Editors Opinion: JYJ Honorary Ambassadorship of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games

jyjniifallcircus2013I have been waiting to hear news about the outcome of the decisions surrounding JYJ’s participation in the 2013 Incheon Hallyu Tourism Concert : Incheon Korean Music Wave 2013. The possibility that Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu would once again fall victim to a system that sees no moral dilemma in using their popularity as a means of promoting the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, yet continues to deny them the respect and courtesy deserving of their popular status, has come once more into public view. It is not a pretty picture. This is just another example of the pettiness of the entertainment industry in their bold disregard for the established institutions of their society which have been set in place to ensure fair treatment of all citizens. This basically boils down to violation of JYJ’s constitutional rights as citizens of South Korea.

How did I get here? It is obvious that the court system has ruled in favor of Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu through the countless lawsuits and injunctions resulting in decisions supporting JYJ handed down by the judiciary. The FTC and public officials of powerful rank and personal integrity have given their support, yet all are being ignored. This has dire implications. By ignoring the judiciary, the FTC, and public figures, a message is being put out there that states the belief that they are untouchable and hold all the power. Time will tell.

The industry has been told hands off of JYJ’s activities, thus implied,  Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu’s individual activities as well. In essence, they are being told to take their hands off of JYJ’s potentialities in the marketplace of entertainment. There is no way that anyone can truthfully deny JYJ’s abilities, earning potential, or promotional power. So, in an effort to exploit those assets; perhaps in hopes of receiving recompense, or in furthering their own cause, the bait and switch method has been employed. Engage these dynamic, charismatic, patriotic persons to attract the public’s attention; then withdraw any opportunities that will permanently place them in the historical equation or that will allow them access to former teammates..

Those who have been totally underestimated in this situation are the fans and supporters of Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu. After all, this has happened before in the form of the ‘Jeju Island’s 7 Natural Wonders of The World’ incident as referred to in the message C-Jes recently placed on their Official Homepage. The dedicated fans will always be committed to trying their best to help JYJ to weather this seemingly unending storm based on the fans knowledge of Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu’s integrity. The fans and supporters are individuals and groups who can see the injustices for what they are–  attempts to belittle and rob JYJ of their opportunities and self-esteem. Viewed in an objective manner, it is a complete travesty of justice. In whatever form the fan support appears, it is a direct message to Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu, and others who may some day face similar circumstances. Justice can prevail. It is JYJ’s commitment to maintain their integrity that will win the day.

Through all of this Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu have proven themselves to be strong, moral individuals, who, even as this insult among many has targeted them, have made a determination to carry through with the activities they have been offered as Honorary Ambassadors of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. They will do well. Diplomacy is their largest suit. After all, how do you think they have managed all these years? Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu are wonderful candidates for honorary ambassadorship.

[TRANS] 130829 [C-JeS] We Would Like To Address The Issue Surrounding ‘EMK Musical Company’s Official Statement’

Hello, this is C-JeS Entertainment.
EMK Musical Company recently posted their official statement regarding an interview in HEREN.

In an interview with HEREN, Robert Johanson, the director of the musical ‘Elisabeth’, mentioned Kim Junsu’s fans when talking about the concerns surrounding Kim Junsu and Ok Joo Hyun working together in last year’s Elisabeth performances, and we raised an issue with EMK on the problematic nature of this statement.

There were two main points that we requested from EMK.

As this statement was an untruthful report that may cause readers to misunderstand the situation, we requested that they release a statement rectifying the content that provided false information to many people. However, ’s recent apology on their mistranslation of the interview was not 100% in accordance with the solution we had requested, so we will strive to properly explain and rectify the problem with and reporters of concert culture.

Our other request was to send Robert Johanson an e-mail and rectify his misunderstanding of the situation. The e-mail we sent was not one that asked for an apology to Kim Junsu’s fans, instead, it urged him to see the truth of the situation and rectify his view of what fans are like since we have never received a formal objection from the management company in charge (*as we believe that if there was an issue, the management company couldn’t possibly not know about it) on the ‘discontent and dissatisfaction regarding the cast members’ last year that was mentioned in the interview.

What we would like to set straight with the management company is that we have never received any ‘requests’ or ‘complaints’ from fans regarding the choice in musical or cast members since Kim Junsu made his debut in 2010.

The people who came to watch <Mozart!> in 2010, and were who loved musicals and had a certain level of affection for these productions. We believe it is wrong to simply classify these , who gave all of their applause and cheers to the cast and crew for putting all their passion into their work, as .

Because of this, we hope that the official statement and apology that was released was created to highlight and rectify the false information that was reported to who love the musical ‘Elisabeth’, rather than being directed towards a certain or .

Additionally, the amazing ticket power and ability to introduce Korean musicals to the rest of the world were a phenomenon stemming from the sincerity and passion of Actor Kim Junsu, and he will continue to work hard to repay the sincere applause that he receives every performance with the best performance he can possibly give.

Although we had agreed to each release an official statement after organizing the response to our requests and the series of events that led to this situation, EMK Musical Company released their official statement today without sharing it with us in advance, and we would like to apologize for posting our own official statement separately.

[TRANS] 130821 Variety Shows – Acting – Musicals, What Do People Think Of Idol Stars Branching Out?

What should we think about idol groups branching out into other fields?

Other than their main job of singing, more and more idol members are starting to branch about into acting, variety shows and emceeing. On top of working on their singing and dancing skills as trainees, idols have been coached in languages, acting and eloquence, with special talents to back them up. In a way, it’s expected of these idols to branch out and try out other fields. However, there is a difference in how idols are viewed in each individual field.

actinginmusicals

▶Variety Shows : Ensuring viewership ‘Two thumbs up’

The number of idols appearing on variety shows has rapidly increased recently. In the past, idols would appear on any and every program when they were rookies, and then begin to choose only the best programs once they became popular, but it’s different these days. More and more idols are appearing in documentary-form variety shows and quiz shows, which usually have lower viewership ratings. This is because of the ranking system of music programs. Because the number of broadcasted appearances plays a big role in the ranking of music programs, idols have to get their faces out in the public as much as possible. One representative stated, “No matter how popular an idol is, it’s hard to get first place if they don’t appear on TV often. The situation’s a little better on SBS’ ‘Inkigayo’ and MBC’s ‘Show! Music Core’ because votes from fans has a greater influence on rankings, but because fan participation is low in KBS2′s ‘Music Bank’, an idol group can rank higher if they appear on TV more often. Therefore, idols should appear on any program they can, no matter how small it is.”

This desperation means that idol groups do their absolute best when they appear on variety shows. And they’re also great for promoting the shows. In the case of popular idol groups, their dark pasts or small happenings between the members become a hot topic. Even rookie groups become the center of attention if they talk about suitors, their love lives, plastic surgery and dieting. It’s a win-win situation for everyone and idols can appear on any kind of variety show out there, whether it be education, sports or talk shows. Good examples of this are the idol special of MBC’s ‘Infinite Challenge’, the diving project of SBS’ ‘Barefooted Friends’, MBC’s ‘Idol Track and Field Competition’ and KBS2′s ‘Dream Team Season 2′. Not only can they apply themselves to a diverse number of shows, but they can also ensure higher viewership ratings, thanks to the support of their fans, meaning that idols are welcomed with open arms in the variety sector.

actinginmusicals1

▶Acting : They know what they’re doing~!

Most idols branch out into the acting industry with countless idols are currently active as ‘acting-dols’. Though viewers are split on their opinions on such idols, production companies prefer to work with them. Not only do they ask for less money than top-class actors, but they also bring a rippling effect with them. With idols riding the Hallyu Wave and gaining popularity overseas, more and more of their productions are being exported overseas with them. Meaning that output greatly outweighs the initial input. Though they were at the center of controversies surrounding their lack of acting skills in the past, more and more idols these days make their debut with an acting career already planned out, acting as a positive for them as it means that their acting skills rival that of most actors. Even the movie industry, which used to be cautious about using idols in their work, have changed their tune. With more productions hiring idols for major and minor characters, such as ‘Noblesse’ (Girls’ Generation’s Yuri, Dalshabet’s Ah Young), ‘Lawyer’ (ZE:A’s Lim Shi Wan), and ‘Alumni’ (Big Bang’s TOP), the industry seems to be moving towards a pro-idol opinion. A representative stated, “Idols are better at expressions and acting than most people think. They’re more used to the camera and look more natural than rookies who haven’t proven their talents yet. They’re able to catch on quickly to the overall feel and atmosphere of their productions. The fact that there aren’t that many popular actors who can take on the roles of characters in their early twenties becomes a great opportunity for idols. Even if productions featuring idols don’t do well in Korea, they are usually exported to Japan or Chinese-speaking countries. More and more scripts are being sent to idols these days, and some production companies are even creating high teen dramas in order to bring in idol stars to their works.”

actinginmusicals2

▶Musicals : Idols aren’t that great

The musical industry is also one that many idols are flocking to. It is the best field for idols to go to as they can already sing and dance at the same time. However, the reception has been quite chilly. The general consensus is that production companies hesitate in hiring idols, except JYJ’s Kim Junsu.

Many representatives chose the idols’ insincere attitude as the most important factor. There are times when they do not attend rehearsals due to overseas activities, and many of them either don’t show up or show up late to rehearsals with the excuse of packed schedules. Because of this, the actors are unable to connect with each other and this clearly shows on stage. High salaries are also an issue. A representative stated, “Though Kim Junsu receives 15 million Won per show, he’s worth that amount. He has such a sincere attitude towards his work that everyone, from his fellow cast members to the staff, like him. On the other hand, most idols aren’t like him but still receive salaries of 8 to 9 million Won. The problem is that they don’t deliver as much as they should,” and “Because musicals are created in a poor environment, production costs are limited, and most of it ends up going to the idols. That means that musicals have to reduce costs in other areas, and the people who usually suffer because of this is the ensemble. Ensembles are also ranked in talent and experience, and this means that musicals aren’t able to hire good ensembles. Not only do idols not deliver when they’re on stage, but the ensembles aren’t that great either, so it’s no wonder that some musicals end up failing.” It’s impossible for idols to receive positive reviews when they don’t even have strong ticket power to salvage the situation. Another representative stated, “No idol singer, except for Kim Junsu, has enough ticket power to succeed. At first, many musicals hired them based on their popularity in the music industry. But because the age range of most idol fanbases are concentrated in the teens and early 20s, there is a limit in the number of people who can buy expensive musical tickets. 90% of musicals that performed in big venues, putting their faith in the fandoms of idols, have suffered losses. With ticket power failing as well, the number of musicals hiring idols has decreased.”

Posts of protest are flooding social networking systems regarding JYJ’s exclusion from the ’2014 Incheon Asian Games Commemoration Hallyu Concert’, despite the fact that they are the honorary ambassadors of the sporting event.

One Twitter user sent a tweet to Song Young Gil, the mayor of Incheon, (@Bulloger) and said, “Are you aware of the fact that JYJ, the honorary ambassadors of the Incheon Asian Games, weren’t even invited to the upcoming commemorative concert?” and “Even though they had never been invited to the concert, the committee submitted a false report that JYJ declined their invitation.”

According to the argument made by this Twitter user, JYJ’s names were excluded from the ’2014 Incheon Asian Games Commemoration Hallyu Concert’, that will be held on the 1st of September, despite being the honorary ambassadors of the sporting event, and the decision was made by the Incheon Development and Tourism Corporation, who are in charge of inviting celebrities to perform at the concert jyjincheonasianganes

The current guest list for the concert features 20 teams including 2AM, miss A, Girls Day, B2ST, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, SISTAR, SECRET, KARA and T-ara.

JYJ’s agency C-JeS Entertainment stated that they have filed a formal objection regarding the controversy and stated, “A misunderstanding arose when the Incheon Development and Tourism Corporation, who are in charge of inviting singers to perform at the concert, notified the committee that JYJ declined their invitation. We set the record straight that we have never received an actual invitation to perform at the concert. We have been told that the committee will verify the truth of the situation by tomorrow (8th).”

Hearing about his controversy, Mayor Song stated, “I, too, hope for JYJ’s appearance at the concert but I was notified by the Incheon Development and Tourism Corporation that the line-up issue is being dealt with by MBC. I will make sure to check on the situation with the representatives of the Incheon Development and Tourism Corporation and the committee of the Asian Games.”

[TRANS] 130806 “We Want To See Kim Junsu’s Performances” – The Seoul Arts Center’s Homepage Crashes

Fierce competition for ‘Elisabeth’ tickets, the Seoul Arts Center’s homepage crashes

junetod2013

A flood of fans are aching for tickets to see JYJ’s Kim Junsu (XIA) in the musical ‘Elisabeth’, leading to the homepage of the Seoul Arts Center, who are in charge of ticket reservations for the musical, to crash.

At 10a.m. on the 6th, Interpark and the Seoul Arts Center opened up the third round of ticket reservations for the musical ‘Elisabeth’.

Kim Junsu’s fans flooded in to grab tickets for Kim Junsu’s performances. Almost as soon as reservations opened up, the Seoul Arts Center’s homepage crashed. Though fans could access Interpark, Kim Junsu’s shows were sold out in an instant.

The reason behind the Seoul Arts Center homepage’s crash is probably Kim Junsu’s fans. Many of the posts written on various online communities were made by Kim Junsu and JYJ’s fans and said, “I want to get a ticket but I can’t access the website.”

During the first and second round of ticket reservations, most Kim Junsu-related online communities were flooded with posts about buying tickets for Kim Junsu’s ‘Elisabeth’ performances.

Meanwhile, Kim Junsu, who is charge of the role Death (Tod), attended the ‘Elisabeth’ press call on the 25th of July at the Seoul Arts Center and said, “‘Elisabeth’ is the production that won me the Best Musical Actor Award. I loved working with the greatest actors of the industry and I wanted to feel that excitement again. I’m happy to be working with everyone in this year’s cast. I learned so much from Robert Johansson last year, and I’d like to learn more from him this year.”

The musical ‘Elisabeth’ is a production that depicts the life of the beautiful Austrian empress Elisabeth. Her dramatic life story of love and death is highlighted by the fantasy character of Death.

Ok Joo Hyun, Kim Junsu, Park Eun Tae, Min Young Ki and Lee Jung Hwa will be joined by Kim So Hyun, Park Hyo Shin, Lee Ji Hoon, Kim Isak and Noh Ji Hoon, and the musical will be performed from the 26th of July till the 7th of September at the Seoul Arts Center’s Opera Hall.

[TRANS] 130728 Requests Flood In For Kim Junsu’s Appearance On ‘Inkigayo’ But The Staff Stay Silent

juneinkigayo

The viewers’ request page of SBS’ ‘Inkigayo’ has been flooded with fans asking for JYJ’s Junsu to appear on the show. This has been happening for all three major music programs, including KBS’ ‘Music Bank’ and MBC’s ‘Show! Music Core’.

One viewer stated, “Till when will you tread on glass around large entertainment agencies and concede to their every whim,” and “Viewers are bored with the same celebrities always appearing on the show, and people don’t watch the show anymore because they’re bored.”

They continued to add, “The FTC have made their verdict, and now is the time to give Junsu an chance,” and “We want to see Junsu, the frontrunner of K-pop, on a broadcasted stage in Korea.”

JYJ left TVXQ in 2009 and since then, have been unable to appear on broadcasted music programs due to external pressure. The FTC recently found SM Entertainment and the Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Arts Industries guilty of interfering with JYJ’s activities. With the FTC’s verdict made on the 24th, JYJ’s fans began expecting to see JYJ on stage in the near future.

However, the staff of the show have stayed silent, regardless of the viewers’ requests. Although it has become the hottest issue of the week in K-pop, not a single staff member of any broadcasted music program has expressed his or her opinion on the matter through official posts, SNS accounts or news articles.

In order to ‘strengthen communication with viewers’, all three major broadcasted music programs

have incorporated SNS points, and text message votes into their ranking systems, but they have stayed silent when it comes to requests made by the viewers themselves. Broadcasting companies use viewers when they need to, but do not reflect their requests or opinions at all.

Another viewer stated, “Legally, all restrictions against JYJ have disappeared,” and “We hope that the media remembers that their most important role is to promote fairness.” It is time for the staff of music programs to express their official stance to gain the trust of their viewers.

(10:59am KST) We thought that we wouldn’t be able to stand on stage again. But for the past four years, we have been able to stand on stage and sing. And it was all thanks to our fans’ sincere hearts and love for us. The link below will take you to C-JeS Entertainment and JYJ’s official statement on the Fair Trade Commission’s ruling on SM Entertainment. We hope that our fans all over the world take interest and read it. Link

T/N: Our translations for the statement can be found here]

1:37pm KST) Translations for the video are below.

(Yoochun) The name JYJ… I really like it. Thank you all so much. Thank you for caring for us so much that we are able to live a happier life. I think we still have so much to do if we want to repay you for all of your love, so we’re going to do our best and go at it with all we have.

(Junsu) Thank you… Thank you.

(Jaejoong) I apologize. We hadn’t planned to come up and talk, so we don’t have much prepared. And when you don’t have much prepared, your emotions start pouring out first, like Junsu right now; it’s natural. If we were to have a real heart to heart, we would probably end up needing four to five hours, just to talk it out. Even that wouldn’t be enough, right? Yoochun said this too, but we’re so happy right now. We’re human after all, and I think humans feel most suffocated when they can’t like what they like, can’t do what they want to do, or express what they want to express. I’m so happy to be standing in front of all the people who have made it possible to be free in what we do, if not 100%, at least more than before. We will take all the strength you’ve given us and work harder, and within what we have.. Like what Yoochun said, we’ll go at it and break free. Till then, we don’t need anything else, we’ll be grateful if you just believe in us and watch over us. Thank you so much. And thank you to those sitting on the second and third floors as well. Thank you.

Till now, this has been JYJ. Thank you!
