The 15 nominees for the popularity award are: Kim Soo Hyun with “The Moon That Embraces The Sun”, Kim Jae Won with “May Queen”, JYJ’s Jaejoong with “Dr. Jin”, JYJ’s Yoochun with “I Miss You”, Song Seung Hun with “Dr. Jin”, Ahn Jae Wook with “Light And Shadow”, Yeo Jin Goo with “The Moon That Embraces TheThe Sun”, Yoo Seung Ho with “I Miss You”, Lee Seon Gyun with “Golden Time”, Lee Seung Gi with “King 2 Hearts”, Lee Jang Woo with “I do, I do”, Lee Jun Gi with “Arang And The Magistrate”, ZE:A’s Siwan with “The Moon That Embraces The Sun”, Jung Il Woo with “The Moon That Embraces The Sun” and Jo Seung Woo with “The King’s Doctor”.

All the nominees are very popular actors. From Lee Seung Gi who has a wide fanbase that spans across age groups, to Kim Soo Hyun who has had a great year, to idol group JYJ’s members Jaejoong and Yoochun, all these actors are strong contenders for the popularity award.

MBC limits the number of votes to one vote per ID, and a maximum of 3 votes per IP address per day. Hence the fans, who love their idols, make use of the IDs of their family members as well. MBC will announce the results of the voting during the live broadcast of the awards ceremony, which will be held on 30 Dec.

The five member rookie group ‘Pure’ will be holding a charity concert in the hopes that the former members of TVXQ, who have now split into TVXQ and JYJ, will soon stand on one stage again.

Pure Entertainment (CEO Park Sang Hyun) revealed that the group will be holding 100 concerts at the pure k-pop live concert hall near Myeongdong in Seoul from the 12th of this month, with the hopes that the five members of TVXQ will reunite soon, before making their broadcasted debut.

The rookie group consists of white Soo Hyuk, pink Chan Hwee, black Ji Min, blue Jung Bin and yellow Young Hoo. Created by Pure Entertainment’s CEO Park Sang Hyun, who is a long-time fan of TVXQ, the group is meant to be an homage for domestic fans who miss TVXQ.

It was found that the five members of Pure were picked after beating stiff competition in an audition that centered around TVXQ’s good looks, singing, and dancing, as well the contestants’ affection for TVXQ. Pure showed off their talents in Japan first, and have already held two sold-out showcase events in Tokyo.

The concerts will be held three times a week and fans of TVXQ, children of families with no parents, and the disabled will be given free admittance. A portion of the profits will be donated to the ‘Fruits of Love’ foundation to help those in need.

Also, Pure created the project group ‘Pure Family’ with the soon-to-debut trio ‘The Soul’ and Han Sung Wook, who entered the finals of MBC’s ‘Birth of a Great Star’, and will release the charity album ‘Standing Together’ for those in need.

The music video of their title song has already garnered much attention as it reenacted the true story of a man who found the body of his wife-to-be by the initials on her engagement ring in the aftermath of the earthquake in Japan last year. It was later said that people in the Miyagi and Sendairegion who had experienced the earthquake took part in the music video and shared the pain and despair they felt at that moment.

‘Standing Together’ will be released on the Korean, English and Japanese version of iTunes at the same time, and the profits will be donated to the ‘Fruits of Love’ foundation.

Pure’s Leader White Soo Hyuk stated, “We’re happy to be greeting fans with such meaningful events as our relay concert and charity album,” and “We will do our best to not tarnish the achievements that our TVXQ seniors have made overseas at our Sendai, Japan and New Jersey, USA charity concerts. We sincerely hope for the day when we can see the five members of TVXQ on stage together to come soon.”

Kim Bada praised Kim Jaejoong for his outstanding ‘digesting ability’ for rock genre and also said, “As I did not know who is Kim Jaejoong, I was unsure. But the recording for the first song exceeded my expectation. Kim Jaejoong is abled with rock genre.” He then continued, “For the second song, I intentionally gave him slightly stronger heavy metal genre and he did not reject it. He understood the meaning behind the composition well and digested it perfectly.” Kim Bada said, “One of the two songs includes the collaboration with rock band Pla, involved as the instrumentation. It was done with great effort.”

The first solo album of Kim Jaejoong will be comprising of many varieties of rock music and his representative company C-JeS Entertainment expressed, “This album will be able to let others feel the charm of the differences between Kim Jaejoong and JYJ’s music.”

‘I Miss You’ of MBC was ranked at #2 while ‘Jeon Woo Chi’ of KBS2 got #1 again among Wed-Thu dramas.

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, ‘I Miss You’ on 20th recorded 9.7% of national audience rating. It’s 1.9% lower than its previous episode’s one, 11.6% on 13th.

‘I Miss You’ had been #1 among Wed-Thu dramas from its 10th episode, but it gave #1 position to ‘Jeon Woo Chi’ this time. ‘I Miss You’ showed decrease of audience rating due to no broadcasting on 19th because of the broadcasting of the Presidential Election, ‘Jeon Woo Chi’ that was the only drama that was broadcasted normally got #1 rank with higher audience rating.

In ‘I Miss You’ on 20th, there was a kiss scene of Su-Yeon(Yun Eun-Hye’s role) and Jeong-Woo(Park Yu-Cheon’s role) after recognizing their love for each other. However, Su-Yeon said to Jeong-Woo that she will marry to Harry(Yu Seung-Ho’s role), which announced a sad romance of two people.

Meanwhile, ‘Jeon Woo Chi’ of KBS2 got 11.9%, and ‘Dae Pung Su’ of SBS got 8.2% of audience rating.

C-jes entertainment, responsible for Kim Junsu’s management, announced on the 20th that the digital single will be released on the 24th.

Kim Junsu’s digital song ‘Thank U for’ produced by a Japanese composer depicts a sweet love song that fits the winter mood strongly. The song was composed and produced by Shikata who also composed JYJ’s Itsu datte Kimi Ni.

Though the doors to JYJ’s chances of appearing on variety and music programs have opened up, the door sill that blocks them is still sky-high. JYJ’s legal dispute with SM Entertainment has been settled, but no broadcasting companies have made any movement to invite JYJ on their programs.

JYJ fought a long legal battle with SM for three years and four months. The fact that they are ‘Kpop stars’ and ‘former members of TVXQ’ were enough to push them into the spotlight. As producers and writers of broadcasting companies are always searching for controversial topics and fresh faces, one would believe they would be rushing to get JYJ.

A representative of JYJ’s management agency C-JeS Entertainment stated, “We haven’t stopped knocking on the doors (of variety shows and music programs) but we haven’t gotten a single confirmation or a request from any production team,” and “We can’t fathom why.” Their chances look bleak for end-of-the-year music awards shows as well. The representative also stated, “We made enquiries to various music awards shows, with proof of high album sales, and there have been places that have already expressed that they have no intention of inviting JYJ yet again.”

With SM dominating all broadcasting companies, many in the industry wonder if JYJ will ever be able to be truly free to pursue independent activities. One representative stated, “Think of it this way, would JYJ really be able to appear on SBS’ ‘Strong Heart’, a TV show run by SM celebrities and Super Junior?”

Many representatives of the music industry are raising their voices against the ‘walking on eggshells’ approach broadcasting companies take because of their relationship with major entertainment agencies. Though there is no specific instance of coercion, production companies ‘meekly follow’ the wishes of the major entertainment agencies, who have Korea’s hottest celebrities working under their labels, to keep their relationship intact.

A representative of KBS’ variety sector stated, “Though I’m sure JYJ will be able to freely pursue independent activities once they actually start appearing on TV shows, many in the industry just hope it’s not them who has to start it off.” A representative of MBC’s drama sector stated, “Though JYJ have been finding success in sectors where major entertainment agencies have less of an influence, I know for a fact that there were many instances where even these activities were close to failing,” and “I don’t think we could say that JYJ are really ‘free’ now.”

A representative of C-JeS Entertainment showed his disappointment as he said, “There have been no legal issues, not since the 28th of November when the two sides came to an agreement, but since three years ago when the first injunction was accepted by the courts. We have known from the beginning that the issues that JYJ are facing against broadcasting companies was never a legal issue.”
