact that I sing songs in a foreign language, Iā€™ve always received a lot of support and love. So I thought I wanted to repay that love, by sharing the same memories with my fans. That is why I chose songs that have been loved by many people since the past.

– Ito Yunaā€™s ā€œPreciousā€, Onitsuka Chihiroā€™s ā€œMoonlightā€ and Ayakaā€™s ā€œCrescent Moonā€ are all difficult songs for females. How was it like to actually since these songs? Could you share some of your thoughts or difficulties, or some things fans should listen out for?
Jaejoong: Itā€™s difficult. Rather than being difficult because they are meant for female vocals, the songs themselves are not easy songs to sing. But after understanding the lyrics, and by thinking about the emotions the listener would experience when listening to this song, I thought that all I needed to do was to bring out those emotions in myself as well when I sang. The most important thing (to me) is, since it is a live performance, because it is a live stage, I want to bring even more happiness (to the audience).

-Do you usually listen to songs by Japanese artistes, or sing them at Karaokes?

Jaejoong: Yes, I often sing them. One of the songs I often sing is ā€œSaiaiā€, which Yoochun sang in Tokyo. (T/N: The Greatest Love by Fukuyama Masaharu)

-Will there be any special events prepared for the finale this time?

Jaejoong: The first would be me singing 7 Japanese songs, that is the largest event. It is also the part that is the most important to me. And also, for the fanmeeting, Iā€™ve had time so Iā€™ve been able to prepare completely new things. Itā€™s because I like talking to the Japanese fans and having little events. We are planning and enjoyable fanmeeting while taking this into consideration. Please look forward to it!

-You had a solo tour around Asia this time, was it not lonely without the members?

Jaejoong: Itā€™s lonely. While doing ments or games myself, when I am suddenly reminded that the members arenā€™t beside me, I somehow feel extremely lonely. And when Iā€™m in the hotel, I also inadvertently want to meet them. This is why after the concerts, the staff gather in my room and they make a big scene.

-Are there any differences doing live performances as part of your solo activities as compared to as JYJ? Could you share some of the things you actually felt or thoughts that run through your mind?

Jaejoong: There are differences, I think each has its own appeal. As JYJ, we can present our harmony and performance. i think that is the charm of being a group. On the other hand, when I am doing solo activities, I am able to showcase music that I like, and deeper emotions that I experience. I think that is the plus point. I think both have their own merits.

-ā€Mineā€™sā€ concept was that of a ā€œdark angelā€. How did that idea come about?

Jaejoong: ā€œMineā€ depicts someone who is being suppressed by some external factors, and how this someone tries to resist the things or people that are trying to dictate his life. The charm of the album is its strong sounds, which represent this resistance. When we had a meeting with the director regarding the production o the music video, the director said with a straight face that this was really a very powerful song. You are exuding fierceness towards the other party, but the real reason for that is to protect what is yours, to protect your field. We wanted to portray both sides of these feelings.

-Could you share specifically what are some of the things that you have gained through carrying out solo activities?

Jaejoong: The fields of music that I would like to pursue have broadened, and that makes me happy. I think one thing I have gained would be attempting new things. From that, I also felt a deeper sense of gratitude to my members for existing; While feeling lonely, and wanting to meet them. Also, I recently met my nephew, and for the first time since I became a singer, he said, ā€œUncle, the album is the best. All my friends around me say so too.ā€ Because of that I also think that perhaps I may have gained more male fans.

-Any words for all the fans who are looking forward to the Asia Tour惻Grand Finale?

Jaejoong: Yes. Everyone, I am already prepared, please also get ready to come and have fun at the performance. Come to the fanmeeting like youā€™re having a date with me, and I will present a performance for everyone that will soothe your hearts like a serenade. Please look forward to it!

[Question & Answer time with Jaejoong!]

Here are some questions from the editorial department, ā€œSome things that have been on our mindsā€. Hereā€™s our Q&A with the honest Jaejoong.

Q. The movie ā€œCode Name Jackalā€ only recently began screening in Japan, but if you were to appear in your next project, would you choose to star in a pure romantic movie, or an action-packed movie?

Jaejoong: I really enjoyed working on a movie. It was really an amazing experience. I mentioned this in an interview in Korea as well, I would like to try taking on the role of a character that leads a wild life. Something more realistic. Other than that, Iā€™d also like to try appearing in a production where there are heroes. Like hulk maybe (^^)

Q. Do you feel that you have rivals? If so, who?

Jaejoong: I donā€™t have rivals, I only have friends^^

Q. Given your tight schedule during the concerts, could you share how youā€™ve been managing your health?

Jaejoong: I run on the running machine (treadmill) every day without fail. Aside from that, I also like cycling outdoors.

Q. Jaejoong has beautiful skin! Whatā€™s the secret to maintaining good skin?

Jaejoong: Visit the dermatologist immediately once you have skin trouble. I also try to drink lots of water normally.

Q. The super-spicy dish that Jaejoong, who loves extremly spicy food, is hooked on recently is?

Jaejoong: Iā€™ve been cutting down on spicy food recently, because Iā€™ve been told that itā€™s not good for health.

Q. Jaejoongā€™s selfshots always become hot topic of discussion amongst fans when they are uploaded onto SNS sites. Do you have any tips for taking selfshots?

Jaejoong: Firstly, you need to use the best angle to take a selfshot. Other than that, I also think it is important to incorporate the story you want to tell through the photo well when uploading it to SNS sites. Photos with stories!

Q. What are some interesting places or good food that youā€™ve had while on promotions or tours or on private trips around Japan thus far?

Jaejoong: I had a lot of fun when I went on tour in Sapporo. I really like seafood, and the seafood there was really delicious. I like Winter, and I like the cold, so I really had fun when we had concerts in Sapporo!

Q. Are there any things you must definitely do or have fun doing whenever you are in Japan?

Jaejoong: Meet my friends in Japan, go and have ramen, drink beerā€¦ā€¦ Well, things like that basically. Itā€™s also been a long time since I was last at the Yokohama Arena, so that makes me feel nostalgic as well.

Q. Whatā€™s your favourite Japanese word?

Jaejoong: Itā€™s ā€œSorryā€. Itā€™s a polite word that can be used to express gratitude, and also used as an apology, or to mean ā€œExcuse meā€.

Q. Are there any particularly significant memories youā€™ve had with the fans?

Jaejoong: There are so many I could go on forever. There are so many Iā€™m not sure where to start.

Q. Is there anything you would like to ask the Japanese fans?

Jaejoong: Everyone, are you having fun? Are you happy? Have you been eating well? Have you found a lover? Are you healthy? Iā€™m the same as usual. And I am praying that everyone is doing well as usual too.

[TRANS] 130509 Kim Jaejoongā€™s January-Released Album Tops The Hanteo Real-time Album Chartsā€¦Ā Why?

Kim Jaejoongā€™s solo album as topped the Hanteo real-time charts.

According to the Hanteo Charts on the 9th of May, Kim Jaejoongā€™s ā€˜Iā€™, which was released on the 16th of January, took the number one spot on the real-time charts.

The feat is drawing attention for the fact that the album was able to top the real-time charts four months after its initial released in January.

In a phone conversation with TopStarNews, a representative of the Hanteo Charts stated, ā€œItā€™s an unusual thing to see. But there are times when we get overseas purchases when there are albums left over or when people buy in bulk as a group,ā€ and ā€œWeā€™ll need time to figure out the exact reason for this phenomenon.ā€

[TRANS] 130318 JYJā€™s Jaejoong Says, ā€œAsia Tour Fanmeet-Concertā€¦ Iā€™m Happy To Be Connecting With My Fansā€

[TRANS] 130318 JYJā€™s Jaejoong Says, ā€œAsia Tour Fanmeet-Concertā€¦ Iā€™m Happy To Be Connecting With My Fansā€

Iā€™m happy about my Asia tour concert because it helps me connect with my fans.ā€

Amidst his Asia tour fanmeet and concert, JYJā€™s Kim Jaejoong opened up about his feelings and determination.

On the 16th Kim Jaejoong met with Korean reporters for a press conference ahead of his ā€˜Your, My and Mineā€™ Asia tour fanmeet and concert at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Luwan.

During the press conference, Kim Jaejoong talked about being back in Shanghai as he stated, ā€œIt makes me feel great knowing that I held a fanmeet here last year and am holding a concert here this year,ā€ and ā€œI feel like Iā€™m coming to greet my Shanghai fans every year. Itā€™s a city that I have deep affection for.ā€

Kim Jaejoong added, ā€œI decided to divide the concert into three sections because I wanted to create a space for me to share my stories with my fans, connect with them and introduce the music from my album to them,ā€ and ā€œAfter spending some time with the fans, Iā€™ll be having a short yet impactful mini concert. I will do my best and work hard.ā€

Kim Jaejoong released his first solo mini album ā€˜Iā€™ in January and met with over 20,000 domestic and overseas fans at the Ilsan KINTEX on the 26th and 27th of January and in Bangkok, Thailand on the 17th of February.

ā–¶Here is the Q&A session from Kim Jaejoongā€™s press conference

-How do you feel about holding a concert in Shanghai, China?
ā€œIt makes me feel great knowing that I held a fanmeet here last year and am holding a concert here this year. I feel like Iā€™m coming to greet my Shanghai fans every year. Itā€™s a city that I have deep affection for. I come alone, and I come as a member of JYJ.ā€

-You held a press conference with the Chinese media before the one with the Korean media; what question made you feel happy?
ā€œSetting aside the questions themselves, the Chinese reporters looked at me with delight. Something about their gaze made me feel great (laughter). It felt great to see them showing their affection for me.ā€

-Weā€™re curious to know how much you participated in the directing of your current Asia tour concert.
ā€œI held two concerts in Korea on the 26th and 27th of Korea. From the planning stages of the concert, I made a request for the concert to be split into three sections. My upcoming concert here will also have a fanmeet and a concert. Though there was the fear that it would feel low-grade and be difficult to concentrate on, but I wanted to create a space for me to share my stories with my fans, connect with them and introduce the music from my album to them. The upcoming fanmeet and concert can be seen to be fulfilling the same goal. Though it was easy to communicate with my Korean fans, I was very worried about doing the same thing with the overseas fans. But because the Thailand concert turned out better than expected, I think the Shanghai concert will be great as well.ā€

-Do you have any special events prepared for the China concert?
ā€œIt wonā€™t be too different from my Thailand concert. The music that Iā€™ve prepared is the same, but there will be a few changes to the fanmeet part of the concert. Because the audience changes, I will probably do things differently depending on the reactions of the fans. Itā€™s not that I have something special specifically planned, but if I were to pinpoint something special about my Shanghai concert, it would be that Iā€™m in Shanghai and connecting with my fans.ā€

-As a group, JYJ has created a niche for themselves in the Japanese market. You must sometimes think about expanding into the Chinese market as well.
ā€œChina is a country that we canā€™t give up. All of us believe that China is a country we need to visit, no matter how little time we have.ā€

-The feeling of standing on stage with the other members and standing on stage alone must be very different.
ā€œI donā€™t think thereā€™s anything good about being alone, because you feel lonely. (laughter) When Junsu was on his world tour and had just returned to Korea after his South America tour, he looked at me and said, ā€˜I thought I was going to die from loneliness.ā€™ I thought being on a tour alone would be a new and great experience, but I realized that the loneliness you feel is inevitable.

For example, when we take on something new like acting in dramas or musicals, we take on that challenge thinking about what we can do to succeed and do well because all of us are working solo. But when it comes to musical activities and albums, you end up spending a lot of time alone when youā€™re used to being with your members. I couldnā€™t get used to that.ā€

-What is the biggest difference between a performance by JYJ and one by Kim Jaejoong?
ā€œWhen the three of us are performing together, we move around a lot to give fans an equal opportunity to see all of our faces from a close distance. When Iā€™m alone, I donā€™t move around as much. Whatā€™s difficult is that I have to keep singing by myself. Junsu complains that all the songs I write are in a high range, and I find myself agreeing with him and finding it difficult when I have to sing one of my own compositions by myself (laughter).ā€

-If you were to pinpoint a difference between JYJ fans and Kim Jaejoong fans, what would it be?
ā€œThereā€™s one thing thatā€™s for sure. Kim Jaejoong fans are stronger, no matter what part of the world they come from. My fans seem to function at a level above everyone else, saying things like ā€˜I love youā€™ instead of ā€˜I like youā€™, and ā€˜You drive me crazyā€™ instead of ā€˜I love youā€™. Itā€™s something Iā€™ve been feeling for a while. (laughter) For example, even if ten people are calling out Yoochun and Junsuā€™s names, they are drowned out by two of my fans calling out my name. Kim Jaejoong fans are all full of passion.ā€

-Was there a moment in your Asia tour that the fans moved you deeply?
ā€œWhen I see how much theyā€™ve changed from the past, Iā€™m moved deeply by the heart-warming scene. In my concert, thereā€™s a segment where they get to communicate with me. Before, fans would get jealous when I was playing games with other fans, but theyā€™ve changed. They play along and encourage everyone involved. It made me feel at ease and it felt like one big family.ā€

-During one of your events for the fans, you cooked rabokki (spicy rice cakes with ramen noodles).
ā€œI made rabokki during my Korean concert, but I failed during my Thailand concert. It tastes great if itā€™s a little sweet so I like to put sugar in it, but the staff had already seasoned it backstage because they were worried that the audience wouldnā€™t like it. I didnā€™t know that so I ruined the food in Thailand. But I want to succeed this time and feed the fans some good food.ā€

-Is rabokki the dish youā€™re most confident about?
ā€œIā€™m really good at cooking. Iā€™ll get married one day, and all she (my future wife) needs to do is bring herself to me. Because both my parents worked ever since I was young, I cooked a lot when I was home alone. Iā€™m good at any housekeeping chores and Iā€™m a great cook. When I was young, my dream was to become a chef. (laughter)ā€

-Do you ever feel that youā€™re in a competition with Junsu, who has also released a solo album and held a solo concert? What was the advice the other members gave you?
ā€œThe thought that I needed to beat Junsu never crossed my mind. The concert Iā€™m holding is so different from the one Junsu held. Now that Iā€™ve released a solo album and started my tour, Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll be able to feel the things Junsu felt during his world tour. Because my concert is divided into a mini concert and a fanmeet that helps me communicate and connect with fans, I feel more like Iā€™m traveling to be loved rather than feeling tired out by everything.ā€

-This year marks the tenth year since your debut. Iā€™m sure itā€™s very meaningful to be holding your first solo tour concert while looking back on the past ten years of your life.
ā€œIt doesnā€™t feel like itā€™s been that long since I made my debut. (laughter) When I look back, I can see that so much has happened and that Iā€™ve accomplished so much in the past ten years. When Iā€™m told, ā€˜Itā€™s already been 10 years since your debutā€™, I think ā€˜Wow. Itā€™s been that long alreadyā€™ and then I forget about it almost immediately. What scares JYJ the most is time. Weā€™re still in our early and mid-twenties. We have so much that we want to do and accomplish. We have to be able to satisfy and entertain the masses, even when time has passed and a new generation emerges. As the masses are aging with the passing time, thereā€™s nothing we can do but beat time. (laughter) I think our biggest goal is to work so hard that time becomes powerless in front of us and stay young, energetic and upbeat.ā€

-What do you want to do, accomplish or fulfill?
ā€œWhen weā€™re participating in overseas promotions, fans always ask us if we have any plans to be active in their home countries for a long period of time. We would like to stay in different countries and be active there for a long time. Because the restrictions on our Japanese activities were recently lifted, Iā€™d like for us to be more active there. Not only that, but Iā€™d like to take on new challenges in other fields in Korea and make a place for myself. Thereā€™s so much that I want to do that Iā€™m thinking that time is going to be an issue. (laughter)ā€

-What was your happiest or saddest moment in the past 10 years?
ā€œThere were so many moments when I was happy. (laughter) What comes to mind first is that I canā€™t live without my members. The moment I realized just how precious my members are to me was my happiest moment. For the past two years, weā€™ve been focusing on our individual activities so it was hard for us to meet unless we had official activities together as JYJ. Because we had to take on long-term projects that demanded a lot of attention, we couldnā€™t see each other for a while. When we did meet, there was a moment of awkwardness. We couldnā€™t meet often because we were pursuing our own individual goals, but we realized just how thirsty we were for each otherā€™s presence. Before, Yoochun didnā€™t pick up his phone often and Junsu never used to be the first to call, but nowadays, weā€™re too busy calling each other. Thatā€™s how happy I felt when we all realized just how precious we are to each other. The hardest times were when I would forget that happiness.ā€

Are you happy with what youā€™ve achieved with your first album?
ā€œIā€™m very happy about what Iā€™ve achieved. I could only put five songs into my album because it was a mini album and I wasnā€™t entirely happy because of the feeling that I wasnā€™t able to convey everything that I wanted to in those five songs. But Iā€™m happy because the album was well-balanced, I got to try out a new genre and I was able to inject a variety of vocal colors into those five songs.ā€

-If you decide to release another solo album, would you take another stab at the rock genre? Or would you try out a new genre?
ā€œI want to keep singing rock songs, even if I release a full-length album. There are such a wide variety of colors in rock music that I want to try the genre again. If I get the opportunity, Iā€™d like to work with indie bands. Itā€™s a personal thought of mine, but Iā€™d like to work with Hyde of the famous Japanese group Lā€™arc-En-Ciel if I ever got the chance.ā€

-Is there a senior in the music industry youā€™d like to emulate?
ā€œI would like to learn from Lee Seung Hwan and his concerts. I heard that he doesnā€™t decide upon a set duration for his concerts. The longest his concerts have ever gone is five hours, and I heard that the audience never felt bored in all that time. I really like that. As long as the audience is satisfied, I could use up all the energy in my body. Lee Seung Hwan is a person who performs for his fans, and I want to be an artiste like him.ā€

-What kind of senior do you want to be for your juniors?
ā€œI think the definition of being cool when youā€™re young is different from that when youā€™re older. Iā€™d like to keep hearing that Iā€™m cool and age gracefully. Iā€™d also like to avoid being a senior of the past whoā€™s referred to as ā€˜That senior used to be like this..ā€ or ā€œThat senior was okay in the past..ā€ For that, thereā€™s nothing I can do but work hard. (laughter)ā€

-What are your plans for your Shanghai concert?
ā€œI plan to spend some time with the fans, and then have a short yet impactful mini concert. I will do my best and work hard.ā€

After completely selling out all 140,000 copies of his solo album that was released in January, Kim Jaejoong has also sold all copies of his recent repackage album. The response is even hotter overseas. The album topped the iTunes rock charts in seven countries including Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and has also topped album sales charts in Taiwan and Japan. Kim Jaejoong became the first male solo singer to top the Korean V Charts of Yinyue Tai, Chinaā€™s biggest music video site, for four consecutive weeks.

Amidst this success, Kim Jaejoong kicked off his ā€˜Your, My and Mineā€™ Asia tour in Thailand on the 17th of February. Requests for tour stops have been flooding in from various countries across Asia ever since it was revealed that Kim Jaejoong would be holding a world tour. There are currently three cities confirmed for the tour, with the singer meeting with fans in Shanghai, China from the 16th till the 18th of this month and moving on to Nanjing and Hong Kong afterwards.

A representative of C-JeS Entertainment explained, ā€œThere are a lot of countries being added to the list of potential stops as the tour progresses,ā€ and ā€œWeā€™re getting a constant stream of calls through promoters. Weā€™re currently in discussions over 3~4 cities.ā€

[TRANS] 130227 JYJ Talk About What Happened 4 Years Ago For The First Time, ā€œWe Couldnā€™t DoĀ Anythingā€

JYJ (Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu) recently confessed how hard it was for them after leaving TVXQ.

The members talked about the things they had kept locked in their hearts for the past 1000 days in the magazine ā€˜The JYJ THE STORY OF 1000 DAYSā€™.

Regarding their decision to leave TVXQ in 2009, JYJ explained, ā€˜At the time, some people in the industry and the public made speculations about us and attacked us. But we couldnā€™t do anything but stay silent. The flood of criticism and the ridiculous rumors ripped us apart. But we didnā€™t respond to them. That was because we knew that reacting would be nothing but ā€˜Spitting on our own facesā€™ in this situation.ā€

Park Yoochun said, ā€œIā€™m sure that SM Entertainment, our agency at that time, were hurt too, but when I look back on what happened, I think we were hurt more by the whole thing. There were times when I thought, ā€˜Whatā€™s the use of saying things that will do nothing but hurt each otherā€™. Though there were a lot of rumors surrounding us, we kept it locked in our hearts and repeated to ourselves, ā€˜This too shall pass.ā€™ I felt like when time had passed, people and the world would come to see what the truth was.ā€

Kim Junsu said, ā€œChang Joo (CEO of C-JeS Entertainment) told us that things would get worse if we responded to every little thing, so we held back on everything. Though it was a very trying time for us, we could do nothing but hold back..ā€

Kim Jaejoong said, ā€œWe knew that this was a fight that we could possibly lose, but we hoped that people would understand our truth when time had passed. At the time, we had no one to speak for us, and we could do nothing but silently stand our ground. Because speaking up would lead to misunderstandings. We couldnā€™t express ourselves because even denying things would make us look like cowards.ā€

Meanwhile, Kim Jaejoong released the repackage album of his rock album on the 26th that contains two extra compositions, along with the original tracks of his first solo album.
