[TRANS] 130121 JYJ Look Back On The Last 1000 Days Through A Magazine, “We Didn’t Give Up. We’re Happy”

[TRANS] 130121 JYJ Look Back On The Last 1000 Days Through A Magazine, “We Didn’t Give Up. We’re Happy”

A magazine that details the last 1000 days of JYJ will be released in Korea and Japan at the same time.

On the 21st of January, C-JeS Entertainment stated, “The first edition of ‘The JYJ’, the interview magazine that commemorates the 1000th day since JYJ was created, will be released simultaneously in Korea and Japan. It contains records of their worldwide English album, their world tours, and their individual activities in musicals and dramas in chronological order.”

The magazine is set to be more meaningful as JYJ have concluded all legal battles that they had previously been engaged in as they came to an agreement with their former agency SM Entertainment last November and recently won their lawsuit against their Japanese agency AVEX.

A representative of C-JeS stated, “JYJ fought a long legal battle for three years against their unlawful contract. Not only have they won their freedom, but they have also provided their juniors with a better environment to pursue their activities in,” and “But because of unseen external forces, JYJ’s activities have been restricted and JYJ talked about their feelings about this in their interviews as they took the effort to find new challenges to take on instead of giving up or backing down.”

C-JeS’ CEO Baek Chang Joo stated, “For a long time, we have worked hard to walk down our own path, and we have changed obstacles into opportunities to widen the spectrums for each member, making them leaders of other K-POP stars as they have successfully completed two world tours and made their mark in the drama and musical industries,” and “We wanted to make a book that will be dedicated to the fans who have shown their love and support for the members, no matter how hard things got.”

The magazine ‘The JYJ’ was created through a total of 25 hours of interviews with the members, and will be a total of 139 pages with a special DVD. During their interviews, the members were said to have teared up as they talked about 2009, and all the people who gave them strength during those troubled times.

JYJ stated, “Though there have been hard times in the past 1000 days, we can say that we were truly happy. We worked harder than ever and though there were unexpected obstacles in our way, we were able to grow that much and learn. We wanted to share the story of the past 1000 days that were happy, from the moment we woke up till the moment we fell asleep.”

JYJ’s interview magazine ‘The JYJ – First edition, recording 1000 days’ will be released in Korea and Japan in early February and can be bought at the C-JeS store.

JYJ Junsu Solo Transformation, “I Learned How Top Production Teams Work”

JYJ member Junsu held an interview and expressed his thoughts on transformation.

JYJ member Junsu held an interview with @star1 and talked about his never ending transformations.

He has come out with his first english single, Uncommitted, and has worked with producer Automatic to produce this single.

He explains that producing in the U.S. and in Korea is very different. He commented, “In Korea, when we produce we just focus on recording, but here we all talk and discuss our thoughts before beginning to produce. Lets say we are recording for 4 hours. Two hours are spent talking about the album and the other 2 spent on recording. They also let me rest any time I wanted and made sure that I was ok. I have learned what it feels like to work in an environment with top staff members.”

He also explained that in Korea, there were exact scripts on how the music video would be played out. However, this time, he was told to just do as he pleased in order to create a more natural looking video. Junsu was surprised at first at the fact that he was supposed to just move any way he wanted to.

He added that the staff would be looking straight as him, which made him a bit embarrassed and at the same time worried because he wanted to create something that they would like.

120828 Typhoons Bolaven and Tembin

 Earth Observatory

On August 26, 2012, Typhoon Bolaven passed over Japan’s Ryukyu Islands, the eye of the storm making landfall on Okinawa. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this natural-color image when Bolaven’s eye was situated southeast of the island.

CNN reported that Bolaven was the strongest typhoon to strike Okinawa in nearly 50 years, with winds of 259 kilometers (161 miles) per hour. Along with high winds, Bolaven’s heavy rainfall and storm surges were expected to pose hazards for island residents. The island’s infrastructure, however, is built largely out of solid concrete and able to survive strong storms.

Unisys Weather reported that, on August 26, Bolaven was a Category 4 typhoon with winds of 115 knots (215 kilometers per hour). The storm had weakened by August 27, when the U.S. Navy’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) reported that the storm had maximum sustained winds of 70 knots (130 kilometers per hour). It nevertheless remained a strong storm, and the JTWC projected storm track showed Bolaven passing over the Yellow Sea and the Korean Peninsula over the next two days.

On August 27, 2012, MODIS acquired another image, showing both Bolaven and Tembin off the east coast of China.

Time Slip Dr. Jin: A Walk Through Korean History

One of the benefits that I have gained from watching “Time Slip Dr. Jin” is a lesson in the politics and history of the Chosun Dynasty. This has been an enlightening drama for me and my family simply because it has inspired us to read and learn so much more about the history of Korea than we knew before. Why is this important? It is important because ignorance about people and their ways is the reason why there is strife and war. To learn about a people’s history is a key to understanding them in the present. Korean people are strong nationalists. They cling to their heritage with an unsurpassed tenacity of spirit. Even living in foreign countries they distinctly remain Korean. This is a tribute to their sense of self as a nation and as a people undaunted by the many attempts to subjugate them.

As a  nation that did not desire ties with western nations or their ways, Korea had chosen to keep its borders closed. This stand changed as other cultures and ideologies intervened, and grass roots rebellions within Korea  produced an impetus to a new way of thinking that eventually changed the ruling class. The Andong Kim Clan controlled Korea for most of the 19th century along with the P’ungyang Cho Clan. This made the Kings and Queens primarily puppets and as the century neared it’s close there was a breakdown of the class system. Today, remnants of the class system still remain, but there is more equality and opportunity for those who exert themselves to rise above the societal layers.

Korea during the Chosun Dynasty was going through a transitional stage just before the dawning of the new century. In “Korea, Its History and Culture” published by the Korean Overseas Information Service, we read, …”There were also responses to economic growth, social change and the introduction of Western ideas. The new developments led scholars to break away from the abstractions and rigidity of Neo-Confucian doctrine and search for practical solutions and responses to the new social and technological situation. The result was an incredible surge of interest in all forms of practical scholarship”. [Sirhak]

This interest in new ways of thinking and doing led to drastic changes in Korean society and life, and other nations seized opportunity to control and use a courageous people for their own ends. Thankfully, that era has passed, but there is still unrest in a divided Korea. It will take courage and humility to reunite Korea, but sadly, it may also take many lives.

Episode 22 of this dramatic adaptation gives us a an 1860’s glimpse into the courage and desire of the Korean nation to remain solidified. This drama is based on historical fact woven into a thread of fantasy. I salute the writer(s) of Time Slip Dr. Jin for insight and courage to portray a time in Korea’s history that was not the most flattering, but which was a transition stage into the modern era. Societies tend to change through civil war and uprisings, and in this instance, also subjugation and manipulation. I have seen that in our own American history–so I understand a nation that has seen pain, sorrow, and politics shape her history and her people again and again.

Koreans are stalwart survivors, and Time Slip Dr. Jin has given us a glimpse into the hearts, minds, and spirits of a special people. The portrayal of all of the essential characters including Dr. Jin, Kyung Tak, Young Rae, Young Hwi, and many more was performed and acted impeccably and convincingly. I will enjoy this drama again and again.
